On this trip visiting family, I was on a mission to find good blue crabs... and Gulf Coast Seafood delivered. The blue crabs were good, fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I was hoping to find. I'm already looking forward to coming back when they're even fatter and in peak season. The crawfish were excellent, and the shrimp? Absolutely delicious. What made the experience even better was the staff--warm, welcoming, and attentive. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. First of all as I walked up to the door you could smell fish and there were flys all around the door. I opened the door and the smell of fish was very strong and lots of flys were flying around. I could not even go in. My companions did go in to look around and I went back to the car. When my companions got back in the car they brought with them a strong odor of fish. I ordered steamed shrimp with Old Bay. They were luscious. I also got a key lime pie. It was good. I was the only customer when I walked in. I was immediately greeted by a worker and my order was taken. This was wear things went badly. He was rushing me to pay. I wanted to shop the freezers for other items. Other customers started coming in and I was even more rushed to pay. So, I would've spent more money but he wasn't going to do anything with my shrimp until I paid. Frustrating. The other thing was the sanitary stuff. The guy waiting on me was clean cut and wearing a hat. There was another guy with really long hair that was not pulled back or covered. There was two more guys whose clothes were dirty and they were hanging around the food scratching and talking. We won't come back. Gonna find another place to get my shrimp fix. read more

Great quality shrimp and blue crabs, but at a crazy premium price. Destin is tourist trap central, so it's no surprise that they will upcharge for seafood as well. Aside from that, shrimp and blue crabs were fresh and of high quality; we bought raw and cooked back in the rental unit, so I can't comment on their cooking process. Okay...I realize that many people are fond of this market. But I was quite overtaken with the horrendous smell when I walked in. I was hesitant to buy anything. Yeah, I know...it's a fish market, lady. What do you expect? Well, I guess I expected it to smell just a little cleaner than it did, that's all. Once I walked in, I kind of just wanted to find fish quickly and walk out. I didn't search around for key lime pies or goodies that others had found. The staff is friendly and patient and helpful, but no one was wearing masks during COVID and I found this to be concerning. I wore my mask and stuck it out at a safe distance. I wound up taking home what turned out to me the most delicious fresh piece of grouper I've ever prepared. We cooked it in a mildly Indian-spiced dish, and it was love at first bite. I did get to try another fish market in the area that had a broad selection of sides and other dishes, wine, ingredients, accompaniments and desserts. I kind of wished that Gulf Seafood offered some of the same. I realized I didn't have lemons at home for my finished recipe and had to make a separate trip to a grocery to fetch some. I would bet that other customers would grab some citrus, parsley, butter or other interesting fresh accompaniment if it were offered. This is a standard fish market with some quality offerings and a strong following, so I commend them for that. If I would have felt more comfortable about the environment of the establishment, I probably would have had a better overall experience. read more

Whoah, I was not expecting the quality presented here. There are several seafood markets around this area with most being in Destin. However, you can get the same quality as in Destin (hey, it's still the same Emerald coast!) but far cheaper pricing. Customer service was on point and the gentleman answered all our questions. Three options of shrimp were available, but he offered one being the best for the price (he didn't have to do this but it was greatly appreciated). For just $1 dollar/pound, you can choose a seasoning (most popular being Old Bay and Louisiana) and they will steam it for you in minutes. I don't think I've ever had shrimp so fresh and flavorful. They were easier to de-shell and the seasoning soaked into the shrimps perfectly. Can enjoy with cocktail sauce, but honestly good on there own or as a complement to a creamy pasta dish. There is a cute little bucket in the corner of the store that harbor the blue shell crabs. My daughter had fun playing with them and it turned into an awesome photo op, with her beaming a smile. Oh by the way, these are absolutely delicious too! Just as you walk in, they have a poster of all the indigenous sporting fish that are available from the gulf including varieties I was not familiar with. Fresh fish was very reasonably priced and the filets of fish (which will vary from day to day) were huge portions, more than twice what I would buy at home for half the price! We decided on Amberjack filets, ordered two and feasted on these for two days (first day grilled with Louisiana blackening seasoning and a local fish fry with cornmeal based crust). The fish was so meaty and robust and very fresh (could not detect a fishy smell at all). A good variety of fish was available, including several species of red snapper, tilapia, mahi mahi to just name a few. If you gravitate towards whole fish, several varieties are also available. Great for a fish curry (which we will make later). They also sell styrofoam containers to take some fresh catch to go (definitely plan on doing this), just add fresh ice! There is a freezer section for items as well. Most interesting were the "boudin", which is a sausage made from seafood. I saw an octopus, a crawfish and a shrimp sausage. These were surprising good on their own but I would add this to a gumbo later for a change of pace. I certainly can't get these at home! There were more items available in the back, including crab legs and snow crab legs, just ask the gentleman and he'd get it for you. The fresh catch and the pricing will steer me to this place every single time. A small gem in a large, emerald ocean. read more

AMAZING!!!! I wish we had gone to this place from day one! If You want to cook good quality, fresh fish, this is the only place I'll ever go! BUT even more amazing is they can steam your fish in the seasoning of your choice and they have large selection!!!! Their prices are amazing and service is wonderful! We had the idea of spending our last day at the beach eating shrimp on the beach and they made it happen by doing all the work for us! I have a severe paprika allergy so 95% of all seafood seasonings are off limits to me :( Such a bummer! My husband was tasked with finding a seasoning option and went through every option with one of their guys just in case we could find an option. BUT not only were they still willing to steam our shrimp without seasoning, they even cleaned out the steamer just for my order so I wasn't at risk for cross contamination. THIS IS PHENOMENAL CUSTOMER SERVICE! And please note they had a line of people waiting and were so busy!!! But they still made the time for my 1.5lbs of shrimp!! We visited several fish markets in the Destin/Fort Walton Area because we wanted to bring the Gulf back to Atlanta. This was the BEST fresh fish market!!! It's clean and the service was excellent!!! They were out of Amberjack, but went and filleted a fish to fill our order, less than an hour before closing! They filled our cooler with ice and were just the absolute best to deal with. This place is great, the staff is friendly , prices are great and you can even purchase some of the product steamed or broiled. Great prices on crawfish and so good. Came here to get some fresh seafood (I usually go over to destin but traffic was a nightmare) with my family. This place is VERY small and I would rather make the trip across the island to other seafood markets. Price on the seafood was about average. I didn't like the fact that it was dark and cramped. It just didn't give me a good vibe. I am sure that the seafood is good (and it was) but when I am buying fresh shrimp and seafood, I like to get a good look at what I am buying. I was in Destin florida for a week with my family, and decided to explore Fort Walton Beach and came up on this place. I went in checked the place out and got a few pounds of fresh jumbo Shrimp and blue shelled crabs. I had the steam them, it's about a 15 minute wait to have them steam your selection, they charge $1 per pound more to steam your seafood but well worth it. The guy at the counter recommend half zaterain's and old bay seasoning, that mix didn't dissapoint it was spot on. I ended up going in the next three days and getting seafood. I purchased a few more pounds of shrimp and lump crab meat to enjoy later. They accept debit card and cash. I would recommend this place to any one looking to pick up fresh fish, fresh oysters, tuna dips, shelled oyster, shrimp, lump crab meat, seasoning for boil, frozen sausage, and some fish bait. read more

As someone who grew up here, I'm no stranger to eating delicious, fresh-caught fare, and this spot continues the tradition. I arrived at my parent's house for Christmas last night and my brother had picked up a heap of seafood from Gulf Coast. We had raw oysters, oyster stew, boiled shrimp, and broiled grouper. All was well and delicious, but we had to set some aside for the Fry Daddy. We mixed up some hush puppy mix and plopped them in along with the leftover shrimp and oysters. Yum! Everything came out delicious and flavorful, and definitely not overly fishy. Throw in some cheese grits and cocktail sauce, and this was a southern-style spread worthy of the holidays. Just fabulous! All in all, this was a fine holiday feast, and of course the credit is partially due to the cook, but without the fresh, off-the-boat fixings it wouldn't have been possible. I've stopped in here several times. If you're in Ft. Walton Beach it's much more convenient than driving to one of the three better known markets in Destin. However, convenience is the only thing Gulf Coast has going for it in comparison. It's much less clean and bright than the competition; and clean and bright are very important attributes to me when it comes to seafood markets. I like my seafood markets to remind me more of hospitals than antique shops. The prices are about the same or maybe a little better than the other shops. But the selection is significantly narrower. On my most recent visit they had three varieties of whole fish (Red Snapper, Mango Snapper, and Mullet), five of filets (Red Snapper, Tilapia, Tuna, Amberjack and Grouper), and shrimp in five sizes (all headless). All the seafood I've ever gotten here has been of acceptable quality. The box of oysters I got last time were the dirtiest oysters I've ever seen in my life. The inside of the box looked like someone took a shovel full of bay mud (with some oysters in it) and dumped it in the box. I've shucked probably a couple thousand oysters in my life and this was the first time I felt like I had to clean off the mud, worms and barnacles. I'm guessing this has to do with the quality of the supplier, but it reflects on the retailer. The amount of mud also seemed to cut the number of oysters. I didn't have a scale to weigh it, but 15# box usually fills my oyster cooler almost to the top, this box seemed to have about 1/4 less than normal. I'll probably come back here again when I don't have time to drive to Destin. But it won't be my first choice. read more

Though the shop is small, all the seafood we got were fresh, great quality and all reasonably priced in this area. Saved us a 90min drive to Joe Pettie's! Clayton was very friendly and helpful. Bought a couple pounds of large gulf shrimp here the other night. Everything there looked real fresh. They were even cleaning some fish a group had brought in from a trip. Shrimp were delicious. Store had all the seasonings and sauces you would need to cook any seafood. Also got the Cajun smoked salmon dip on recommendation from the young gentleman helping me out. It did not disappoint. Overall I would definitely recommend this market in Ft Walton area. I have only tried one other place in Destin, but I will be coming back here next time I'm in town. read more

I went here over a year ago and didn't know what to expect. I thought it was a new place because I saw they'd been painting the place and stuff. I came in, a newbie in town, and asked, "are you new in town?" I thought they'd just opened up. "No, we just renovated," was the reply. I didn't mean to insult them, and I don't think I did. Their response was neutral, but it wasn't friendly either. So I've got some friends who are big on being "classy;" I don't really know what that means or care, but they think they are upper-class and like to live like it and show it, so I asked what's a "classy" fish to get to please my guess. "I dunno," was the answer. (Why do they all wear uniforms like they are mechanics? Maybe that doesn't matter, because it at least identifies them.) "Trigger," the man behind the iced fish said. I got the trigger, and ended up cancelling the fish dinner because I got sick, so I ended up eating it. The fish was really great. I know this place sells fish to nearby restaurants and stuff, so maybe that's why they have more of a neutral attitude towards individuals coming in and buying, like some kind of a wholesaler, but I think something could be said for improving their customer service. read more

Every time I pull in the parking lot here AC/DC Lyrics start going thru my mind.."it ain't exactly pretty..ain't exactly small..42-39-56..you could say this store has it all"...it's not much to look at as it's painted in some god awful blue color that was probably purchased out of The Lowes Clearance Bin and the place is kind of run down, but damn if they don't have some great fresh seafood...they don't have the overall selection that Sextons and Destin Ice do, but they have the basics like shrimp..oysters..flounder..grouper,,red snapper..etc that 95 percent of people would be looking for...they also have a small selection of spices and marinades to use on seafood....most everything here is fresh never frozen which you certainly can't say about Publix and The Marts Seafood.....and most importantly if your in Fort Walton it saves you a drive to Destin which is a complete nightmare 5 months a year...you could charter a boat and go catch the fish yourself quicker than you can get out to Destin and buy it and make the drive back these days..prices are high(Grouper 18,99 a pound), but you get what you pay for these days if you want good fresh seafood...this place would be 5 stars all the way if it was not for the surly unfriendly staff...I'm convinced The Owner is having a contest where the first staff member that is caught being nice or helpful to a customer will be fired...seriously they are like "The Seafood Nazis"....ask them too many questions and they might yell "No Grouper For You!!..One Year!!"...complain about your Red Snapper Filet and you will be banned from Gulf Coast Seafood for life.....I am aware of the scenario so I just walk in with my head down not making eye contact and softly say "pound of grouper please"..hand a twenty to worker saying "keep the change"..walk out the door having never made eye contact with anyone and drive off to grill some delicious fish...even then at times I feel like I am close to getting the eviction notice...in closing it's a great place to get fresh seafood without having to drive over to Destin as long as you don't make small talk..complain..or ask stupid questons...easy 4 stars for the entire experience and will be upped to 5 the first time I have a friendly word uttered to me there read more

This place is not as neat and tidy inside like the rest of the fish markets in Destin but, they sell Appalachicola oysters for $26/box and to me that alone deserves a 5 stars. The staff on a busy Friday afternoon took their time in showing me how to shuck an oyster. They even helped bring the box in my car even with a little rain outside.
