This is why I always enjoy coming back to Shakey's in Downey! First of all, the food is always delicious and never disappoints. I was there on Sunday with my son for the buffet, and the service was excellent. Everybody was on their tippy toes making sure customers had everything they needed. The supervisor was especially amazing -- very attentive and constantly going around to every table asking if we were okay or needed anything. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name, but he truly went above and beyond. The restaurant was very clean, and I also really enjoyed the music. Came in for my free birthday buffet lunch just right after they opened. The place was clean and servers were friendly. I was surprised that all their pizzas were thin crust which I like. They had a great selection. Their fried chicken and mojo potatoes were fresh and hot. If you're craving for pizzas and fried chicken then this will satisfy you. They offer senior and child discounts. We finally decided to give this place a try-- aaannnnd we're never coming back. As we walked in, we get hit with a whiff of shall we say "bathroom aroma". This place was also a mess. Trash everywhere, chairs everywhere.. would've thought a tornado came through the spot. Anyway- We didn't know whether to sit or if we had to order first and then sit. No one was there to guide us or call us over. We finally saw the register and walked over only to be greeted by emo Diana. No smile, no greeting- definitely left a first great impression on us. I decided at this time that maybe the kids should go sit and wait- not wanting them to see this rude mop of depression we'll have to interact with. After all, we promised the babies Shakeys- so at least they won't see the negative interaction. I handed her a coupon for a kid's pizza.. must've been handing it to the wall 'cause she definitely pretended not to see it. I then smiled and said "we have this coupon"- still holding it out to her in the same position. Nothing registered. At a last attempt to kill her with kindness, "see? We have this coupon for a kid's pizza". Finally emo Diana snags the paper out of my hand and continues pressing buttons on her screen. Emo Diana also failed to tell me they had no Coke. No thanks to her, I found out at the soda fountain that they only have Pepsi products. Not the end of the world. I'll just drown it in ice and it'll be okay. Surprise-- there's NO ice! Now I'm maneuvering my unhappy butt, through the trash and chairs, all the way over to our table... 40 minutes later we're still waiting on our pizza. It was a very busy night and did take a little to get our food but the kids were enjoying themselves- and again, very busy night. Justin Hernandez helped us at the register and truly he made the whole night start off right. He was kind, radiating joy, and helpful with the menu. My single biggest mistake since moving to California was thinking it was a good idea to go to Shakey's Pizza Parlor. It was my choice to pick where we ate, so when we drove by a Shakey's I figured "why not give this place a shot, we see them all around the area".....boy oh boy. We came to this location around noon on a Sunday and the place was pretty busy since it was lunch time. One thing I did NOT know about this place is that it's kind of a buffet style situation, which is usually not a great sign for the quality of the food, and in this case, it sure wasn't. After paying for the two of us, we grabbed a plate and got in line to see the spread that was pretty much just a few different styles of pizza, mashed potatoes, fries, fried chicken, meatballs, pasta, and probably some other random stuff I did not bother to try. How was the food you ask? Well, every single thing I ate was worse than what you would get inside of a TV dinner and it was probably some of the worse food I've ever had in the state of California. Overall, Shakey's Pizza Parlor is a place that I will absolutely never visit again and might even gag the next time I drive by one. I placed it around 520pm and barely got it at 6:10am. like seriously. the excuse was they were too busy! a family that came in after me, placed their order inside. I did mine online and they still got it before me!? Ike what the hell! its Saturday night and they said under staff. That isn't my problem! When I placed my order, it said for 15- 20 minutes. It ended up being 40 minutes. I don't appreciate that! When I order my food, I expect the time that I'm waiting the time that it tells me, so I can go get my food. Considering how pricey Shakeys pizza can get, I haven't been to one in years! What brought me in was my sons school fundraiser and I finally was able to get the mojos I've been longing for! Yes it was pricey but as the cashier reminded me, "it's for a good cause". This was the first time I was EXTREMELY impressed with their customer service. I was wowed every time they came to check on us and even came by offering to go boxes. They put the definition of above and beyond. The manager even came to check if everything was good with us. I left shakeys not only satisfied after many years, but impressed with their customer service from the cashier to the moment we left. We placed our order exactly at 5:00 PM. It's now 6:48 PM, and we're still being told "10 more minutes." That's almost two hours of waiting for a simple order, while the restaurant is not busy at all. No apology, no clear explanation, and zero respect for customers' time. Every time we ask, we get the same lazy response as if this is normal. If you can't handle orders or meet reasonable wait times, don't accept them in the first place. Very poor service, bad management, and extremely disappointing experience. This is definitely the last time I order from Shakey's Pizza Parlor, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

The food was good but this location has very incompetent workers and very very rude. Two young workers would make fun of the customers by laughing to each other once walking away and I know this because I saw it twice. This one girl, Michelle, was passing by our table and dropped the food (trash/leftovers) from others people plate onto the bench and the floor right by where I was sitting- she did not mutter a single sorry or an excuse me. I understand accidents happen but she completely just walked away without apologizing. These workers need to get their act together and stop acting immature or have their higher ups talk to him. The manager that was on duty was a male staff and I think I recall his name being Angel where he would just chit chat to the two young workers not doing anything. Went in today on a tuesday and I swear this is the worst location I have ever been too. Where do I start the food was cold tasted like it was reheated 3 days ago. I love the pan pizzas here also the chicken tenders and chicken nuggets I recommend it with honey mustard and BBQ dips. Bunch of lunch buffet left me fulfilled. I always love the family friendly atmosphere. Mojos are & will always be my favorite! Pizza is what they do well. It's not anything you'll brag about but it's yummy enough. The variety is what made me the happiest. I got a slice of each kind available. They restocked promptly. Fried chicken is a little oily for me. Salad was stocked with the usuals. Spaghetti sauce is only heated marinara. I suggest topping the cheese bread rather than the spaghetti. Parking was limited especially for how many seats were vacant. The chairs had sauce all over em so check before you sit. And take my advice SKIP THE RICE, unless you like chewing pebbles. read more

Today I decided to grab shakey's for dinner. Since pico Rivera is closed because of the fire I decided to head to Downey. Ordered small pepperoni pizza w/ half sausage & half pineapple, half mojos & half chicken. When I got my food I received my order wrong pizza was just cheese & pineapple, box of mojos where barely packed. Only 3 pieces of chicken Now if I was at the pico Rivera location I won't have a problem with the half mojos they stack that box good Getting the home the food doesn't taste good & slightly cold, everyone was upset I live less then 10mins away from Shakey's in downy so it should be Smokey hot still I feel like everything was half fast done. Came for lunch buffet on Monday. Came around 11:30 and a few families were there. And no pizza!! Regular manager wasn't there maybe that's why. But they were just super slow. But they were taking special orders from one family and they serve half of the pizza to them. (They got a few pizzas like that.) If they were slow, they should not b honoring special requests. I've recently dined at this location on Friday May 9th for an early mothers day dinner with my family. At the counter we were helped by Justin who was super helpful and gave great suggestions. When we did receive our order however, we were given something different. When we let one of the servers walking around know, and a manager named Diane walked out our order to us and apologized.
