Shaloha is as good as it gets for good Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food in Hawaii! This is where to go to get your yummy healthy fix. This place was recommended by my super healthy boss who bought some hummus from them at a farmer's market and wanted to share the love by catering lunch for the office...Score! For catering, orders have to be placed 24hrs in advanced. We were hoping to pick up around 10am the next day, but found out they opened at 10:30am. They were willing to have the order ready by 10:30am for us. Very easy to find location across from St. Louis School. Shaloha makes and bakes their pita bread fresh daily right there. As you step into the shop you can see the pita machine. This is a very small place, most of the space is dedicated to kitchen, to-go only, no sitting and dining. The staff were still working on order at 10:30 and the owner gave us some fresh bread and humus while we waited. We had a good time speaking with the owner and staff. We ordered one and a half full orders of the Shaloha Tasting Menu where one full order ($108.14) includes: 10 half-pita shwarma sandwiches; 10 half-pita schnitzel sandwiches; 6 half-pita eggplant sandwiches; 30 falafel balls; half pound side of hummus; 2 lbs of pita chips; three sauces (tahini, Amba, and their signature hot sauce); white cabbage; Isreali salad; and mediterranean style rice. Serves 9-12. No matter how you make your plate, you know that every bite will be tasty goodness. The falafel had perfect crunchiness. Pita chips were huge. The hummus was creamy and went well with everything. The salad is healthy, but oh so good. Yum yum in my tum tum. You don't have to sacrifice taste for being healthy. I've lived near Glendale in SoCal and have had my share of good authentic Mediterranean food, Shaloha reminds me of that. Holy moly, I wish this place was close to my work for it would be a place I would frequently have lunch. I have only had the falafel pita and omg it's enough two fill two of me. The pita bread is so fresh and delicious on its own, plus the pita just makes it a crunchy soft heaven. Oh, and plus plus, their spicy sauce is incredible. The spicy is a red sauce that definitely has a quick to and has a light smokiness to it. To add another plus the owner is incredibly friendly. I still have some tasting memory of it. My bf and I ordered 2 different types of sandwich with the combo. Shawarma sandwich with 2 sides: falafel and tabouleh - grilled chicken with their special sauce. Tasted like curry and veggies in it. My bf didn't like the tabouleh in it. Tabouleh was pretty strong. I think the basil? Falafel was crispy...soo good, it's like curry balls. Chicken Schnitzel with 2 sides: falafel and hummus - Fried chicken with veggies inside a pita bread. It tasted okay. Pretty good for what it is. Which is pretty much a take out place although it would be nice to be dine in. It's not much to look at from the outside. The counter seating and stools are awkward and limited. But the food is good. Wish they had some lamb on the menu. I had the shaloha plate which gives you a little of everything. Schnitzel, falafel, kinda a chopped chicken, turmeric rice. Hummus taboule, Israeli cucumber salad, and two types of cabbage salad. Everything was tasty. The hummus was a bit too smooth, no parsley in the falafel which is just what I'm probably used to but everybody makes things a little different. It was well cooked and tasty. I like the food here, it's bomb. My complaint is about hygiene. When I picked up food here the other day, I observed the cashier going forth and back between prepping food and operating the register all with the same pair of gloves on, it was disgusting! The skinny: Decent little hole in the wall (in our limited experience). We had been meaning to get over hear to try this place, and when we arrived, we weren't even sure we had found the right spot. It's nestled in a little strip mall and just doesn't look like much. It actually is possible to eat inside (though on stools at a 'bar' style counter), but this is more like a storefront takeout place than a restaurant. A quick look at the simple menu indicated that it might be a little pricey (imo) for this kind of food. I think it would have been had we gone the pita/sandwich route and ordered sides to complement. But the server suggested the Shaloha combo plate, and that was quite the deal. For $15, we got a taste of (almost?) everything they offer and in a generous enough quantity to feed the two of us. It helped that it was tasty. We added a lemonana (a sort of lemon, banana, mint beverage); it was refreshing, though it could have been slightly stronger and sweeter for my taste. Since we ordered only one entree, this turned out to be more of a value than expected. They have little parking in that tiny strip mall lot. Otherwise, I'm assuming you're looking for street parking. Service (such as it was) was friendly and helpful. Bottom line: I'd eat hear again -- and likely order the Shaloha combo again. :-) read more

Discovered this place on Yelp! It is located across from Chaminade University there are other shops/eateries all inside the small parking lot. This place has delicious, authentic, Mediterranean food. They make the pita by scratch! You must try the pita chips they are unlike anything I've had before. The dough is fried to the perfect consistency for a chip but not too much so that it becomes too hard and falls apart, it's like eating a zeppole without the sugar. So yum!! I ordered the falafel pita, it is huge!! It can easily be shared by 2 people. It is stuffed with delicious red and white cabbage, tabulee salad, and 8 falafel balls! It was very filling and had a nice combination of flavor profiles. The falafel was cooked nicely and wasn't dry. It also comes with three different dipping sauces, a tahini sauce, a spicy sauce, and one more tasted like a curry. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate for my hubby, again the portion sizes are huge! There aren't a whole lot of places in Hawaii that you can get falafel at and it is even more rare to find any of quality. I have a few problems with Shaloha but I won't deny that they have my personal favorite falafel on the island. It is actually almost to the point of being over fried as it comes out so crispy that it overwhelms the filling inside of it. But honestly, that's exactly how I like it. I dislike that they refuse to serve the lamb plate except on Fridays even though they will still serve you the lamb wrap. I'm not sure how that makes sense. They also have fairly good pita bread, which you can buy in bulk packages if you are looking to take some home. This seems to be a fairly popular item. Overall, Shaloha has a very limited menu. For most mediterranean food I definitely prefer da spot or olive tree, but if I am looking specifically for falafel, Shaloha is "A-OK". read more

Shaloha PITA has become one of my weekly stops as of late because I've started making my own chicken shawarma at home for my husband and their pita bread brings it all together! A wonderful slow roasted chicken served with the pillowy soft pita bread from Shaloha PITA has easily become his favorite meal so I've been making it non-stop! In addition to feeding my husband, my children are also totally addicted to the pita bread as well. I usually make pita bread sandwiches stuffed with salami or ham and cheese for their school lunches. I buy two bags of pita bread at a time for $15 and it barely lasts us the week. The pita bread is baked fresh daily, so if you don't use it the day you buy it, you need to freeze it since they don't use preservatives. Whenever I use the bread I just stick it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds wrapped in a wet paper towel. It comes out perfect and ready to be eaten! read more

I ordered a Falafel plate. Its comes with turmeric rice, and all the salads red cabbage, white cabbage, tabulee , Israeli salad (pardon spelling )6 pcs of falafel and a glob (in good ways) of hummus. While I could do without the rice it's so worth the $15. I cannot finish it and it only looks like I ate the falafel. The hummus is really good, my kids even enjoyed it.
