The same friendly service that was prevalent at Shaka Brah's original location on Portland Road has found its way to their 2nd location in South Salem on Commercial. This new location is much larger than the original and has inside seating with tables for about 20 patrons. The inside decor is clean and hip with custom-made neon lighting. Their is ample parking at this Commercial Street strip mall, right across the street from Washman Car Wash. For this take-out order, I ordered a plate of Shoyu Chicken with Macaroni Salad, and for the other plate, I ordered the Kalua Pig & Cabbage with Sweet Corn. I love that we are getting more options for Hawaiian food in the area. The convenience of this place to work makes it a bit of a go to, but I prefer the menu at a couple of other places. My biggest dilemma with Shaka Brah is that every time I have ordered on DoorDash one of the items gets refunded so we end up with only one of us having food. read more

Great little place on the main drag in Salem (Commercial Street), tucked in a small strip mall. Small seating area, cool atmosphere, great menu board and teal seating. I went in with to go on my mind. Ordered teriyaki chicken, side of Mac. Food came out quick and I was on my way. Food is just alright. Chicken was shredded, dry, but plentiful. For some reason, I was expecting BBQ teriyaki chicken, with a little char and sliced up. My childhood on Oahu. But, I confess, I'm a white dude and lived on a military base. Nonetheless, we got off the military base and had a lot of teriyaki Bbq chicken. The Mac had zero flavor. I would like this place to succeed. The name alone brings back memories. This just might be a new favorite. I loved the teriyaki chicken. Very tender, juicy and packed full of flavor. The shoyu chicken was also tasty. This one I added the sauce to the rice. Yumsters! When it comes to sides like slaw, pasta or potato salad, I am very picky. When it comes to slaws, I got very spoiled in my youth from "The Barbecue Pit" who is no longer in business! Theirs was phenomenal! That said... The pineapple slaw was good flavor wise but I like a bit more moisture so I added a smidgeon of mayo. The macaroni salad was seasoned nicely but very dry. Ordered take out and had the short ribs/galbi dish. Comes with two sides. Flavor was tasty and the meat portion was generous. Very filling.

I love Hawaiian inspired fare and have had it all over the place. Shaka Brah cart at the Yard is doing it right! I had the Kalua pork with pineslaw and rice and it was top notch. Food is decent prices are good. If you are from Hawaii it usually definitely not the same. Don't go expecting local food from home, I was disappointed. Teri beef is too sweet and kalua pork is mainland kalua. If you are going for decent food I still recommend going it's good for the crazing. read more

Nice staff, generous portions--I can get three hearty meals from a $17 plate. I liked the Korean beef a lot, and the sticky rice. For mac salad, I prefer Holoholo Island Grill in Turner. For teriyaki sauce, I prefer Hawaii Time (you can't write off a restaurant just because it's a chain). Room to dine in, in pleasant surroundings, quiet. Parking never tight in my experience. The location on Portland Rd. is still open but it's nice to have a branch open on my side of town. read more

Not bad. Definitely needs some extra flavor but just okay. I'd go back and try again for sure. The Mac I'm not a fan of at all. JMO.

The beef was so bad, it weirdly disintegrates in your mouth almost like they forgot about the beef cooking and left it cooking for days or tried to pass off beef jerky as the entree. It's kinda offensive they allowed this to pass for human consumption and I would invite any of them to try the beef before selling it to a customer. The rice was good tho? read more

Absolutely phenomenal Hawaiian food. We placed two orders of the teriyaki chicken with Mac and it was incredible. Chicken was cooked perfectly, not dry at all and the taste was amazing.
