We were able to have a Fabulous Birthday Dinner for my mom! I came here years ago absolutely loved it. So I wanted to celebrate my mom's birthday here and she loved it. We ordered the seafood ceviche to start and it was a good portion to share with multiple people. I also had a rum runner that was delicious and for our main dish we decided to order the chefs feast for two. That dish was perfect to share and the seafood was delicious. You get a grilled filet fish big enough to share and nice size scallops with grilled shrimp skewers for each person. I enjoyed the sushi sticky rice with grilled vegetables. Disappointing Birthday Dinner at this Highly-Rated Seafood Restaurant My dining experience at Seven Fish last night was, regrettably, a nightmare. This restaurant comes highly recommended, but our visit was marred by a series of unfortunate events. To celebrate a friend's birthday, we ordered a 2-pound lobster from the daily specials menu. Expecting a delightful feast, we were instead met with a lobster whose shell was impossibly rubbery and uncrackable. After struggling to break it ourselves, we had to send it back to the kitchen for further cracking--a disappointing interruption to what should have been a seamless dining experience. When the lobster finally returned, the meat's off color immediately raised concerns. However, trusting the restaurant's reputation, we proceeded to eat it. This was a grave mistake. Within 40 minutes, both my friend and I fell violently ill. What should have been a joyous celebration turned into a nightmare as we spent the rest of the evening near restrooms, suffering from severe stomach issues. I am deeply disappointed and cannot recommend Seven Fish to anyone seeking a reliable and enjoyable dining experience. All the dishes were very well done. The loss of star probably was the old fashion. Looking at it, seemed out of place from the fine food that followed it. The glass was tired and old. The orange WEDGE should have been an orange peel. The ice should have been clear and more like a cube. I think they need to up their bartending game a few notches. The banana chicken was quite a surprise. Daughter enjoyed it throughly. The pastas were very good and generous with both the shrimp and mahi mahi fish. The mixed grill was also quite generous with all of the seafood. Very much enjoyed. This place is a great spot. I am surprised that so many people I have talked to during this vacation have not been there. They truly don't know what they are missing. It is a hip and easy atmosphere. It is a little more dressy than other places but casual is still the norm. The food is so amazing. Appetizers included smoked mahi-mahi with a remoulade and crackers and an eggplant bruschetta. Crazy good. My wife had the banana chicken which featured caramelized bananas and walnuts in a rich sauce. Never tasted anything like it. I had grilled wahoo with a mango Jalapeño chutney served over angel hair pasta that was soooo fabulous. Perfect cocktails were served and they had a fabulous selection of wine by the glass or bottle. Why does this place have good ratings? The service was fine but food was board line worst I've had. I've got the scallops which were around 50$ and atrocious. Cooked horribly, like eating rubber, absolutely no sear at all and the toppings were completely burnt. The pea purée should have been under the scallops but was on the flavorless potatoes... how can you mess up mashed potatoes? Do not get anything with mashed potatoes here. I visited this establishment late. They were shutting down, the door was unlocked and we noticed they were cleaning up from the days business. The employee surprisingly invited us in. We had a terrible day with getting a place to stay after traveling all day.(our VRBO reservation ugh) We sat at the bar and I asked the bartender for a martini and he responded that he liked to make them a little dirty. It was perfect. He also suggested we try the days special, which we did. Anyway, started with an an expertly made Old Fashioned. They have an excellent wine menu as well. One of the appetizers of the evening was freshly made hummus. Hubby had the grilled Mahi Mahi which he really enjoyed. I had their specialty curry Yellowtail Snapper in a cream sauce with house made focaccia and veggies. Expert service and atmosphere. If coming from the historic district drive down Elizabeth and see the cemetery about 2-3 blocks away. Taking the side roads is a way to see the real Key West especially if you rent a bike. We arrived at 5:56pm and were greeted with a smile and led immediately to a table! I double checked and yes, they don't open until 6pm. Our server came quickly and was super sweet. She helped us with drink suggestions. My husband ordered the Papas Daiquiri and I had the juicy watermelon to start. Both drinks were AMAZING and strong- which we appreciate. We ordered 2 appetizers. My son wanted the shrimp salsa and I ordered the grilled key west pink shrimp. The salsa was fresh and flavorful. My son polished it off quickly- allowing us a taste. The pinks came out and were also great- with a nice slaw that we all shared. Second round of drinks I got the Aviation. Again, strong and tasty. He likes the wahoo he had at Square Grouper a few nights earlier better but said this was a close second. I am so happy I decided to get the same thing my husband ordered- which I usually don't do. We usually try or order different things to try various dishes. I'm so happy to have experienced this dish! I will be back to have this- please NEVER take this off the menu. My son's fish tacos were excellent as well and he ate them all. I ordered a Rum Runner during my meal and it was a very good version of the drink. Our server said it was her favorite and I see why. My husband liked it too- but he said his Papas Daiquiri is his favorite drink he has ever gotten anywhere. That is saying a lot. Last up we had to try dessert. My son loves everything key lime so he got the key lime pie and my husband and I shared the strawberry pie. Stayed at a guest house in which people recommend this place. We gave it a try We ordered the Caeser, the fish with a curry and the strawberry pie. Which was delicious. Loved that they fried up the ginger in the fish dish which gave it a better flavor profile. Which it's something that my mom did growing up. The strawberry pie was very light and refreshing. The Caeser was a good salad. The tuna special didn't really cared for. But over all it was a great choice. What made the experience even better was the bartender.
