We reached out to Benicia Applicance Center to look at issue with a refrigerator that had stopped working. The first day we called, they told us they'd call back and confirm when we could expect them and we never heard back. We decided to call again another day (our mistake) and the person who came out spent the majority of his visit lecturing my wife on not purchasing appliances from big box stores or made outside of the USA. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I might even agree with him, but the extent of it was very unprofessional. Our (practically new) dryer went out and Dan was able to come by the same day I called. The damaged part was a drum roller that was located at the front of the machine and necessitated that he take the entire dryer apart . . . front, back, top and the whole thing was lying in pieces on the floor. I couldn't look. He had the part, replaced it, put the dryer back together, cleaned up the mess, put everything in the room back the way it was, and the dryer works like new. These guys suck - where do we begin? Not with an emotional response, for sure....but facts are good. Fact #1: Benicians' like dealing with local companies. They are not located in Benicia, but they have locked onto fact #1, so they call themselves Benicia Appliance with a local phone number (which goes to a call center). A simple business-based lie, but no big deal, if they can resolve our issue, which was a stalled refrigerator with a broken thermostat. We corralled our coolers, borrowed a few from friends, hunkered down, and tried to keep out meat, vegetables, and milk cold, so our groceries didn't spoil and our teenage son could have milk in his cereal. After all, it's OUR problem, not theirs. Fact #2 - they quoted a diagnostic charge of $65.00 and a window between 3-6... When they didn't show up at 6:15, my wife called. She was told "The Repairman is on his way". When they didn't show up at 6:30, my wife called again.... "We're trying to get in touch with the repairman....we can reschedule you"... (in the meantime, we're buying ice to preserve our groceries, and, as two working professionals, racing to meet an appointment with our accountant). Fact #3 - I realize that our emergency doesn't constitute theirs, but they ARE in the service business... (wait for it) ... My wife calls back at 7 - they tell her that they are waiting to hear back from the contractor, and ask her if she'd like to reschedule (seriously? Your 4 hours late) ... short of options, we reschedule for the following morning. We rescheduled for 9-11 the next day, and they promised a phone call. That phone call never came. At 10:30, my (very humble) wife called back to recheck, and was told "I'm sorry, we don't have a work order on you...can we transfer you to our appointment desk?" Summary: We don't know whether a refrigerator that was fixed for under $200.00 meets their business agenda, whether this was a logistical fail on their part, or whether they are a "local Benicia company" whom locals should seek out, but these clowns failed on every level. I'm no appliance repairman, but (correct me if I'm wrong) the first step in fixing a refrigerator is....showing up....the second step (after you've blown the first one) is confirming that your $11.00/hr order-taker has actually entered the work order. This is not rocket science. We have NO WAY of knowing how well they can fix a refrigerator, because they can't even fill out a work order...which we could care less about, because we just needed our refrigerator fixed. Conclusion: Benicia Appliance is not a "local business" - they are a Call Center. They are Wallmart minus the organization. We have always been happy with Dan's repair, microwave, washer etc. After 15 years the washer finally bit the dust and Dan recommended replacing it. We checked other sellers and ended up buying our new Whirlpool from him. He got it for us quickly, installed it and took away the old machine. I recommend Dan. Me and my hubby desperately need a new washer in a budget. Called to ask for guidance and would've purchased pretty much anything, but the owner only wanted to complain. Said we wouldnt find anything good under 800 new. When I said I would do used, he said no one is getting rid of anything used that's any good. He was all naysay, and didnt offer any solution or suggestion. Dan came to my home on Tuesday after Christmas. I called him and told him my refrigerator was no longer cool and that I had been smelling burning plastic. He said he would be here in an hour. He was here as promised, worked on the refrigerator for about a 1/2 hour and said "okay it's fixed". I was like REALLY??? He said yep it was a bad starter motor. And that was it. Dan (707.280.8843) is crazy, and not in a good way. The multiple phone calls, the second guessing, the weird explaining, the call forwarding - he's super weird. He called to confirm our appointment before showing up, I told him I was here, waiting for him to come over. Then, 20 minutes later, he called again. I was on another part of the property without my phone, no matter, I thought he was on his way and didn't even look at my call log. An hour and a half later I called him to ask what was up, and he said that even though he confirmed he was on his way, when I didn't answer the phone he decided I wasn't there, and he went on to another appointment. Great - I get that, but it would have been MORE HELPFUL he'd said in advance, 'hey I'm going to call one more time, and if you are there, please answer the phone so I know you'll be there.' Something like that. How many times do you have to confirm an appointment before you stop calling and just agree to show up? He explains and talks over people and is a really strange communicator. Dan is the man. I had him over to look at my washing machine because it was extremely loud during the rinse cycle. It took him no time at all to diagnose the problem, look up the cost of the parts to repair and give me the honest but bad news. Parts are almost the cost of a new machine. Okay folks, you'll be thanking me for this review if you're looking for someone to repair a home appliance. Dan, the repair guy from Benicia Appliance Center is one of those old school repairmen who really knows his stuff. He fixed my washer about three years ago and just this week he worked on my dryer. Unlike anyone else you might call, he actually shows up within a day or so of your call and will actually show up at the appointed time. No more waiting two weeks for Sears or getting some hack on craigslist that makes matters worse. Dan clearly loves this stuff and will bend your ear with the intricate details of your machine as he makes it good as new. The best part is that he is honest and competent. If your machine can be fixed he can do it at a fair price. If he can't, he'll tell you and send you on your way. Another plus is that he actually has all the parts your appliance needs! (You won't have to wait another week or so for the part to come in.) He's also a nice guy (and my dog liked him). He actually called me the day afterward to ask how the repair was going. DO NOT, DO NOT CALL THEM!!!!! I called this "one man company" about 2 years ago to fix my refrigerator. He came out same day told me what was wrong and found the part came back the same day and repaired it for me. He did an awesome job, so I didn't hesitate to call him back when it went out against 2years later. But this time I don't know what went wrong. Once again he came out same day told me what was wrong, asked to use my laptop to find the part. Ok let me say something cause he did that last time I think he needs a smartphone or a tablet these days so he can search for parts on his own devices what if I didn't have a computer for him to use. Ok moving on now, after he ordered the part he told me it would come in, in about 2-3 days and he will be back. Well...... He never returned I called him a MONTH later no answer left a msg no call return called again for him to give me some excuse, said he will call back never did I had to continue to hound him. I went with Benicia Appliance Center to repair my dishwasher after reading the mixed reviews here. I should have listened to David K. First, the good. My call was promptly answered and I received same day service and he showed up on time. He was personable and seemed to know his 'stuff.' The machine needed a part, which he said he would order and it should be a couple of days. I gave him a week. When I hadn't heard from him, I called. I told him I was a little displeased that he'd left me with machine parts all over the kitchen and no dishwasher for a week with no phone call or update. The rest was all excuses on his part -- how busy he is, the manufacturer didn't get back to him, etc, etc. No excuse for not keeping me in the loop in my opinion. It cost me $100 to have him come take my machine apart, then leave. I decided to cut my losses at that point. I can't wait on someone who isn't interested in the client, and for all I know could leave me hanging indefinitely. read more

Although good in the past, something bad has happened to the service provided by Benicia Appliance. My tenant's refrigerator leaked water and this company (I think a one-man show) checked it out and said some tubing needed replacement. That was 3 months ago. He has had many excuses for not coming back or keeping appointments -- really busy, couldn't get help to lift the refrigerator, blaming the manufacturer, and so on. I finally got him to promise to call the tenant and finish the job, but he neither called nor showed up. I advise avoiding Benicia Appliance if you want work done in a timely manner. read more
