Make sure to make resy for holidays. Place was recommended for seafood. The oyster soup said oyster liquor and prompted me to try it and it was so good. I got a cup and I loved it so much I got a bowl too. I was primarily excited for the jumbo lump crabcake. Utter disappointment. Over cooked, dry, tasteless, couldn't even finish the other half. The grilled red fish was great, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We went here specifically for crab cakes so it was so disappointing it didn't turn out well. Veggies were over steamed so kind of mushy. Fries were decent. The crab oysters were good but a little bland. Service was decent.

Eugene's has our hearts! Peel and eat shrimp here is the best! We have only ordered the cold shrimp, but I am sure if you prefer hot it would be amazing! It is served with cocktail sauce and BBQ sauce. We prefer the cocktail sauce and always request extra horseradish. It is the best ever and priced perfectly for the high quality! Every visit we order shrimp. If we visit during happy hour, they are even better priced at $1.25 each. We have been known to order 12, 24, and more. Speaking of happy hour, they have a wonderful HH menu. Stuffed jalapeños are $3 each and served with a decadent rémoulade sauce. Order as many or as few as you can eat! They also have raw oysters, boudain balls, calamari, and burgers on the HH menu. HH is at the bar or the seating area near the bar. We have had the gumbo, seafood enchiladas, onion rings, redfish, wedge salad, and more. Every single item is prepared perfectly with great attention to quality and taste! Great service no matter which menu or which area you are seated in. Eugene's used to be Danton's on Richmond. This one is tucked away on Welch street.

Came for HOUSTON RESTAURANT WEEK (HRW) on a Friday evening (8/1) Service - although friendly, i will say their service was quite slow. I will say the area of the restaurant we were in was kind of packed but i wish there was more servers for the area... tis well. We started off with seafood gumbo & the corn and crab bisque. Both were tasty and would recommend. My friend tried the fried shrimp platter with onion rings and i ordered the Salmon Bianca. The salmon was amazing... i had it made medium and that was a good choice. We both ended with the white chocolate bread pudding. My friend thought it was too rich/ soggy but I had no complaints. I'm not a fan of bread pudding but of the HRW 3rd course options - this one sounded the best and no complaints over here. I feel like I will definitely be back. Perfect for girls night, date night, business meeting, etc.

    - [ ] I would quite literally go here just for the happy hour on the fresh oysters. It's been awhile since we've had oysters that reminded us of our time in NOLA, and this place does it right. They are so fresh and plump. The boudin balls were decent, honestly it could have been a little more crispier. The remoulade was perfect though. To drink, I got the Ruby's Prosecco (St. Germain, an ice ball filled with orange juice, muddle berries and mint, then topped with prosecco) it was a light and refreshing cocktail, and as time goes on the ice slowly melts releasing the other flavors. For our mains, I got the Pecan Crust Rainbow Trout with Asparagus and the Twice Baked Potato. The fish was cooked perfectly, and I loved the Bianca sauce. I thought it complimented it perfectly. My. Husband got the special which I can't remember if there was a septic name to it but it had some Scallops and topped with Lump Cramb Meat in a light butter sauce. He enjoyed it, but I think he lucked out because he was originally going to order the Ribeye but our waiter told us the specials so he went with the scallops. Overall, the service was great. It's a nice little place that gave us a little piece of NOLA without having to travel the extra 5 hours.

Again happy hour oysters $15 for a dozen 2-5 pm on the weekends. Very good quality for Texas oysters. Of course had seafood gumbo with much shrimp and oysters as well!! Drinks are reduced as well . For a late lunch or early dinner many choices.

I'm surprised I barely heard of this restaurant because we were blown away. Great service, great food, and great location. Food: we started our New Year's Eve dinner off with the Boudin balls, and they were great. They were seasoned perfectly. Next onto the main course, I had the shrimp Poboy along with a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. The shrimp are very fresh and full of flavor. Lightly battered, I opted for tartar sauce and pickles. It was the best combination for this Poboy. I really enjoyed my meal. The chicken and sausage gumbo was simply amazing. Also the red fish special with the crab topping that my girlfriend got was phenomenal. She really enjoyed that dish. I tried to bite and enjoyed it as well. I really like sitting outdoors, the flowers were a nice touch. The service was good. Even though we sat outside, we were taken care of. We will definitely come back here for many more lunches and dinners. You guys knocked it out of the park. Thank you for making our New Year's Eve dinner great!

Finally found an establishment that will meet all my Seafood needs. Their shrimp and grits were 5 stars. The service was impeccable and timely. Never had to ask for a refill. I noticed, the waitstaff was very attentive to their patrons and not only that, they helped out each other to make sure everyone was taken care of. The ambience was the most impressive. It felt cozy and warm and was actually able to hold a conversation without screaming over the music. Which was welcomed relief. I will definitely make this spot a frequent place and also, will encourage my friends and associates to definitely give Eugene's a try.

Went in for happy hour to try them out. I heard the catfish nuggets were good indeed they are! The service was great. Cesar very attentive . The ambience was delightful. The oysters were very fresh and perfect clean. The shrimp was very fresh. The Boudin balls were amazingly and coded just perfectly. boudin balls were excellent. Will be back. Happy hour 5-7. Oysters n shrimp $1.25.

When my family and I went to eat dinner here, we requested a private table and were immediately shown to the dining area in the back, even though we were the only ones there. I was really impressed by that right off the bat. Our server was extremely attentive and explained all the menu options. I opted for the HRW menu and was taken aback by the poblano soup. It was one of the most delicious soups I have ever tasted, with the crab pieces adding the perfect texture to the creamy soup. The main course of the Crab Madison was also extremely tasty, though the texture felt a little less smooth. For desert we got the crème brûlée and chocolate cake and both were heavenly! A great meal overall.

I had a bitter after taste leaving the restaurant heading home. Not sure why. I ordered two items for HRW Saturday brunch menu: 1) crab stuffed jalapeños and 2) Kyle's crab salad. Both were mediocre at best. Bacon saved the day for the salad since the dressing wasn't doing the job. Nothing was outstanding.

For how popular Gulf Coast seafood restaurant concepts are in Houston these days, I'm shocked more people aren't raving about Eugene's. They've been open since 2007 (formerly branded as Danton's), and have been in their new River Oaks location since 2019, in the old Mockingbird Cafe location for those old school Houston foodies who remember. The menu has some serious depth, and great pricing. (including Menu pics) I recently ate at the new and buzzy Little's Oyster Bar which has similar Gulf Coast seafood offerings and I probably spent more than double on our meal there versus Eugene's. Sure the plating was fancy, but at the end of the day it was the same crab, redfish, and oysters... FYI If you like raw gulf oysters, they run on the medium to large size here. Some people love the bigger sized ones but some hate it so thought to mention. They've got Crab Cakes, Campechana, Crab Fingers, Oyster Rockefeller, Gumbo, Crab Salad, Shrimp Creole, Red Beans and Rice, Pecan Crusted Trout, Redfish on the half shell, Shrimp Etouffee, Seafood pasta dishes, Po' Boys, and even steak and chicken offerings for those less than excited about seafood guests. Seriously it's a great menu of seafood offerings and beyond. It's a white tablecloth type place, with black tie waiters whom on our visit were impeccable with service. You can get away with business casual here, especially as we head into the warmer Summer months. There's a dress code guide on their website, but the gist is don't show up wearing anything too casual, ghetto, or revealing and you'll be fine. If you have a craving for good quality seafood and aren't looking to fight the crowds at all the new and shiny options out there, don't forget about your old friend Eugene's.

This is the food .I got for my dad, he is 73 and called me an hr after saying that he was nauseous.

Today we went for Houston Restaurant Week (HRW) . It was a very disappointing experience. My friends and I wanted to try a new place during HRW and this turned out to be the least exciting and least quality filled experience. We all ordered the 2 items from the HRW menu, $25 each, plus additional drinks and items from happy hour. I got the crab stuffed jalapenos, $1.25 oysters, and Croquilles Saint-Jacques. The crabcaked served with the saint-jacques were more bread than crab, the scallop was tough and out of the food items ordered, the only decent tasting (flavor and quality) was the crab stuffed Jalapeños. The oysters were gulf, sub-par and tasted old. The shrimp from the shrimp cocktail tasted as though it was not fresh or had been sitting out because it tasted dry and hard. Our server, though very nice was very un-attentive. I'm not sure if it may have been a lack of experience or lack of management. It looked as though the service staff were chicken with their heads cut off because there were no active managers on the floor or "table - tapping" to ensure quality and service. Additionally during our time there we saw that the other table next to us that he was in charge of had to consistently get his attention for service, even though he had taken our order then turned to leave without checking on them as well. At the end of the meal I asked for food To-Go, I always get my father food from new places so he can try. He got the catfish pieces and a side of red beans and rice, the total amount of his food came to $20. Pictures are attached but for this price this is not worth it. The icing on the cake was, I tried the catfish pieces and they were unseasoned, breading falling off, and TASTED EXTREMELY FISHY. If you are a fish lover you know this means the fish is old and possibly against health violations. Overall it is sad that this place is so close to me but I have decided never to be a patron of this establishment again. I do not want to give this place a chance if the owners and managers do not take this seriously.

Everyone raves about the pasta and rightfully so. The noodles with the right amount of bolognese was such a flavorful comfort food. The pork belly was also delicious but the pasta hit better.
