My roommate and I stopped here for dinner one Friday evening. The few restaurants we had in mind had waits of an hour or longer, but Sette Osteria was almost empty. We figured it must have been a new restaurant, since every other restaurant on 14th was so packed. We would soon discover that was not the reason this place was practically vacant. The staff was polite enough. The food arrived rather quickly. There weren't many orders ahead of us, of course. My friend and I both ordered steaks. She ordered the Tagliata Di Manzo, medium, and asked for truffle fries instead of the regular fries. I ordered Filetto Di Manzo, rare. It was accompanied by spinach and rosemary fingerling potatoes, and covered in a brandy peppercorn sauce. When the food arrived we were rather disappointed. My friend's steak was medium rare and she didn't receive truffle fries. My steak was medium, the spinach was soggy and flavorless, the three fingerling potatoes sans rosemary were just a little undercooked, and you know, lacking rosemary, and the sauce was completely bland. In my opinion, the food is on par with Applebee's or something like that. Only a little more expensive. At least we were able to sit outside. read more

I went here last night for dinner with my girlfriend and I won't be returning. I decided on Sette Osteria based on the fact there was outdoor seating available when other restaurants did not. That should have been the first clue in hindsight. They did bring out some really good bread to start out. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan and it was huge and looked wonderful. There was a hair in the sauce but that isn't a huge deal to me. The taste was good as well until I cut into the thicker part of the chicken and found that it wasn't cooked. The inside of the chicken was raw. Needless to say I stopped eating and wondered what I had ate up to that point. They did comp the raw chicken meal but it still left us with a bill of $45 for one entree and one carafe of wine. I'll remember this sick feeling when I see an open patio table along a street with busy restaurants. read more

Walked past this place on a Friday night and it was packed, so I figured it would be a good place to eat. The atmosphere is nice, but the restaurant is so loud. Like incredibly loud...I ordered the sea bass and carpaccio. The piece of fish was about 1cm thick with an a ton of bones. The fish was inedible. The entire rim of my place was filled with bones from the filet- the waitress noticed and asked what was wrong. When I told her she said the manager will not be able to decrease our bill. I then had food poisoning and was sick for two days. Stay far far away. There is a reason the old restaurant (M Cafe) shut down. It seems as though they only changed the name of the restaurant, not the actual food or service. read more

I went to Sette Osteria for the first time for dinner with one other person. We were able to sit outside right away. The bread was fantastic, right out of the oven. Drinks (wine and beer) were reasonably priced, as were the entrees, especially for homemade pasta! Service was great- I am not able to eat dairy, and they went out of their way to make sure I understood the ingredients of the pasta entrees. Will definitely return! read more

We flew into DC late and worried that we wouldn't find much open that would satisfy each of USA. Plus, we had dogs with us. Settle Osteria at Logan Circle was great! They have an outdoor patio so we could dine while keeping the dogs close by. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. PISS POOR service. NEVER EVER going back. DO NOT take anyone here visiting from out of town or someone that you want to impress in the slightest bit. The first time I went here, it was during happy hour. What seemed to be the lead waitress or bartender was very short with her attitude and cold. Very unfriendly and unwelcoming. It was the furthest from the type of customer service I would ever look forward to, and definitely not the type of service anyone should receive at a happy hour after a long day at work. I was highly disappointed. The second time I went, it was during happy hour again. Apparently I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt based on my first experience. Things were going just OK....I ordered a flatbread dish, and before I finished my meal, the bartender removed my plate. 1. The bartender DID NOT ASK "Are you finished here?" before he took my plate. 2. My plate, dining out or not, is never a mess. Always neat. There was no obvious flag or sign that I even MIGHT have been finished. I still had two neatly placed pieces of flatbread on my plate. 3. He took the plate so quickly and dashed it behind the bar before I could even get a word out. He had the nerve to return minutes later to ask if I wanted anything else-- my response was "Actually no, because you didn't even ask if I was done with my original meal. I wasn't finished eating and you removed it from me." 4. THIS PART KILLS: he then goes back behind the bar from wherever he dashed my uncompleted meal and starts motioning towards me. THIS DUDE IS BRINGING BACK THE FOOD THAT WENT GOD KNOWS WHERE BEHIND THE BAR AND OFFERING ME TO FINISH THE LEFTOVERS. U HAVE GOT TO BE MOTHER EFFING KIDDING ME. He saw the stale look on my face, really pissed off at this moment....and he says, "What? It's still good." I shook my head in disgust. I told him politely to keep the unfinished plate behind the bar where he took it in the first place without my permission. This is BY FAR THE WORST CASE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I live in the next neighborhood and frequent Logan Circle/U Street quite often. I WILL NEVER GO BACK to Sette Osteria on 14th street. That experience really put a damper in my evening. read more

Hungry after taking in a show at Studio, we strolled along 14th until we found an attractive-looking place still open quite late. Sette Osteria hit the spot: The food was tasty, the prices reasonable, the service friendly and quick. Unlike many other restaurants in the area, it was not excessively noisy -- at least where we were seated. I'd probably lean toward five stars -- except that I tend never to go above four. The location is prime real estate for 14th st, however restaurants don't seem to survive it. We were drawn here for their posted happy hour special of $10 any pizza. We got a salad which was $10 and was underwhelming. A few pieces of lettuce and bits of tomato; the food they serve in Orange is the New Black looked better. The manager offered to fix it and removed the item from the menu. The pizza was soggy, however tasted OK. Wine selection was OK, but pricey for what you get. This place has potential if they can get the equation right to attract a crowd and offer value to the locals. read more

This is my "go to" restaurant on 14th St for Italian. Always excellent quality, tasty and well prepared. Staff consistently friendly and helpful. The bar also has an excellent selection of nice wines (and Monday evenings wine by the glass is $6). I've never had to wait and the atmosphere is relaxing. read more

Last night my friends and I decided to go to Sette Osteria-- a restaurant that I generally love to take friends from out of town to for a special occasion, however tonight was hands down the worst dining experience I have had in the past 6 years of living in DC. From the moment we sat down, we could tell that our waitress, Karla F, was irritated about something. She was very curt to us, and ignored our request for bread for the table multiple times. We had ordered two bottles of prosecco at this point and were waiting for a friend to arrive, so we had ordered the bread and water and some appetizers. However we didn't even get the chance to order dinner because the second our friend walked in, the entire staff began to discriminate against him because of his slow rate of speech, which is a speaking quality that all of our friends know to be characteristic of our friend regardless of whether he has consumed any alcohol or not. Before our friend even got a chance to place an order, the waitress came over and told him her manager said that he could not be served alcohol. We were all speechless, we had a group of 7 coming for a special occasion dinner to celebrate friends moving abroad and another friend's new job. We were planning to order entrees and stay for a good hour or two, at least, celebrating. We asked if there was any reason for this, and the waitress told us first that it was her boss' decision and she was just following protocol, and then we asked her again and she confessed that she had just lied to us and that it was based on her own discriminatory judgments based on the way our only non-white friend looked and spoke. We had barely finished our appetizers and still had some wine to finish, so we asked for more bread to finish the dips/burrata that we had been allowed to purchase and were ignored for half an hour until they realized we would not be leaving without finishing the food we had paid for, and finally brought us bread. I don't know why this waitress chose to be so discriminatory to our friend with absolutely no basis, for his own celebratory dinner, but we will definitely not be back. read more

We sat outside on the lovely patio on a gorgeous DC night. I was surprised because it wasn't crowded which also made me a little nervous we made a bad choice but everything was great! They very willingly subbed my daughter's sauce choice on her kids pasta which was nice. My food was delicious and a good portion. My husband enjoyed his food very much too although felt the portion could have been larger. The bread basket was delicious. Surprised we had to pay for it but it was so good it was worth it. Though the food at Sette is consistently good, my last visit was marred by long delays in both getting seated (despite having a reservation) and in getting our food. After waiting 30 minutes for a table (despite having a reservation), it took 45 minutes after ordering to get out first course. Management was not very sympathetic. I've been here a few times enough to know that it can have its ups and downs just like any other restaurant. When a restaurant gets busy it's not always easy for employees to make a successful execution but considering the great customer service I've received here it's exceptional. You'll be greeted by a friendly hostess or Alec(the manager) that doesn't fail to make his rounds in the restaurant ensuring everyone is satisfied. If you're having any problems he'll most likely be able to find a solution for you. The food here is great for happy hours or dinner. Their happy hour is one of the best in town and my girlfriends can agree. Their pasta is amazinggg and considering the abundance of Italian restaurants in dc I can truly say the actual pasta (by itself) is delicious. The place can be packed some nights so if you plan on having dinner on weekends you should call ahead or expect a hefty wait (goes for most restaurants). I dropped by around 6:30pm on Saturday long before there was a dinner rush and was underwhelmed with the entire experience. The very minimal level of service was shocking and very disappointing. First, it took at least 10 minutes before a server arrived at our table to welcome us and take a drink order. Because we had so much time to wait, we placed the entire order when the server arrived; we didn't know how long we would have to wait again! Second, the server paid minimal attention to the table. For example, I had to ask them to clean it for us and when she did, it was a partial job because there was still food on the table. Third, the server brought the bill even though we hadn't finished our meal. In addition to the poor service, the food was also underwhelming. We had grilled vegetables which didn't have any flavor (not even salt) and a pizza with topppings that immediately SLID off (that includes the sauce and the cheese!) the slice up picking it up. Finally, I recommend not eating outdoors...the mosquitoes will eat you alive. The only positive aspects were that the food arrived quickly and the mango sorbet as well as the pistachio gelato were really good. I will certainly not return to this restuarant or go to its other location. read more

This place was absolutely fantastic! Not only was the atmosphere uplifting and perfect for a Sunday brunch but our service was amazing! Not being from the DC area and just visiting for the weekend, my sister and I chose this place on a whim and we most definitely were not disappointed. We asked our server for suggestions, and my daring self went exactly with her recommendations which were impeccable. My sister had a sandwich which looked scrumptious and I went with the shrimp eggs Benedict; I was hesitant at first but this suggestion hit just the right spot for brunch! They also had an incredible deal for brunch with bottomless mimosas and Bellinis for only $15 which is a steal! We were there for a bit over 2 hours and the entire time the staff was welcoming and kind and made us feel at home, I especially appreciated the fact they didn't try to rush us out as my sister and I were catching up. Friendly service without hassle--I've always felt welcomed and well taken care of, even when dining alone or just getting a mimosa on the patio on a weekend. Wine carafes--great option for lunch for two people, more affordable and less than a bottle. Consistent food--I've loved the pizza and the steamed mussels, and I'm still trying to discover my favorite salad. Overall, I feel that Sette Osteria delivers in areas like service, especially in a neighborhood that gets so busy that service is sometimes lacking. read more

Similarly, the courteous hospitality displayed by the entire staff represents a pleasant respite from the usual synthetic pleasantries manifested at most restaurants. Additionally, despite the fact that I live in Bethesda, there is little hesitation involved when embarking on the 20 minute ride to this 14th Street gem. At first I noticed that the menu was fairly cheap, and now I feel as though I have over paid. The meatballs tasted as though they were store bought from the frozen section. My partner and I stumbled upon this place while searching for a place for a hearty dinner for date night. We were seated immediately, and our server was very attentive. I decided to get the Sauvignon Blanc and he got the mango cocktail, which were both delicious. For food, I got the classic lasagna and he got the cavatelli all indiavolata. We followed up with dessert: he got the apple tart and I got the tiramisu. The food was absolutely delicious and our drinks paired perfectly. The desserts are what I would come back for! All this for $50 per person was a sweet deal. The ambience was lovely, loud enough to be comfortable and informal, but the soft lighting made it classy. Upon our arrival, my wife and I order two pizzas. Meanwhile, the waitress brings us two bowls with condiments. We notice that one of the bowls is dirty with a green sauce, and there's a kind of piece of shrimp attached to it. After a while the waitress arrives with just one pizza, and we point out the incident. She returns with the same little bowls, lightly cleaned but always dirty, and does not even clean the table. She asks us: do you need anything else? And we: yes, we are waiting for the second pizza. After 20 minutes the pizza still does not arrive, and I start to get impatient. The head waiter approaches to ask if everything was fine, and I point out that we had ordered two pizza, not just one. After another 20 minutes, my pizza had not arrived yet. I call the waitress again, and she asks me: do you want pizza or salad? And me: pizza, pizza! After another 20 minutes we are still there, and I ask the waitress to bring us the bill because I had enough to wait. I had to ask for the bill a second time, because it did not arrive. In the end, another waiter arrived and brought us the bill of two pizzas, although only one came. The second pizza on the bill was not even the one I ordered. Obviously we asked to pay only one pizza, since the second one had never arrived. And so we left. The worst thing is that nobody apologized. The worst experience in a restaurant, unfortunately you can not give negative scores ... I forgot: the pizza was not even decent. read more
