Better than I expected for Lodi. The last time I ate here I was sick and couldn't taste anything at all. So it was a nice change to go in and find out what the food is like. I love that people remember me and are very friendly. I love the ribs but my favorite it the Ginger Prawns. I was surprised at the bad reviews. I was there on opening day and still love them. Chose this place for a birthday dinner as they can accommodate a large group. (12 children and adults total). We were sat when we came in as we made a reservation. Got drinks fairly quickly but had multiple people rushing to our table. Hard to tell who was waiting/ bussing. They brought us extra side salads we didn't order and charged them, but since they were on the table and we ate it we didn't argue the charge. Another side salad was never brought to the table and on the bill for for zero dollars. Katsu chicken came up first, after 30 minutes. Ten minutes later the next few entrees. Ten minutes later more entrees. We waited over an hour for the last few plates, sashmi/ nigiri plate and two rolls. They knew it was a birthday and never offered any dessert when we'd got it in the past. We were not going to ask to have another hour wait. The service was awful and drink refills came late. There were patrons waiting for tables up front with open tables around the restaurant. When we got the bill there was a 20% gratuity. Now I've waited tables before, I'm usually lienenent on service staff having done it myself. However, a 20% when 15-18% is standard. Nearly sixty dollars for subpar service is not alright. People were sat, fed and left in the time it took to get a plate of sushi. Large group is one thing. But there were empty tables the entire time we were there, and tables that remained empty the entire time. If we collectively are charged 330 dollars then I expect some level of service. read more

Came here for dinner. They have a large menu which is great. The seating is very comfortable and ambiance is nice. The owner/manager seemed friendly , he promptly seated us. Great location, but food and service was lacking a little bit. Kung pao chicken had a strange taste, the crab rangoons were okay, but almost no crab and too much cream cheese. We ordered the Lodi roll, and that was just okay. We ordered hot tea and it was not refreshing,it had an odd smell and the teapot wasn't clean. They have so many beautiful tea pots infront it was kind of strange to see only one flavor of tea and it's not served in one of those neat teapots. Our waitress hardly made eye contact. No one around once our food was out and waitress never asked us how everything was. Maybe there are better menu options but after the experience we had, Don't think we'll return. read more

I love Shangri La... I go at least twice a month and typically get a bento box or a variety of rolls. Dan, one of the waiters, is a funny friendly guy who always makes a point to say hi and ask how our experience is. The only problem I encounter occasionally is the speed of receiving our food. Sometimes it takes a while if they are busy. I usually go with a group of people and we have a great time. I love the downtown roll and the tiger roll! MMmmm... I am hungry now. Having read about this place, we really needed to try it on the next trip up to Stockton. Using asian fare from Hawaii as a guide, I decided to try their chicken katsu. It was quite soft/moist. Pros: -Food came out pretty quick -the waitresses were nice (wait for the cons) Cons: -I ordered the Malaysian Fried rice, which was supposed to come with mango and pineapple but those ingredients were missing (the mango and pineapple were the reason I ordered this dish) -my mother-in-law ordered hot tea and was charged for it but she never received it. -my husbands bento box had gristly beef that was almost inedible -the waitresses gave our table to someone else, and then proceeded to make the people they accidently gave the table to feel really bad. While eating with my friends a young asian waitress named Chastity came up to the table asking if we knew someone and we didnt think much of it until she said her coworker showed her a picture of the girl who she was talking about which happened to be our friend. We said we recognized her and she said oh thats funny i beat her ass and stole her $500 harmon and kardon speaker. Mind you this fight she was talking about put our friend in the hospital where they found roofies in her system from being at shangra la after business hours with the staff. Aside from admitting to stealing our friends speaker and flaunting about "beating" her ass she continued to bring up other people we knew because they "flirted with her boyfriend desmond " and bragged about how they didnt want to fight her either. This girl shouldve been fired but her mom also works here as a bartender and server and is close to the manager. But this is so unprofessional and now we can actually open a court case since we have witnesses who heard her enthusiastically talk about stealing and beating up a drugged girl on the clock. Never coming back again. This girl completely defeats the professionalism and higher ended service of this establishment. Love this place! This was the first sushi place we went to since we've moved to Lodi, and we LOVE it! Service is pretty good, nice atmosphere, and standard sushi prices. We usually get discount coupons from www.restaurant.com which are definitely a plus! Start with edamame and have a few rolls. The Dragon Roll is great! They also have a great late night happy hour and pleasant nightlife. Love their oyster shooters and they make a strong Long Island! I'd give them 5 stars, but we've been turned away on two or three occasions because they decided to not stay open late for their late night happy hour. Call ahead of time to check if you are planning on going there for a late drink and/or meal, because it REALLY sucks finding somewhere else to go if they aren't open. read more

Poor, poor customer service! We went for dinner last night. It was busy, but it wasn't like the entire restaurant was full and there were people waiting for a table. Not even close. My husband and our daughter went in, we waited about 5 minutes until we were finally acknowledged. Seated right away, got our waters right away. Asked the hostess if we can place drink orders. She said, "No, I'm just the 'menu' girl." in which we waited 5 minutes for. And then 10 minutes later we were finally asked if we wanted anything to drink besides water. So we placed our bar drink orders...20 minutes later, no drinks yet. Our waitress overheard me complaining to my husband and came to us and said, sorry about the drinks, it's really busy tonight. Duh, apparently!! Finally got our drinks and our food orders came. It was ok. The rice plates were pricey for just stir-fry chicken and a cup of rice, $14. Really?? And our daughter's order was crap, $8 on Katsu Chicken for kids...and it didn't even fill her up, so she had a helping of our stir fry and sushi...Her side of salad did not have any dressing on it. The food was good, only reason why it gets 2/5 stars. We were finishing up and my husband ordered another round of drinks for us. About 10 minutes later, his drink arrived, mine didn't. He asked for mine, and she said, "Oh...what did you order?" And there you have it! And we told her again. My husband looked at the menu to order another roll...because we were still starving. And she said, "I don't think you should order anymore sushi rolls because they are backed up, we are slammed tonight. It will be a long wait for it, but I don't think you should order any rolls at this time." REALLY?!?!?! Denied!!! We were still hungry and this waitress tells us she can't feed us anymore because they are really slammed. She also said she doesn't know why everyone wants sushi tonight. Really? Do you have a brain cell...you boast to sell Sushi, Japanese, and Chinese Food, you idiot?! We've been here many times before, always went out of our way to drive to Lodi from Patterson for good food!! But last night we spent $80 and still starving! Sad day. We used to come here all the time. Today we went in for some Scallop Shooters and food. The shooters were good, not quite as delicious as they used to be. We ordered off the happy hour menu and we were super disappointed. The rolls we ordered looked like I'd made them. The gyoza looked like they came from Costco and the spareribs seemed gamey. Glad we only spent $40 to find that out. We always used to spend $100+ when we went it. We couldn't wait to leave this time. Also everything was dirty. Called in late to order dinner, as I came into town late. Their miso soup is a big bowl, no seaweed, but still delicious. I asked for a custom roll, salmon and avocado inside, salmon on top. what I got was that but also with tempura shrimp inside and two sauces on top, a spicy one and a eel sauce style. Since I asked for something pretty simple and specific, I was surprised they added the other stuff. It was okay, but not what I was craving. The service and food preparation has gotten progressively better over the last few years. (Also, we get air travel miles for eating here!) The last time we visited was our anniversary. The fried calamari is quite good as an appetizer and it's the best seaweed salad in town to my taste. The bar is extensive and carries great sake. My girlfriend and I ate here for lunch today and both of us left STUFFED and only had to pay 22$.
