Coda Rouge, I commend you for a superb Valentine's Day dinner…read more I've experienced lunch at Coda Rouge a few times, but this special occasion, the five-course prix fixe aphrodisiac menu, was next-level dining. Why? The opportunity to experience the live painting artwork by Bryan "Prolifik" Hickman, artist and creator of the Tuskegee Airman mural on the side wall of Coda Rouge. The added ambiance of Singer's Lounge, Phebe West, singing lovely, familiar tunes. And last but not least, the intimacy of meeting Coda Rouge chef, Sachiko Tashiana, who trained under renowned chef Wolfgang Puck. And all hands on deck from the chef's family, who helped make the evening special. Finally, the presentation of each of the five courses and the food was superb. If you have never experienced Coda Rouge, you must add it to your short list of Harrisburg fine dining experiences.

The food, the ambiance, the service, were all top tier. When you visit your first time you are given complimentary mimosas, Brian & Estelle are a match made in heaven, they are attentive, informative, and just as polite as can be. The food was literally so yummy and we only got the classic breakfast. I cannot wait to come back for more yummy foods, and great conversation. This is the kind of restaurant you want to become a regular at! Thank you so much coda rouge.

The coffee at the bookstore can propel you to all the nearby arts or small shops, or help you on your way back to the capital grounds back for a small walk back to the heart of downtown.

You can get lost in the stacks across multiple levels of the buildings. There is ample seating around a performance stage and overhead in the gallery. I appreciate the layout where people can gather in the main area around the stage, but then slip away into the stacks to browse or have a quiet chat. I can buy a book and a pastry and people-watch from a table overlooking the stage or just write in peace to the sound of jazz or the gentle rhubarb of polite conversation. In Harrisburg, it is a great place to meet people who share your interests, especially during these events. I've found it easy to talk with people about various subjects, which, as this is a "scholarly" bookstore, makes a lot of sense. I've actually managed to locate a few rare tomes and art pieces here over the years. Communication, however, is spotty. I've sent several inquiry emails that went unanswered. I've made phone calls where the callback with information never came. When dealing with the staff, they are cordial and professional with the immediate sale, but never seem interested in me or my money if they have to do additional work or communicate with me. I now only approach them looking for material if other locations fall through. But overall, if you want to spend some time with the kind of books you won't find at your local B&N, dive into a complex topic with the latest academic text, or just find something new and interesting, this is worth a trip to the city.

After Cinco de Mayo…read more It was a rainy day here in Harrisburg, PA. I took a job in Lancaster, but first, I needed my coffee--I think I'm addicted to it now! The day before, I had a great cup from Passenger, but today I stopped by Little Amps in downtown Harrisburg before hitting the road. The atmosphere was excellent; it reminded me of home in LA with the records playing, dim lighting, and vintage decor everywhere. I felt a bit torn, like one coffee house wanted me to stay and the other wanted me to leave, so I decided to "break myself in half" and visit both. After all, two of me is better than one! I highly rate Little Amps for the scenery. The vintage look and the outdoor seating make you feel like you're in Manhattan or Paris, giving you the vibe of three places all in one. If you haven't been to any of these spots yet, save your money and just visit Little Amps to get that "all-in-one" experience. The staff is very inviting and they do offer bagels, though I have to be honest: they aren't quite as good as New York bagels. I know New York bagels inside and out, and they know me! I hope my review helps you decide where to get your next caffeine fix.

It's clear that little amp cares about its community, which beyond great coffee is the best to have. A space where people are safe, welcomed, and supported. The chai late was amazing, as well was my partners espresso tonic. But what we loved most was how open, welcoming, and loving the space and staff were.
