I've heard tremendously of Shaloha and when I got my food, it definitely did not disappoint! By far, Shaloha is one of my favorite Mediterranean restaurants on Oahu, and the influx of people at all hours is a testament to their incredible food. FOOD: Shaloha really knows how to fulfill your stomach. I ordered the Shaloha Plate with a side of pita chips & hummus (free with student ID). The Shaloha Plate is the perfect way to be introduced to what Shaloha has to offer as it has a little of everything on their menu: meat, eggplant, falafel, different kinds of cabbage, hummus, saffron rice, and pita bread on the side. Even though this was $15, it was definitely worth the price as I ate this for nearly 3 meals. The food is heavy, so a small amount will fill you up no time, even though you're dying to eat more because of how good it is. I was so happy I could make the meal last over a day because I was always looking forward to the next time I could eat it -- a true sign of an award winning meal. SERVICE: Incredible. There were only two people working there when I visited, one in the front taking orders and one in the back cooking food. The cashier in the front was so patient and kind with me as I was a first-timer at Shaloha. After giving me her recommendations, I ordered the Shaloha Plate based on her recommendations and it was exactly what I was looking for. Shaloha is conveniently located on Waialae Ave. across Chaminade and has a small parking lot so if you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in!! I've been craving schnitzel for a while now and it's hard to find any on Oahu. We read about this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. We each got the schnitzel pita and since my boyfriend is allergic to sesame seeds they accommodated him with other sauce options, which was great! It was amazing! The chicken was nice and juicy and we got a side of the white cole slaw and the cucumber side. The cole slaw was so refreshing and tasted crisp and fresh! Since we checked in there on yelp, we got a free drink! Definitely check in and get that drink! It's a lemonade ginger drink that is probably super unhealthy because of all the sugar, but it was a nice surprise for such a warm day! It's take out only so we ate on the chairs outside. I found Shaloha at the Saturday ward farmers market (8a-12) where I tasted the best pita I've had in my life - I now buy a pack every single week. So two days later I had to check out the restaurant. Heads up, it's just a takeout place so don't expect to eat at a table, though there is a bench outside. I'd actually recommend just eating there or in your car because you won't want to wait. I tried out the falafel, shawarma, and the schnitzel along with the pita chips and was blown away. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the falafel but you'll be happy with any of them. These pitas were STUFFED with goodness and you won't be able to stop eating the warm pita chips - think fried up pita bread rather than just chips. Best pita and hummus in Kaimuki and most likely on island. Then again, that is just a small taste of heaven compared to the other menu items. The Shaloha plate is filled with amazing flavors from their pickled red cabbage, green cabbage, cucumber salad, eggplant, falafel, rice, hummus, etc. Honestly, the plate could have lasted about 2 meals for me. The side of pita dipped in the perfectly ground hummus is enough to put me in food heaven. The parking is a bit limited. Since the small lot is shared with L & L, Subway, a laundromat and a florist, it might be best to go early, circle the block or try to park on the side street. The customer service was ok. There were two young ladies there who seemed busy with take out orders. All in all, this place is a MUST!! I do wish they were able to get some crisp edges though, like the very finest sharwarma joints do but perhaps it requires the full spinning meat log, and here I suspect they make due with ovens. I don't know why I never came here before! I love Mediterranean food and I don't live too far from here, so I decided to finally give this place a try, and I'm so glad I did! Honestly how the heck did I go SO LONG without trying Shaloha PITA!? I have so many regrets. They seriously know their stuff and everything just seems so?? Authentic?? Not that I would know, but everything just gives off a good, full, home-y vibe in a sense. It's just good food that's probably pretty good for you. The price, although I thought was steep at first, is HONESTLY worth it with how much food you get. Those plates are heavy!!! I can't believe. If you're a small eater, it can probably last you about three meals. In ways I wish it were more flavorful, but I think I just have to get used to the flavors of this culture and how they all come together. I really feel like I tried new things, and it was so exciting! The yogurt sauce was really interesting, and the turmeric too. I've just never seen that before, and I'm soo for it. I got the plate where you can try a bit of everything, and I think my ONLY regret is not getting a side of pita chips, even though I was full as heck and didn't finish my food. So good. Shaloha PITA has amazing portions and service. It's a small restaurant, or rather best for take out as there is just limited counter seating. Sometimes I feel it's hard to find different types of cuisine here in Hawaii and I'm glad I explored and got to try this place out. I always love mediterranean food and was told by my Israel friend this spot is authentic. I noted that some fellow yelpers mentioned about their menu items being pricey. Yes, one Shaloha plate is $15, but for the amount of food they provide, it's reasonable. It can be easily shared by 2 people. The plate is served with side of falafel, tabuleh, huumuus, rice and 2 pita breads. Everything is seasoned well and the yogurt sauce is very complimentary to the meal. There are couple counter table tops at the store if you want to enjoy the food there, but most purchased their food for take-out. Service is on point the evening I went, but I can see a big order can create a backlog for such a small place. The shaloha plate came with shrama chicken, snitzel chicken, hummus, white & red slaw, chopped vege in yogurt sauce, yellow rice, grilled eggplant & 2 pitas & 3 sauces (curry, hot sauce, yogurt) I really really love their hot sauce so I asked for 2 more. We really enjoyed our meals. Don't know what seasoning were used but everything is just so tasty. The young lady at the counter was friendly & welcoming. We didn't know what we were going to get, so we were given a generous portion of shawarma to try out. I ended up getting the chicken schnitzel plate. It came with generous amounts of sides. The chicken was perfectly cooked, but I wish it had had more taste. The pitas were okay. Because of the large serving sizes, you could easily break the plate down into two meals. Given the price that makes the food more reasonable. This time I didn't get the pita chips. I love their pita chips. You'll love them too. read more

First bite into my chicken schnitzel sandwich left me wanting more! There is so much flavor stuffed into this pita sandwich, and the veggies are so fresh giving it that crunch you need. Don't even get me started on that sauce of theirs. It is so refreshing and light, I can't believe I've been missing out on Shaloha for so long! I also tried a few bites of my friend's falafel sandwich and although I liked it too, I just loved how bomb their chicken was seasoned. This was a generously sized sandwich, but I was still able to gobble it all down because I loved it that much. For being such a small food establishment they sure crank out high quality noms. The girls working here are friendly, and you know they work hard to make sure you leave happy. Being a student, I was able to score a free side of pita chips and hummus, yay! There's really nothing bad I can say about this place except for that I thought the hummus was kind of bland, otherwise I loved the creaminess of it. Also it might get a little hot in here because there was no a/c. Not sure if they just turned it off. They also have a loyalty program, buy 10 entrees and get a free item! First time back in a while (living in my bubble) and they did not disappoint !! I ordered the chicken schnitzel pita today (my regular order) as it is THE BEST chicken sandwich on the planet. Juicy and crispy schnitzel in a locally made pita bread (not like the crap pita breads that were made on the mainland and shipped frozen and thawed out here). Pillowy thick bread with excellent snap and stretch. A massive portion of schnitzel interspaced with an equally huge volume of fresh marinated veggies (red cabbage, white cabbage, cucumbers, onions, parsley). Fried chicken generally gets low marks from the 'health gurus', but this one should get a pass due to its minimal breading, lack of skin, and being surrounded by massive quantities of crispy fresh veggies. The place is super safe for Covid avoidance as they have now blocked the door with a cash register where you order and pick up. And some very friendly and efficient staff running the place. I tried Shaloha many years ago and enjoyed my experience, but recently brought my mom here for dinner. She absolutely loved it and wants to go back already (it's only been a few days since we went!). Food: I was eyeing the shaloha plate and decided to share it with mom. It was huge - enough to feed the both of us, with leftovers. I recommend this plate for those who want a taste of everything. It was my first time trying falafel and it was so tasty. I also really enjoyed the tabouleh salad and hummus. Not to mention the pickled vegetables they served were also delicious. With my order I also got free pita chips and hummus on the side because I am a student! How awesome is that? The chips were freshly made from their pita bread - perfectly fried and seasoned. PRO-TIP: you can actually buy packages of their pita bread in-store! Service/Ambiance/Price: Service was extremely friendly! The owner was there and he is so kind and appreciative. As a local Boy who lived in Manhattan, I came to love falafel in the city. Shaloha is as good as the best of them. Places like Mamoun's Falafel and Taim are arguably the best falafels in NYC. Huge fan of essentially everything here, it is a bit pricy with the recent increases but there are good portions. I love the eggplant dishes the most and highly recommend grabbing an extra pack of pita to take home and throw in the freezer just to have on hand. As other people have said, the parking lot is not amazing, and if it looks busy just park in the neighborhood. The plate is a pretty good size, and maybe the best bang for buck.
