They let you choose up to three broth options which is cool. The lacking part is vegetables. There are not many vegetable selections. It is not great for vegetarian friends. There is no vegetable bar to pick items from. They bring them to you. The sauce bar was also lacking. Not many selections. Quality of the food is really good. I am visiting from Socal and it was pretty good! Honestly, price wasn't super worth it cause my sister and I have smaller appetite. We got the AYCE dinner option and the total came out to $90+ tip.... Personally, if you have a smaller appetite, I don't recommend but if you can eat a lot it's definitely worth it! But I got the spicy miso and the spicy sichuan which was super flavorful, and the meats were really tender. The place itself was superrr clean and I loved all the decorations inside. We chose the regular AYCE which comes out to $40 ish per person. The vegetable portions are pretty large so start at with just one of each before moving on. I accidentally ordered two of each of the veggie portions and we were unable to finish everything. Staff was also great. Our server was Alex, who was so friendly and attentive! Thanks Alex for being so welcoming and helping with the menu! Beautiful interior with cute pink faux foliage. Spacious and clean. Tons of seating and matching decor. Music wasn't too loud and matched the vibes pretty well. Overall, really good experience and I will definitely come back with my friends. I haven't tried the drink menu yet but I will eventually! Absolutely loved this spot!! I had never done hot pot before so I wasn't sure how it was gonna go but Shabu Shack did not disappoint. When you get there you share a pot with someone and choose your own broth + meat and cook it yourself. I went with the wagyu and it was delicious. I tried almost every flavor of broth and all of them were amazing. The portion size is HUGE for only $24!! The experience of cooking it ourselves was slightly stressful but also very fun, and they have a whole bar where you can grab additional sauces, and toppings for free. Had an OK first-time experience at Shabu Shack. My party and I got seated fairly quickly but it did take a little longer than expected for a server to open our table and take our first order, especially since the restaurant seemed not busy at all. We got seated next to tables that were not cleaned and remained uncleaned for pretty much our whole duration of our meal until either another party came in and needed to sit our until the end of our meal, and it was then the staff was cleaning more tables. I don't know the situation of what was going on or why tables were cleaned at certain times but it just threw me off sitting next to unclean tables as well as seeing the utility cart with the 3 bins for dishes just out in the open in the dining area... The food itself was pretty solid, though I think there aren't as much options as I was hoping for compared to other hotpot restaurants, especially for the price we paid. The beef options were great but the lamb here tasted a little too gamey & bitter (again, compared to other places where I've had lamb) for some reason. I really like their selection of sauces they offer which was a highlight for me. If I recall correctly, dessert was NOT included as part of the AYCE which bummed me out a little. Though the cleaning was a little concerning for me, the food itself was not half bad. read more

Our server was very attentive with the heat level of our soup and would turn it down for us when it got too hot. Would definitely come back again! From start to finish, the food and overall experience were great. You can choose all-you-can-eat or à la carte, which makes it easy to tailor your meal. They offer a huge variety of sauces to pair with your soup, and I have to highlight their lemon pepper wings--perfectly fried with a super crisp crust. Dip them in the cilantro ponzu and it's honestly heavenly. I ordered the tom yum veggie soup and added dumplings and lamb for protein. A splash of that cilantro ponzu in the broth took it to another level. I was a little worried everything would take a long time to cook, but the broth arrives hot and comes to a boil quickly, so everything was ready faster than expected. Service was a bit slow during my visit, but it felt like our server might have just been having an off day. The food and overall experience still made it completely worth it. This was my first visit, and definitely the first of many to come. Shabu Shack won me over. read more

Went with some friends on friday night, we had tonkostu broth and a medium spice level Sichuan broth. Both were super flavorful, the medium level spice had a kick to it! Had the regular AYCE and had the available beef meats and lamb. A solid place to come eat at when you're in the area, it was a pretty busy night so it was expected to wait a bit to restock on some meat. Everything seemed pretty fresh too! I've rated this place 5 stars already but they've recently added a sauce bar which now makes this a SIX STAR experience. They also gave me a side of veggies on top of my vegetarian platter!! SO MANY VEGGIES. Our go to broth is the Sichuan and the creamy vegetarian but have also enjoyed the tom yum, tonkotsu, and miso broth. Delicious!!! Meat had an incredible selection of melting delicacies when cooked medium rare (don't overcooked!). Food was ecstatically incredible and every bite was savory to say the least! Parking is easy with a parking structure right around the corner (no validation). Ambience was classy and is a great date spot or even for celebrations. Service was great with friendly and attentive servers. Bathroom gets tricky with their codes, but understandably so being located in downtown Sacramento to ward off non-customers. I went here to celebrate a friend's December birthday at the beginning of December. We were a party of 5 and tried calling for reservations for dinner at 5 PM. We were told that reservations were not available unless you have a party of 6 or more. When we showed up, we were told that they were closing at 6 PM but they could still serve us. We didn't get our food until after 5:30 (because we spent time deciding what to order). They sat us 2 tables from their big party room. We were not aware that there was a big holiday party that was booked until we saw large groups arriving while we were still eating. Our server kept checking up on us as we kept ordering food. She was friendly and was constantly checking in. Overall, it was a good experience with the exception of another server telling us we had to leave as we were still finishing our food. Pros: food and meat were fresh. We did the AYCE basic option. Our server was great and answered all our questions. She checked in often and we constantly had food coming in. I loved that they had a sauce bar. We had someone who was gluten sensitive and our server was very accommodating to her needs, making sure they had gluten free broth available. Cons: closest parking is a parking garage, which added up ($26) since we were there eating for a while. It was not a pleasant experience since the restaurant knew they were holding a holiday party and sat us right where they were having the party. The people waiting for the holiday party were standing around our table waiting (and staring) as we were eating. If they told us ahead of time they couldn't accommodate us, we would've chosen another place. They did comp us 2 alcoholic drinks for our inconvenience. Next time I go to Shabu Shack, I will go to the Elk Grove location since I had a better experience overall there. read more

If you're craving Shabu in downtown, this is the best place around! Located across from the Golden 1 Center and DOCO, this place does have a higher price tag than most Shabu places but I found it reasonable for lunch. Its decor is very modern with pink floral accents and there are plenty of tables and booths. There is only one waiter for lunch and he was handling the bussing, service, hosting, orders, and serving. I ordered the beef belly lunch special, which was $20 and came with veggies and vermicelli noodles. I chose the tonkatsu broth and it was very deep and delicious in flavor. The assortment of veggies and tofu were great and very filling. They also have a great sauce area on the side with great options to make your own dipping sauce. To name a few: ponzu, sesame, sesame oil, soy, spicy, garlic, green onions, cilantro. Overall, it was a great lunch and I was in and out in under an hour. I know this place has had some issues with break-ins but I hope they stick around! read more

I planned to take my wife to a Kings game, and we decided to stop by Shabu Shack beforehand. I have to say--we were not disappointed. From the warm lighting to the friendly staff, the atmosphere was great. We started with the lemon pepper wings, perfectly battered and absolutely to die for. I added Thai chilies for a little extra heat and paired them with the chili cilantro ponzu sauce. For my main dish, I ordered lamb with assorted vegetables in a spicy Sichuan broth. I'll admit, I cranked up the heat a bit too much once it started boiling, but everything still turned out great. Mixing my broth with my wife's tom yum helped balance things perfectly. My only complaint was the service; the staff didn't check in periodically, and I had to pause my meal just to flag down our server. Other than that, the experience was fantastic. If you're ever in Sacramento, definitely give this place a try--you won't be disappointed. We can't wait to go back and explore more of their flavors. read more

My first hot pot experience was at their location in Elk Grove and I'm so happy to have one closer to me now! The quality is amazing and the service is fast! I'm obsessed with the pumpkin side and the mushrooms!! The meat is in good portions and they bring it out fast when you order more. You can even order more from a QR code at the table. The sauce bar is very diverse and you can create your own concoction which is fun. My friend got the Thai tea and it was so good he got one to go. The veggie broth is my absolute favorite it's so creamy and light so if you get spice along with it it's a great mix or option to cool down your mouth.
