I ordered the spicy vegetable bean soup, expecting a flavorful, well-prepared dish, but what arrived was simply a bowl of plain black beans--disappointing and far from what the menu description suggested. I would have given three stars, but this place is new and in the "opening" phase. Staff is always amazing to customers, and you can tell the owner loves her joint. The first time I went I got food envy and that is all on me. I got the chicken salad with tomatoes and they used super thin slices for a sandwich. I asked for more tomato and no charge, so super content. Second time I went there and got the club. Sooo good. Call me a weirdo, but I wish there was more of the cheap ingredients (aka. Lettuce & tomato) Happy hour specials are legit and after creeping on other peoples plates I would say try the chicken 100%! Kid and family friendly and salads look awesome. One odd pattern I saw was when people got seated it was asked what they want and myself and heard other tables request a menu. I went Shandy's for lunch on 3/1 and had a nice time. The restaurant wasn't crowded and there was street parking. I love the aesthetics of the restaurant, especially the Bob Marley wall art. The service and customer service was good and the food was great. I had a Caesar salad and black bean soup. Both were delish! My colleagues had veggie burgers (made with quinoa I think) and fries. They said their food was good. Our bill was $50. Not bad at all. I look forward to returning when I'm in The Heights again. read more

We came here on a Sunday afternoon-which is typically busy for most restaurants in the Heights. Shandy's was pretty empty. No one was in the front to greet us or direct us where to go. We tried getting someone's attention at the back of the restaurant but no one came by to help us. Some people at a nearby table told us to seat ourselves, so we did. She wasnt unfriendly but didn't greet us or talk about the menu either. We didn't see her much after she took our orders and brought us food. We had to wave her down when we needed something. Customer service can definitely use some improvement. The restaurant had a brunch menu (which was pretty beat up) and a regular menu. The regular menu was mostly sandwiches, salads, and burgers. The prices seemed high for what they were offering-basically diner food but with less variety. When we got our food, it was clear that the food was overpriced. I ordered a burger with fries. There were barely any fries on the plate and I had to ask for vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, onions) on my burger. The burger was decent but not worth 15.00. My friend had pasta which was basically pasta shells with Parmesan sprinkled on top of it combined with mushrooms, broccoli, and a very small amount of sauce. It was bland and dry. She didn't finished it. My other friend had the soup and salad. The chicken soup looked like thinned out canned chicken noodle soup when it arrived. It was also very bland. The sandwich didn't have vegetables either and was small and dry. They should have told us that the sandwiches and burgers are literally just bread with meat and cheese and we would have to ask for tomatoes or lettuce. We were very disappointed with our food and experience at Shandy's and will definitely not be back. read more

I had an exceptionally bad experience here from service to food. The server was rude from the get-go. She was quite curt with my elderly mother who had some questions about the menu. She ordered the soup/sandwich combo and I ordered the tuna sandwich. Both sandwiches weren't so much terrible as they were pointless. And I mean utterly pointless. Either sandwich could have been made at home. The chicken soup was completely flavorless. My sandwich came with fries. I counted them because there were so few. I got 11 fries. For $33 bucks plus tip I found this almost offensive. The disappointment was compounded because I wanted to take my mom someplace nice for lunch. I thought Shandy's kinda seemed like it could been on the same level as Brasil or Empire Cafe but I was wrong. I was tempted to ask for my money back but instead I'll just leave this review. Bad. This review is only regarding service. We ordered a drink and chose not to stay for dinner based on the attitude of the lady serving at the bar. She was rude when my very pregnant daughter asked for a mocktail. She rolled her eyes and acted like it was such an inconvenience. She poured a nonalcoholic beer in an iced tea glass and shoved it toward her. People order mocktails for the experience of a cocktail minus the alcohol. We left and won't be back. The menu wasn't that impressive and a bit pricey for salads and sandwiches. It was an easy decision to leave. I understand why no one else was there. read more

Popped in on a late afternoon , mid week. Positively delightful experience. The ambiance is pretty chill. Clean, open feeling, right off of 19th street so right in the heart of things. The service was very efficient by Shandy and there was another lady that could have been her sister but I am not sure but both were very nice and on the ball. The food was great ! I had Rustica Chicken sandwich which was a flavor explosion. If you like chicken sandwiches this one gives a nice change from the same old, same old. My husband had the Buffalo burger and he said it was excellent. We will be back because I have seen pictures of the pork chops and they look so good I must try them next time !! read more

This place is super cute on the inside. Open seating, which can be nice. I've been two times in two weeks. Overall, stick with the pasta dishes. They are all wonderful. Great portion size. I got the chicken salad sammie the first time and it was very underwelming. Idk if it's the ciabatta bread, but I'd steer clear of all sandwiches. I do suggest that she share this information as a general procedure to educate the public. Believe it or not, there are a lot of folks in Texas who are completely unaware of how to grill, bbq, or smoke. That includes me. My first visit here and the experience was neutral. Let me say I hesitate to give any negative reviews with what our food service industry has gone through. However, now more than ever quality matters, service matters and value matters Pro's: -Nice atmosphere, clean and trendy -Friendly wait staff. Prompt and professional -Best Iced Tea since Cafe Express went out of business here. :) -great French fries Con's: -food was simply ok -wife's chicken sandwich was plain and other than the chipotle Mayo nothing special at all. -Shrimp BLT was underwhelming to say the least. Toasted square wheat bread, lettuce, tomato, bacon and maybe 4-5 small shrimp. No special seasoning, just a little seasoned Mayo. -Price was $40 before tip. $47 with tip is just too much for the value we got for lunch. My sandwich for $16 didn't even come with fries but some HEB like baked potato chips. We did see some other dishes that looked good. The burger plate and the chopped salad appeared nicely done and certainly a better value. We will certainly try Shandys again amd will re rate it at that time if warranted. Anyways I hope they can step up their game as there is certainly a place for this kind of restaurant in the Heights on19th street. read more

Good service and a nice interior but needs some help. Let me preface this review by saying that it is new and every new place has growing pains. The good: our server was very kind and efficient. Their waters are huge so you might never need to wait for a refill. This seems trivial but how many times have you been in a place desperately waiting for some water refill that never comes? The interior is very new, clean and inviting. The iffy: they only have diner coffee. In this neighborhood you may want to up the game on your coffee selection, even if it's just cold brew. The overall seasoning is really lacking. The breakfast potatoes were soaked in oil with no salt or flavor. The omelette was okay but way over cooked. Breakfast tacos were also just okay. I'll be back to give them another shot with their lunch food and hope they flourish in this neighborhood. read more

Absolutely LOVED this place. The RIBEYE (ordered med rare) was was DELICIOUS, even better than at the best Houston stakehouses. I woke up the next day thinking when could have this again. Came here for date night with the hubs on a Friday night and sat at the bar. It's a decently sized place and wasn't very busy at all. We had their spicy shandy cocktail and old fashioned and both were well made and tasty. For food, we had the roasted chicken with spinach and the blue cheese burger and those were also both good. The portion of the main part of the meal was large but the sides were small - I wish the chicken came with more spinach and I was surprised by the kinda small amt of fries. The chicken itself was a lil dry but it comes with a dipping sauce that made it perfect. I would order that meal again. They have a pretty extensive menu so I'd want to try the other dishes too. The bartender/server was friendly and the service was fast. I believe the owner was walking around saying hi and making sure everything was good for everyone. What a great little place. Being new to American portion sizes it was great to get a meal that was a reasonable size (manageable for one person without feeling like you'd heavy lifting gear to get out of your seat afterwards), tasty, and well priced. Coffee was good - not personally a huge fan of filter (espresso is the usual back home) but this was nice coffee, refills freely offered. The best thing about the place was the staff. Another party dining at the same time as us were hassling a female member of the wait staff about their hair colour. To their credit the young woman took the rather barbed comments with good grace. When they came to check on us she was lovely. Quick witted, and mildly sarcastic (in a friendly way) - I'd employ them. Our male server was also very attentive, and pleasant to deal with.
