Photo taken from the forest to the sea. The guides brought the kayaks up to the forest and then pushed it down into the sea.

Awesome Kayaking trip with plenty of sea turtles, awesome guides,... Wheelchair Accessibility: Upon pick up at the hotel, the guide brought us to a van. The van is fairly high, thus one needs to be fairly mobile to get up there. But the guide was extremely helpful and helped as well to get the chair mounted. Upon arrival, there is no solid walkway thus it's a bit tough for the wheelchair. But again, with the awesome help of the guides we managed to get through it. There is about a 10m way from the forest to the sea through sandy beach. The guides brought the Kayak as close to the wheelchair as possible and then pushed it down the sand into the water once I sat dow in the Kayak. So, getting in to the water was no big deal. Once the tour was done, we brought the Kayak to the beach. The guides then pushed the Kayak (with me on it) as much up the beach as possible. It was pretty heavy and they did a great job to make it as easy as possible to get off the Kayak. Once in my chair, they helped push the wheelchair through the sand up to the forest where there is a better surface. It was real teamwork :-) All in all, this trip is accessible for someone that is fairly mobile. A huge shoutout to the guides who were so extremely helpful! It was an unforgettable morning! (Oh, and the tour itself is a must-do as well, but the other reviewers already covered that )

Absolutely wonderful experience. Our guides Mike and Scott were phenomenal, providing a perfect mix of information and humor. We saw about 20 sea turtles during our tour. Mike was kind enough to take and send along a number of great pictures from our visit which was an unexpected and much appreciated bonus. I can not recommend Shaka Kayaks highly enough. A+++

Kayak your! Parker and Brian are fantastic! Funny with the cheeseball jokes but very knowledgeable! Not hard are on the eyes either

We had a great time, saw several turtles and were treated very good. I would definitely recommend this activity if your on the north shore.

Skip the other turtle excursions and book here! I promise you'll be so glad you did!…read more This is our second trip with Captain Max Boat Tours and we will definitely book again in the future. The team and group size is perfect for maximum turtle sightings and less crowds. The crews are experienced and knowledgeable about the islands and so fun to be around. It's like an outing with your close friends every time you go. We had a small medical emergency occur (totally unrelated to water and boat activities) for one of the members of my family and the Captian and crew were incredible. Their quick thinking and rapid response to the situation ensured everyone's safety and comfort getting her back to shore. They were so kind and supportive and made a potentially scary situation for her as easy as possible. We will absolutely be returning to them on our next trip to the islands.

I read about the excursions off Waikiki that all but promised seeing Honu. I did some research and chose to book with Captain Max Boat Tours and their Turtle Canyon Snorkel. I read reviews and what really attracted me to this outfitter was the fact they ran semi-private boat tours with only 6 guests. Correspondence (email) leading up to the excursion was clear and helpful. We arrived a few minutes early and visited their small shop while checking in. We waited just a few minutes and then were walked over to their boat dock, meeting both the guide, Sophia and the boat captain, Stephanie. They gave us safety information and prepared us for the short boat ride out to "Turtle Canyon". Our craft was a zodiac type inflatable raft with a mounted seats and a windscreen for the captain. We glided out to the snorkel zone with Waikiki beach before us, a grand ocean view of this famous beach. Sophie helped the other guests get their snorkel gear (included in the price) except for us - we bring our own snorkel equipment. We put in the water and after all guests were in, Sophia called in the direction she was leading us. On the way over we swam through schools of fish. This was an awesome experience we did not expect - we snorkel a lot and love seeing the marine life. We learned that some outfitters feed the fish out here and so they stick around instead of swim away, which we're used to experiencing. In about 20 feet of water our guide pointed out several turtles on the bottom. Lucky for us, one of them swap up for air - and stayed near the and stayed near the surface for quite a few minutes (longer than we usually see) which allowed us to get a great view of this beautiful creature (all the while, maintaining a safe distance to protect the turtle). Sophia led us to two other spots nearby, seeing fish on the reef below and several more turtles. Once again we were fortunate to have another turtle swim up to the surface for a few breaths. I'm very glad we chose Captain Max as some of the other outfitters that bring larger groups would have been a very different experience with a group clamoring for views of the few turtles that were out there. Our guide was knowledgeable, approachable, and friendly - and ensured we were all safe (and the marine life were also protected). On our way back to shore we were treated to another great view of Oahu, with Waikiki and Honolulu in the foreground and the mountains behind. Thanks Sophie and Captain Stephanie for a memorable excursion! NOTE: We know that early in the morning is generally the best time to snorkel as the water tends to be calmer, visibility better and fish ore active. We had a 930 start but next time would be the early time (730) as I learned there are even fewer other outfitters out on the water at that time.

Note: the gate closes at 6:45pm, so you'll need to plan accordingly. There are some spaces you may be able to park right outside the gate, but I don't think they're considered official parking spots. Double check signs! There are some large sinks throughout the campgrounds which allow for washing dishes, fruits, and vegetables. It's also a great place to freshen up for the day. The bathrooms were clean for a beach bathroom and there are some showers inside the bathroom space as well. The water is cold! The bathroom was pretty well stocked with toilet paper, though it can get low later at night. Bring extra toilet paper just in case. There was no hand soap. The beach was beautiful! It is covered in reef, so it's not a great swimming spot. Perhaps when the tide is high you may be able to go out--but be extremely careful of our precious coral reefs. Great space for lounging on the beach! As always, remember to pack out what you pack in (and grab some plastic from the beach too!).

It's roughing it but I survived a two night stay and so can you! The Plantation Hale comes with nothing. You basically have a place to sleep. No amenities. We like Hale 1, 2 , and 3 because it is ocean front. Bring everything you need as if you were tent camping (grill, sleeping bags, coolers, etc.). If roughing it is not your jam no worries. They have plantation suites which have indoor toilets! If you don't mind roughing it there are also tent only areas which is very affordable. The best thing about staying here is that the bay is awesome! My kids loved it so much we are going back again in a few weeks.

They also had lots of good snacks (chips, fruit, drinks, spam musubi), and even a bucket of fresh water for a post-snorkel shower! The sandbar was incredible.
