I bought a Viking sewing machine here and from start to finish the customer service was on point. I traveled from Sunnyside via train and bus to come here and it was certainly worth the trip. I called the day before to see if they had a particular model in stock which they didn't but I was told I could come by to try out the same machine but in a different model. I told the person I spoke with I would come by the next day. When I did come by, Steve, the owner, was already aware I was coming by. Steve went over the machine with me and made sure I was confident about my purchase. I was told the machine would come in within a few days and when I didn't hear back from the store, Steve said he found out the machine was on back order but he could try to find it from another vendor. I was pleased to hear that Steve did in fact get it from another vendor a few days later and I was called as soon as the machine came in. The store also sells fabric, notions and offers classes and community building events. Everyone in this store is extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. I was told to come back if I ever need help with my machine or need it serviced. A good sewing machine is not cheap so I appreciate the level of customer service that Sew Right gives. I wish they were closer to my apartment but I will certainly be back. I love my new machine! read more

I came here in search of a part for my 40+ year old sewing machine. At first I was told that nothing could be done, then out of nowhere comes Susie to the rescue. She was able to fix the machine in no time! She is kind, courteous, and just a wonderful person. I have a vintage 1949 Singer Sewing machine that needed a replacement part. I had gone to a couple people in the city but they either didn't know what it was, gave me something cheap, or would take pliers and bend something, calling it fixed. Needless to say weeks later I was still in need of the part. I came across this store through reading other reviews on Yelp and was definitely happy that I did. Since I didnt want to blindly go all the way out to Bayside (from Manhattan), I actually emailed the owner Harvey about my situation. He was VERY helpful and not only provided me with a new part but explained why the old one was bad. The price was very reasonable and the store itself was buzzing with activity (perhaps a sewing class?). I ended up biking out there and while its not a trip for the weary it was certainly the fresh air that was the icing on the cake to having a successful mission. I haven't purchased a machine or fabric here, but they just repaired my 25 year old Necchi sewing machine and it's purring like a kitten! It hasn't run this smoothly since it was brand new! I was hesitant at first because I live in Yonkers and it's a long trip, but it was sooo worth it! They're so pleasant to deal with and clearly know their stuff. And the price was shockingly reasonable. When my old reliable eventually bites the dust, I'd definitely shop with them for a new machine. Great place, super nice people! I recently had my Singer sewing machine fixed & tuned up at Sewtime Sewing. My Grandmother bought this machine in the 60's. When I picked my machine up it looked brand new, parts had been replaced and the machine had been cleaned!! The people that work at Sewtime are friendly, knowledgeable & very helpful. I needed to pick up my machine and was running a lil behind .Frank went above and beyond what was required to make sure I was able to pick up my sewing machine . His patience with me that day, was truly a blessing. The overall experience in his store was a breathe of fresh air compared to the hustle and rush feeling I deal with in Manhattan. I brought my mother's old Singer from the 1970's in for repair, and within 3 days it was ready for pickup! The staff there is amazing and so patient with all of my questions. They were able to provide me with a detailed list of everything that was repaired, as well as some information about the machine I was not aware of. It now works (and looks) better than ever and I am so grateful to their repair team for doing such a superb and thorough job of making it run again, as it has a lot of sentimental value to me. The repair price was also very fair (approx $150) considering it had never been serviced or oiled, and needed a few new parts. I have known about this store for years but had never visited. I went in on Sunday to look for a new machine. Met with Susan and Maryann. was shown machines right in my price range (OMG- who knew there were so many machines to choose from) and with the features I need. I appreciated that I was not upsold or talked into features I don't need. While I haven't made my purchase yet, I will go back with some leather that I like to sew with and try the machine again. I like to support a local business rather than an online or big box type of environment so i will likely buy here. read more

I bought a Bernina from this shop earlier this year and I really love it. I can only come in on Sundays due to my schedule and they are not open Sundays during the summer, so I am looking forward to coming in this fall to learn how to use all the features. I live in Brooklyn and have shopped at another Bernina dealer in NYC but I chose to go to Sew Right instead. I really love the fact that this place is in Queens so I can drive my car, find parking and just relax. It's really a nice little shop. The people are friendly and seem genuine. Berninas are not cheap and it's very important to me to feel cared for as a customer. I'll be back in the shop more often now that they are open on Sundays! read more

This place is great! They fixed my machine in less than a week. I was shocked when they called me. It turns out the only part the machine needed costs $1.50. I had it serviced which was a reasonable price. Everyone there is kind and actually acted like they wanted your business. What a bright, cheerful welcoming place! My 13 year old daughter just took a teen sewing class there last week. In 3 days she learned how to lay out and cut a pattern. I Recently entered the world of sewing and quilting. My friend has been sewing and quilting for a very, very long time. She would only let me by a Pfaff machine and only from Sewtime. I went with her and another friend to get their machines cleaned and tuned. One friend also had a repair. They had made an appointment . The machines were worked on and completed within a couple of hours,which was expected. We had a nice lunch out and used the time. Well, long story short , my two friends each upgraded their machines as well as getting the ones brought in for repair. I, caught up in the machine excitement purchased my first machine. A Pfaff quilt ambition 2.0. The prices were fair, there is interest free financing if you qualify, so seemed like a no brainier. Just make sure you don't miss a payment cause the interest it 29.9%. That's not sew time but the bank. Jon and Susie were very patient and showed me the machine works. I have called several times with different issues due to my inexperience and have always been dealt with understanding and patience. They offer free lessons on the machine you buy , either in their store or the one in Joanne's of Westbury. I stopped in today, Friday, 10/28/2016 and purchased quarter bundles to practice stitches on my new Singer machine, The store was humming with participants of a sewing class; it appeared to be their lunch break. The atmosphere was pleasant. I roamed around looking at fabrics and a class participant suggested I try quarter bundles. The people who worked there were working with other people but soon assisted me with my purchanse. It felt fairly comfortable for my first visit. I can see myself taking a class here. read more

This place is extremely not reliable. I took my sewing machine to the store last month, when I brought it back after a week, the problem still wasn't solved, I still couldn't sew. So I played around a little bit, suddenly I realized the way I put through the thread was wrong. So I called store, and asked where exactly that they had been fixed? Which they told me, "we cleaned!! " SERIOULY, $50 for cleanning, and also I cleaned machine before I brought the machine to the store !! This is so not right !! read more

It's Sunday of Labor Day weekend in South Carolina and I discovered that the extra bobbins I had purchased at Sew Rite along with my new H Class 100Q (great little machine I bring to classes or when I travel from NY to my place in SC) didn't fit my machine. I emailed Harvey at about 4 p.m. to explain the problem and that I hadn't been able to find any reference in my manual to the correct bobbin number. Lo and behold, I check my email this evening, and there's a note from Harvey asking for my address here so he can send a package of the correct bobbins at no charge to me! This is customer service beyond compare! I never even expected to hear anything until business hours on Tuesday, and I already know that the bobbins will be mailed out then. I've been completely satisfied every time I visit Sew Rite, but never posted about it. But this level of customer service made me realize I had to find some way to post a postivie review. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! read more
