I'm glad they do play the music I enjoy listening too, this place is awesome for small to big groups. There are tons of good hot pot places in town, and shabuya is good but has a touch of "corporate" that comes through by way of slightly muted broths IMO. It is still a good place to go, but it doesn't feel like comfort food. Broth choices are ok, meat selection is a bit smaller than many places, but the veggie/sea food bar is solid. I give it a 4th start because they allow you to join the wait list remotely, which is amazing. read more

This has to now be our favorite AYCE (all you can eat) restaurant. We don't live on this side, so any chance we get to eat here is a must! It's best to join their waitlist or come in the morning/early lunch. This place tends to get busy especially if you have a bigger party. Previously during the pandemic, you couldn't grab your own food. But, they are back to normal now. For the price you pay it's definitely worth it. You get appetizers, your base, of individual soup, any of their meats & all you can eat sides/seafood! I go there generally for the meat/soup/udon & my husband is all about the clams/fish/shrimp. Do keep in mind, if you have a taller toddler, you might need to pay for them. My daughter just turned 4 and she's almost the height that I need to pay for her even if she doesn't eat as much. My girlfriend and I love to save Shabuya for a special occasion but this time we were just craving hotpot. Honestly I can't think of a better deal for hotpot (at least in Honolulu). $29.99/person for all-you-can-eat is such a deal nowadays. We've tried other hot pot restaurants that have ala carte or shabu shabu sets but it always comes out to an $80+ bill for the two of us ($40+ each person). We've even tried doing our own hotpot at home (ingredients bought from H-Mart and Don Quijote) and it still came out to $30+/person (not to mention all of time and labor done on prep and dishwashing). Their selection of meats are premium. We love the wagyu, beef toro, rib eye, and pork belly--ranked in that order. You also can't go wrong with any of their broths (we tried them all) but our favorites are the original and sukiyaki. The appetizers (although small selection) are also AYCE, so we definitely take advantage of multiple rounds of gyoza. The salad bar/noodle bar/sauce bar is another nice perk. Love their selection of noodles, veggies, and seafood to add to your hotpot. The service has always been pretty good for us. We understand the waiters are running around non-stop since it's always crazy busy so props to them. The bussers are always on it as well. I would give it a negative ZERO stars from our experience. Sadly we use to come here A LOT until this last time we came to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday, I will never come here again nor will I recommend this place to any of my family and friends. As pictured we had a little roach in our tonkatsu broth, waited for the manager to come and deal with the issue & when we brought it to her attention (Michelle) she was in disbelief, apologized and took away the bowl and informed the server (Wilson) and that was the last we seen of her, she never came to check on us, she never showed her face etc. & of course we said we don't want the same broth & the server brings the same broth in the pitcher, I'm like we don't want the same broth! Wow. We've been loyal Shabuya customers for years, but this last visit was the final straw. This location has completely gone downhill. * Filthy & broken equipment: Our table burners didn't work, so they gave us portable ones that were absolutely disgusting--covered in sauce and grime from previous diners. * Dirty plates: Multiple plates came out with old food stuck on them. Completely unsanitary. * Terrible seating: Five of us were crammed onto the smallest table (with 2 burners broken), no room for plates or food. Meanwhile, larger booths sat open with just 2 people in them. Makes zero sense. * Lazy service: Our server, Qiyan L, spent most of the time chatting with coworkers instead of serving us. We had to chase him down for basic things like more meat or even water. * Tip harassment: At the end, he suddenly gave way more attention to a nearby Japanese table (obviously hoping for a better tip). When we left a tip that reflected his poor service, he actually asked us to reopen the tab so we could change it. Take note: other reviews mention this same server, Qiyan L, has had issues with tip harassment and taking more than allowed in the past. Shabuya used to be our go-to, but this location is now overcrowded, dirty, and run by staff who clearly don't care. A tip is earned--if service is bad, don't expect one. Shabuya is the premier all you can eat hot pot place on Oahu. They have a wide variety of broth and meat options. And their open bar with vegetable, seafood, noodle, and other options lets you customize your meal to your liking. The selection of food is okay for the price. You choose the broth and meats, and you can get as much vegetables and seafood at the buffet area. They do charge for wasting food, so make sure you can eat it all. This is a good shabu shabu place. Just make sure you go on the waitlist before you show up at the restaurant, to save time. Wait times can go between 1-2 hours. You can put yourself on the waitlist on Yelp. Then show up at the restaurant before the check in time, so the host knows you are here. It's always worth the trek to Ala Moana (from Ewa) just to eat at Shabuya. I have lost track of the amount of times I have been here and have yet to have even the slightest reason to disappoint or complain. Came here with my cousins for the first time because we would always see this place and was so curious especially because we love hot pot! This place is located in Ala Moana shopping center right by the parking lot across of jamba juice and next to longs.. you wont miss it! The service is really good! I got to check in on yelp and put myself on a waiting list without even going inside of the restaurant, so cool! lol they checked our temp and seated us. the workers were all wearing masks and kept clean the entire night. Our waiter was super nice, explained the menu to us, what their popular dishes were etc. The food was super good!!! you get all you can eat vegetables & 12 choices of meat!
