    Inflatable obstacle course!
    Dot M.

Y'all. We planned this adventure in mid-August on my son's 11th birthday. I signed up for the twilight package, which was a multi-hour time slot (maybe 4-7pm or something similar). Let me tell you...my husband and I didn't make it all three hours! Husband tapped out at the 45 minute mark and I made it about 90 minutes. It is a hilarious, fun, funny way to spend your time but it is a WORKOUT. The lifeguards (of which there were plenty) called a 10 minute break at the end of every hour to get everyone out of the shallow lagoon and check for anyone in distress. There were seats available under the trees overlooking the play space and we saw plenty of picnic blankets spread out also as people caught their breath for a moment. It was a bit of a free for all, no one-way only restrictions, which really made it feel like you were on some sort of silly game show. Lots to climb up, climb over, climb on, leap off of, etc. We didn't add the wakeboarding experience as none of us have ever done that. The inflatable obstacle course was our primary objective for birthday shenanigans. Life jackets were mandatory and had to be the ones provided by Shark Wake. Those who brought their own were sent to return them to their cars. There is also a minimum height requirement for the course, which is absolutely warranted and made sense. Anyone younger than 7-8 wouldn't fare well with the size of the inflatables and the larger people all around. All in all we had a fantastic afternoon, though now I know better and will only book a 1-hour spot! We were all wiped out by the end, but we had a good time and the kids thought it was the best day ever!

We visited on a whim this past Wednesday. 4 of us did the Obstacle Island, 3 of us did the Wake Park. Upon arrival, Josh greeted us. He assisted us with picking gear and determining what we wanted to do. He had the best personality and was so helpful and welcoming! So great to have an employee of a business be so friendly! We had a blast on the OI. I laughed so hard my sides hurt! Our older kids enjoyed the wake park wake boarding. It is definitely no easy task! They got the hang of it and enjoyed it as well. The snack bar was excellent and even served Mellow Mushroom Pizza which is a big favorite of ours! Good prices, good selection and nice seating area with view of both the OB and the WP. After we finished up, as we were leaving Josh checked to make sure we had a great time and told us to come back again! We most certainly will be back next summer!

This is our second year doing this and it is so much fun. It's about $25 for 45 min. If you are superman you can get a second session for an additional $10 but one session is enough to tired anyone out. Good for all ages you just have to be able to get out of the water with a life jacket on when you fall in. Pretty much run by teens like any Waterpark so don't expect to much from them. There is seating for ppl not participating.

The wake boarding was mostly workers that never got off. All the paying patrons had to stand and watch. Kind of a waste of time.

Very fun and reasonably priced. My kids had a blast. Get there on time for your time slot though so you don't waste any time.

We took our two small toddlers (2 & 3 year old) on a weekday late morning/lunch time and stayed for three hours ( 3 year old wanted to stay longer but it was already past naptime!). There's plenty of shade and chairs when we went but I can see how it could get packed on a weekend. There's also shade in the bigger swimming area but not any in the shallow area where the babies play. There's two slides, one for the babies and one for older kids. Life jackets to borrow but we brought our own, which could come in handy on weekends when it's crowded. There's also a snack bar with plenty of options and ice cream at the front desk. And it's definitely comforting to see all the lifeguards (I counted 9) watching over all the kids and being really attentive about it and actually doing their job. Highly recommend coming here if you have young kiddos! We'll definitely be back!

Very hard review due to the mixed feelings I have about this place. My first impression was over…read morethe phone when I asked about check in time I was told it is 3pm and if you want to check in before it is an additional 25 dollar fee, seriously? yes even if the site is available, ok so what do I do if my GPS takes me there and arrive at 2:40 and she said you still have to pay the 25 dollar fee or you can wait at a nearby Walmart. Gave me the impression that is not a customer friendly campground. I wasn't given the discount because I didn't ask for it, no refunds after the site has been reserved, no credits either. Upon arrival we were waiting to be checked in behind a Class A rig by the gate house and due to the size of the Class A I could not read the tiny sign indicating that if there was nobody at the gate to come inside, finally when that rig moved I realized I had to go inside, another 5 or six minutes wasted after 3pm no big deal but it adds up to my initial disconformity. The place is huge! I have never been to a campground with over 1000 sites not one hundred but one thousand! Very hard water but that is not their fault, city water. Got to our site and it looks ok but but but it is not concrete and it is not gravel, it is a combination of dirt sand and leaves. That tells me the site may have been vacant for several days and the 25 dollar fee is not even justified because I am not rushing employees to clean up the site that just became available the day of my arrival. Dirt and sand, no problem as long as there is no rain because I brought my 14 X 14 rug but guess what it rained all day the day before our departure and it was a bit of a mess even if we take our shoes off inside the coach. We didn't partake in any of the amenities available like the water park and the corn hole etc because of the convention we were attending here and BTW the facility we were given was very nice to accommodate about 80 plus of us. I take one star for the fact that my site wasn't quite level and for the dirt, it is not even gravel for goodness sake. I wouldn't call it a resort unless every site was concrete Would I come back? Yes just because the beach right there a few feet from the sites that are closest to the Information Center where we gather every day for our conference. It turns out they give a discount but they won't offer it to you unless you ASK for it and because I didn't ask at the time I booked they refused to refund because it is run by a corporation with dozens and tens of dozens of employees. Inclined to take two stars but because I had a great time with our new friends at the convention I am leaving this place very happy and wishing to come back when it is not raining ALL DAY with a bloody mess on my shoes with all the dirt and sand. Water park inside for the youngins but the dirt and sand prevents me from calling a five star resort but a four star campground

But not our idea of family friendly - yes there are lots of things to do like beach, Putt/putt and arcade (extra $) but for relaxing, walking or riding bikes it's terrible due to heavy traffic of constant golf carts and vehicles. If you don't bring your own fire ring you have to rent one if you want a campfire. Almost all sites are dirt/gravel and they are super close on all sides.

Lake Waccamaw State Park is located in Columbus County. The Visitor Center was a great place to…read morespend a rainy day! It is filled with history and ecology. It is on the smaller side but filled with interesting information and dedicates a lot of space to the history and artifacts of the Waccamaw Siouan Indian Tribe. The Lake is the largest of the Carolina Bays. The bays are multiple oval-shaped lakes that were likely formed over the last ice age. The Waccamaw Siouan Indian Tribe viewed the lake's formation as the result of a meteor that left a deep crater. The Visitor Center explores that theory, as well as others. Lake Waccamaw was a logging town, and cypress trees were used for shingles. The weather-resistant shingles were chosen for George Washington's home in Mt. Vernon. Fifty years after the Lake Waccamaw Dam was built, the state established a state park. It started at 273 acres, but over time, more land was acquired, and the park is now 2,300 acres. The park is considered a hyper-unique ecosystem because the limestone bluff keeps the water clear, and the alkaline conditions support fish and mollusk species found only here, and nowhere else in the world, such as the Waccamaw spike mussel and the Waccamaw darter fish. They have a fossilized skull of a Balaenula whale that swam through the coastal plain millions of years ago. The Lake Waccamaw State Park is home to black bears, bobcats, carnivorous plants, and American alligators. Though the rain kept me inside this time, the park also features several trails and a scenic boardwalk that I look forward to exploring on a sunny day.

Pulling into the visitor center for this park yielded a non-functioning water fountain. When I went…read moreinside, I didn't find much in the way of exhibitions, and when I asked about Venus Flytraps, the person there didn't know where to find them, which seems odd to me as I can't imagine I'm the first person to ask. The end of the road yielded a parking lot with no shade and a worn boardwalk to the lakefront. The lakefront is nice. The trails were a bit overgrown, and I quickly abandoned my search for rare carnivorous plants. For some users, the park will be quite nice, but I found plenty of room for improvement. Like all NC state parks, it is free.
