All I can say is WOW! This place is amazing! Marissa (hope I spelled her name right) was our waitress and was absolutely wonderful. She was incredibly pleasant and gave us both food and drink recommendations and she was spot on. So, huge thank you to Marissa!! Starting with drinks. We had the Key Lime Martini (pictured here) and it is by far the best drink I've ever had in my entire life! A must order! Moving onto the food. We started with the smoked mahi appetizer. I had never had mahi smoked before and it was wonderful. We had the yellow snapper curry and the grouper with angel hair pasta (also pictured here). Both were cooked to perfection and fresh out of the waters here in Key West. One of the best dining experiences we've ever had. I've been to KW many times. I wish I would have visited Seven Fish my first visit here. First timer last night; lovely service from the hostess to the bar. We did not make reservations and were dressed pretty casual, so asked if we could grab seats at the bar. Our bartender (sadly, we did not catch his name) was very kind and gave us great service and some laughs. In addition to the snapper thai curry, we ordered the Tuna Poke (Fresh tuna, cucumber, avocado and mixed greens), and the best Caesar Salad I've ever had (it's called Three Cheese Caesar) I consider myself a Caesar salad Ninja so consider this to be a huge compliment! The Thai Snapper by the way was so fresh and prepared with sticky rice and broccoli and carrots. It was Awesome! They also make their own bread. All excellent ! It was an overall fun, night. We will probably return before heading home. Thank you guys for a fun and delish evening. read more

We were here 10 years ago and remembered how much we loved it so we came back. Unfortunately, it lost its Key West vibe after it moved into its larger and new location. Our first appetizer was very disappointing. We ordered tuna poke expecting fresh tuna. It was clearly, not. After that we had the mixed salad with roasted red peppers and goat cheese and added the crab cake. That was delicious. It came with a rosemary flavored bread. The waitress even offered another slice which surprised us; considering she wasn't very nice in the beginning because we wanted to take our time ordering our meals while we were enjoying our drinks. That was really the biggest negative of the whole experience. The waitress was very uppity! The main dish, mahi-mahi grilled with potatoes and veggies was very tasty. Overall, the meal was good but not amazing enough to say we'll ever come back. read more

My dinner companion and I both thought that seven fish is average. We tried eating at their other location last time we were in town, but couldn't get a table. He said his mixed grill was ok. My crab cake was meh. It had slices of garlic on top. The crab cake didn't have any lumps of crab meat, kind of expensive for what it was. The wait staff was attention. read more

Seven fish provides a nice pace of change in Key West by offering a nice sit-down restaurant compared to the numerous fast-casual establishments. I was able to try their crab cake and it was decent. I've had much better crab cakes in Maryland and Virginia (to be expected); however, I enjoyed the entrees I was able to try. read more

We always enjoyed Seven Fish at their smaller location on Olivia. This is our first time dining at the new location on Truman. It is our favorite restaurant for dinner in Key West. We sat on the right side of the room which we found lively but not noisy in a way that interfered with conversation. The preparation and presentation equal the standards maintained. We had the fresh fish (yellow snapper) and the grilled skewers of chicken and shrimp. A reasonable selection of wines and cocktails is available. The staff remains welcoming and friendly in the style you expect in Key West. We look forward to returning. Four stars for food and ambience, five for the friendly staff and front of house. read more

Amazing. Reservations required so be sure to make them as they are only open specific hours. The ambience was awesome, great bar and seating area. We had the shrimp salsa as an app and this sentence in NO WAY does it justice. It had mango, red onion, scallions, and shrimp in red sauce (salsa base) and it came with like dusted tortilla chips. My tongue seriously was doing cartwheels for hours after. We then segued into dinner, where my partner got baby scallions, penne, shrimp and mushrooms in a light cream sauce and I got the jumbo scallops w a mash and pea purée. The pasta dish was awesome and has just the right amount of sauce so it wasn't drowning. The jumbo scallops were fresh and the size of a silver dollar or bigger and almost and 1" thick. We skipped dessert as we were full and it was our first night in EWY. Thy had specials and a great wine selection along with a full sexed bar! Will be a definite return visit when we come back next year. read more

I would highly recommend a reservation. Even the bar is full with diners. The service and food was great. We had the spicy tuna appetizer. It was pretty good for not being a sushi restaurant. I had the grouper with sushi rice and Thai sauce. It was cooked well and full of flavor. My fiancé had the scallops with mashed potatoes with pea puree. That was good as well. The bar tender was very good and made a very competent bourbon old fashioned. My only complaint about Key west is that most of the bartenders can't make a decent mixed drink. It's still mostly a shot and a beer town. When I find a good bar I will go back! read more

The space is very, very loud. Not because there was loud music playing, or because there was a rowdy crowd -- the high ceilings were just not designed for conversation. Upside: cheap, strong, delicious drinks. Downside: Bland, expensive, unadventurous entrees. I had an mound of angel hair pasta topped with the sweetest tomato sauce I'd ever had; there was not enough sauce for the pasta. The fish on top was fine. My boyfriend had a 'curried' dish that maybe had some turmeric-stained cream, and not much else to warrant the name. read more

A dinning experience that must not be missed. Went for a birthday celebration on the 4th of July. Starting with the key lime cocktail which is as just perfect. We had the mahi appetizer and the highlight was the scallop and mashed potato entree which I will be dreaming about for sometime. This is one of the few outstanding restaurants in the Keys, good quality isn't as easy to find as one might think. I was fortunate enough to stumble into this place, so happy I did. I started off with the lobster ravioli's, which were absolutely tantalizing. For my main course, I had the fried fish. Unfortunately, my phone died while I was there and I wasn't able to photograph it. Trust me, the presentation is just as impressive as the flavor. They also have a nice wine list and exceptional craft cocktails. The ambience is romantic, you can even sit outside. I opted for the bar, always easier to get a cocktail that way. What else could you possibly want in margaritaville? A tucked away neighborhood restaurant, intimate, minimalist vibe, dim lighting, a casual islandy feel but no sense of generic touristiness. Trekking up Olivia Street from Duval feels like you've actually (finally) hit the islands. In your wake rests the throngs of tacky travelers and drunk frat boys. No reservation? Head there around 9pm. Order the sushi special, it's bound to feature the freshest catch of the day. And while it may be $30 or so, go with the fish special, particularly the Thai curry option if it's available. read more

It's small. Do yourself a favor and ditch your crew so's you can get a table. Either take a date or roll solo but however you get here, make reservations. Walking up to the door and expecting to get seated during this decade is a grave error. If you're looking for a table for three or more, you're going to wait for a while and you don't want to wait for this. One, likely, doesn't come to Key West for higher-end food. The usual reasons for visiting KW is to relax, unwind and take things easy. Well, you can do both things at Seven Fish. You can eat higher-end food (with the requisite service) in a relaxed setting. It's the best of both worlds. Despite a rocky start, my waitress and I ended the dining experience on excellent terms. I had a taste for a specific type of wine and after a couple of up-sells, we finally got it right. What she may have lacked in wine ordering finesse, she made up for in sass and food knowledge. Her suggestions were hits and I was only disappointed that I was unable to take down dessert (I had to save room for drinking -- another reason for visiting Key West). I started with the shrimp salsa. It sounds basic, but the shellfish combined with the veggies and tropical fruit add up for a truly lovely way to begin the meal. Everything tasted fresh and light and very key West (if that makes any sense). The portions tend to be on the larger side, so I felt that ordering something light and palate-pleasing was the right way to go. That said, I was also eying the wild mushroom quesadilla but didn't get it because it would compete with my entree. My entree. I decided on the bleu cheese gnocchi. Yes, I am that guy who comes to Seven Fish and gets a pasta dish. But... hear me out. 1.) The dish came with sauteed fish (so between that and my app, I felt I did right by the restaurant and setting) and 2.) It.Was.DELICIOUS. Oh man. I am not the world's biggest gnocchi fan but when I told my waitress that I was contemplating the mushroom quesadilla because I had the taste for something earthy, she steered me in this direction. The cheese is the star of the show, no doubt, but the mushroom sauce paired with the fish added dimensions of flavor that caused me to alternate between devouring my plate and chewing way too much so as to savor the flavor. Magically delicious. As it was and as hungry as I was, I was unable to finish my plate. No worries. My waitress boxed it up and told me the best time and way to eat the leftovers. They didn't make it home, though. Some college kids who thought it was hip to beg on the street divested me of the meal (willingly). SMH @ kids these days. That's, however, neither here nor there. Ever since the first time my dad baked a Mrs. Smith's blueberry pie and I accidentally on purpose ate the entire thing while sneaking some late night TV when I was 10, I've been a pie lover. Over the years, I've loved all sorts of pies and even tried my hand at baking a few. Peach pies in the summer, pumpkin and apple pies in the fall, coconut custard pies in the winter and we were in Key West specifically to do a key lime pie crawl. You could say that I've been around the pie block. And yet... The Strawberry Pie at Seven Fish (~$8) changed my whole perspective on pies. It was like I was partially color-blind and now I can see in technicolor. Because that strawberry pie PACKS A RIDICULOUS PUNCH! It should have it's own fan club! It's that good. I know for a fact that I'll be using up and possibly wasting a lot of good ingredients trying to replicate that finnnnnnnne pie at home. There are things you need to know: 1. It's the best pie that I, Fats, have ever had the pleasure of eating 2. They only make 8-9 slices a day 3. They sell out pretty much EVERY day 4. If you are eating at 9p, you'll want to reserve your slice when you place your drink orders (don't say I didn't warn you!) We liked the pie so much, we got 2 slices for take out AFTER our dinner at Latitudes. Shout out to Pete for hooking us up! You rock, and we enjoyed every bite of that pie! If it looks like a roadside shack from the outside, well, that's kinda what it is. Only those armed with a Yelp smartphone app, a recommendation from a friend, or a penchant for wandering neighborhood back streets would ever find it. Your typical cruise-ship masses won't, which alone is reason enough to go. For my part, I'd ridden my bike by this place countless times over the years, and never really stopped to think about it. Inside, it's tiny and minimally decorated in the modern style, a little like a place one would expect to find in Miami's Design District, yet with a few spare tropical trinkets in concession to its island location. It was packed when we arrived with no reservation, even just a little after their 6PM open. I approached, resigned to the idea that we probably wouldn't be able to get a table, but as luck would have it, one remained, and they were more than happy to seat us. The tables themselves are in close quarters, so expect to hear every tidbit of any adjacent conversation. Starting out with the mahi roll on special, very tasty sushi roll. Ceviche featured shrimp, conch and scallops on a bed of fresh-looking greens. I think it could have used a bit more tart lime, but it did showcase the taste of pure fresh seafood with little adulteration. For the main course, we tried snapper with Thai curry. It came out thoughtfully split, and looked awesome. The snapper was great, and I of course mopped it up quickly, but my main criticism would be that I just didn't taste much actual Thai curry in the sauce. With little of the pungency one would expect from said curry, the sauce just fell to what I would describe as kind of a flat coconut. The fish was certainly still quality, and the dish good, but it simply didn't pop with that curry flavor the way I expected it to. I can accept that perhaps this was an off-night for the curry sauce, as no other reviewer seems to have had the same issue. When I saw sweet potato pie on the dessert menu, I had to have it. One doesn't see pie on Key West menus too often outside of the ubiquitous, rarely-well-executed Key Lime Pie. Now this I thought was spot on. I very much enjoyed the slight caramelization on the top and the meaty, not-so-overly-sweet sweet potato filling. A generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on the top definitely made this "my kind of dessert." Seven Fish is a wonderful less-touristy option for getting away from the tiresome obnoxious-loud-dive aspect that permeates much of Duval St. Overall, a positive dining experience - I'm sure I'll be back to give the curry another try. read more

One fish two fish, red fish blue fish. The vast array of seafood options in key west is pretty staggering. It's about as difficult to find a fish restaurant as it is to find a drunk college kid in Key West. Since Seven Fish was reported to be one of the better options in the area, we decided to check it out. Foolishly, we didn't plan ahead and make reservations, and in the expectation of impending disappointment we went over right when they opened. As it happened, we were incredibly fortunate, and managed to snag their only two seater available for the next few hours. If you're considering the play the table lottery, I'd urge you to refrain! Upon exiting there was a pretty sizable crowd gathered round waiting (they hadn't been pulling our leg after all), every bit the popular spot the reviews claim. The venue itself is hidden in a lovely tree-lined residential area. It isn't the largest of spaces, so they pack the tables kind of close to each other in an appreciated attempt to cram as many patrons as possible (the more they can fit, the quicker the wait will be). Were it not for the inevitable conversation with your neighbors, it would be quite romantic since it is so dim. There is a small bar by the entrance with some funky hanging lamps but otherwise the decor is pretty minimal. Anyways, the menu looked fairly straightforward but they also had a few other specials our server told us about. We started with a ceviche and their mahi sushi roll. They arrived straightaway, the sushi looking fairly standard with 5 large-ish pieces of seaweed-wrapped, cooked white fish, avocado, and a bowl of soy sauce rimmed with ginger and wasabi. The mahi itself was fine but I was underwhelmed, it wasn't really anything more flavorful or significantly better than any other decent sushi restaurant. Next was the ceviche, with a mixture of conch, shrimp and scallops. In addition to the seafood there was LOTS of minced bell peppers and green onions, tossed atop a bed of lettuce. The meat in it was reasonably fresh, but I do think I've had better ceviche elsewhere (I actually preferred the one served at Kelly's in Key West). I don't know if it just wasn't enough lime or too many other fillers, but something about it just didn't do it for me. Curried snapper with rice was our entree of choice, and they kindly split it into two portions for us. Alongside the main, we were each given a hunk of their potato and herb foccacia, which was thick, rich, and one of the best breads made anywhere. I couldn't stop tearing off pieces to try to sop up every possible drop of creamy coconut curry. The snapper was tender and fresh, although I thought it could have used, dare I say it, a bit more kick to the sauce. I am typically a huge advocate of keeping food flavorful yet mild, but the addition or more curry or perhaps even the slightest hint of hot sauce might have added a lot. Strips of veggies, which included more of their bell peppers and some broccoli, added a nice touch of color. For dessert we went with one of the Thanksgiving classic staples, sweet potato pie. Since sweet potato is such a naturally dulcet flavor, it makes a tasty dessert that isn't overly cloying. Baked into a graham cracker crust and topped with vanilla ice cream, it's the dish I've had dozens of times and never tire of. Seven Fish's wasn't was particularly creative, nor did it veer wildly away from the classic pie, but I must admit this isn't an item frequently seen on year-round menus and I am grateful for the option. I wouldn't say it was the best seafood meal I've ever had, however, I definitely thought it was fresh and the portions were ample. Other people seem to really love this place though, so maybe I just didn't get quite the right items! I was looking forward to the crab cake with a ginger garlic sauce for my app. But beware of this dish bc it's not your typical crab cake. When it was brought out the waitress said "here's your crab, crawfish and fish cake." The menu clearly says crab cake and nothing about crawfish or fish. It wasn't all that great and I ended up sending it back. I told the waitress that I didn't care for it and her reply was "it's not a Maryland crab cake this is a southern crab cake." To be honest I didn't expect a Maryland crab cake. But if I order a crab cake be honest on the menu and tell me there is other stuff mixed in. This place is average at best. I use Yelp for everything. So, when I saw 4.5 stars, I thought this place would be a no-brainer. I was wrong. Our table was ready on time (make sure to make a reservation) and the staff very helpful. The food was very average. We had four people in our group and all got something different. The appetizers (sushi rolls) were the best thing we ordered, but one of the rolls was blah. The shrimp in the scampi wer overcooked and limp. The salmon with curry was bland and uninspiring. The only winner were the scallops. And, worst of all, the manager actually asked us to get up from our table because a large group (without a reservation) was waiting outside. I have eaten all over the world in places cheap and expensive, and NEVER have I been asked to move from a table....especially after having appetizers, three bottles of wine, four mains, and dessert. There is no hype its a very good restaurant. I found the decor and presentation to be tasteful and sophisticated. The theme of 7 fish was in every item adorning the walls; it was really nicely done. When you serve good food there is never any need for ridiculous bells and whistles. White plates are all you need! It is small intimate, dimly lit and most certainly requires reservations. The particular neighborhood in Key West it is located in, is also very charming. The service was warm and very good; the server was easy to converse with about the food and Key West in general. They had an interesting wine selection and it was easy to pick a nice bottle and not break the bank- $30?- not bad! The grouper with the spicy tropical fruit chutney sauce was out of this world. Ive never had grouper in my life and it was delicious. The chutney with spice and million differnt tropical flavors was soooooooo damn good. The banana walnut chicken was odd to read on the menu, but excellent. Even if you dont like sweet and savory, you will like this chicken; its that good. Thank God we didnt get another piece of Key Lime pie. We got some real southern sweet potato pie with homemade vanilla ice cream, and it was awesome, I mean really awesome. This is the 1st time in the new building on Truman. Loud and not warm feeling. Lighting was cool though. Greeted warmly and sat right down. Excellent service, attentive but not overbearing. Ordered a seared tuna special over penne with goat cheese. Overseasoned with a heavy hand of an Italian herbs mix, overpowering even the goat cheese. My date ordered a shrimp scampi and we we asked for the pasta al dente, no go. Chef will not cook pasta to order. The scampi had a handfull of the same itailian herb mix. What a shame. Such a nice venue and well trained staff in place only to have a chef not cook to order and through herbs on which overpower the subtle flavors of fish. I watch the reviews for improvement and try again. YMMV. read more

We were referred to Seven Fish in December by our concierge and were SO happy that we took him up on his suggestion! I told him that we were looking for a nice, locals type, restaurant with good seafood to celebrate my husband's birthday and this restaurant definitely fit the bill! We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time, were seated promptly and had our appetizers, entree, and dessert within a short time. I think we were in and out of the restaurant in a little over an hour, but at no point felt rushed. Everything was great! We had the ceviche, a salad, the Thai snapper, and the scallops dish. For dessert they remembered it was my hubby's birthday without my reminding them (they knew from reservation) and brought out a brownie sundae with a candle and everyone sang happy birthday- nice touch since I didn't request it. I enjoyed Seven Fish so much that I returned to Key West with some of my girlfriends to celebrate one's bachelorette and I brought them all here for dinner. That, to me, says a lot. IMO, the best compliment in business is a referral or return customer ;) I am happy to say that EVERY single girl loved Seven Fish and all said they'd return when visiting Key West again. read more

We ordered: Apps: Shrimp Salsa Crabcake Entree: Grouper (I think- I was a few drinks in- but doesn't really matter) with Chutney Snapper with Curry The shrimp salsa was good, but it was served with Tostitos Salt & Lime chips straight out of the bag. That was the first red flag. The crabcake was good; not great but pretty good. Both fish dishes were tasty, but both presented poorly and served with frozen vegetables. FROZEN VEGETABLES. It both looked and tasted like a TV dinner. It's really a shame because the fish was very tasty, but I just couldn't get over the fact that I was paying for Tostitos chips and frozen vegetables. I wouldn't go back. I'm glad I went but I really don't understand all of these great reviews. I thought Nine One Five was far better than SevenFish at the same prices. read more

I got the gnocchi with Key West pink shrimp. The blue cheese cream sauce was yummy, as was the hand-made gnocchi. However, the "sprouted peas" were terrible in this dish! Their texture, akin to a dehydrated-and-not-yet-rehydrated dry English pea, clashed with the rich mouth-feel of the creamy gnocchi. I hated the sprouted pea mouth-feel so much that I just picked them out of every bite. I could eat the peas in some other dish, but not with tender gnocchi. When I spoke with the server about it, she said the chef was ardent about the sprouted peas, so I didn't feel like arguing with the chef about the construction of this dish, but I hated the peas-and-gnocchi combo. Dining companion ordered the yellowtail snapper with ginger-garlic curry. It was very good. Service was very good. read more
