I would not trust any other place or person to work on my sewing machines. Daryl was referred by a good friend to me a couple years ago. So, I took my Singer sewing machine in along with an old Babylock Imagine Serger that was given to me. He cleaned them up and not only did he get my old Singer working again, he got it working as good as new! The Singer is almost 40 years old, but more solid than many of the new machines out there these days. So this week after my upper looper air threader stopped working and no matter what I did to try and clear it, I was unsuccessful. I thought for sure my Serger was history. And, yes I had the special wire for clearing out the air loopers. When I called Daryl this morning, he told me to bring it in. He is one of those geniuses who has a gifted talent for mechanical things and how to assess, evaluate, fix and repair them! I found a vintage sewing machine online and others would have dumped it in Goodwill and then it would have ended up in the landfill, broken and destroyed. Darrel explained how this machine is worthy of being repaired - and that is admirable. He has a full retail store with new appliances and does full service repair and he also has used and vintage machines fully repaired to sell at a good price too. I took my cherished 35 yr old Bernina 910 sewing machine into a local Sewing & Vacuum retail/repair location and was told it wasn't repairable; without opening it up, they suspected that the transformer was blown and replacement parts are not available. I've lived in Vallejo over 20 years and Darrell has fixed numerous items. I had an old vacuum cleaner and he kept that running for many years, much longer than it deserved to live. I had a hugh Golden Retriever who's hair was beyond belief. Needless to say I needed that vacuum. In addition he fixed my Kenmore sewing machine a few times after I messed it up. The last time the needle got stuck in the bobbin. I couldn't get it out for the life of me. I sewed with it over the weekend and it worked great. TG he's around and knows how to fix these machines. Just left this place and the man was very nice! Thought I only needs belts, well after I looked at what my brushed on the roller bar should look like bought new bar. Hey even gave me a free bag, very nice of him, he wanted me to get my house clean. Very Thankful he mention the roller brush! I just finished the vacuuming the one rug, OMG was way easier, and looked so much better than befor the belt broke. Them new brushes and new bag and belt almost made it fun to vacuum. Unfortunately there is no way to rate this place with a NO star. I brought my machine las Friday March 8 in the afternoon. He told me to call him next day, so I did. Then he told me that was so busy with deadlines. That he will call me. I called on Monday and he said again that he will call me. I left him alone and today a week later he asked me how much I want to spend. That the board needs replacement and cost $178. I told him that I will pick up my machine. When I picked up the cord was missing and told me that he wrote down that there were no cord. Then I was packing my machine I saw a crack on the case. He said it was in that condition. Now I got home I just noticed that HE TRIED TO FIX the crack with gray glue. See picture. Under any circumstances bring your machine to this place. He is so unorganized and the place is mess. I worked with Darryl because our local sewing shop contracts with him and had a great experience. I'm a novice and when I got my sewing machine back from a tune up I was having some new problems and felt frustrated. I called Darryl, and he spent over 15 minutes on the phone with me, walking me through the common mistakes that people make that produce the outcomes I was getting, and guess what? all my issues were user error! The gentleman owner quoted me $259.95 for the part that I was able to get for $115.00 in Napa's Miele store! Walnut Creek's Miele store quoted me $119.00. When I called the Vallejo store to double check on the price Vallejo had quoted, the woman of the store said her husband, the owner, says it costs so much because it it electric! I took my so my Pfaaf sewing Machine to Darrells "Vallejo Sew and Vac"on Tennessee Street in Vallejo. I was hoping it could be repaired but I had been told earlier at the Pfaaf dealership in San Rafael that parts could not be gotten for it and I would need to buy a new machine. Well Darrell replaced the motor from a scrapped Pfaaf he had on hand and tuned up my entire machine and it runs like it's brand new! I have had my Brother entry-level electronic sewing machine repaired here. It was a great service and repair. I had to fly out of town while the machine was in the shop, and the owner was excellent at communicating to me what was wrong with the machine and what the repair would be. At one point I asked if it would be worth it to move up to a more expensive heavy-duty machine rather than repair this one, and he talked me through all my options. Machine was repaired and serviced quickly and for not that much money. I'll definitely be taking my machine back for service, and when I do get a sturdier model, I'll be buying from this shop. I highly recommend Vallejo Sew & Vac. It's a one-person operated business, and now a novelty to find a handy person, let alone someone who can fix sewing machines. I brought in my Grandma's 1960s Singer sewing machine for a tune up, and then again after I broke the plate. He tuned it up the first time, and fixed the plate the second. Can't believe he was able to locate parts for a tool/machine that is at least 60 yo, but he did and in good time. Heard he once had a garage and storage space filled with old machines for parts. I called Darryl at Sew & Vac and dropped off my 30 year old machine in the afternoon. I liked the way he explained how he trouble shoots. Yeah, the shop is crazy looking, but I needed him to check out my Viking's foot pedal as it stopped working and I was in the middle of a project. Sure enough he had an identical Viking foot pedal on hand to test against my machine. He found it without searching for it, so I guess in all that clutter he has a system. He gave me the machine's removable arm and even my thread back saying, "If it isn't part of the problem, I don't keep it in the shop." I inherited a sewing machine that was hardly ever used, but it had sat for years in storage. I went to use it and while it could limp along, many things weren't working. I took it to Sewing & Vacuum Center and could not be happier. Daryl fully explained what was wrong with the machine and what needed to be done. Because the machine had sat for so long, the oil in the machine had turned to lacquer. He cleaned and repaired the machine, charged a reasonable price and had it done promptly (I was in the middle of a project and needed it quickly). Came from Sacramento to visit family for a week and brought along my broken sewing machine. Decided to bring in sewing machine for repair. Thought the price was steep for the repair but I was ok with it as owner fixed my sewing machine right away. Other shops had a wait of at least a week or so and were not flexible to my time in that area, I couldn't wait that long. The owner of this establishment was very flexible in repairing my sewing machine by the next day. He also gave me some tips in regards to cleaning, sewing, and the type of threads best used for my type of machine. The place is a mess but so are the other repair shops. I took my carpet cleaner here for repairs in November of 2019 and never saw it again. All the good reviews led me to believe this would be an easy transaction. I called before I dropped it off to make sure my problem could be addressed and he told me it was a very common problem that just needed a replacement part. Well, a few weeks later, and no call or update, I decided to follow up. He rudely told me the part was on order and I needed to wait. I ended up waiting four months, with not one call from him to update me. I continued to follow up and each time he blamed the delay on the parts manufacturer. I ended up calling a few other repair places and they all told me the part was easy to acquire. Long story short, Covid hit and I wasn't able to get my machine back from him. Multiple calls and no answer. No return calls from my messages. I'm sure my machine has been sucked into the graveyard of vacuums piled up in his showroom (should have been my first clue). I ended up having to buy a new machine and just chalked it up to life experience. I didn't bother to write a review and preferred to move on, but then a friend told me today he did the same thing to her. I realized my review might have prevented her from going through this B.S. My mom just got back from picking up her sewing machine from this store and there were many things that went wrong. First they kept saying that her part for her machine was coming in, but she had to keep calling back to find out that it didn't come in. After a month of calling she finally asked for her machine back because no one ever let her know what was happening with the delay, and she just wanted someone else to fix it. She was told the part would come in within two days. So, she picked up her machine today and sad but true she was rudely handed her sewing machine as if it were her fault that there was a delay. That isn't even the worst of it all. When she tried to leave the store with sewing machine in her hand, she tripped over all the clutter of sewing machines. She tried not to drop her machine, but to prevent from injuring herself further she let the machine drop to the floor. To add insult upon injury the owner of the store didn't even bother to see if she was okay right away. I would not recommend this store to my enemy. Rude service does not belong in any type of business, and if I could I would say ZERO stars, but I don't think Yelp would allow it! read more

This review is on behalf of the Grams; as she doesn't have a computer, she obviously can't yelp. Grams has an old sewing machine, was probably new in the 1950s, maybe 60s. Recently, the peddle-foot broke. Essentially, the plastic was dying- crumbling apart beyond repair. After calling several shops more local to her in the East Bay, Grams was frustrated with the lack of effort put forth by the salespeople she spoke with. "That company's warehouse burned down and they don't have any more." and "I can sell you a new machine for $1000." were the answers/suggestions she received. Finally someone referred her to the Sewing and Vac center, she connected with Darryl. Darryl knew exactly what part she was talking about, and said he had the part (or that he would order it? I can't remember). Long story short, Darryl got the part, mailed it to the Grams (and absorbed the cost of shipping) and it arrived the next day. Grams opened the box, and she was ecstatic to find a brand new peddle/foot for her machine. She took it right upstairs and it worked perfectly. She even called Darryl right away to say how happy she was! So pleased with the quality of customer service, the honesty as far as price and the professionalism of Darryl. I brought in my singer touch tronic 2010 for a cleaning and diagnostic. I was told I could have my machine back in 3 days. After a ton of excuses, $200 and one month later, I took home my machine. I took my couple year old Hoover widepath bagless vacuum cleaner here for a tune up as it was losing suction and it didn't seem to a belt problem (a clog somewhere?). I got my machine back, but some of the screws that hold the undercarriage to the mainframe were GONE. My suction power was back, but the body was loose from not being attached back properly. I called after hours to address the issue and the phone just rang and rang and rang, no voicemail to pick up messages - which should tell you all you need to know. If you want your vacuum (or sewing machine) returned with all the pieces back in place as originally before you brought it to this guy, don't take it here. Oh, and the cost was about as much as what I originally paid for the vacuum cleaner. No breaks and you get your merchandise back working, but with parts missing. Forget about it. read more

This is a very good, old-fashioned, privately owned sewing machine and vacuum cleaner store. He sells a number of moderate brands and higher end brands, too. We bought a Miele upright vacuum cleaner and are very happy with the purchase. While Miele vacuums always seem to be a little light on suctiion, the way they are laid out for ease of use/tools is brilliant and makes up for the suction. The attachments are the best we've used. We also got a fantastic deal on our vacuum. While other stores stuck their nose in the air Vallejo Sewing and Vac worked for our business. The store is cluttered with new items for sale and machines that have been brought in for service. We vacuumed too many oak tree leaves and had to take ours in for service. It only took him a few days, the charge was very reasonable and the machine was returned to us better then be dropped it off. read more
