Small portions for the dinner price, served in lunch bowls, not dinners size. It wasn't cooked the way most people would expect. The Kung Pao Chicken was horrible. It didn't look normal color, it was tasteless and wasn't spicy at all. The sesame chicken was made with a strong ginger red sauce and was nasty. When we walked in the restaurant was chaotic with storage items everywhere. Thank goodness we were taking the food to go. Time from ordering to delivery via Grubhub was good. My husband enjoyed his Mongolian Beef but I had ordered Combo Lo Mein and got a combo fried rice instead. Disappointing but I was too hungry to make an issue. I would caution the employees to double or triple-check the orders. read more

I moved from East Anchorage to the Sand Lake area recently, and have to admit I was completely reluctant to try this place. Hubby finally convinced me to give it a whirl, and I have to say I'm really glad I did. The place is very clean, though there was an overwhelming fragrance of some kind - to me it smelled like a car freshener. I'm averse to fragrances of any kind, so that was a turn off, but the food was great. I ordered the Shanghai Chicken, hubby ordered the Shrimp Mona Mona. Both dishes were really great. My chicken had lots of fresh veggies, nice chunks of chicken breast (no gross gristly pieces) in a flavorful sauce. I thought the portion size was great - had lots to take home. Same for my hubby. Their egg drop soup was the best I've ever had. I ended up ordering more so I could bring it to work for lunch. Next up, I'm going to try some pizza. Hubby has already tried their Mongolian Beef Pizza and he LOVED it. Don't sell this place short - I think we've found a gem in Jewel Lake! read more

We are tourists but this place was not a tourist trap. Good food at reasonable, by Alaskan standards, prices. Who would have thought of Chinese food and pizza. Perhaps this place opened after marijuana was legalized?? Definitely a menu that will cure a case of the munchies. We are not pot smokers but I would recommend this place to anyone who is! Never thought pizza and Chinese food would be out of one place. The photos and yelp reviews were good. The Chinese food was very good and not oily. A very nice use of ginger. We've never had a bad meal at Jewel Lake Tea Garden. The ingredients are fresh and they always make their dishes to your tastes. One of their notable dishes and a family favorite is the sesame beef, which features tender cuts of spicy and sweet steak. The hot and sour soup is the best in town. read more

Egg rolls only had mushy cabbage inside. No carrot or anything. I was pretty excited that the pork fried rice was only 11.50 But now I see why. It was the worst I've ever had. Pretty disappointing that I can make better fried rice than an authentic restaurant. Mongolian beef was the BEST I've ever had. It didn't come with the crunch noodles underneath but had a ton of vegetables with it. So despite 2 of the 3 items ending up in the trash, we will definitely be back for the Mongolian beef and to see what else the do good. Also they say they're open until 10 but they actually only take orders or let you come in until 9:30! Overall I'm on the fence but I will most likely be back to give it another chance. read more

Worst chinese food ever. Tasted like they gave us leftovers. We ordered fried rice, which they topped with raw diced onions. Sesame chicken was drowning in sauce and did not taste like authentic sesame chicken. Their portions were small and their food was not tasty at all. Only thing we enjoyed was the egg drop soup. If I could give this place a 0 star rating I would. The customer service is AWEFUL. Twice I have ordered at my place of business and had issues the first time thinking it may have been a mistake I decided to give this place a 2nd chance! Bad Idea. I was told that it would be about 45 mins to an hour after it reaching over the hour mark I called mind yiu this business is close to where I work literally from door to door about 10 minutes max. The lady who answered my call said he had left a while ago. I was told I would get a call back no call back . I called the business again and was told she had to connect with the driver. And get a call back twice in the same transaction I got no call back. When food arrived not only was it cold but I had specifically requested chop sticks as they are by request only no chopsticks in bag. No discount no promise to deliver a set nothing instead driver informed me he put them in a doordash order! No wonder my food took twice as long he delivered to his other customer first . OK, I am trying to make this a very honest review. We have been going to this restaurant off and on for over 10 years. Most of our experience has been dine in, and that has been some of the best Chinese food in Anchorage. The bad side? Consistently some of the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. Orders constantly incorrect, items forgotten, and recently restaurant closed for three days even though the website says nothing about it. So we placed an order for dinner, arrived at the restaurant to pick it up, only to find out it's closed. No food for us. Fortunately I had not paid yet. Again, as most people know, Chinese food is only good when it's fresh. And when we get the correct order, and dine in, it's fresh and really good. I would recommend you write your order down on a piece of paper and give them to whoever is waiting on you to guarantee that the orders are correct. read more

We have been getting Chinese food here for about 13 years now. Our favorite is the tea garden dinner. Lately they seem to have a different cook, the food doesn't seem as good as it used to be. Came here with my husband and two kids tonight. We have driven past this restaurant for years always thinking what an odd combination..Pizza and Chinese. I saw 5 and 4 star ratings on Yelp and I finally convinced my husband to try it. It was great! The boys shared a pizza and my husband and I ate Chinese. The boys thought the pizza was "really good!" first of all, i went to this place because peking wok was packed. shitballs.... bad idea. this place is creepy when you walk in..... my friend and i sat down and it took about 10 minutes before we were asked if we'd like a beverage. the waitress brought out soup for us to enjoy. the broth was nasty looking and i took a small sip... i didn't realize they made egg drop soup with palmolive! geez, seriously all i could taste was dish soap. the bus boy comes out and i tell him that he could take the bowl and he ask's, "did you eat out of it?" seriously? what do they do? dump it back in the pot if it doesn't look like someone ate it? jeez..... anyway, we didn't eat anything else after that. we put all of the food in a to go bag and dumped it when we left. needless to say... i checked the muni for the restaurant reviews http://dining.ci.anchorage.ak.us/esan/ and it turns out this restaurant has had continuous problems with roaches. do not attempt it unless you actually don't mind palmolive drop soup with sprinkles of roach droppings. read more

One our daughter-in-law's favorite restaurants for takeout. We called in our order on the way home from our grandson's hockey practice. Egg rolls and Chow Mien were what you'd get anywhere but the General Taso's Chicken was good. The portions are generous and the cooked to order. We ordered 4 tea garden dinners to go tonight. We live 3 minutes away from the restaurant, behind fred meyer. The food was luke warm by the time we got home. The egg rolls were kinda soggy and cold. The crispy chicken was soggy grilled chicken. And the worst part...stale fortune cookies! How in the hell am I suppose to believe a stale fortune cookie? This is my first time eating from this place, and maybe the carry out is not as good as dinning in, but I will never eat there again. read more
