Heads up I'm a little biased with this establishment. 2005 was my last visit here and ever since then this has been the benchmark for Italian in my books. We came by for a late lunch. Ambiance is cozy, service is an awesome example of what hospitality should be like and the food is a great representation of the type of cuisine. I was there in the middle of the NYC heatwave, having lunch and I was shocked to see/hear a gentleman with a service dog being refused indoor seating. ADA laws state that seating cannot be refused in a restaurant if the animal is licensed. Who would make ANYONE sit outside during a heatwave. I came with a friend for an early dinner on a weekday and was seated immediately. It was a beautiful restaurant, and our seating felt nice and private even when other diners came in. We each got a pasta--I thought the pasta texture was decent but the flavor of the chicken and tomato/bell pepper sauce was not my favorite. My friend thought the clam pasta was decent. I've been wanting to go to this restaurant for over 10 years. I passed by it 10 years ago and was mesmerized by the interior decor and the candle lit table seemed so romantic. We finally made it happen for a friend's birthday and it was a nice place. Obviously we sat inside and enjoyed the intimate setting. The food was tasty and the portions were perfect. We ordered the seafood mussels, the risotto, and I got the papperdelle with chicken. We were served bread with this very yummy red sauce which was delicious. We loved all the dishes, the flavors were mild but everything tasted fresh. In the end they gave us complimentary biscotti which were delicious as well. The service was great and their servers were attentive. It was empty when we went in but quickly filled up. read more

My friend and I tried to dine here, but they wouldn't let us in. They said no dogs allowed, but my friend's dog is a service dog. Under the ADA, it's illegal to not let a service dog in. I let the person at the door know this fact, but he said the chef is allergic. We said that we wouldn't bring the dog into the kitchen, but he said the chef was "right there" but I'm not sure what he meant. I told my friend to call 411 to report them, but she was tired and hungry so she said to leave it be and we went to a different restaurant. I would never come back here due to their illegal practices. read more

Walked by this place and stopped. What a great choice. Can't believe that a small neighborhood place could be so good. ENTRANCE- an intriguing red awning is the entrance way to a small local restaurant on Lexington Avenue. It was an early evening Wednesday but the staff greeted us rather quickly. We had our choice of any table as it was only 5:30 in manhattan. SERVICE- extremely nice and attentive to every whim. The owner and son were actually waiting on us and super friendly. We even had a third party meet us (after a call to say how good the place was) and they accommodated a last minute order timed to perfection when they arrived. BREAD & DIP - fabulous the bread was classic Arthur Avenue Madonna quality. They had a dip that was to die for. Super flavorful. APPETIZERS - had the artichoke with crab in a tremendously great broth. A must try. ENTREES- wife and I went with fish specials halibut and Bronzino that were perfectly prepared. By that I mean crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. A must try when available. Which could be every day lol. What do I know. VINO - very good Italian selection and not exorbitantly priced for Manhattan. DESERT - so full only cappuccino. Let me know what u think if you try a dessert here. Kind of worried about eating here since it looked like your generic italian restaurant but went for it since I was in a bind. They have a cool outdoor setup with a few tables with dividers. For lunch I went with the paparedelle with chicken. The pasta was definitely homemade and was made al dente. I usually don't see this pasta dish made with chicken but it worked. Usually it is made with a wild boar ragu. The dish overall worked and really will fill you up for lunch. My colleague got the cheese ravioli and also enjoyed it. They also were homemade and you could taste it. The only issue is it is a little expensive for lunch. They didn't have any lunch menu which seemed kind of weird. $20-$30 for a pasta dish for lunch seemed excessive. They also had other entrees for $30+. With that being said, the food was decent but I don't think I would come back for lunch. read more

We had a pleasant lunch at Barbaresco today. It was a mild Dec afternnon, we sat outside, in their cosy outdoor dining area. Waiter was courteous and efficient. Food was very good. The salad was outstanding actually: pear and truffled cheese, full of flavors. My main was pure spaghetti marinara. All dente and tasty. My husband ordered steak, a big portion, and he loved it. 18 tables of joy on Lexington! Gazpacho was fresh and fulfilling. Could eat the veal scaloppini any day of the week - a hearty serving, brimming with white wine & citrus flavours. We just had almost unpleasant experience at Barbaresco. It began with our waiter being extraordinarily brusque & rude Shortly afterwards a second staff poured water such that it overflowed ( some dripping on to my pants. ) There was a perfunctory "sorry" tho' without even any effort to wipe the sodden table cloth So when we paid the check , instead of our usual 20-25% we left only 10-12%--admittedly skimpy but more than service was worth Seeing the amount the waiter began yelling at us--a first in our experience The food was good -- but no food could offset the unpleasantness of the unbelievably rude service! read more

Had a lovely Saturday brunch. With a cool glass of proseco, we sat at one of the front tables watching the neighborhood flow by. The olive oil/tomato bread spread is excellent. Like many, though not all, NYC restaurants they have (limited) outdoor seating due to Cuomo's diktat that prevents indoor dining. What is also limited is quality both in food and service. The waiter (a Croat-Italian) practically bellows through his mask into your ear and pauses for a few seconds to see if you have been intimidated into selecting some of their pedestrian NY Italian (make no mistake there is no "vero" Italian about any of their menu items) fare and if you have not saunters off and returns at his leisure. About the only thing of note was that Spike Lee, although I am no fan of his, happened to be dining at the next table. read more

The food here was great and the service was amazing as well. My friend and I came here on a Saturday and ordered the Clam Spaghetti Pasta and Chicken Alfredo. Both dishes were well portioned, well made, and very flavorful. One thing that stood out was the meat portions. When I usually order seafood pasta at a nice Italian Restaurant, I expect a few clams or shrimps in the pasta. To my surprise, I found at least 15 intact clams within their shells, in my pasta. I love that the Clam Pasta actually had CLAMS and PASTA in it LOL! So I thought that we got a great deal for bougee food in a great part of the Upper East. Our bill was just under $50 for the 2 entrees and bread, so really no complaints there. I would highly recommend the Clam and would definitely come again! read more

Great service! Charlie was our server and he did a wonderful job! Not stuffy, lot of conversation going on in the place. So I'm on an overnight work trip here in NYC. Got to my hotel a little before 8:00pm and I'm STARVING. I happened across this little place and I'm so happy I did. The ambiance is lovely and warm, the music is great (70s slow jams R&B, 2000s pop rock, classical, the works!), the service is quick, polite, and friendly, the food is DELICIOUS, and the whole experience was really nice. Exactly what I needed in that moment. I got the caprese as an appetizer - 100% legit, tasted just like the caprese I had in Rome a few years ago. The rigatoni with meat sauce was super tasty and just enough without being too much. The post-meal macchiato was really good and came with these cute little almond biscottis. The staff here (apparently from top to bottom) was so unfriendly and supercilious that we actually walked out midway through dinner (after paying the check, of course) and ended up having a lovely dinner at Sel et Poivre next door. Solid all around, but not overly inspiring, we stumbled upon this cute little italian joint after the AIPAD show on Saturday. Had a nice bottle of Proseco (overpriced) and a really great Veal Chop with a side of Quattro Formaggia Ravioli. Nice texture, with a simple tomato sauce. We also had a really great mesclun salad with truffled oil and avocado. The homemade pasta with walnut cream sauce was fantastic! Service was friendly and accomodating. Desert was a creamy light Tiramisu. Really solid spot in a wasteland of apartments. Wish I knew of more spots near here for decent family dining. read more

After making a a reservation a week in advance, we were literally asked to leave after 1 hr. and 40 minutes because they "needed the table" - were busy! They had been trying to pick up the check for ten minutes prior to actually asking us to leave. BAD TASTE. BIG MISTAKE. They lost 4 customers and with any luck, they should lose a few more. I really enjoyed Barbaresco. It's a tiny little Italian restaurant with incredibly nice (and fully authentic Italian) servers. The food is delicious; I especially enjoyed the Spaghetti with Clams and though the portions are hearty, I could have eaten two bowls. The wine is good, the scene is relatively quiet, but there is just something about the layout and decor of the restaurant that makes it less impressive than the food deserves. I would absolutely return for another meal...maybe on a third or fourth date. read more
