Asia was very welcoming and sweet! we are from Texas and we had a great time. Old time vibes and good drinks and staff was great. Good ambiance

    The Shady Lady

Stopped in today, had to with that name! Loved it! Sat at the bar and was able to talk to the owner Leslie. She was so sweet and shared the history of the town and bar. Definitely a cute place and love that she keeps the traditions alive in this quaint mining town

I got molested at the shady lady and the bartender just watched. I felt very uncomfortable and was groped multiple times

Leslie aka "The Shady Lady"... SUPER sweet gal!

A truly enjoyable place to stop for a drink and food after the train ride to Silverton! Recently reopened by Leslie, a Silverton local (a friendly and industrious 24 year old... aka "The Shady Lady"), this is a charming restaurant and saloon right off the DSNG station. Save yourself the walk to Main Street and definitely stop here after the 3.5 hour train ride from Durango!

We went here after a long train ride. We ended up going in when they were closed. The lady out front ( dressed up as old western) asked someone if it was ok for us to go in . They let us and I'm SOO glad they did. The server was awesome ( don't know his name, no one was wearing name tags ) . The tequila sunrise was great. Thanks very much for letting us in even though you were closed

OK, I stopped here for lunch because, yes it was a house of ill-repute at one time. Yes it was over priced, food tasted so so. At least the water was cold. Sidenote: the kids near the train track were selling rocks from their wagon. Cute kids. If you see them, buy some rocks. They'll give you a deal too.

The worst food ever. Burgers were tasteless, fries were not crispy. I know it's a busy weekend, but come on put some love on the food.

The waitress taking down names seemed dazed, related to how to manage. Someone older and more experienced saw us, came over, answered our question about the wait, and immediately sat us. We very much appreciated it. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, checking in on us very often. We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, the strawberry walnut salad, and the half order of chicken. The salad was fresh and tasted really good. I liked the vinaigrette that was offered. I also really liked the chicken sandwich. It tasted great with the fries after a long day of exploring and hiking. I'd definitely come back. I couldn't believe how many people were seated inside, and it seemed they had everything under control. People were enjoying themselves.

Although there was a group of 12 ahead of us, our wait was just 10 mins as they were pretty good about crowd management. The inside decor is super cool with taxidermy animals everywhere. We saw bobcat, mountain lion, mountain sheep, and all kinds of animals that you would expect to live in Colorado. There were super funny signs everywhere (my favorite was the oats one). The disappointment was the food portion size. I ordered a reuben sandwich for $19 which came with a very skinny portion of meat between two small pieces of toast. We barely got maybe 10 fries with it. For $19 I expected the portion size to be a little bigger. Their draft beer were on the smaller size at 12 oz instead of the standard 16oz. Come here to checkout the cool wall decorations and maybe get a drink but skip the food. If a real cowboy walked into this saloon, he would be pretty angry by the portion size and probably start a bar fight!

Instead of being welcomed, we were immediately interrogated by the woman at the front, then questioned again by the bartender. We were seated and left sitting there for 30 minutes without a single person taking our order or offering service. Our waitress even apologized and admitted she "hates that she can't help us," making it obvious the staff had intentionally decided not to serve us. Throughout the entire time, my service dog was exactly where a service dog should be--quietly lying under the table at my feet, causing absolutely no disruption. After waiting half an hour, I finally asked if we were ever going to be served. That's when we were told the issue was my service dog. When I questioned this, the bartender's response was to tell me I "didn't need an attitude." I've written maybe five Yelp reviews in my life, but this experience deserves to be shared. The way we were treated was humiliating, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable. It felt like we were being singled out simply because I have a disability and rely on a service animal. All six of us got up and left because of how we were treated. Small businesses deserve support when they treat people with respect. This business did the opposite. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I sincerely hope no one else has to experience the kind of discrimination we did.

The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, but they got us seated much faster than we expected. Even with only two waitresses who were also handling hostess duties, the service was outstanding. Everything arrived hot and in a very reasonable amount of time. The potatoes were well-seasoned and full of flavor, and the biscuits tasted fresh and homemade. The pancake and bacon rounded out a delicious breakfast. The prices were very fair, the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and they also offer outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the mountain air. If you're visiting on the Durango & Silverton train, I recommend heading there promptly upon arrival, as the restaurants in town fill up quickly and long wait times can consume much of your limited time in Silverton. The café serves breakfast and lunch, opening at 7am, stop serving breakfast at 10:40 a.m. and closing at 2:30 p.m. During my visit, I ordered the Frito Pie, a dish featuring chili topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and Frito corn chips. While it was enjoyable, it lacked the level of spice I had expected from a Southwest Colorado specialty. My son ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and described it as decent. For dessert, I was fortunate to get the last slice of apple pie available, although they had already run out of whipped cream. The interior has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, but seating is limited and there is no air conditioning. Since temperatures reached 82°F during our visit, we opted to sit outside. Service was average, but the food arrived quickly, which was appreciated. One of the biggest advantages of dining here was avoiding the long lines that had formed at other restaurants. As we walked back to the train station, we noticed many people still waiting to be seated and served. Overall, this is a good option for train passengers looking for a convenient meal in Silverton, especially if you arrive early enough to beat the crowds.

More specifically, we heard what was described as "the best room in the place" offered to the gentleman checking in directly before us for $182. For nearly $300 a night, we expected a much better experience. Our toilet was also clogged, which certainly didn't help. I reached out to the hotel directly before posting a review because, as locals, I wanted to give them an opportunity to address our concerns. The response explained dynamic pricing and that rooms can range from $49-$385, depending on the room and time of year. I completely understand how dynamic pricing works, but that explanation didn't really address why we had just paid nearly $300 while hearing "the best room in the place" offered for $182 during the same check-in period. I was also disappointed that the clogged toilet was characterized as something that was "easy to miss by housekeeping." At this price point, a functioning bathroom feels like a pretty basic expectation. We really wanted to like this place and hoped, as locals, it could be somewhere we would return to or recommend to others. Unfortunately, between the price, the room issue, and the response to our concerns, the overall experience left us feeling like the value simply wasn't there.
