Oh my gosh tonight I was using my Baby Lock Destiny it seized up and I panicked I called Blakeman Vacuum and Sewing a tech named John was so amazing he helped to get my machine up and going again. I live 4 hours away from Boulder and I have a business that I run out of my home. He went way above and beyond to help me fix my machine. I can't thank him enough. WOW! Really unbelievable how bad my experience was with Blakeman Vacuum and Sewing, and the bad experience seems to just keep on going! I wrote an initial review of my experience with getting my Miele U1 upright serviced, and told of the classic 'bait and switch' routine that was pulled on me. But in the rush of that event, I had neglected to pursue a refund of a service deposit, or at least a credit towards the new vacuum. And, of course, was given a wonderful reminder of the confusion when I opened my credit card statement, and saw the $30 service charge, in addition to the full price of the vacuum ($544.21). I called to get a refund of the $30, but of course, no joy in that effort... NEVER, EVER do business with these rip off artists!!!!! read more

We have had a terrible experience. We were overcharged, but the employees only brushed if off, almost $170 for a routine service . They did a lot of cross-marketing and convinced my wife to buy 3 years of vacuum cleaner bags for 2 vacuums we own. Then they were out of one type of bags and said it was on order and we could pick it up later. We have been in twice over 3 weeks and they don't have them. It is an inconvenience to go into Boulder so my wife asked for then just give a credit in our card. They refused to do that. Multiple emploees with different answers to questions. I took my Riccar vacuum in to be serviced back in October after finding this stores information on the Riccar website. I paid my $75 deposit for the new handle and hose and likely to unclog something stuck where I couldn't get to it. Weeks passed and my husband and I tried calling the store a few times to check on the progress. Always, the store was closed or no answer. Our days start at 7am and end around 6 or 7pm, so trying to connect with their short business hours isn't easy. On December 24 I receive an email letting me know they had my vacuum ready and had been ready for some time. This email stated they had sent an email back in November. I called the store right away upon receiving this email and was told they had tried several times to call, but my number was disconnected. As my number is my business line, and has never been disconnected, I knew there was something else going on. Turned out, they had my number wrong. I also searched my email, including spam, and found nothing from them. My husband went to pick up my vacuum and the sales person brought out the wrong vacuum, insisting it was mine. He then told her that our vacuum is blue. She went back and brought out the correct one. When my husband brought it back to me, I couldn't wait to try it out, but the hose wasn't fitting correctly, it just flopped all over. Then, it fell off! The handle is incorrect and wont stay on the vacuum. You have to hold the hose attachment while you push the vacuum! Clearly upset that my thousand dollar vacuum was returned to me like this, I looked for help. I sent an email to the person who emailed me on the 24th. I went to the company website and sent an email. I went to their Facebook page and found communications between a reviewer and someone who said he was the owner. I sent a message to Christopher blakeman and a friend request to ensure he saw my message. I was impressed when he answered my initial message, and told him my issue. From that, I received NO response and he blocked me! I double checked that indeed, this was the person associated with Blakeman. Why would the business owner block a customer and in that, refuse to help?? Then I put in an email to Riccar themselves. I am not going back to Blakeman after this unacceptable treatment and service. I paid $138+ for this "repar". I will see what the Riccar company has to say about this. I bought my machine from this company 6 years ago. My machine has caused me nothing but problems since. I have brought it in several times, paid over $100 for service, only to be told that there is nothing wrong with it. The machine even messed up when I tried it out with one of their staff members and I was still told to go home and work on it. They will not stand by their machines and now I have to spend more money to get it fixed elsewhere! read more

I have had two experiences with Blakeman. I bought a sewing machine, was given a training class and can now use it without any help. That experience was very positive. However, I took my vacuum cleaner in to get repaired and now feel that that part of their operation is a joke. All it needed as a new hose, which I had ordered myself and brought with me. Since that's all it needed, how complicated could it be? After two weeks had gone by with no word from them, I called to find out if it was ready. The person I talked to said she would "call over there" to see what was happening. Really? I thought they did it there. Anyway it was ready two days later, which means they had it for two weeks and two days. The best part is yet to come. When I picked it up, there was a big rubber band around it holding the paperwork for the repair. I didn't pay much attention to the rubber band, which remained on the vacuum cleaner until I got home. Upon closer inspection after I got home, I realized that for some reason they had opened the door to the compartment that holds they vacuum cleaner bag. AND THEN THEY COULDN'T GET IT CLOSED! So they held it in place with a rubber band. They fix vacuum cleaners and they couldn't figure out how to close the door to the compartment? Granted it takes a hard blow with a closed fist. But that's not exactly rocket science. The best part is no one said anything to me about it. So my experience was, "Here's your vacuum cleaner that took two weeks and two days for us to install a new hose in, and oh by the way, that door doesn't seem to close and we aren't going to mention it to you even though it was closed when you brought it in. We hope YOU know how to figure it out." Never again. read more

I had hopes of taking my sewing machine in for a repair here, within 3 minutes of entering the store, the salesman said he would NOT fix my machine until I got a new needle plate and bobbin case which my needle had occasionally dinged over the years. I knew this wasn't the reason my machine was broken, but I could see the costs adding up to have it repaired here. I mentioned that maybe I should just get a new machine since the repair was going to be expensive and he was more than happy to start on the sales part of his job, selling me a Baby Lock. I took my machine elsewhere, it has been repaired and runs like new AND I didn't have to replace the needle plate & bobbin case. read more

This seemed like a good business years ago when I brought my vacuum in for service...but my recent experience has been poor communication by every employee but Steve and now as I sit here with a non functioning vacuum on a Tuesday evening with a half vacuumed house, the actual service sucks too. Avoid this place! I have been a customer at this physical location for 12 years, and recently went back for a simple vacuum service. I think they've had at least two name changes, so that should have been my clue that all is not well. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to "drop off" my vacuum cleaner. Clerks were taking their time and at least one other customer was having a big problem. That should have been my second clue. Nevertheless I was given a price, paid in full, and left. After 2 weeks had passed I called to see if it was ready. The person answering was rude and told me not to check in until I received a call from them. Finally they called me and left a message asking for me to call back. I did. They never returned the call. I finally just went over there and yes, it was ready. Suddenly I owed a "balance" for charges they never called me about. The price was now more than double, and they said I must have approved this by phone. Nope. 45 minutes later I finally had my vacuum cleaner back after paying more. At the very end they realized that they'd not actually installed the HEPA filter that they charged me for and that I requested at dropoff. I'm left wondering if they actually serviced the vacuum, and quite honestly, if this is even my vacuum! Wow. Going elsewhere. read more

I have a older Bernina sewing machine that needed attention. The gentleman at Blakeman was kind and considerate in repairing this machine. He was extremely knowledgable of this particular model (seemed to have extensive experience with the Bernina line). It was repaired quickly and minimal cost. I will be returning for future needs of sewing questions and did look at the vacuums as well. Will be back to this business soon read more

Brought in a Pfaff for repair. They called and said it was not repairable and started the sales pitch on a new machine. When I said no thank you and I would like to come in a pick up my old machine...they said wait a second, I think my service guy might have fixed your machine. I am sure they wanted to sell my Pfaff machine as a quality used machine...and get me for the cost of a new one. Will NEVER be back in this store. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about this business. Every employee is so friendly and knowledgable. I was just in today to see about getting a tune up for my ancient sewing machine. I didn't end up getting the tune up today, but the gentleman assisting me did not change his helpful attitude when I said I was not going to spend the money at that time. The time before this, a woman helped me with a threading issue. She sat down with me and provided friendly and casual service and conversation. I leave this place feeling like I'm glad I spent a few minutes of my day interacting with these folks. You'll have my business always! read more

They are very courteous and friendly, and very knowledgeable about every kind of sewing machine on the market. They carry just about every kind of sewing machine. I bought a Riccar vacuum cleaner here three years ago. Received good service and no high pressure sales tactics. Took it in a few months ago for an issue I was having. I fully expected to be made to get a full service and was pleasantly surprised when he said I just needed a new belt, which he put in right then and there and it was only $5. So, you're probably wondering why I give this place only one star? I took it back two weeks ago because I was having the same problem, brush wasn't dropping down. Totally different experience this time. I was told I had to get a full service and leave it. The guy opened it up and we could see the belt had broken, but he said I had to get the full service and the belt wasn't included in the price. Then he proceeded to tell me I really should get a new, better vacuum. I told him that wasn't going to happen. Riccar is not a cheap vacuum, and I was appalled to bring it where I'd bought it and when all it needed, and we could both see it, was a new belt, yet he was telling me I should buy an entirely new, more expensive machine. I should have just taken it and walked out. They said it would be 5-10 days. I called after about 8 days and they said, it would be 10 days. Today it was two weeks. I called and they told me they could get to it today, and have it by Saturday, so, two more days, for a total of 16 days. I told them forget it, that I was coming to get it and I'd take it somewhere else. Which I did and the somewhere else put in a new belt and said it didn't need to be serviced at this time. I understand that Blakeman are new owners, and it's obviously NOT an improvement. I won't be back. I would say it was poor service from start to finish, except they never finished. read more

I took my sewing machine to Blakeman's for a tune-up and it was the worst customer service experience ever. The first tune-up was completed on time, but the problem re-occurred almost immediately after getting it home. I brought it back and the salesperson assured me that it would be ready within two weeks. It took much longer and it felt like I was twisting their arm to get a status. They never answer their phone and when I drive over ask them personally if they can give me a status I got blank looks. Sometimes the store was just shut and locked with no one there. I finally persuaded someone to work on it and drove to Loveland to retrieve it from Boulder. The problem recurred and I was trying to be patient and so I drove it back up there hoping to have the technician work on it right away - at least that is what I was led to believe would happen. This time I left it again for weeks. Same story. I left countless messages. I drove by the store and was unable to get a status. Finally, I had to have a police officer go to the store in Loveland because I heard it was going out of business and I was concerned. They told the officer they would repair it and get it back to me in Boulder that same day. I did get my sewing machine back that same day - but not repaired. I am out $200 and wasted months of precious time. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this business nor the owners. Beware! read more

I had called in giving my vacuum cleaner make, model, and serial number explained the name of the part that I needed and what one web site listed as the part number-but told them to check and make sure it is the serial number Hoover lists for the part. They called back indicating they knew the part and ordered it and I paid over the phone. I go in to pick up when they called me, waited 20 minutes while the one person working helped just one person shopping who was indecisive while 3 customers waited and waited (about 20 minutes of us just standing there inline). I finally get a turn to pick up the ordered part and they had ordered the wrong part. Initially, they said no refunds on special orders but finally refunded ($9). They admitted that the person who ordered the part did not work on vacuums but on sewing machines. The current clerk said the part was no longer available. So I had to be creative and ask if they could find a similar hose (all I needed was a replacement vacuum tube/hose). They took my number and said they would check later... I went down the street to the dedicated vacuum repair place, and the other place will pull a hosed off another vacuum in storage for me in 24 hours. Creative solution--looking forward to working with the other vacuum company. read more

Beware! This place charges a $30 deposit fee just to LEAVE your vacuum there to await for routine maintenance. They give you about a three week turn around time. If you want it faster they charge a $50 "rush" fee. If you decide to just pick up your vacuum and go elsewhere, they don't refund the $30 "deposit" fee. They obviously don't care about return business. I guess they charge for vacuum storage. In fact, their back room is stacked full of vacuums awaiting service--but nary a repairman in sight--just the sewing machine ladies out front. I will get all my bags and supplies and future vacuums from Amazon from now on. This place might just be the biggest rip-off in Boulder. I'm going to Longmont for service. read more

I have a Dyson and it had been making funny sounds but still vacuuming up the cat and dog hair. Sew Vac did a fabulous job getting my mom's sewing machine up and running again, everyone was very helpful and friendly, so I thought I would give them a try. Wow am I glad I did. The ten year old vacuum needed new roller, belt and filter and now it runs like it did when it was new. They even cleaned it up and did some adjustments and it runs like a dream and without funny sounds. Even the suction is back to its original power. I cannot thank these guys enough and the turnaround time was under a week. This combined with prompt and friendly service. I could not ask for a better experience! Thanks folks! read more

Waited 5 & 1/2 weeks for repair on my portable Singer sewing machine. Took my machine to Blakeman's in Boulder, on 1/20/2020 & paid $40 up front. After the first two weeks, I had to call Blakeman's to get a status update. Was told the repair was trickier than expected & had a part on order. Was told I would be called when it was ready for pick up. Patiently waited another 3+ weeks for word about my repair request. Dropped by on 2/26/2020, was told it would probably be in the next day on 2/27/2020, & someone would definitely call right away to let me know it was ready. After not hearing from Blakeman's on 2/27, I called today, 2/28, and was told yes, it was ready & would cost me an additional $109. For my sewing needs, an inexpensive, heavy duty portable machine is generally quite sufficient; however, I could have bought a brand new portable machine for what I was charged in repairs, or invested that $149 in upgrading to a fancier, more expensive model, but was not given the option to make that decision for myself. When I spoke to Chris, a manager, voicing my disappointment in the lack of communication from Blakeman's, I didn't even get a "sorry for the inconvenience." Needless to say, I won't be doing business with Blakeman's in the future, nor will I recommend this store to anyone else. read more

For over 20 years, I've purchased bags and vacuums from SewVac. Prior to Blakeman vacuum becoming the new owners, I bought a bulk quantity of bags and a hepa filter($50). Upon changing out my filter I realized that I had the wrong size. I went in to exchange the filter to the "new" store. And was told that without a receipt I could not exchange the filter. This is no way to build customer service or loyalty. I will look for my vacuum/sewing needs elsewhere. read more

Extraordinary customer service. I had "lost" a piece for my vacuum and was thinking that the part would have to be ordered. It was a quick fix, as they found the part in their shop and didn't charge me anything for it. I would've gladly paid, just for their customer service. Here is the thing....I am the kind of gal that knows what she wants, needs, etc. and when I ask for my vac to be repaired...serviced whatever, I really do not want a sales pitch at every turn. We have had a Dyson for ten years that had never needed service until a week ago...I think that is pretty and as this is a 4-500 dollar vac we wanted to repair it, so when I bring it in, they try to sell me a new different vac with bags which I refuse to work with, I said "no just fix it", then they call with the first quote which was $120 to fix it and again try to sell us another vac, and then they call back a few days later with a new problem saying it will now be 150 and then another problem which that part would be another 60 dollars....this part being the first thing they should have noticed when giving the first quote but now magically this part needs to be replaced....the thing is I am pretty sure they jacked up that piece themselves in yet another attempt to sell us a vac, so now the vac...our beloved Dyson is home and it is now rolling like it used to...hence this new found jacked part that we had no problems with when we sent it in to begin with.....also the guy talked to me like I was a moron for not wanting to buy one of his vacs that require bags....bags that cost about 20 dollars for four of them mind you and as we live in the mountains with children and dogs, I would be spending about 80 bucks a month of bags. So if you just want your vac repaired without being haggled to buy a new one and if you dont want to be ripped of on your repair and have new problems that you did not already have with your vac before hand....I would not recommend Sew-Vac of Boulder read more

This review is specifically for how happy I am with the new manager at Blakeman, Bill. We bought a Janome machine for my daughter for Christmas. It has had problems since she got it. Since it is under warranty, I had taken it to Blakeman twice to have issues fixed, and both times problems have continued. Frustrated, I took it back a third time. Since I worked with different people each time, I had to start from the beginning in explaining all of the issues we were having with the machine, that it was purchased at a different store that has a contract with Blakeman, that it was under warranty, etc. The third time I started getting the same blank stares I had received my first two trips in, but thankfully Bill, the manager, stepped in. Once he listened to what I was saying and understood the magnitude of the problems we were having he made a list of the issues, experimented with the machine himself so he could make detailed notes, and sent my machine off it be repaired. It took three weeks, but the machine is FINALLY working perfectly! Fortunately, Bill was there when I picked the machine up because the regional manager tried to charge me $200 for the repair (to our brand new machine that had never worked and was under warranty). Without Bill, this would likely be a very different review! read more

I have been using Sew-Vac for almost 20 years and they are a great local business. They have stood behind everything I have purchased offering service, upgrades and tutorials...always with a smile. Probably should use the vacuum more just to buy more bags. Probably should use the sewing machine more, too...so I'd remember how to thread the darn thing but if I forget, or need something for either, they always take care of me. I purchased a Miele vacuum cleaner with the "Gold Star" program in 2007. I like the vacuum cleaner and the ability to get a free rental of a carpet cleaner twice a year. The reason for my bad review is because of the terrible customer service I received yesterday. It was from (I'm guessing) an owner's son - he lectured me in a threatening way about my obligation to purchase items from them and not to just rent the carpet cleaner. I will no longer refer people to them nor will I return. As a business owner, if I found out that one of my employees treated a customer like he did to me - they would be fired on the spot! read more

The staff member who was helping me then spent 20 minutes teaching me the basics of sewing and got my machine all set up to take home and get started, wanting me to have a positive experience as I begin learning. I bought 3 vacuums from Steve, Sew Vac, and always felt wonderful with their service and classes. The new owners are a real disappointment. I brought in my vac for a tune up and they told me it would be 2 weeks which is the longest time for a tune up in my history with Sew Vac. Ok I had a $20. off coupon which made the $60. price $40. After more than 2 weeks I finally called and a worker said the tech isn't in today. I asked "what is the story?" I would like to pick up my vac ready or not. I also asked why they didn't call to let me know after 2 weeks were up. No answer to that. I went in today to get it and just noticed that they never put the $20. in the cost so I paid the $60. I am calling tomorrow . We'll see what happens. I will never take my vacuum there again. They aren't helpful, kind of appreciative of their customers. My mom had the same experience with her sewing machine and vacuum. She is a long long time customer of Sew Vac. We will find another place. read more

He did a great job of talking about Miele canister vacuums in general and about the specific model we were interested in. He had to research additional information and got back to us as promised. I had an old sewing machine that I wanted to donate to a school and wanted it serviced before I donated it. I took it in and the nice young man looked it over, put on a new needle and ran it. He said it didn't need service and it was ready to give away. I was thrilled to be able to share it without an investment in service. I brought my vacuum here for a small repair. The motor and suction were working well but the height adjuster was stuck. Ross (I believe this is the owner's son) looked at it briefly and told me that a necessary part was broken, that it was no longer made, and that I should buy a new vacuum. I asked if I could buy the part on eBay but after he went to the back room for 20 seconds to "check on eBay", he said it wasn't listed there or on another site. He proceeded to try to sell me a new $699 vacuum. I took my vacuum to a different store, which was in the process of going out of business. They took it apart and determined that there were no broken parts. It just needed some adjusting and cleaning and they it fixed in 20 minutes for $20! The guy at the other store said that Sew Vac has a reputation for cheating people. read more
