The small business locally owned pet supply store in Campbell suddenly just closed with zero warning last month. My cat is super fussy about his food and his food is hard to find. Pet People was recommended to me so I checked it out. I went onto their website and omgosh they stock the food I needed! I was so relieved. I saw that they deliver if you are in range and omgosh again! I was in range so I ordered and that evening everything was delivered to my house. It was so great!! I went there for food for my dog to take her meds with and they were super nice and brought me to cans of food that my dog ended up LOVING. I did not have to negotiate with my dog at all to take her meds. I'm going to look now for the name of the food but the point is, they really knew their stuff and were down to earth and friendly. Their delivery service was always on time, and they were always helpful, especially with regards to finding food for my elderly diabetic pug, Gia. I always love supporting local pet businesses in the area and seek out to find smaller ones in an area overwhelmed with corporations. After my usual small pet business in Sunnyvale closed down a couple years ago, I was recommended this location tucked away near Los Gatos downtown! I was actually recommended by Rabbit Haven, since they also host their rabbit adoption events here once a month. For context, I have one rabbit, one cat and one dog so when looking for pet businesses to patronize, I needed a place for all my fur baby needs. The location seems small from the outside but there's a lot of rooms in the back as well as a garage for their extended inventory! For my specific needs, there's a variety of different brands of cat foods that aren't available at most big box pet stores, bigger size dog kibble packages and large quantities of hay! They also sell canned food by the box similar to how an online pet store would offer so this makes it very easy for me to stock up for a couple of months while being in a physical store. There's also a wide selection of toys and chews to make most pets a happy camper. Prices are sensible, and they also have a rewards program! I always love stacking up a specific brand of cat food by the box and get surprises during some visits to have a box free (buy 12 get 1 free)! Customer service is also excellent, every worker I've spoken to is very knowledgeable and familiar with pets, always asking more specific questions before recommending a food or item. On a slow day, some are willing to chat about their puppy raising experiences and their own pets! And most of the time, they offer to help carry your items to your car which is a very sweet gesture. Pet People is the perfect (ahem, purrfect) neighborhood pet store! I was wandering around town with my little shiba and came across this gem. Prices are fair, similar to the big chains, and staff are all so helpful and welcoming. There's a loyalty program and samples galore sprinkled throughout the store. These samples are pretty generous. I felt like I hit the jackpot whenever I came across one - it was like a scavenger hunt. I also found interesting items that I haven't seen elsewhere, so was excited to try them out. Case in point, I got a little toy that could also work as a slow feeder for my cat. Love this place and will most definitely pop by whenever I'm in the area. read more

I've been coming here monthly for at least the last year, but only because the Rabbit Haven uses this store for bunny health checks and nail trims once a month. I sometimes browse through the store while waiting for my 2 pet rabbits to finish. Two months in a row they were out of the large hay blend bags I typically get for my bunnies, so I didn't make any purchases. The first time (and only time) I actually bought something from Pet People was a few months ago -- a rabbit chew toy. I have no problem with their products. But my boyfriend and I had a negative experience with their customer service. It was not unusually busy, but we ended up waiting in line for at least 15 minutes, with only 2 customers in front of us (social-distanced of course). They were obviously regulars because the worker greeted them by name and started conversations with them as if he knew them. With the first customer, there was excessive talking that added to the wait time. With the second customer, there was a lot of talking, but she also had many small items. When it was our turn, there was no apology/sympathy for the long wait, there was no friendly greeting or even a smile, the worker was even distracted responding to someone else while ringing up our order, which was just one item. I didn't mind the wait because I was not in a hurry, but on a regular day, I think that's unreasonable. On top of that, my boyfriend was really upset and offended, felt like we were being discriminated against because we were not "regulars" (or for other reasons that I will not mention because I don't want to assume anything). It ruined his whole day, and made me feel bad as well, though I'm usually a pretty patient person (as a customer). For the record, the worker ringing us up was a white male with longer(ish) hair. I hate that I no longer want to suppport a small business like this, but first impressions have a huge impact, even if my ordeal was an anomoly. Overall, I'm trying to avoid an awful experience like that again. So I'll come here for the Rabbit Haven, but nothing else. read more

I came here today to bring 4 I repeat 4 rabbits in 3 different carriers to get their shots today and since it was my first time visiting for this occasion I didn't know where to park or how long the shot would take and I didn't see any no parking signs so I parked my car brought in the rabbits and while they were being seen I decided to shop around in the store. I walk in and the one employee at the counter was on his phone and didn't even say hello or lift his head up and after about a minute of looking around a women with long blond hair approached me and in a unnecessary tone and attitude told me I couldn't park like that and really made a already stressful situation for me worse! I told her she could have spoken to me nicer and I walked away to go move my car! I have many rabbits and many rabbit friends I would have loved to start giving you guys my business and start recommending your business to others but because of the way I was not only ignored and then scolded like a child by another adult not that much older than me was really embarrassing and quite frankly really made me mad to be treated like that when I didn't deserve it. You dont treat a customer like that. There is no sign that says no parking where I parked and I had 3 big carriers so of course I parked there! SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES. This place had the best reviews amongst other pet stores so I had to check it out myself. Came here looking for three things. A harness, leash, and collar. And before I even went in, the staff was already trying to assist. I could tell at first they were pensive answer my many questions, but in the end I got recommendations and what I wanted. For a small business I think it's important to have well informed staff about their products, new or old. I wanted a good harness for my mom's dog because my mom needed something easy for both her and her dog. The Ruffwear design was easy to strap and an easy handle grip to pick up a 20-25 dog. I am updating my earlier review in response to Pet People's libelous statments and other false claims: 1.Pet People falsely claimed I raised my voice/yelled and or brought a team member to tears. The team member became upset because she recognized my order was incorrect - she was hurried and stressed- at a loss for how handle a complex situation knowing another's pet would suffer because of Pet People's process failure. The employee's lack of training led to her emotional response. The alleged "yelling" simply did not occur. 2. Pet People's libelous statement is more than problematic- it is reckless and damaging. This aggressive business practice places Pet People at professional risk while hurting the community members it serves. My hope is ownership will examine this practice and create a more productive process for resolving issues with disatisfied customers. 3. I was never told of any "non gaurantee" around pandemic related supply chain issues as applied to Savage Cat. To the contrary, I was told I would receive the shipment weekly. To that end, my negative review was about a process failure. For pets with IBD, rare protein diets are life saving- alternative plans must be made if there is a production shortage. A simple phone call would have sufficed to share the order could not be completed so that I could secure an alternative. (Rather than filling the order with a food that would cause her disease to flare.) Pet People employees were informed of Sara's condition- I specifically requested rabbit to manage this condition. If no note was made, this falls on store management as another process failure. 4. Again- the pet store referenced in Cupertino shared they experienced no supply chain issue that week for Savage Cat Rabbit Food. I now order from Savage Cat directly given how wonderful this product is. I have experienced no supply chain or production issue during the whole of the pandemic. The only shortage experienced was through Pet People. (As mentioned by the respondee, I asked Pet People to help me find an alternative source/supplier for Sara's food given her order was filled with a product that would cause Sara's disease to flare. I find it strange this seems an odd or troublesome request .) 5. No manager came foward to speak with me during this visit to Pet People suggesting the manager was "offsite". I simply spoke with an individual who appeared to be "in charge." I find it odd I should have to "seek out" a manager. My main concern was finding food my pet could tolerate. Again- IBD in pets can lead to inflammatory responses that cascade- profuse vomiting for weeks on end. Sara's health was top of mind- I did not have time to be "Karen." 5. On 11/04/21 I called to speak to a manager to resolve the false and libelous statements made about me by Pet People and its management. I was told that the manager was again not onsite and that this issue did not rise to the level warranting an off hour contact him (3:58 PM) The employee stated she had "no way to contact him." 6. Upon asking for hours that the manager would be available for a conversation I was told that this information could not be given. The employee also stated: "this is about you and not an emergency about our store." 7. When gathering information and asking for details such as names of the Manager and employee I was speaking with I was told "I will need to hang up on you." as she did not feel comfortable sharing these details. Yelp is a forum for indviduls to share their buying experiences - when it becomes an avenue for businesses to deflect blame by making false claims regarding community members it becomes incredibly danagerous. I wish Pet People simply contacted me to resolve the issue and/or understand the situation rather than attack my character and make false statements. Moreover, I find it dishonest to defend policies and information not shared with me. Pet People escalated a situation that could have been resolved with positive outcome. read more

My spoiled mini dachshund and I come here semi regularly when we need fancy food to settle his stomach problems, cleanser for his sensitive ears, a new handmade collar, or some food supplements. Generally their supply of things is great, it was better before pandemic life but that's to be expected. The thing to be mindful of is this place is a small business so it's definitely slow going. It usually takes longer than the big box stores. The employees chat with regulars and can be somewhat not chatty with non regulars. It doesn't really bother me too much except when I'm trying to find something. No one is going to pop up and ask if you need help. You might like that some days and some days it's a pain. read more

Pet People is a great hidden animal store. I say hidden since it took my mom and I twenty minutes to walk to Pet People from downtown Los Gatos. I recommend asking your owners to drive you to the store before heading downtown if you have sensitive paws or do not like long walks. I was very energized and was up for the walk. As I walked into the store I was greeted by a very nice lady behind the cash register. She pet me, made me sit and gave me a treat. After the wonderful tasty treat, my mom and I began our shopping experience. We found all sorts of toys and accessories but my favorite part was the freezer. I do not eat dog ice cream/popsicles very often because they are hard for my mom to find. Street parking or a couple spots in front or one spot in the driveway where they sell large items like pet beds and crates. Small main store, but they sell all kinds of stuff. Came in from a recommendation of our neighbor. The staff asked us if we needed help so that was A for customer service and helped us find what we were looking for. Dehydrated carrots that's supposed to help with loose soft stools to be more formed. The cashier told us about their rewards program and signed me up fast and easy. Free samples toward the middle back shelf. Prices are expected to be higher since this is more of a pet boutique specialty store but feels good to support the smaller businesses. read more

Great customer service! I always stop by if I'm in the Los Gatos area. We have our dogs on a raw food diet, which can get pretty expensive. But the benefits of a raw food diet outweigh that only con. Their prices are slightly cheaper than Pet Foods Express. They are also the only place that carries Green Tripe, which we sometimes use as a treat. Not so friendly on my first time in. 3:30 PM On a rainy Friday afternoon and I thought it might be fun to take my year old dog in for some treats and maybe a new harness. I parked in their single "driveway" parking space which was marked "parking for pet people" BUT there was a work truck loading things from their garage (past my car) and since it was my first time in I politely asked if my car was ok there for a few minutes. Major attitude from the rainbow haired girl and the short haired gal behind the counter. "Welllll, it's a parking space." "I was just making sure I wasn't blocking that truck loading." (Silence + attitude) This on top of me coming into a 200 square foot independent business on a rainy day with no one else around and NO FRIENDLY greeting + an attitude? Pfffffft I took my money to pet food express. Had three separate employees greet me, tell my how cute my puppy was, ask her breed, offered to order me a medium sized frisbee AND a cheddar cheese treat sample. Maybe I caught these chicks at a bad time but, I just can't deal with no greeting in a tiny business with a snobby attitude when all I was trying to do was not block a car in. Ladies, when you are neurosurgeons doing volunteer work then maybe an attitude is warranted, but, you are selling kitty litter. Get over yourselves. read more

Nice family run pet store. Has all the necessities, though the store is small and parking can be a challenge. I usually park around the corner on the street to avoid finding the spaces on Santa Cruz full or the driveway used. My dog loves the dog biscuits sold in Bulk and they have a good selection of higher end Dog food too along with leashes, collars and toys. Awesome store for pets, especially for unique cat toys! I haven't seen this many Go Cat brand cat toys in any other pet stores in the Bay Area, and they also have a lot of toys that I haven't seen before at Petsmart or Petco. The prices are also really reasonable. The cost of the canned food is on the higher side, and there isn't much on sale, but I would definitely come back for more cat toys in the future. You can also join their rewards program- after accruing 500 points you get 10% off your entire purchase ($1 = 1 point, but you get 50 free points for signing up). You just won't find customer service better than this. This place has definitely raised the bar. I assume that I maybe met with the owner, but am not sure. I was feeling frustrated and overwhelmed about finding a new dog food for our doodles who have dietary allergies. He was very attentive when I discussed what the health issue were and my experience in trying to fit foods that they could eat. He discussed a number of different options in detail and even let me take home a couple of samples to try. I came home feeling a lot more informed and relieved to know that I had more options that I realized. This store has an excellent selection of products and also offer special orders if they don't carry what you are looking for. The products are also very high quality and feel that I can trust what I purchase here. While you may find lower prices somewhere else, this place more than makes up for it in customer service which I find lacking in so many other pet stores.
