The worst food ever. Burgers were tasteless, fries were not crispy. I know it's a busy weekend, but come on put some love on the food.

Iconic is the word that comes to mind! If you're in Silverton you cannot miss this spot and their divine Apple cobbler. The owner herself greets you and it's a social bar where you can hangout with a group or alone. Great vibes overall with amazing food. It is also right across from the Silverton train station. Definitely spend sometime appreciating the history of this place if you visit, highly recommend visiting! read more

I ordered the hot dog--big disappointment. My husband's sandwich was palatable. They were completely out of all diet drinks when we went --they are closing for the season so they can't restock. On the positive side our server was lovely and everyone there was so friendly. Perhaps going for a drink rather than lunch might have been the right choice :) read more

We stopped in for a cocktail while visiting Silverton. Place had so much character! Formerly a brothel in this old mining town. Very quiet when we visited early- mid afternoon on a weekday. Really cute & friendly bartender, Asia- from Massachusetts. She wasn't very busy so she chatted with us & the one other customer at the bar. It was mid afternoon so we did not have a meal, but a couple other customers had meals that looked delicious. Asia told us that she & the other bartenders usually dress in the corsets & skirts & hats that servers wore in the late 1800's & early 1900's. She made it a fun afternoon. read more

Okay, the prices are a bit spendy - but it's Silverton - an isolated tourist trap, so I understand why. The service was absolutely fantastic - fast, friendly, efficient, correct, and they even customized menu selections for us. The food itself is not so great. It fills a need without being inspired. But -- I'm in Silverton to run around and have fun/shop/etc. I'm not here for culinary Valhalla. Rode the train from Durango to town. Starving and unfortunately this was the first thing we came across. Wanted to try the French dip and very sad that I did. The food was questionable, French dip, frozen burger patty burger, club sandwich was pretty normal. It was overpriced and under delivered for sure. We expect that from a tourist town but I'm still disappointed that we ate there. Our waitress was nosy and all in our table conversation and actually butted in twice which I thought was rude. The new owner here is incredible. Our wedding party stopped in after my dear friend's elopement and had a wonderful time. This is the kind of place we would frequent if we lived in the area. First of all...they only take cash but we were not told that until we brought out our debit card. The person that stopped to pick up our check said he hated to be the bearer of bad news. We just happened to have the cash. Our waiter stopped to pick up our tab after he saw that the previous person had stopped by and said, " oh, did he give you the bad news....I should have told you we only take cash before I took your order.......Ya Think! They claim to have real mashed potatoes but I find that very hard to believe after eating their Hot Beef sandwich, which was not that good. The beef gravy lacked flavor. Odd,we went there today, Saturday around 1 pm. Train was in town but Shady Lady was closed? Did they not survive the pandemic??

My fiancé and I went here to get something after a long train ride. She got the open faced beef sandwich and I got the frito pie. The frito pie was most definitely made from ingredients out of a can and had been sitting in a pot for days. Nothing special about it and definitely not worth the $9 I paid for it. The open faced beef sandwich consisted of a piece of cheap wonder bread with canned dog food piled on top. The gravy was awful and the beef was just as bad. It was served with a side of room temperature corn (straight from the can and zero seasonings) and prison cafeteria quality mashed potatoes. We were too hungry to send it back and deal with managers who probably weren't there. (Service was sub-par) I cannot recommend this place at all. Go anywhere else but here. read more

At first glance we were happy to eat here--atmosphere was nice with a great history. Then we were told they were short staffed and the cook was our waitress. That does not excuse the 1 1/2 hour time to get our food--and even two members of our six person group not even getting their food. When we tried to ask about it we were told that the manager would come talk to us. No manager ever came and when we tried to discuss it with the waitress we ended up getting an aggressive response of it's not my fault. Several tables that came in after us left before us. When we were told that our bill for one rueben, one hamburger, one Shady Lady burger and two sodas came to $61.00-and I questioned it--the waitress said we could come to the calculator with her but 'she doesn't have time to deal with this'. I paid (ended up being $20 too much) and just left. What food we did get was good though. Seems like there is a lack of employees in general in Silverton but would take my chances elsewhere next time. read more

These are most friendly people you will ever meet and they are making great strides to improve the place since they took over ownership. I hated to give this any stars at all. It is a rip off. The owner needs to be reviewed by the IRS for his cash only policy. The food is cheaply made, terribly served and horribly over-priced. I have never had such a terrible experience. Of course I should know better than to expect any kind of service from a joint so close to the train let out-if Al Harper was smart he would provide flyers to his train customers about this place. I haven't eaten here, so this review will not be about the food. We were on a family trip and the cousins/spouses (a lively crew in our 30's!) went out for some drinks. Romero's closed, we wanted to continue the festivities, so they directed us to the Shady Lady. The drinks were pretty basic bar drinks - some had whisky and a mixer, the rest had beer. It's hard to screw up opening a bottle of Coors Light, or pouring a shot of whisky and adding some coke, but what got the 4 stars was the friendliness of the bartenders. We ended up here twice on our stay, and both times we stayed until the place closed. At the end of the night, this seems to be the place that the local servers go once their shifts have ended. We had a great time chatting with them! They also have a jukebox, which kept us entertained. read more
