What a delicious dinner filled with spices and different flavors! This restaurant was recommended by my son's Indian friend. He loves good food and Shalimar is his favorite Indian restaurant. So we tried all his recommended dishes and more. CHICKEN KOFTA-this wasn't what I expected. Large tender chicken meatballs in a savory sauce. MURGH BOTI TANDOORI-grilled chicken was tender and well seasoned. SEEKH KABAB MURGH/MUGHLAI-well seasoned ground meat kabobs. SAAG GOSHT-this savory lamb and spinach stew was a family favorite. CHICKEN KARAHI-spicy chicken stew full of different spices was delicious with rice. SHALIMAR CHAWAR-very fragrant basmati rice. NAAN-soft, fluffy bread perfect with all the sauces. The flavor of the meat was out of this world. Like nothing I've ever had anywhere else, and I wish they were close enough to visit often! Since we happen to go on a Friday evening, though we ordered online, the wait was a little long, but the food was worth it. Service was reasonable. ambience was OK. I'm not sure if this is affiliated with the Shalimar in SF (I think it is but I'm not sure). We got take out from here although the restaurant is pretty large despite relatively bare bones decor. You order and pay and then I think the food comes out to you. We ordered some of the grilled meats, a tikka paneer. All dishes were very flavorful and the bread that it comes with is both soft and chewy and crispy. Would definitely come back. read more

"Tasty Curry, Spartan, not Award-Winning Service." This restaurant is popular with the locals. Most evenings you will find lots of people seated in the plain dining room, or milling around, waiting for their order. The dining room is larger than you might think from outside. It's plain--if you've ever eaten in a hospital cafeteria, you'll get the idea. Except here, there's hardly any nurses or surgeons dining. The prices are moderate and the food is tasty. I have tried both the chicken marsala curry as well as the lentil curry. I thought the chicken marsala was excellent, but the lentil was not impressive. I thought it to be a blah dish. The serving sizes are not large. One of their moderate sized to-go containers will feed two scrawny people like me, or perhaps 1/2 a teenage boy. On my first visit, the server threw in a free order of naan bread, but one normally has to pay extra for rice as well as the naan bread. I tried to trick the server into throwing in another free order of bread, but he didn't fall for that. This restaurant will likely not win awards for friendly service. It's pretty brusque and impersonal. On one visit my food was delivered in seconds. On my second visit I had to wait quite a while, along with other customers. We sat in the primitive dining room and gazed thoughtfully at the ceiling. The food is prepared beforehand, so you can't reduce the spiciness. Keep in mind most of the food is moderately spicy-- a little too spicy for my taste. So overall, a mixed experience. I suspect there are better local alternatives. read more

Been meaning to try this place for awhiles now and my roommate was finally curious too so we took the plunge and tried this place out. And overall, it's a solid experience so basically a 3.5 out 5 rounded up to four. At least to me at first glance the outside it looks a hole on the wall and upon entering it still gives off that same vibe imo. It's basically a no frills place to eat if you eat there. When we entered we were the only ones in there and it's surprisingly pretty big in there and looks like it can host a big party inside or most likely several groups of people or small families since they have some large tables set up back to back or they had some booths to sit in. Anyways, the cashier was pretty friendly overall and took our order without any hiccups or complaints, since this was a new experience when I ordered the naan, I originally ordered 1 order of naan thinking it'll be like 2 to 3 with the order, but he explained it was 1 per order which at the time seemed to be a tad off but we did learn when we got our food it was a plate size naan, we ended ordering 2 pieces of naan btw. And I definitely didn't like when the cashier didn't even offer a printed receipt of our order, I'll admit he did start out with writing down our order but he then punched it in on the cash register/credit card reader, so slight knock here. Overall, all the food was good but not great, the naan smelled great in the car filling our car with garlic smells, but when we got home it was a tad hard and wasn't fluffy like other similar places carry. The chicken biryanis was another solid dish, the dish itself was good overall hitting the right flavors and chicken was pretty yummy in it too, but it did seem somewhat dry and the rice itself wasn't fluffy like it was fresh, to me it was more like day old rice so it had a fried rice sort of texture. The proportions of the goat and chicken masala were decent to maybe slightly above average but there were a decent amount of oil left of top of both servings. The goat meat was good, a tad chewy but within range but still most of it was very stew like meat which is good. But in the order there were a lot of bones in it and I know it's going to happen due to the nature of the dish but there definitely seem to be almost like an equal ratio of meat to bone, so while this dish can hit the spot if craving goat or something warm, to me the cost of what you get and what you buy isn't there. And lastly the chicken tikka masala was good but nothing to talk about...but lastly all this food including tip was basically $60..so I'll leave you to decide if it seemed to be a good deal or not or whether you want to try this place out yourself. read more

I came from West Coast visiting family. They picked me up from airport and asked, you're hungry ? we are going to place has a good food. They call Shalimar .on our way home. We stopped in Livermore section as soon as I walked in I was very tired and I haven't had sleep for 20 hours And 10 hours flight my head where spinning .slowly I see and look around and realize that place is dirty , filthy you cannot imagine and we did order some chicken tandoori, and I believe was chicken biryani. The chicken was raw. It was blood running, and the biryani was horrible . I took the chicken going to the counter. The cashier or the manager did not say apologize not say sorry nothing and they bring it back and I returned it. I ordered an Uber Eats on June 22 2025 and it cost me $18.00 but Uber Eats charged me $16.58 on June 23 2025! Have called my card and disputed the transaction, please be careful with your money when ordering through Uber eats! I love the Fremont shalimar and this branch did not disappoint as well. We picked up some food for our camping trip to Mt Diablo. Got some of our usual favorites- chicken kofta curry and chicken seekh kebab. Pakistani food tends to be flavor packed without intense spices which cause an upset tummy. The koftas were soft and soaked up all the flavor from the gravy. The gravy was unforgivably greasy though. I used a slice of bread to soak up the extra grease. read more

This restaurant has it's employees work in dangerous health conditions, it is badly ventillated, and cooking oil fumes are proven to cause lung cancer and other issues. If you work here, PLEASE read up on the health effects and find a new job. Every time I pass by, I can smell the fumes from yards away, and at busy hours, you can smell the oil from across the street. I can not imagine how anyone could spend an entire day working there. Not the cleanest of restaurants, but none of that matters once you taste the food. Personally I don't go to the Fremont location cause it's even less clean, but the Dublin location isn't bad. The restaurant is disgusting, I don't think I have ever seen a place that handles food be this gross. From the floor, walls, tables, benches, basically every inch of this place is covered in black built up residue.. Shalimar is a strip mall restaurant with no frills service, a rustic atmosphere, and seriously authentic Pakistani food. It's a community gathering place of sorts, with waiters and customers conversing in Urdu and a recording of sounds from a mosque playing in the background. To start, I had the Murgh Tikka Lahori, a butterflied chicken breast lightly marinated in spices and cooked in a tandoori oven; and the Seekh Kebab Murgh, made of ground chicken mixed with spices and cooked over charcoal. Both of these meats were slightly dry but served with a yogurt herb chutney, which added a creamy, herbaceous acidity. A deliciously comforting and simple vegetable dish was the Palak Aloo Methi, a Punjabi dish made of spinach leaves cooked with fenugreek and potato, and the mixture was soft, earthy, and perfectly spiced. But my favorite dish of all was the Goat Karahi, made of chunks of bone-in goat cooked with spices and herbs in an onion-tomato gravy. The chunks of goat were meaty, tender, and gelatinous, and the spiced gravy went nicely with the Naan-A-Akbar, a huge round of chewy unleavened flatbread made of white flour that was perfect for eating with the other dishes! read more

I went to this location few times, because I like the food in Fremont, since it is close to my work so let's try it out. I have discovered service from the top manager to whoever work in the kitchen did not know any knowledge of customer service, I have so much experience trying all deference food around the Bay Area any nations and country , but have never seen such a rude bad behavior in my whole life, look like the guy at register fight with you no smile or welcome at all. You spend your money not only for food , you want to be welcome to the restaurant, but you don't see any welcome from these guys. They really need to work on their both locations it is very nasty and unprofessional people . They only know how to collect money that is all..I would have never recommended to anyone and never support this place again . To me food is not only the reason to go out .. Furthermore, the cashier who is ringing people up (although not handling money) is not wearing a mask and packaging naan with his bare hands. Please be more hygienic. Your customers will appreciate it! Food is good (and service has been okay) but now we are hesitant with the lack of hygiene especially during times when hygiene is of utmost importance. If it was about service, I would give this place 2 stars, but because I am thick skinned and a tough cookie I can deal with the long wait time and rude service for some amazing Tandoori Chicken lol. I must say, the tandoori chicken is so tasty. It is made with love! I can feel it! I ordered chicken and a beef kabob that's was seasoned well. I also had the paneer masala and it was just okay. I think I got like 4 pieces of paneer in the whole container. Since I am watching my carbs this week I did not get any naan. I think I would have enjoyed the masala more while dipping some naan in it. If you want some amazing Tandoori Chicken and can deal with a long wait, order ahead and make your way here. I used to visit Shamilar every now and then but my last experience was very bad. I found PLASTIC in the curry and when I showed it to the owner, he served me another plate and interestingly it had plastic in it again and with some hair this time. The owner said plastic is common as sometimes the chef forgets to remove the plastic and it's ok to remove it from the curry and eat it. And weirdly also said "why does it happen only to you and not others". I asked didn't you just say that plastic is common which means other customers might have complained about it in the past. To which he said "yes, but it didn't happen back to back for the same customer". So he was blaming it on me rather than trying to understand the seriousness of the issue. This is NOT acceptable at all. The owner didn't charge me for the curry item though but I think people should be aware of this incident. read more

Not a huge fan of Indian food but my aunt was craving it so last minute family dinner. Came with a party of 13 on a Monday night. Free parking lot. Very spacious inside and think their maximum capacity sign read 100. So you order at the front and grab your own plates/utensils. They have complimentary water and chai tea (self-serve)! You add your own sugar and stuff so it kinda tasted like a light milk tea. Anyway, my cousin's husband did all the ordering so the dishes' names might not be accurate (sorry) but we had chicken meatballs, lamb brain, chicken tikka masala, beef kabob, Tandoori leg, lamb curry, goat meat, rice & naan. The food was okay in terms of flavor; a little too heavy for me. They had this light green sauce that was kind of tasty (think it's a mix of yogurt/cucumber/cilantro, not 100% sure).
