This place has CHANGED and definitely not for the better. The menu is very skimpy now and leaves NO room for those who don't/can't eat fish. There's roughly 2 chicken dishes to choose from now. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and my husband ordered the redfish from the chef's specialty menu. The salad was the size of a side salad at $16 and the redfish was smaller than that. It came with potatoes and sautéed vegetables that were not cooked at all and came out cold. The fish was underdone as well. For $35, I would have expected a lot more fish and sides that were cooked all the way through and hot. The only redeeming quality was the free dessert we got for ordering the mess of a redfish dish. We got one of the cheesecakes and were thoroughly satisfied with that and that alone. The service wasn't terrible but the server was up our butt clear up to the point that we received our food. Then she was nowhere to be found and we ended up with 3 different people coming to check on us sporadically. Overall just a really bad experience for what used to be our favorite place. read more

First visit today (Thursday) and our party of five had a great time. We brought family from out of town. As we approached and we looked for a photo opportunity and one of the staff came out to take our family pictures. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Cool island / Key West vibe going here. Inside and outside seating both available. Good selection of items on the menu, lots of them are seafood and shellfish. Excellent service from all the staff we met. We had a member of the party with shellfish allergies so when made aware of this, our waitress - Norah - made a note of it for the kitchen and the food of our shellfish allergic individual was prepared and brought out separately from the other items so as to avoid any issues. I'm not sure if the management has changed, or something else, but our dinner experience tonight was different (and not in a good way) than any visit we have ever had before. We had an early dinner (5:00 PM) and it was not particularly crowded. We were seated quickly and ordered drinks, an appetizer, and our entrees. Our entrees arrived, with no sign of the appetizer oysters and no mention of them when our entrees arrived. I told our server to disregard on the oysters since our meal had already arrived, and she seemed very confused, but said "ok". A few minutes later, the oysters were brought to the table by a different server who told us that we would not be charged. The entrees: My wife ordered the 1/2 pound of Royal Reds, which is what she always orders. Tonight, it was 6 shrimp. That was the "1/2 pound". Six shrimp. I ordered the Seafood Boil. It included, as expected, 2 pieces of corn on the cob. They were ice cold. I don't mean "not hot". I mean cold, as if they had just come out of a freezer. Shortly after our entrees were served, a manager stopped by the table to ask how our meal was. I asked her if the corn was supposed to be ice cold, and she said it was not. She took the corn and had it replace, several minutes later, with corn that was hot. I will say that the food was very good. I shared my Seafood Boil with my wife, since she was only served 6 shrimp as an entree. When our check came, I am glad I reviewed it carefully, because the oysters that were supposed to be comped (since they didn't arrive until after the entrees) was listed at full charge. We have always enjoyed Shaggy's, especially on a beautiful night like tonight, but something has clearly changed. It was not a good experience. read more

I really liked this place. We stopped by here on a road trip out to visit University of Southern Mississippi for a tour. Someone in our party has a shellfish allergy. When she mentioned this, our waitress put that into her beep boop order taking machine (that's the official name, trust), and let us now that she put it in. Her food also came out first and was called the "shellfish allergy plate." Our waitress was also very nice. The food was very good! It was large amounts of food and delicious crispy fries. The food was flavorful and had soft warm buns. Possibly my favorite part of the place was the location and the design - both inside and outside. It was on a large body of water and had a dock attached, leading to the porch which allowed for outdoor seating. It had a bright interior with music loud enough you could hear it but not so loud you couldn't talk to anybody. The water was pretty, and had a few turtles, which my mom loved. read more

The customer service was wonderful. I interacted with a lot of friendly staff members. The management came over to my table a good amount of times without their being any problems. My date ordered the catfish platter. He enjoyed it. I ordered the friend green tomatoes and I added shrimp. I wasn't a fan of the tomatoes, I just personally prepare them a different way. I'm not a fan of corn meal on them. They weren't the worst. I just didn't enjoy them. I had a great time though, fun friendly environment. Shaggys on The Rez is a Hit or Miss -- when it comes to food and service. On the 4th of July the restaurant was not busy - The waitress was nice but was not on her game - After she took our appetizer order, she completely forgot about us - she stood leaning on a corner wood column, she visited a table behind us, still did not stop. We had to ask another wait staff for a refill in drinks -- we had to ask yet a third wait staff to place our entree order. $130.00 bill and we should have given her a $1.00 tip. This restaurant needs to train their staff -- I am finished giving this restaurant a try. They also cut their menu in half -- so what you see online is not correct. $130.00 is too much for a stressful dining experienc. read more

The atmosphere here on the reservoir is perfect! It's very busy & they don't take reservations but you can join the call ahead wait list. When you arrive and check in with the host they offer 3 different options of premixed cocktails at half price ($4) & you can walk along the water with them while you wait. Service was efficient & friendly. The view is to die for especially if you're lucky enough to be there at sunset. It was a Saturday so they had live music outside. Although we were disappointed in the fried green tomatoes the tuna poke bowl was excellent! We really enjoyed our experience here! read more

Love this location! Such a fun place to dine with friends, relaxing view, good music, awesome staff! We agreed 3* on the food, but we're bumping it to 4*, because the experience is more than the sparce portions. We're all average & healthy, portions were really just that small-example, I counted 8 fries on my plate. We realise they may still be recovering from "the thing" financially, so we forgave that. Lots of parking, short wait for 6 guests on a Saturday night-so no complaints. Great bar staff as well, made the short wait pleasureable. Came to mississippi to bool with my dawgs. Heard in Jackson Missisippi that there is a fat lake with a restaurant near by. My friend told me it's the spot so we went there to eat. He was not wrong. The views there were spectacular. We had an outside seat by the lake so it was refreshing to eat my food as I starred at the blue water. The gooses were also entertaining. They were right under us waiting for food to fall so that they could gobble it up. It was fun I got the jalapeño peach margarita to start off. Oh man this was really good. There was also some cajun seasoning on the rims. Made me feel like a true southerner. We started off with some coconut fried shrimp appetizers. These were BANGER. The shrimp was cooked so well. The sauce that came with it was really good. Next I got the redfish bahama grill. This was pretty good. I liked the sweet sauce they put on the fish and the rice was good too. I was not a big fan of the pineapple however. But that is a personal opinion. At the end of the dinner when we were paying, my friends credit card fell through the cracks of the porch into the water underneath. GASP! How unfortunate!! It was pretty tragic. We told the employees of what happened. We knew it was pretty unlikely that the card would be recovered but one of their managers came in to help. His name is Kevin. He said he could help us. Kevin went under the deck near the water and searched! He searched and searched and somehow, HE FOUND THE CARD! WHAT A MIRACLE. I was shook by his dedication to take No as an answer for the customer. I definitely would come back here and recommend this to anyone. The food was spectacular and on top of that, the service was amazing. Kevin went into the water and searched for our card. Shaggys is great spot to go with a group with people. The atmosphere and location is what keeps up going back. The kids love it. If you having a birthday party they will sing a fun birthday song for you and we love that. I feel like the menu is a little limited, but they do have tasty adult drinks. Overall: It's a cool hangout! If I were judging on food and price (in comparison to MS pricing), probably a 3, but atmosphere and drinks are 5..... so a 4 it is. Trivia Monday, Karaoke Tuesday, live music, etc. I love Shaggy's. The atmosphere had me at "Hello." The drinks, and the Rez views make me feel like I'm on vacation at the beach! Food: It's a good place to get some drinks and seafood. My go-to is the catfish platter and Rasta punch. There are plenty of other options too such as burgers, quesadillas, tacos, wings, etc. There's honestly something for everyone. The shrimp spinach dip is a yummy appetizer. Ours wasn't really hot when we got it. If it were warm, it would have been even better. They have fried pickles (but they're very salty... almost too salty). Price: It's a "touristy" spot and so are the prices, although this isn't really a tourist area. But with the atmosphere, consider you're also paying for the entertainment. Service: Great! read more

Don't let that make the food taste better than it is...and pretty (again) pretty Pricey for the grub we get so close to home...3 hours to my Gulf shrimp and fish, less than 2 hours to my crawfish, less than 3 hours to my oysters.... For $11.00 you, too can be served a "large bowl" of soup for your lunch without a soup spoon. The glass of iced tea has greater volume than this bowl. "She-crab" soup is supposed to be thickened by the eggs of the "she-crab". This was clearly thickened with flour. Talk about a gyp! read more

We recently hosted my grandmother's 80th birthday party in Shaggy's upstairs party room. It was an incredible event!! The food was quick and delicious. The drinks were yummy. We told them that my grandmother loves to dance and they took special care to set up the room so that there was a little dance floor to accommodate. The staff really went above and beyond to take care of the crowd. In particular, I have to give a special shout out to our server Morgan, who worked her butt off all afternoon, running up and down the stairs, but still found the energy to grab a couple of guests and come out on the dance floor with them to get the crowd dancing!! We came here for lunch and had tried to come several times, but both times they had a long line out the door waiting. We got there just before noon and were seated immediately and when we left there were several groups waiting to be seated. It was really noisy inside. This would be a great place to go when the weather is nice and to sit outside and have a drink. The food was good, but I didn't think it was great. We got the beach balls because the waitress raves about how great they were. They were good, but I thought they were really mushy. I got the burger and I did think it was near that the pickles that they give you for it are fried. The fries were the highlight of my meal.
