Yay!! So tonight is my first time here!. I ate dinner with friends and it was great! And thank you for the reservations using Yelp no need to wait the table is ready for us before we arrive! Actually the first attempt we went here with my husband but it was an hour and half wait but were in hurry that time so we didn't wait! But now I know about yelp and how good the food here we will definitely wait! For the staff they are attentive and fast to address what we need! The waiting for the food is not that long aside from it was so good! The place is cool looking! We got and Combo A crab leg + shrimp! It is good for two actually It is just a perfect spice and saltiness and the sweetness of the crab legs and shrimp of course it come with rice and perfect with vinegar and butter! This place has a simple menu with basically a custom made seafood boil in a bag with ample portion size and extraordinary taste for each person. This was my first time in this top rated seafood joint and my stomach was happy I decided to give it a try. I liked the fact that they serve the meal with a bib and gloves. The atmosphere looks like the place is tired and worn from the tourist traffic. The booth I sat in was like playing see saw with the person on the other side. They have "graffiti decor" above the chair rail which I felt added to the worn out look of the place. I did like that they have 2 large TVs in the front of the house to watch sports. All the worn out, tired decor aside, the food more than made up for the atmosphere. I got a shrimp w/o heads and crab boil with shaking sauce and medium spice. I highly recommend ordering exactly this meal. All the food was tasted very fresh and the sauce/spice saturate the shrimp potatoes and corn. The meal was served with drawn butter which I enjoyed dipping my crab leg morsels in. I made it a personal challenge to get every last piece of crab meat out of the legs and claws and to clean each leg with the largest pieces possible. 4 stars all for the food and service. The food was great! I was impressed! I'm from New Orleans and I purchased the seafood bag. The only difference I tasted was the garlic butter tasted more watery, but in New Orleans it's real garlic butter. Overall, we had a good experience, we had a very nice waiter, who worked with a wonderful attitude, and prompt service. I would definitely recommend this business. read more

Our waitress was amazing. She was attentive, polite and was pleasant. She was always making sure we were covered. Bathrooms were clean and no odor. I love the option to open the bathroom door with our body or feet. The two men bussing the tables were in top of it and cleaned them off well. They are certainly busy. We arrived on a Sunday right at they opened at noon. By 1pm the entire restaurant was full. The food was great. Piping hot! The sausage was sweet and the corn came right off the cob! Highly recommend Shaking Crab for customer service-- piping hot food regardless of the type of food, every meal was flavorful, number of sauces available and drinks did not go empty. I spent the day in Virginia Beach, working. I planned to drop my rental car off in the evening and take the hotel shuttle to the airport in the morning. So with some time to kill I found this restaurant on, none other than Yelp. I'm always up for Crab, so I figured I couldn't go wrong here, and this time I was right. This restaurant is located in a shopping center. Outside is attractive, but on. Monday evening there's a 30 minute wait. As I said I have time to kill so I'll just wait. As usual I'm alone so I only need a small table. Still have to wait but the 30 minute wait turned into 20 minutes. Yeah. My waiter, a young man is very professional. He explains the menu, and runs off to get my drink. Back with my drink and a vinyl bib. Funny, but he was really nice about it noting that I had a dress shirt and tie on and didn't want me to worry about getting a mess on my shirt. They have snow crab, King Crab, Shrimp, and sometimes Dungenous Crab, but not tonight. I go with the shrimp with corn on the cob. Shrimp was seasoned perfectly. You can pick your heat, I choose medium. All in all a good meal, good service, and a reasonable price. Only issue was that tables are very close so you're basically involved in other people's conversations. And of course the wait but maybe that's a good sign. Ok, I have to get this off my chest. This is not a complaint about the restaurant but about people in general. During my 20 minute wait and all through my meal, all I heard was the expression " Mother F... er". Why is that kind of language necessary? To boot many of these people had little children with them. Is this how millennials talk in public today. Call me old fashioned but that's not for me. Don't see what the restaurant can do about this but it is a turn off. Anyway if you want good Cajun seafood, this could be the place, as long as you can cover your ears through dinner. read more

Friday night 6 pm. We walk in.its packed, we three get a table in 30 seconds. The beers arrive ice cold. Which is good because its 80 plus degrees in this sweatbox. We order king crab plain with sauce on the side, muscles medium and shrimp and crawfish with heads. Bibs all around. We had a great time, or server was swamped but super nice and we waited for nothing. We had hushpuppies for desert. Its busy in here. The takeout line was seven deep and mashed up against people eating dinner. The temp inside i mentioned...not good. Nothing green on the menu. Thats the bad. This place needs to move into the vacant kmart next door. Seriously. Get a bigger venue. Food is fun and great and all but the graffiti and cramped quarter's are a real bummer. read more

I have not see blue crab serve by them even though it is in the menu. But they do have king crab and Alaskan snow crab. We order the combo with shrimp, snow crab, corn, potatoes. We also order 5 lbs of Louisiana sausage. The crab is nice. But some of the shrimp may not as fresh as it can be. Other than that, the good is good. It is wow to first have it on the shaking sauce. But after three shrimps and two leg, the sauce is feel the same. It almost eating some thing that num your tongue. It is lack of alternative taste. The sausage is good. The service give you a bucket to dump the shell. They also give you beep and glove for protection. The glove will keep the sauce away to marinate your fingers. It is a strong sauce. I stumbled across this place. I heard about it, but never knew of their exact location until a Saturday afternoon. I just happen to be in area and I looked up and WOW... oh here is that place! The parking lot was super full. I knew all the people had to be inside, because this restaurant, located near KMart (currently closed) and other shops... It was evident that the Shaking Crab was jumping (packed)! I could see people going in and they were all dressed super casually. I thought this was a fine dining experience, but nope. Well I had time before my appointment elsewhere, so I figured let me order take out (assuming they offered take out). They did... While the wait to dine in was well over an hour, take out orders were being fulfilled within 20 minutes. Cool. I ordered fried shrimp and a side. Inside the restaurant it looks like a backyard party with picnic tables and writings on the wall (literally). I returned within 20 minutes and my order was all set. I had to ask for utensils and napkins... a bib came with the order too - hehehehe! I'm looking at my food... looks yummy! I had about a 20 minute ride to my next destination, no way was this food going to make it that far. So I sat in the parking lot and tried it ... Tasty!! While this wasn't the best fried shrimp ever, they were on point and filling! Breaded just right... I was pleased. Way to go yall!! It's been a little over a month, I haven't returned, but I am so looking forward to returning. I am unsure if they take reservations, but judging at those waiting in the waiting area... this place must be really worth it. And on this day in particular, the weather was nasty. So if the people came out in the rain just imagine a clear sky day. It was about 4 pm... the restaurant was full and those waiting in the waiting area were overflowing outside the restaurant. Wow! This place serves really good steamed shrimp and crabs Creole style. My sister, Gray, who lives about 2 miles from this location recommended this place. My other sister (T) came with me and we ordered the shrimp and crabs combo with corn with all 3sauces Medium, a basket of fried oysters with sweet potato fries and a side of white rice. This was my first time so I did not know what to expect but just checking in I could tell this place was popular as it was full of diners when we checked in just about 2pm. We only waited 10 minutes before we got seated. Our server was very courteous and by the time he came over, we had settled on our orders. When shrimp and crabs combo was delivered in a plastic bag, I could visibly see there were 3 snow crabs, lots of shrimp and 2 corns. It makes sense to have it in the plastic bag so diners could take any leftover home easily. To me, both the shrimp and crabs in that very nice, medium spice sauce the sweetest and tastiest one could expect from a good shrimp and crab. The fried oysters, however, were dry and a bit bland and when I asked the server for roumalade or other sauce he said the oysters did not come with any sauce, which caused a star though had I not ordered the oysters I would definitely have given them 5 stars. Sometimes, sticking to the specialty is best and that's best practice for next visit. Yes, there will be second or more visits if ever I am around this area again. Yes, I recommend wearing the bib because the sauce, while very tasty, was messy. The whole ceremony of breaking the crab legs off or peeling the shrimp was as enjoyable as every bite so don't be scared to get down and dirty...I've had a similar experience at Rustic Inn (FL) with Dungeness Crabs but even that was dipped in overload of butter and I felt guilty for some reason afterwards. Here, the shrimp and crabs had just the right amount of that flavorful Creole sauces and every bite was just as gratifying as the last and best part, I did not feel guilty afterwards so there! We had a large family event 20+ people (many generations). The entire restaurant handled it fantastically. We did not have reservations but they made accommodations. The food all arrived properly cooked and I did not hear a single complaint from anyone about anything going wrong. Believe me that is no small feat for my crew. We had two young servers who I have to admit, when I saw them I was expecting minimal service. I was completely blown away by their mature attitude and true desire to serve. I've been here a couple times and each time the food was really good! You can always tell how good crab is cooked by how hard it is to get it out of the shell. If it slides out, it's perfect. If it's hard to get out, then it's overcooked. I've never had a problem with their crab being overcooked. I love the shaking sauce in medium! The soft shell crab was also really good and perfectly cooked. I like how the waitstaff is attentive but also kind of leaves you alone while you eat. I hate when I'm out eating and have to stop talking every 5 minutes to say "no we're fine" Our waitress asked us if we needed anything when we first got our food... then about 10 mins later she cane back and asked if everything was still good. Then she let us eat. I think it's important to be able to read the table and know if we need you or not. Their waitstaff does a good job of this. The only thing I did have an issue with every single time is the corn. It's overcooked. I had the combo with clams and mussels - it had a lot of mussels, but nearly half of my clams were empty. I chose the garlic butter seasoning - they seemed to add a liberal amount of Old Bay to it, and it was a bit too salty for me. My little had the fried catfish basket. The food here is really good and I do love coming with my family, however, you just better make sure to come at least an hour to an hour and a half before closing because of the specific location they like to pick and choose when they want to go home. So you might walk in at 9 o'clock. On a Sunday and their kitchens are closed Despite the fact their website says 930. And don't get me wrong. The service is usually pretty great. And I would totally understand if I came in five minutes before they closed but a whole 30 minutes. Just seems a little ridiculous to already have the entire kitchen shut down. Sadly, this has become one of my new spots whenever I go to the beach. I say sadly because it tastes too good to be good for you. I can't speak to the crabs because I am allergic. However, the steamed oysters, scallops, clams, corn, and new/red potatoes in the bag with the Cajun Garlic seasoning is pure bliss and addicting. First we were a little skeptical given there was no wait...lol all the crab boil places I've been, the lines are wrapped around the building and at least a 45 minute wait! Well not here!! We were in and seated immediately...& to my surprise the food was great! I ordered a order of hush puppies. These yummy pieces of heaven were everything! Next I ordered a bag boil that consisted of snow crab legs, shrimp, potatoes and this yummy corn. I opted for the medium seasoning and all the ingredients. DELICIOUS!! Next time I'll just go hotter lol. My hun bun on the other hand just ordered the fried shrimp with sweet potato fries and his order was delicious as well. Staff were friendly...& we will definitely be frequenting this spot!
