I absolutely love this place! I haven't had a single bad thing on the menu and I've tried a lot. You definitely can't go wrong with the BBQ chicken or Fire Chicken. The fish is good. The panko batter on the chicken katsu is nice and light. We really have enjoyed everything we have gotten here. Also they have amazing customer Service. I absolutely LOVE Shaka. I'm highly impressed with their food. I went to live and California for two years and tried Hawaiian BBQ there for the first time. Once I moved back I hadn't had it... untill Shaka and I was blown away. My only complaint this far is that tonight when I ordered food I got short handed. I not realizing they close at 8 showing up around 7:45 placed me order and patiently waited in the front of the store. I order an aloha plate. Comes with protein, rice, salad, as well as macaroni salad. I got home and to my surprise there was no macaroni salad. This is one of the main reasons why I keep coming back. And I was extremely disappointed. When the food was delivered to me I had asked if it was too late to get another side of macaroni salad and this is when I had found out they closed at 8 because he politely told me no and stated they closed. I was apologetic and left. It's a cold item. You can store is for at least 2 days give or take. So I'm confused on why I had to miss out! Please make sure every order you produce is quality!! I threw a Hawaiian-themed party for my oldest's high school graduation party five years ago, complete with spam musubi and kahlua pork. And that was the last time I had kahlua pork until today. If you have never had it, it's is similar to pulled pork or carnitas. It is smoky and salty. It is usually cooked with pink volcano salt and bananas so it has a hearty taste that you can't quite put your finger on. Shaka is a new Hawaiian restaurant in The Colony that just opened 3 days prior to my visit. Shaka's kahlua pork is both tender and flavorful. We got the family meal to-go. Kalbi and grilled chicken breast are upgrades to the $33 price, so my family meal for 4 came to $46. While you only get 4 pieces of kalbi, you get a lot of kahlua pork. The kalbi was tender and only had one piece that was grisly. The chicken was pretty good but nothing special. The steamed veges that come with it are at the bottom and it is really only steamed cabbage. I did not see any other vegetables. It came with 6 scoops of steamed rice and 4 scoops of macaroni salad. I love Hawaiian macaroni salad, but I know some people think it is too rich. To temper the richness, I like to mix mine with angel hair cabbage. It is kind of like macaroni Cole slaw. Overall, the family meal can probably feed more like 6 people--four adults and two children. I can't wait to try their other things, like katsu. Service was quick and friendly. They also gave me a $10 gc for next time--bonus! I am so glad we have authentic Hawaiian food nearby. read more

All of the chicken was rough. The staff was friendly but I can't get over the roughness of the chicken I understand it's not chicken breast but I've never had anything like it! I grew up in Hawaii and consider myself a Hawaiian plate lunch connoisseur. I have eaten Hawaiian BBQ from Zippy's to Patty's Kitchen to the food truck at Sandy Beach. This place is awesome. The food is all cooked to order. The beef is tender and flavorful. The chicken is cooked extremely well and has that Huli Huli chicken grill flavor from Haleiwa. I recently tried their Fire chicken and was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was. I was intrigued with all the positive reviews and we decided to give it a try. It's very clean and we'll organized which is always a great sign. We ordered the Hawaiian BBQ Mix: includes BBQ Beef, Chicken and short ribs, 2 scoops of steamed rice, 1 scoop of macaroni salad and veggies. It was delicious! This is my first time catering from them. The food was amazing we got the chicken katsu which was extremely crispy and juicy. We went to this place a couple days ago! The drive thru open but not inside seating due to COVID! The curry chicken Katsu was awesome! The spam musubi appetizer (two full rolls - would make a great meal) was great and we shared a lunch plate with roast pork and teriyaki chicken, rice, cabbage and a macaroni salad. Best Hawaiian food in the Dallas area! We've eaten here five different times and the food is ALWAYS so good! We've tried the family meals as well as the plate lunches. There's always plenty of food. There is an extra charge for the Kalbi but it is so worth it! The kalua pork is so ono and the Katsu is delicious. The macaroni salad is authentic (like in Hawaii). Grew up in Southern CA where we had tons of L&L Hawaiian BBQ spots. But sadly moved away from all Hawaiian BBQ to NJ. This place does it right. All the flavors are spot on (one of the ways to know is taste the Mac salad), portion sizes are HUGE and the Spam Musubi comes in pairs. What else could you ever ask for.
