Her flavor combinations were delicious and creative, her professionalism and confidence is unmatched, and her cakes, fillings, and frostings were incredible. My husband is very picky about his cake and particularly frostings, and Shani's swiss meringue buttercream is just the right amount of sweet, which compliments her light and moist cakes perfectly. We asked for a custom design using pressed florals and Shani coordinated with our florist to grow edible flowers in her own garden that would coordinate for the day. If you are going to have a wedding in Mendocino, Shani is your girl. We unfortunately were forced to cancel our wedding due to the Covid pandemic. Shani had reached out to us when the shut down began and provided us options for what we could do moving forward. When we realized that we could not have a wedding and would not know when a wedding could take place, she was incredibly understanding. She told us she would return all of our deposit without us having to struggle for it. In the end, we decided to use the money to order some goodies because we knew she was an outstanding baker from our cake tasting. We were not disappointed. Our single greatest regret from having to cancel our wedding is not being able to have the cake she would have made for us. We would recommend her and her desserts to anyone. Also, if you ever have the chance, her caramel bourbon sauce is to die for. I want to bathe in it. In what has turned into a nightmare situation, Shani has been a sole high point. Our wedding had to be canceled because of the Corona Virus. I LOVED working with Shani. She was recommended by my wedding planner as one of the preferred cake vendor. I had met with one and talked with another baker prior to booking with Shani. The others seems good but I just was not that impressed. Shani was very quick to respond to my questions, I found her website to be very informative and loved all the pictures from her past events. I knew I did not want the traditional wedding cake. Instead, I wanted a cutting cake with customized topper (I ordered through Esty) and asked Shani to match that same design onto the cupcake. I wanted the colors to be the same as my wedding color and wanted to incorporate lace. I had emailed her a couple of pictures of my idea and had completely left it up to her to make it happen. I took a trip to Mendocino to meet with Shani for tasting and go over any final details and of course signed the contract. Shani is so sweet and accommodating and working with her was a piece of cake :) A couple of months prior to the wedding, I decided to add full hot chocolate station with all the fixings. She was able to give me a very reasonable quote and ended up booking her for that too. 1 day prior o the wedding I decided I no longer want the hot chocolate station at the ceremony....I wanted it at the reception instead since the ceremony was 20-30 minutes at the most. She made the quick change and made everything happen. I did not get to see the desserts and cake until the reception. When I first saw it, I was amazed at the details. It truly was everything I had hoped for and even more. So simple, so elegant and so perfect. I LOVED everything about it. She made a couple of small bites desserts as well and they were delicious. I unfortunately did not get to eat too much of the cake but I did have a bite of it and it was very tasty. Although I did not get to enjoy the hot chocolate station I heard it was a big hit and from the pictures I received from my photographer....the station looks awesome. If you follow her on facebook, you can tell she is beyond talented. Some of her work is just stunning. She doesnt just bake and make cakes...she is truly an artist. The thing that blows my mind about Shani is that she recently started this business a couple of years ago and learned everything on her own. My wife surprised me with a custom cake for our 26th anniversary. She called Brewery Gulch Inn where we are staying and the owner Guy did his research and knew we would be blown away by Shani. What was so touching is my wife told them "steampunk" design which many people struggle with and what I hear is that Shani was excited to do this request. She told them budget, and wanted to be surprised too so even tho she had been researching images, gave Shani carte blanche so she could be surprised as well. Upon arrival to our room it was all set up and waiting and boy was it a surprise. She hit the nail on the head with the design and adding a heart on top (my wife loves anything hearts). The meticulous details, spot on theme representation, and then when we finally stopped ogling over it and sliced it up, the richness, moistness and freshness of the chocolate chocolate chocolate flavor was decadent and oooh sooo good.
