My family was in Destin for a wedding. We are huge seafood fans and love cooking them. We ordered 2 lbs of red shrimp (about 9.99 lb) 1/2 bushel of oysters (about $40), some snapper collar for fish stew, a HUGE white looking snapper for (5.99 lb), and snow crab pieces (5 lb) My brother also bought 7 lbs of the U8 pink shrimp (it was a really long fat shrimp) that cost about $11.99 lb. The price varies but we were so glad we came and purchased our seafood here! We had a seafood boil, grilled the fish, and made fish stew with the collar and it was worth it. We spend about $135 for all of this! Couldn't believe how much money we save & how delicious it was. Also, the woman on the counter and the female fish Mounger at the back were both very helpful and gave numerous tips! We are so happy to have came and visited. But if I was dealing with fish and wearing rubber boots all day maybe I wouldn't either. They've got a good product. There is plenty of parking. A local and the first time decided to try it was treated very poorly with very rude staff who barely acknowledged my presence even when trying to engage them. Was immediately and roughly oriented to the nearby ATM as my only option to pay for anything, beyond a check (who carries checks around still?). Sexton's Seafood is seemingly the best bet in Destin to acquire fresh seafood. I looked into actual freshness ratings which are available online and it seems everything arrives there within a short time frame after being caught. It's nice to see a local shop with a cleaning room in the back. The oysters we picked up were fantastic, as were the clams. Having all the products out in the open for inspection is a nice touch, and the staff seems friendly. We only went in once. Between this market and the competitor a few blocks down the street the pricing here is way more reasonable, although I wouldn't call it cheap for being on the Gulf. Great place for fresh seafood at a decent price! They have shrimp of different sizes, with their heads on or heads off. I bought their shrimp special for 6.95/lb -- not bad at all! They have red snapper and grouper (whole fish for 9.95/lb and fillets), as well as fresh oysters and clams. Two dozens oysters are only $13.95-- that beats the dollar oysters specials you find at the surrounding local restaurants. Conveniently, they sell all types of seasoning, fish fry, and sauces to save you a trip at the store. Excellent seafood...I do think it is a bit pricey considering it is fresh local fare and there is no transporting, etc... $50 for 1 pound of lump crab meat, 1 pound of shrimp and 1 pound of bay scallops. With that said, the scallops, shrimp and lump crab we got there was all fabulous! No "fishy" smell at all. The huge scallops we purchased smelled so clean and fresh...living in Memphis, TN, I have forgotten what real fresh seafood smells like..IT DOESN'T! :) Anyway, they also will package it up for you in a cooler for the road on ice. We bought Rock Shrimp, Shrimp, Scallops & Mussels and cooked them all up at the condo. About the Rock Shrimp......AMAZING!! The seafood here is good but I bought 4 containers of shucked oysters and they were all spoiled. I am from Atlanta and I can't return it bc I bought it to bring home assuming it would be good quality. That's $60 in the garbage. 2 ppl got sick from them. This is a review of the Sexton Seafood fish market. This was my first time at a fish market, it was small but I was impressed. (Can't wait to visit Seattle to see some wild fish tossing action!) We popped in to pick up some shrimp and fish. There were several sizes of shrimp to choose from and it tasted yummy! Lots of fresh fish, but they are pricey. How can a place charge so much for tranporting fish and shrimp about 1/2 mile from the Harbor? I asked a local about Sexton's and he summed it up correctly. While in Destin we went to 3 different seafood markets. We went 3 times here at Sexton's. We went back with our cooler and bought a 1/2 bushel of oysters. They pack them on ice for us and we'd bought 1 lb of royal red shrimp and a pound of brown shrimp. Both with heads on. They were all great. We steamed and grilled our oysters and had them for 2 days. Went back for more royal reds. All were very fresh. This place was clean, staff were ver friendly and helpful. Next time we are in Destin will definitely go back. I mean, I walked it and thought I am at a regular store because I couldn't smell anything fishy! Everything was there in ice and looking fresh. We ordered crawfish and some clams. The service was quick! I had called the day before inquiring about crawfish and at that time it was $3.99 per lb. However, the next morning when we went to buy some, the lady told us $3.50 per lb because they just got a new big shipment in the morning. This really made me think that these people are good people! Although the staff was nice and knowledgeable the quality of royal red shrimp was extremely disappointing. I've bought shrimp from Destin Ice for years, but kept hearing good things about Sexton's so I thought I'd give it a try. First, they don't take cards which is very odd since everywhere takes cards. An ATM is available to use, but whatever. I got a pound of the royals and looked at them and they looked awful. Like store bought frozen awful. I went straigt to Destin Ice and bought a pound more, just to see if all the reds looked this way and nope, they looked fresh, was almost twice as big and $1 a pound cheaper. We stayed in Panama City Beach this time but made the drive to Destin for fresh seafood. Man are we glad we did. The snapper was so fresh the eyes were so clear. It almost seem clearer than my eyes! (I may have had some redness from a full day of salt water swimming) I haven't seen fish that fresh in awhile. We also do some huge shrimps, grouper cheeks, and crab legs. All were retry fresh.
