These guys were good pre-COVID. Used to love going there. But now - they took out the buffet and the overall quality of food has gone down quite a bit. Even the appetizers- overly sprinkled with black salt and clearly reheated and under salted core - everything from the samosas to the pakoras seem stale and barely edible. I usually enjoy the non-vegetarian food from this restaurant. On a few occasions, I happen to order some vegetarian main course and have been disappointed every time. I ordered Palak Paneer recently and it was the worst palak paneer I've ever seen/eaten in my life. Being an Indian restaurant please either look up how it is made or do everyone a favor and remove it from your menu completely. It was too salty, paneer was not fresh at all, and you need to blanch the spinach before making it a puree. I finally caved and strayed from my usual Indian place and boy, am I glad I did. I was drawn in by the constant discounts and promotions they are running (poor law student, over here) and I have stayed for the delicious food. I now have to eat twice as much Indian food to be sure to support my two favorite places. I am partial to the paneer korma, because it saved me when I was attempting to cut out meat. The sauce is so flavorful and the portion you get is enough to last several meals, if you have any self control (I don't). As a cilantro hater, I wish I could order their garlic naan and have the option to remove cilantro, but alas, I guess I will live. Service is awesome, location is clean and bright, and the food is always fresh. When I do order delivery, it is warm and arrives quickly. If I am ordering from home (Brookline/Brighton area) it quite literally takes about 25 minutes sometimes, and just slightly longer if I am ordering from work in the city. Two stars may be generous considering all of the food during their lunch buffet was cold. Not room temperature. Cold. I thought it may be a one-time thing, but this was the second time I've tried the lunch buffet, with both experiences being the same. Only thing hot was the garlic naan (which was actually quite good). Flavor-wise, everything was good, except for some of the chicken not being tender or tasting the most fresh. The service was pleasant, but I'm really stumped how something as simple as keeping the food hot wasn't a priority. Very disappointed as the food itself is pretty solid. In England I'd have given this 4 stars, but finding a decent Indian is hard in Boston, so 5 when normalized to local conditions. Everything is pretty mild but u can ask for more heat. My family came on a Sunday for lunch buffet (~$13). Very good price for a buffet if you ask me. My favorites are the vegetable samosa, the goat curry, and chicken tikka masala. Least favorite is the panir - but that's mostly because I don't like panir. Small place, nothing fancy, but nice servers and yummy food. I can't speak to the authenticity of the Indian food, but I enjoyed it regardless! The drinks were a bit too sweet. My dad got something with mango and it was like drinking sugar. My brothers pineapple juice was pretty standard though! We came with a gift card that was $25 for purchase of more than $50. Be warned that they usually don't accept coupons/deals on buffets- only for the a la carte menu! I would definitely recommend the buffet here! I bought a groupon that was worth $30 of food so my boyfriend and I came on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't crowded and service was very fast. For appetizers, we ordered vegetable pakora and garlic naan (sooo fresh and so good). And for entrees we shared the butter chicken and paneer kadai, both great choices. I was worried about the spiciness since I can't handle a lot of spice, so the waiter suggested that we get the medium spice level which turned out perfect for me. I come here too much. This is my go to Indian place because it is extremely close to where I used to live in Brookline. Even though it's in a pretty happening area, it still has its own parking lot (definitely a bonus). I pretty much always get the same thing, Chicken or Lamb Vindaloo (spicy please!) and Garlic Naan. This place never disappoints! Their spice level is just enough to tingle the taste buds but not enough to obliterate them. I usually go to another Indian restaurant in Dorchester but wanted to try something new as I was in the area. The restaurant was clean, waiters were attentive, and buffet selection satisfies any preference. There were a variety of vegetarian dishes, along with chicken and goat. I ordered delivery from Shan-a-Punjab when there weren't any groceries in my fridge and I was too lazy to go buy some. I was craving Indian food and thought I'd give Shan-a-Punjab a try. My first impression wasn't great: I called to simply ask if their main dishes came with rice or if I needed to order it separately (since I was ordering delivery I didn't want to just assume and possibly end up without rice). The gentleman who answered the phone was very brief and very rude. This first impression didn't make me want to order food from here but like I said, I was craving Indian food and didn't have a lot of delivery options. From reading previous reviews, I was anxious about the spiciness of the food so I ordered "mild" on the spice level for my chicken tikka masala. I wish I hadn't listened to the other reviewers - "mild" to my palette meant ZERO spice. I was disappointed because I like a little kick to my Indian food. This place is good if you come here just for the buffet lunch and don't use any coupons or discounts. The service here is atrocious, which a shame because the food is actually pretty good. Unfortunately, I bought the $15 for $30 worth of food via Groupon and they gave me a hard time with it. First of all, nowhere on it does it say that it can't be used for lunch buffet, but that's the biggest limitation on it. I came with three friends but I was forced to order from their menu if I wanted to use the Groupon. Our waiter was not very good because when we asked them for an additional plate and fork he just told us to get one ourselves plus he never really refill their drinks unless we asked them to. The other con of this place that each person that orders from the buffet can only get one serving of naan. So at first, we were served our food literally 3 minutes after ordering, our thoughts were wow that was fast. But we hadn't got our appetizer yet so we were a little confused. I really couldn't think of a reason not to give this place 5 stars. The service was incredible. Our waiter was so polite and genuinely nice. He also made sure my water was always refilled without me asking. The portions were also pretty big compared to other Indian restaurant's that I've been to. The food was served really hot and fresh. It was delicious. The garlic naan was covered in cilantro and steaming with flavor. We got the buttered chicken and palak paneer accompanied with a side of rice. The atmosphere was simple and clean. There is outdoor seating, and free parking. The only thing I didn't really like was the Indian fried dough dessert with rose syrup, but I think that is only because of my own personal preference. We sat outside because it was actually nice outside and they served a 3 sauce sampler with this Indian corn chips that I actually do not know the name of. This replaces the typical bread given at other restaurants to hold you over. I recommend the chicken coconut naan for something mild, but not your ordinary naan to start off. It was not overly sweet at all and had great texture to it, really was pleasantly surprised! I got chicken muncharion ($13) which tasted kind of like a more tangy Asian sweet&sour sauce. Not bad at all, but I think I was expecting something different or more curry like? There's not a whole lot of liquid sauce but the chicken is fully drenched for bold flavor! My friend got chicken tiki masala ($13) which was actually delicious, I liked it better than my own dish. We got mild which was not spicy at all (but you can order otherwise) and they give you good portions! The sauce had all the flavoring i wanted and some sauce to cover your rice with as well. Also got mango lassi ($4) which was my first time and a definitely recommendation!! Tastes like a tart mango milk shake, perfect on a summer day! Dinner also came with free dessert!! Sweet bread balls or Indian ice cream, we asked for one of each and the waiter was kind enough to do that and both were super good. Usually the bread balls are sweet beyond comprehension, but although this was served in syrup, it wasn't as sweet once you bite into it. Served warm and good pairing with the ice cream. I thought I had written a review of this place when we ordered delivery, but apparently I did not. Now that I have had their take out, lunch buffet, and dinner here, I feel like I am adequately suited to write a review. Aaaaaand I'm a fan. When we ordered delivery it came in a reasonable amount of time, and everything was fresh and delicious. We decided to go out on a limb and try it as the new kid on the block, and since it was closer than Punjab Palace, (and significantly cheaper() It will definitely be our go to place for Indian. The most recent time we went here we dined in for dinner as we had a groupon, and it was just wonderful. The staff is very accommodating and we did not feel rushed to order, or eat, even though everything came out pretty quickly. We had adequate time to enjoy our drinks and appetizers before our entrees, which I appreciated, since the table is super tiny. They also were super helpful with using our groupon and explained everything it allowed at the beginning of the meal. One thing we both appreciated is that the portion size is REASONABLE. Even though I still had a tiny bit for lunch the next day, the entree size didn't feel like a daunting mountain of food that we would never be able to finish or make ourselves sick trying. For food we got: Shrimp Samosas Garlic Naan Butter Chicken Seafood Masala and for dessert Galub Jamon, and pistachio ice cream. There was not a single thing I wouldn't recommend! Everything was very flavorful, although I might even be daring and get "medium" spice level next time. I'm never sure if mild means there is already a bit of spice, as I have witnessed at some places, so I played it safe, and there was really no heat at all (which was fine, but just for those wondering) Based on these great experiences, I really was underwhelmed by the lunch buffet. I have only been once, and $10 for free tea and all you can eat, is nothing to sneeze at, but it just didn't feel like there was a lot of variety. I filled up on Samosas. Also- when they set up the buffet it takes up basically the entire restaurant, which created some difficulties with accommodating mobility equipment, but the staff really made great efforts, it's just a really small building, and I feel like there are better ways they could utilize the space during this time. I would go back, now that I know the full potential of their menu, but I much prefer having the options of their whole menu, and not just a couple of selected dishes. Drinks are a nice bonus too!! By far, the BEST buffet in all of the Boston area (not JUST the best Indian buffet). Vegetarian-friendly with plenty for the meat-lovers in the group, as well. This place has the most incredible tea I've ever had in my life (Masala tea). I wish they would package and sell their delicious blend so that some of us can have this daily, particularly on the days we can't make it in to the restaurant. This may have been because they saw I bought the yelp coupon, but regardless, I'd be glad to go there again. Stopped for dinner at around 8pm on the weekend. Weirdly, we were basically the only people at the restaurant. The location is on a good area for dining, but a little farther than most. As soon as we sat down, we were given menus and water. The TV was playing with some music that was not annoying, but perhaps a little bit too loud and rowdy and sort of affected the ambiance they seemed to be going for. Onto the food, for appetizer went for the vegetable samosa, it comes with two decently sized samosas and they were good. We were given free cracker like bread and some sauces complimentary when we sat down that helped bring more flavor to the samosa. For main dishes: butter chicken and coconut chicken curry. Both spectacular in flavor profiles, and still had full flavor after specifying for mild heat. Came with a big bowl of rice that was also great. When we ordered, our friendly waiter asked if we wanted bread for our meal. We had been back and forth on getting some Naan, and his request tipped us over the edge. Did not regret getting the Garlic Naan, perfectly seasoned and charred it was great. Would certainly return and try more of their dishes. Would stick with ordering other Naan flavors and not samosas as they did not impress me. Friendly and warm staff, someone who we assume was the manager or owner asked how our meal was twice during our visit and he was very attentive as were the waiters with water and such. My friend and I really enjoyed the meal we had here. I had the chicken tikka masala and she had a shrimp dish with a coconut curry-like sauce. The taste was really good and the chicken and shrimp were great quality. We were happy that they gave us the option to have our meals mild, medium, or spicy! We were also super happy they allowed us to eat outside with our dog. We will definitely come back here!
