You don't have to fight for the good parts!), Grilled Artichoke (also good to share because it has so much flavor, and you might overdose on the dipping sauce), and The Three Bones (do NOT share you NEED all 3 ribs!). Save your money and go somewhere else. I ate here because it was close to my hotel. I ordered the rockfish. The fish came out way over cooked and super over seasoned. It came with mashed potatoes and veggies. The vegetables were edible, but the mashed potatoes tasted as if the top of the pepper shaker fell off and the whole jar fell in. Absolutely horrible, one of the worst meals I have ever had. When my sever asked how the food was I politely told him my concerns. His response was" you ordered fish at a BBQ place' what did you expect?" Incredible! They need to revamp their menu, fire the cook and the server / bartender who served me. I enjoyed the atmosohere, the food is really good and prepared as ordered. They have a great selection of various beers, ales and lagers. I especially liked the hard pear cider. The wait staff are friendly and courteous. I highly enjoyed everything that i ordered, my husband, my son and my 2yr old daughter also enjoyed eatting here. I am from out of town and travel quit a bit, so I found know a little about eating out. Our night started with a waitress with a bad attitude, who acted like it was just so much trouble to take our order. And it went Down hill from there. Anytime she came to our table she had her cell phone in hand and paid more attention to it, then us who were as a paying customer? So, you can probably guess how much of a tip I left. And I am normally a really good tipper. As for our food... My husband had the prime rib and what he got was laughable, for his vegetable he got one, yes one, little piece of broccoli and a small bowl of potatoes with cheeses in it, then the prime rib itself was what he called nothing special and small in size. And...when he asked the waitress for some au jus sauce she said " we don't bring it unless you asked? Isn't that what he was doing? And when she brought the sauce it was a watered down bar bque sauce. My daughter in law had the tri tip steak and. Her steak consisted of 3 very thinly shaved pieces of meat about 4 inches long? How is this a tri tip steak? My sons order was just as bad he had the pulled beef sandwitch witch should have been called just a bun. A good quality BBQ steakhouse with some killer ribs. I got the Pork ribs and they were cooked perfectly. I have to say I was disappointed with my chicken wings and my mac and cheese. The chicken wings had this hot BBQ sauce on them that wasn't a personal favorite of mine. Then again I do hate BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese was a surprising disappointment. I am a HUGE fan of Mac and cheese especially in steakhouses because of their southern recipes. This Mac and cheese was a different story. The Noodles were fine but the cheese was the real problem. I don't know what happened to it but it was more of a soup than anything. The cheese wasn't clinging to the noodles so I had to use a spoon to taste any of it. If your in the area this place great for a good time. I would advise to skip the wings and Mac and cheese. Their is one thing that is really cool in this restaurant. Shamus T Bones will wet your palette with a true flavor of barbecue and an atmosphere that at times may make you feel like you are out in the wild with the many overhead hangings on the walls of the wild animals captured and mounted. As we set at a window table and looked out at the Eureka Bay I was reminded of how beautiful this area can be. You will find that the food is of good quality and taste with your choice of their own barbecue sauce, regular or hot. Their cornbread muffins are cooked to perfection and come with the meal. I ordered the beef brisket with fries and a salad. The beef brisket was excellent and the fries were crisp and fresh. For an extra $1.99 you can get a side salad. It is the same salad that you would get from the salad bar would cost you a $5.99 if ordered separately. The beef brisket plate was $19.99 and well worth it. Great food overall. Came here for my birthday dinner with my husband. I had pulled pork sandwich and it was absolutely delicious! My husband had the burger with a salad and it was tasty as well. My server, was very fast and tentative. Giving only 4 stars because my mashed potatoes were like soup and had no flavor. I had to salt them myself. I have had a bad time here consistently since it opened in eureka. I have never not had a problem, yet nothing extraordinarily discrediting until today until I went for happy hour. The food was overpriced and bland (just poor quality), very mediocre. Measured shots- lame. All of that was fine, we just wanted a beer and some snacks. It was not until the bartendress who was not even waiting on went out of her way to just be nasty. Not once, but twice. My food was cleared without asking before I got to finish it (obviously trying to 'turn and burn' us) and our bill was wrong to the tune of 15$ or so. The male bartender saved the day who was professional and tried to keep us happy, which is the reason I'm giving two stars. 4 of us visited here for an anniversary celebration. We were expecting a great meal and very willing to pay for it. Our dinner was very good. We started with really good onion rings. Then we had steaks, ribs and their Cowboy Hamburger. All were excellent along with the salad bar. But we had lousy service. And I didnt expect that. Our server (Miranda I think) kept making one excuse after another. I guess our first mistake was not ordering anything from the bar. She said she would be back with some muffins and the sodas we ordered. Brought our sodas and went to the next table and said it was going to be a 15 min wait because the muffins just went in the oven. ???? 2 of us sent the clam chowder back twice because it wasn't even luke warm. She actually told us she had no control over that, she just takes what the kitchen staff give her to serve. We asked for water refills, didn't get them. The table next to us asked if he could get the beer he ordered and she told him the bar was backed up. It wasn't. We finished our meal and wanted to order dessert for our anniversary but she placed the tag on the table and turned around so quickly we didn't think it was worth it. If you love barbeque, don't come here. Granted they had just opened in their new location about a week before we went there for dinner, but really? So 4 out of 5 of us ordered various combos of either brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and the 5th (let's just call him "Lucky") ordered a burger. (the 2 item combos are $25 I think, and the 3 item is $27?) Our server was nice enough, if a bit frantic, she dropped some warm cornbread muffins (with a freaking cereal bowl of butter pats) and they were nice & warm & sweet, but things went downhill steeply! After way too long a wait, she brought these 10" dinner plates out with pretty measly portions of meat and some really bad sides - I'm talking not even edible. How about baked potatoes that were baked maybe Thursday or Friday; we were there on Sunday. Grilled corn on the cob that was grilled the day before and served dead cold. Or what about 3/4 cup of mashed potatoes that tasted like steam table, etc. OK the sides sucked and were all pretty cold, but you're there for the barbeque, right? How should I do it? In order of how bad it was? Chronologically? In order of temperature? Decreasing or Increasing? By weight or volume? OK, how about alphbeticaly? First off, the servings are tiny. Like I mentioned above, the plates are small (10"), and 3 servings of meat and 2 sides didn't fill it up, so you do the math. Not only are the servings tiny, but....... Brisket- It was bland, tough, dry and cold. Chicken- It was cooked as long as the brisket shoulda been, maybe longer, but it was dryer than a rice cake but not as tasty. It had the texture of calf's liver, and was served at room temperature. Pork Ribs- They were dry, under-seasoned, and cold. Pulled Pork - It was under-seasoned, under-cooked and kinda fatty & gross. I had the fresh local oysters and a grilled artichoke, another of our party has 1/2 order of ribs, another the rib eye steak and the fourth member of our party had baked fresh oysters, caesar salad and an artichoke. We ordered drinks prior to dinner and they were good with a decent amount of alcohol in each. After a fun meal our waiter brought a dessert tray around the table. We ordered two selections, the warm brownie with ice cream on the side and cheesecake. The portions were just ample enough to share. Our table of 10 was set in a weird corner table that made it so the people at the end had no access to be able to talk to the people in the corner of the booth. Our appetizers were good, great even. But the service was honestly terrible, and three of the dinners were under cooked (one of them being chicken). We had to go to the bar to get our own beers at one point. When we got inside..there was nobody in site..all there was is a SMALL sign inside that says...seat yourself in the lower diner, so we did. we were there for 5 mins nobody even cared. The bartender seen us...ignored us....when the waitress seen us.{being very nice}handed us the menu, when i asked her about the BRUNCH...she had no idea what we were talking about....i said the sign outside says BRUNCH...she says she has no idea what the sign says. She goes outside to read the perma sign in the front of the building...and says..ii'm sorry that sign is outdated. I opted for a BBQ chicken salad.it was literally BBQ chicken pieces - which were pretty tasty - on lettuce with some cherry tomatoes. Some goat cheese came on the side (why in the side? No clue) as well as 2 dressings on the side. Thank god I added some avocado. Yawn. Pork tacos were pretty nasty, as was the half rack of lamb. Soggy broccoli sides. Service was nice but had no clue about food allergies and what ingredients were in the food. My partner and I decided to try out Shamus again, and we loved it! We must have ordered the wrong things last time (bbq platter, Mac and cheese), because everything was delicious and perfect this time around. Things seemed to start out good. We had a 10 min wait for out our table and grabbed a beer and tried infused vodka (bacon and jalapeño) which was cool. We got our table and our server was a bit new and uneasy with talking to us, but that is cool. We ordered and I got the smoked brisket and others got the baby back ribs and one got the burger. Food finally arrived and looked good but the plate with brisket had like water on it. Taking my first bite, the meat was tender and there was a small smoke ring but then it tasted like the meat had been boiled--like the meat in soup. I then ordered another beer that never showed and our waitress came around a couple times but wasn't really there. We were disappointed in the brisket and service, however, the saving grace and reason for two verses one star were the ribs. The ribs were cooked nicely and had great flavor. I had two bones from the order and was impressed, they did well on the oak pit with the ribs. I liked the cornbread. I was really disappointed by the salad bar. It was a weekday and was not very busy but almost everything on the bar was close to being out and it was quite messy with different toppings landing in other toppings. It is self serve but they should still keep it fully and CLEAN! I got the brisket and babe got the pulled pork sandwhich. I liked that they give you two sides I felt it was worth the price. My mother got the "pulled" pork, which is not pulled, but diced. An unappealing plate to be sure, but tasty and tender meat. The chili was good, the mac n cheese was awful, and the hushpuppies were disgracefully overcooked. This place is as overrated and overpriced as they come. Though our server was good, the rest of the staff seemed inexperienced, overwhelmed, and unhelpful. My girlfriend and mother were turned off by the decor and country music, and I'm sure most women feel similarly. Good going on alienating an important demographic. As I read in a previous comment, food lacked a finish. Everything (except the onion rings) left me hanging. The brisket sandwich was dry... the spicy bbq sauce was lacking. If the mild version had been spicy it would have been ok. The child's hamburger was overpriced. I liked the atmosphere. I kept thinking, can you imagine what Chef Gordon Ramsey would do to the food? Have been a long time Shamus T. Bones customer since their early days in Carlotta. Naturally I was excited when they were moving to Eureka. After several attempts at warming up to the Eureka location, after our last visit a few nights ago we are giving up. This is not something we take lightly because this truly was one of our favorite restaurants. Our last experience started very positive. We didn't have a reservation, but were seated quickly. After being seated, it took a few minutes to get our menus and for our server to take our drink orders. No biggie...they were busy. Unfortunately, that was the last time the server was seen for the next 15-20 minutes. In the meanwhile, opening the menu was a disappointment. While the prices had noticeably gone up (at least from the last time we were there which I admit had been several months) while the menu seemed a lot smaller. Not to mention now instead of picking two side dishes...you were limited to one. Once our server made it back with our corn muffins (a family favorite), we placed our orders. The kids had their typical kid food while my wife had the chicken and I got the Rib Eye. Additionally, we all shared an appetizer. The time from order to service was very reasonable. It is also notable that our server was neither rude nor were they friendly. Just very.....bland in personality and seemed to be reading from a script when questions were asked. I know their job doesn't require them to fall all over themselves with kindness....but the server just seemed a bit off and disinterested. As to the food, for the price paid it was disappointing. My Rib Eye was over cooked. Honestly, I can live with that. But the meat was the toughest I've ever had at Shamus. Since the move to the Eureka location, I've had varying luck with their meat. This time however, I didn't finish my meal. Taste was fine, but my jaw was so tired from chewing that I just gave up. My wife's chicken was....just ok. A bit touch as well and really dry. I will say that the kids' fried chicken strips turned out right on par with what you'd expect with fried chicken strips....so kudos there (sorry for the sarcasm). With that the prices were, I really expect more from the food. I've had good luck with their Rib Eye in the past, but this time really soured me. (Note: I'm not a cheapskate. I know good food costs money and have no problem paying good money for a good meal.) I am a really tolerant person. I never get critical of wait staff and servers as they have an incredibly thankless and tough job. But the final straw for me was when our server first took forever to collect our payment....and then picked it up without saying a word....just grabbed it off the table. Then, came back and just dropped the copy for us to sign on the table without a word. To that point, we had been nothing but polite, friendly, and thankful for the service. Again, I'm not sure what changed over the past few months. Up to this meal, we had always recommended Shamus to friends both local and from out of town. It was a sad moment for me when I looked at my wife and said, "Well....I think this is the last time we eat here." (To which she nodded in agreement) A review is just an opinion. I know many others have nothing but wonderful experiences with Shamus and for that I am envious. However, in my opinion the service, prices, and food have unfortunately seen the last of our business.
