    Bacon cheese burger and fry

It is July and we got to sit inside at the air conditioned bar. Outside is covered and doable. I got a double cheeseburger. Do big. I should have got a single. Good juicy burger with everything. Crispy fries. My pineapple milkshake was delicious. Needed a spoon. Service is always friendly.

The Shake Pit is located directly on the south side of Cortez Road. There are plenty of seats. Burgers are plump juicy and well seasoned. The shakes have authentic flavor and perfect thickness. I've been eating here during trips to the beach for decades and it's never disappointed.

This is a cash-only establishment, but don't worry they have an ATM on-site if you need it. There are plenty of picnic tables outside, which makes it a nice spot to hang out, especially in good weather. They do offer some food options like cheeseburgers, hotdogs, corn dogs, and chicken sandwiches, but we came specifically for the ice cream and we were not disappointed. They have both soft serve and regular ice cream, including some specialty flavors. We ordered a banana split with rocky road, triple peanut butter, and siesta sea turtle (all specialty flavors). It ended up costing $17, which felt a bit steep--but honestly, it was huge. Two of us shared it and still couldn't finish. Easily enough for 4 people. The place was packed on a Sunday night around 8:45 PM, just before closing time, so it's clearly a popular spot. If you're craving ice cream and don't mind paying a little extra for a giant treat, it's worth a visit!

a cup of ice cream with a spoon sticking out of it

We have driven by here too many times to count and finally stopped. The menu board is a bit funky and not at all easy to read, but I knew I wanted ice cream with candy, whatever they called it. I think it was called a Spooner. I got a Butterfinger one and they even put a little extra Butterfinger on top. Their ice cream is very good so I think that means the fat content is high. The only thing I didn't like was the styrofoam cup. For me it's a sensory thing and I can't stand the scraping on styrofoam. There are numerous benches where you can sit, and the staff was friendly and efficient.

I go back because the ice cream is good and I love getting a grilled hot dog. However their service is painfully unfriendly and slow.

Great food, awesome beer selection, and love the vibe! Had the dry rub wings today along with a couple hazy's. Excellent! For those posting negative reviews, I urge you to give them another shot. We were there the night they reopened after Hurricane Milton, as it seems were half Lakewood Ranch! It's an understatement to say they were slammed! They were doing the best they could given the circumstances. Yet there was a table close to us that found fault. Give it a friggin rest people! Everyone is entitled to have an "off day", especially after a Cat 4 hurricane rips through your area! Inner Compass didn't have to reopen as quickly as they did. But they did anyway because they were serving a real need. If people don't see that, then that's on them! I've never had a bad meal there. Yes, occasionally service is slow or less attentive but if you look at the wider picture of what's happening in the moment, there's a real, legitimate reason. People, don't just get stuck in your own bubble and actually take time to observe what's going on around you! In the meantime, I plan to go to Inner Compass as often as I can for my ICB Beer Cheese Burgers and Hazy Boys!

Skinny's is exactly what you'd hope for when looking for an afternoon burger joint on the island…read more Lots of outdoor seating, solid service, and very respectable food. The place is a little hole in the wall that gets quite a bit of traffic on the weekends, but we managed to get our food within 15 or so minutes despite the crowd. The food overall was good. Not amazing, not bad, just good. Burgers are easy to do well and hard to do REALLY well, and Skinny's knows this in stride. The burger itself is a fine deal (especially considering tourist prices): $9 for a cheeseburger. However, what put a sour taste in my mouth (metaphorically) was the chicken bites. See that little plate of 5-6 chicken nugget things? Yeah, that was $11. Very tasty, but at $2 a wing, that is truly the ripoff of a century. Overall, Skinny's hits the middle of the road in all aspects: food, ambiance, value. And when other joints are charging an arm and a leg for a decent meal, Skinny's stays true to its roots: a solid burger and fries, a cheap beer, and a full belly for under $20.
