They have repaired my older obscure computerized sewing machine in the past and did a great job at a reasonable cost. I am working with their wonderful staff member Jamie and she is helping me figure out what kind of sewing/embroidery machine might be right for me next.The 1:1 level of service has been greatly appreciated given the investment (time and $) that I put into my hobby. We have two experiences with Sew More Vacuums, both of them bad. First we brought a Beeville Espresso Machine in for repair. After collecting $150 deposit they did nothing and said they could not repair. We had to provide them direction to the Beeville repair manual as the technicians appeared incompetent. They returned the machine but would not return the deposit and simply gave us credit which they never honored. We returned three months later and bought to buy a Miele Canister and Stick Vacuum. Total price $3000 of which the stick vacuum cost about $750 of this. The stick vacuum failed after six weeks. We took it in for repair and were told that the damage was due to abuse. We simply vacuumedand c carpets, no abuse. They quoted a price to fix the vacuum and were told the total price for repair was approaching $400. This company is a bunch of shysters that should be avoided at all costs. Beware if you goes there. read more

Highly recommend "Sew More Than Vacuums". Honest, fair, professional. Saved my vacuum after "Vacuums R Us" refused to replace the faulty part they installed (said they "...had better things to do"). Without any hints from me, "Sew More Than Vacuums" identified the noisy, faulty clutch assembly that "Vacuums R Us" installed, got me a NEW one ("Vacuums R Us" claimed a new one would be hard to find and very expensive) and installed it for less than "Vacuums R Us" originally charged me for a rebuilt one. COMPLETE SCAM - BEWARE!!! I have a Breville Espresso machine that wouldn't power on. I called this company and explained the issue, which they said would not be a problem for them to fix as it is a very common machine and is something they are very familiar with fixing. On the phone I was told the repair cost would be in the range of $125-$250, but that they couldn't provide an exact quote until they identified the exact issue. When I arrived with the machine I was told the repair cost would be $250, as that was the standard fee for Breville espresso machines. When I asked about the quote provided on the phone, the clerk said he could apply a "coupon" and could drop the repair cost to $199, but that is the least he could charge - while stating they repair these machines all the time, so they now have a fixed price. I then paid the $199 fee and left them my machine. I received a call yesterday from their "tech" who informed me that the machine won't power on, but he didn't know why. He said the machine was old so Breville does not provide a schematic for them to use, and that the "power board" had a coating on it which distorted the writing on the board (this is actually called conformal coating, and is on just about every circuit board made - helps to prevent water damage). Therefore, because he did not have a schematic for the board and because Breville had placed a coating on the board, he could not identify what was wrong with the board. He explained that the $199 fee was a diagnostic fee, therefore I would not receive any money back. He then asked if I would like them to "recycle" my machine and they could just keep it. So, for $199 I was provided with the exact same information I provided them, but was given the option to just give them my machine. Quite a scam - and certainly makes you wonder how many "recycled" machines they go on to repair and then sell as used. read more

I came into the store as the clerks were finishing up with other customers. The other customers left and the clerks entered orders into their systems as I stood in front of them for 5-10 minutes. I was about to walk out when they finally helped me. I explained the problem and they said they could send the machine out for repairs. 4 years ago I had my sewing machine repaired through this location. It was $90. Today they quoted a basic repair for $142. I told them it was too expensive for a repair and walked out. One of the clerks offered to sell me a new machine as left the store. If they had better customer service I would have probably saved myself a trip to Longmont but it was clear that these were very green clerks with little experience. I went to Maggie's Sewing and Fabric on Main Street in Longmont. They had an on site machine technician and a beautiful display of vintage machines. The repair will be $99. Well worth the drive to experience friendly service and expert knowledge. read more

They lost trace of my $95 credit, are up charging on diagnostics, told me to go in on Tuesday to speak with their sewing expert who wasn't there. Tried to sell me a different sewing machine reasoning if mine needs repairs it's probably totally trashed, didn't listen to me when I said my bobbin was not the cause of my sewing machines need for repair as I had stored a bobbin in minor disarray but hadn't used the machine at all prior to its needs for repair. Kept changing their offer "trying to find middle ground" ended up confusing me. Plus the staff got too close to me and seemed negligent to covid 19 social distancing minus wearing a mask.I don't get why they were trying to sell me a machine when I merely wanted mine fixed. I have had two visits but they were both FIVE STARS. I was in a hurry to replace an old, tried and true vacuum cleaner. We have four in-home furry beasts not to mention horses... so dust and fur is a constant battle... so I drank their Miele Kool-aid and have been more than satisfied, and intoxicated. They were friendly, knowledgeable and actually saved me money by talking me out of a model I didn't need. The massive space station-like arm had an issue and they replaced it on the spot. The new owners might be very knowledgeable about sewing machines but they are NOT Miele vacuum experts. We took our Miele vacuum there as we had bought it from the previous owners which were very knowledgeable about Miele vacuums. All we wanted was maintenance as we had our vac for over 6 years. When they called after 2 weeks to pick up our vacuum we made the trip to Boulder. When we tried the vacuum in the store it sounded like a heavy duty machine was turned on. Incredible noisy and hurtful to the ears. Let me remind you the vacuum was working fine when we dropped it off and now it was NOT working at all. They told us they had to send it back to the repair facility as they do NOT do any service work in their shop. We had to call several times asking about status and finally after another 3 weeks they called that we could pick it up. This time the vacuum was working OK. They then tried to charge me more than the original estimate was. When I told them that's not what I was quoted he looked around and apologized for overcharging with some excuse (they added the wrong parts price ???) and only charged what was quoted. Needless to say, we were NOT happy with their service. Not once didn't anyone apologize for the long wait or our extra trips and time!!!! Bad customer service and bad service all around! read more

I strongly recommend that you do not patronize this merchant, both for their poor customer service and the store's inability to permanently repair a very expensive vacuum cleaner purchased there. Four years ago, we purchased a Miele vacuum. We have a house with a living room, dining room and four bedrooms. The vacuum is used approximately every two weeks. In spite of minimal use, have had repeated problems with the vacuum and getting it repaired by Blakeman Vacuum and Sewing. Since we purchased the vacuum, we have had to bring it into the store three times for repairs of the same problem. Each time, the store has charged over $80 to look at it and make what should have been effective repairs. We did not have to pay any extra for the part or repair this second time other than the original $80 something dollars. In September, I brought the vacuum in for the third time and described the problem, the same one we had the previous two times. The clerk said that the store charges over $80 to look at machines. When I explained that this was the third time we had brought it in for the same problem, the clerk said he would give me a discount of $75, which I paid. I was stunned when I later heard from the store, that I would need to pay an additional $103 dollars above the $75 to replace parts plus an additional $18 for a new filter. I explained again that this was the third time we had brought in the vacuum for the same problem and with the proposed additional charges I would have paid close to half of the original price of the machine. I believe it should have been repaired correctly without any additional charge. The staff said they would not do it, but said I could apply the $75 I had already paid to another machine if I preferred that option. As a business person myself, I cannot imagine asking for an additional fee if one of my customers brought in a high quality product from my business for repairs a third time, and had already paid approximately $250 for needed repairs that had not fixed the problem. My interest would have been to have a satisfied customer who would speak well of my business and staff, and doing the repair that should have been done right in the first place. This would have been a small price to pay for the benefit of my business. Needless to say, I am not a satisfied customer. I did not get the vacuum repaired. I wish the store and its staff had taken the high road and made the situation right, rather that proposing to charge me an additional fee for the repair. I hope in the future to find a store that has better customer service and technical assistance. read more

These guys are great. I started coming to them at the end of my sewing machine's lifespan and although they couldn't save a machine designed to fail after a few years, they were incredible every step of the way. When my machine broke again a few weeks after they fixed it (my fault I think) and the repairs were free. And when it finally catastrophically failed after that, they refunded all of the repairs minus the diagnostic. And they're so nice. They were ready to throw me a sewing machine funeral. I should have known they were going to be a problem when they convinced the lady in line in front of me to pay them over $200 to repair an old sewing machine that likely was not worth it. But I reasoned that they just were not good at sewing machine repair and I had a vacuum to be repaired. They took my deposit and called me with a very detailed quote of $120 to repair. I asked more than once if that was the total cost as it seemed so low and was reassured that it was. But it was not. It was the cost IN ADDITION to what I had already paid as my deposit ($105). I think this was extremely misleading and I was shocked. On top of that the clerk (owner?) was very rude and snarky. Been going to this location for 20+ years. But never ever again. I have an old german singer sewing machine. Always worked very well until I took it to this shop to fix a minor problem of thread tension. I got the machine back a first time and it was not working correctly - the motor was so slow that I had to manually turn the wheel to have it going. I give it back to repair and all I get was that there was nothing they could. The machine also came back with the piece broken and the bobbin case is missing (as it's on hold model I cannot find one anymore). And of course I paid for what they call a repair! read more

I visited SewVac prior owners for years- and they were curious, consistent, phenomenal customer service and great work- they get 10 stars! The new management - I have attempted 3 times and have a horrible experience each time. Each time I have visited my intention is to have my vacuum serviced. The response I get has been that I have been hit on. I would prefer they spend more energy on servicing my vacuum then trying to service me. I left my vacuum to be repaired - was told it would take 5 days, on day 6 I called for an update- they had not even looked at it yet and then called me and told me the original quote in the estimate was given to me wrong and would I like to pay for the full price even though it was their fault. I picked my vacuum up when they told me it was completed and still was not repaired ! I am now using Longmont Vacuum- and they are GREAT! read more

I bought a vacuum from the store in Boulder. I had brought my Kirby in for maintenance like service although it was working fine and had been working fine for 20+ years. They somehow talked me into buying a vacuum. They Took my old one in trade but didn't give me anything for it and they told me they'd throw in 2 years of service for free on it. Lo and behold I bring it in because it keeps Turing off and they say they're a new store and they won't honor the agreement and it's not in the computer that way and yada yada. It ends up costing me 120+ Dollars. I explained I'm newly widowed, I'm walking with a cane and they could care less. I Truly haven't felt so screwed over before by a local business. This place has the best customer service! they were helpful, friendly, and had the job completed before the estimated completion date. My Bernina is now running perfectly. While I was there I met a sewing instructor who demonstrated their embroidery machines, so cool! A few weeks later, I wanted to add a personalized embroidered name on my son's graduation tie and I couldn't find anyone in Boulder who would do a small embroidery job. I remembered Sew More Than Vacuums and thought I would stop by to see if they could offer a suggestion or help. They went above and beyond by taking the time to embroider my son's tie and I am extremely grateful! This place is a gem. read more

This is long over due but it's definitely worth it. I bought a used sewing machine from this store when they were still Blakeman's. I also bought an expensive walking foot but didn't try it out until the Pandemic lockdown was in effect. I then realized that it was the wrong size and, quite discouraged, searched all over the internet to find one that would work with my older sewing machine. I was unable to track one down. I decided to give Blakemans a call and the manager there was absolutely wonderful! He said he would start a search for me and would honor the exchange for the new one, despite having switched owners. I was totally amazed at how understanding he was and the effort he put in to track one down. I had a great experience here buying a sewing machine. I went in and told the sales clerk I was looking for a simple machine as a starting crafter and he led me to just the one I was looking for. They have a great deal where if you bring in an old machine as trade in you get half off a new machine. I am so glad I went here instead of getting one at a box store, because as the clerk explained, a cheap machine is really only good for about 12 uses before it breaks and they are not repairable. However, the machine I got has a 25 year warranty and I can bring it in anytime to get it repaired. I feel very satisfied that I have made a solid investment. On March 15, 2013, I purchased a Royal Carpet Extractor (carpet cleaner) from Sew-Vac of Boulder (3175 28th Street, Boulder, CO). It was model MRY7910. The serial number on the original machine was MRY7910101200008193. I have a receipt for this purchase. Sometime in 2014, it began to leak when I used it. I brought it into the shop for diagnosis and repairs on 11/29/14 (I also have a service ticket for this date), at which time it was confirmed that the machine was still under warranty. I'm not sure who I spoke with at the shop, but the result of the conversation was the conclusion that, although the machine was under warranty, the gentleman at the shop did not think they would be able to receive the replacement part to repair the machine prior to my family moving out of state in December 2014. Because Sew-Vac had already filed a claim with Royal, the Sew-Vac representative suggested I take the machine in to a certified Royal repair shop in Massachusetts when we arrived, at which time Royal could fulfill the warrantied repairs. Due to health problems in my family (I had a cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgeries), I delayed getting to the repair shop with the machine. I finally took it in to Essex Vacuum in Salem, Massachusetts in August, 2015. The owner of the shop said he had a large backlog of machines and would not get to my repairs for a long time, but because he was the only certified repair shop I'd found, I left it with him anyway. Finally, in May, 2016, he informed me that he had, at last, called Royal. Royal informed him that the machine was no longer under warranty. This led to me calling Royal directly. What they told me was that they had fulfilled the warranty in April, 2015 when they sent a replacement carpet extractor to Sew-Vac, a machine that was intended to replace my broken carpet extractor. Due to this fact, they stated they had no further obligation under the warranty. Royal said that this was Warrranty Claim #235504. They told me that the replacement carpet extractor was Model FR50152. Royal sent the machine via FedEx Tracking # 044217131687565, and it was signed for by B. Baldwin (this information is available via the FedEx tracking number on the FedEx site). It was delivered to Sew-Vac on 4/22/15. I requested this information in writing from Royal; however, because the confirming documents are specific to the relationship between Royal and Sew-Vac, they required communication from an attorney to release them. Since speaking with Royal, I have been in communication with the store that is now Blakeman Vacuum, located at the same address. Chris Blakeman purchased the store in April 2016 from Sew-Vac, and he states he has no knowledge of the whereabouts of the Royal carpet extractor. He confirmed that he has my contact information (my husband's cell phone number) in the computer records he received from Sew-Vac, which indicates to me that Sew-Vac had the means to communicate with me/my family when they received the replacement carpet extractor in April, 2015. The cost of the broken machine was $299.00 plus tax, for a total of $323.82. The replacement machine retails for $349.00 (based on an internet search). I would like either a machine of equal value or the money in compensation to replace the machine that Royal sent to fulfill the warranty. In my last conversation with Chris (8/9/16), he informed me that if I were him, I would "just let it go. My time is worth more than a $300 carpet extractor." Yes, I'm going to have my attorney send a letter, and obviously, this isn't worth a bunch of attorney's fees. But the fact that a $349 carpet extractor disappeared in that shop and was meant for me and my family is just wrong. We still own property in Boulder (for which we now need to purchase another carpet extractor!), and we won't be doing business with Sew-Vac again. read more

I am in the market for a new sewing machine, I also realize these are currently the hot ticket item during Covid. My experience with Blakeman goes as follows: I called a few days ago and asked the sales person on the other end whether they have a particular model in the store (it said availability online). He put me on hold to check, I waited patiently for 10 minutes and then gave up waiting. Called half an hour later, left a clear message on the answering machine and asked to be called back. Didn't happen. Today, I walked into the Boulder store in person. Two young men standing around and after finishing his phone call, one walked over to ask what I was looking for. It was pretty clear from the get go, that this clerk had not much idea about any of the sewing machines. I asked him to check on the availability of a particular model, again no success. He kept disappearing in the back office and left me standing there. The other sales clerk had only been working in the store for 2 days and "loves playing around with the machines". The highlight was when I was offered to try an expensive Bernina. After he managed to connect the foot pedal, he gave me a piece of cloth to "give it a go" and walked away. Within 2 seconds the machine stopped working and produced an error message. I had to grab his attention and asked him to explain what was going wrong. When he had no clue how to fix this and shrugged his shoulders, I said thank you for your help and walked out. Mind you, I was the only customer in the store. I will take my business definitely somewhere else. read more

Last week I went to Blakeman Vacuum and Sewing to purchase a Miele vac. When I told them I was interested in seeing one, I was instead told that they think another particular brand would be better and began to tell me all the excellent features of it, that I would find it just as good as a Miele, or even better in some ways. I bought it just to find out that when using it on the carpet, many carpet fibers were wound around the roller brushes when the adjustment was set as recommended by the manufacturer, and also when using all other adjustments. Only when I returned it was I told that all sales are final. It was written in the fine print on the bottom of the receipt. They did exchange it for the Miele I wanted in the first place, but it would have been much easier to have dealt with a company that puts the customer first. I was told that they have recently changed hands. read more

Fortunately, the staff and service here "blow" the competition away and "bagged" another satisfied customer ;-) I only needed a new belt and was out in 10 minutes. The associate installed the belt, tested it, and gave the vacuum a much-needed cleaning for only $9! I can't speak for the sewing side of the business or the sales, but my repair experience was friendly, efficient and inexpensive. read more

Boulder's Sew Vac is a gem of a store! Jan, Ross and Karen were so attentive, professional and friendly, I didn't feel at all weird about going in 10 times while shopping for a new machine. I rented a Janome for 2 weeks, they tuned up my old Brother and I ended up with a Baby Lock Ellure Plus after hours of patient demos and Q&A's. They have a huge selection of amazing sewing machines and vacuums and are not too busy to help with countless questions. I enjoyed every visit! I owned a quilting shop for 17 years. I am so impressed with the service from this business. They have gone out of their way to give me extra great service And even fixed my machine overnight when I was in a real pinch. One time they offered to let me come sew on their machines if I could not wait for the machine to be repaired. I will not take my machine anywhere else! As far as I'm concerned, this is the only place to buy one also. If you have a Pfaff, there are very few places you can trust to work on your machine and the manager is a certified professional Pfaff repairman. They are courteous, professional and friendly. Of course, they can work on any brand. I would give them 10 stars if the rating was available! It's nice to know there are still service and sales professionals out there who treat people the way they do. read more

This was once a great shop and is now perhaps the worst small business I've ever encountered. I'd say their negligence borders on plain criminal. I'd gone to previous shop for years and happily. I took vaccum to get repaired. Took it home to find out that indeed I had left the head with them because I really wasn't sure which part was bad. But, they assured me that I must have had it stolen as it sat next to the other items I typically store it with. They felt great about selling me one at 5% off, but swore I must have lost it elsewhere. Of course, when I get home it doesn't work and I take it back. TWO WEEKS LATER, I go in to ask why they haven't called and their "good technician" was going to look at it next week. Exasperated, I picked up my new $300 vacuum head and vacuum allegedly repaired for $300 and figure I've saved money and time by throwing my Meile away. I used those things for thirty years. I can't spend that kind of money on "quality" and have service be so awful. Get me a hoover. Seriously, stay away. Drive to Denver, whatever. Once they were great, as of August, 2020, don't turn your back on them. read more

Do not use this business. On a recent visit for service, I was victim of an upsell for a higher level of maintenance I take responsibility for not pinning them down on the details. Then I get a call for more charges to do an even higher level of service, which I declined. They ordered a part which I paid for. It was $90 compared to $10-15 on Amazon. The young saleslady was incredibly knowledgeable and also incredibly pushy. We came to give up my wife's grandmother's sewing machine (broken, but with huge sentimental value -- tears were shed) and to replace it with something affordable and functional. The saleslady ignored my wife's tears and aggressively pushed her to buy a machine WAY out of our price range. We ended up purchasing the model just under, but still outside of our price range almost entirely because we were so incredibly uncomfortable and felt pushed and rushed. In the end, we got a great machine... but, the experience left us feeling unsettled and taken advantage of. read more
