Brought my sister and mom here this weekend for both breakfast and lunch, and today, before they left...they wanted to go again! First, the remodel is terrific. Fun collections from Sharkey are imbedded in the table. Although a bit smokey at lunch time, the casino isn't too long of a walk to manage. The servers are truly friendly and having fun...seems that they have been trained to a standard or have simply hired well. The food...this place is a diner with low prices for breakfast and moderate pricing for lunch. Also, the lunch menu offers some nice salads and healthy options. read more

Wow. This is unfortunate. I went there again 10/9/14 for prime rib. After first reading the disappointing news on the menu that the 16 oz "cowboy cut" was now 12 oz (or you can get an 8 oz "cowgirl cut") we were then told that they didn't have any prime rib that day. Mr. Harold Holder. Prime Rib built your casino. And not just any old prime rib either. No. It was Sharkey's World Famous Prime Rib. What a sad, unfortunate day indeed. Now I must ask you. What a delicious breakfast we had here. The server was nice and we bet the Father's Day crowd in. I gambled alittle first and got some champagne...always a plus. The server on the casino floor was fast, I was only seated for a minute and she was there asking if I needed anything, which I believe customer service is SO important. It's like a mini CVI. The food is about the same as Katie's in the Carson Valley Inn. They have really cleaned the place up and given it a more open feeling. The casino area and sports book are much more modern then when the Holder Group was running the place The old kitchen was always fifty but since the remodel it's shiny and new with lots of stainless steel. Staff was all very friendly and service was OK but not excellent. The restaurant has a much more comfortable feel then it did before the remodel. They could improve the coffee, Both CVI and Shakeys have some of the worst coffee in the Valley. It would be nice if the had a kids menu. The Chicken Fried Steak with a biscuit , two eggs and gravy at $5.99 is a good value. The biscuits and gravy could be better but the eggs were nicely cooked. The service was good enough considering they have only been open a week. Prices are a tad bit higher than they were before CVI took over but it is a decent alternative to other restaurants in the area. I'll go again. They have many more slots than the old place did and they did a really nice job utilizing the space that they have to work with. I haven't tried the slots but I did notice that there is a much better variety of machines to chose from. Parking is vastly improved with a larger main lot and also a bigger newly paved parking across the street. I like the old slot machines throughout the restaurant and casino. Used to go to Sharkey's as a kid. The food, especially the salad bar was always good. Quit going when it was sole, but recently visited again after being told it was back to being pretty good. Meat was overcooked, salad bar was very minimal and service left a lot to be desired. There are too many other decent places in the area to waste another visit here :-( read more

My 9 year-old son and I dined there last night. Ross was our server and he was great! My son asked for a sweet teamonade and Ross mixed some sweet tea and lemonade for him--it was perfect! We just returned from the Jackpot diner. It came highly recommended for their prime rib aand lobster dinner..... It was not worth the hour drive we took to get there. This review is for the Jackpot Café. We were super excited to try the new restaurant in town, however, it was a total flop. We sat there for quite a while waiting for a waitress to take our drink order. Although she passed by several times, she never stopped until we asked someone to get her. Service was very slow, but that was fine because they are new and probably still trying to work some kinks out. The food came and it was awful. We ordered a medium-well burger and received a medium-rare burger, so we had to send it back. The balsamic chicken pasta was super oily and lacking in flavor. I had to hunt down the waitress again to ask for my garlic bread that was supposed to accompany the meal. When the garlic bread came, guess what it was lacking....garlic!! It tasted like greasy butter bread. Waitress never came back to fill up my drink. When the bill came, the burger was supposed to be $9.99 and it rang up at $10.99 so WATCH YOUR CHECKS. The food has moved from the decent coffee shop status two steps down to poor quality cafeteria stuff, this has occurred in just the past few months. Not good! They advertise famous for prime rib. I think not!!!! Salad bar was old and wilted, everything out of a can or bag. Vegis were freezer burned, and the steaks that they advertise as prime were tough and old tasting. My husband and I were staying in Gardnerville this past week-end and decided to try Sharkeys. We had gone there many years ago and the meals were terrific but the casino in recent years had gone downhill. We were happy to hear that Sharkeys had been remodeled and decided to try it again. Went there for a lunch (fish & chips) and it was good. Went for breakfast the next morning and again the food was ok. Unfortunately the prime rib we had for dinner was the worst we have ever had.....anywhere! We ordered "medium" and when it came.....first the whole plate was lukewarm....the meat was brown-gray in color and tough. We notified the waitress and asked for a "to-go container" and told her we were going to feed it to our dogs which we did. The waitress said that she had notified the kitchen. This place was recommended to me by a fishing acquaintance as a pretty good bet for breakfast while staying in town....he was right, I've eaten breakfast a couple times, and had a salad with grilled chicken for dinner one night. So far, so good! I ordered Country Breakfast, a couple eggs, choice of meat, taters and biscuits and gravy for about $5.95, a really good deal! The dinner salad was romaine, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers topped with grilled chicken and bacon and what they described as Cajun ranch dressing, I think it was called a BLT salad, and it was pretty good. 16 oz domestic drafts for $1.50 is a really good deal, and I managed to hit a $125 dollar jackpot on one of the slot machines after spending less than $20....... read more

So, the redesigned place is 100% better looks wise. Food is a little steep, but pretty good, with decent portions. We were a little confused at why some burgers come with all the fixings, but the two we ordered did not. We have to have tomatoes and lettuce to make a burger a burger! I have been eating at Sharkeys for about 4years ever since we moved to Gardnerville and the nightly specials are very good. The Prime Rib is always a great choice also. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants good old american food at great prices. I also like how they have added slamon to their menue a healthy choice. Sharkey's has taken a huge turn in the wrong direction. The new restaurant menu is horrible and overpriced for the quality of the food served. The service in both the restaurant and casino are not what they used to be. After ordering my overpriced dinner (which came with fruit that was spoiled) we decided to do a little gambling. They have removed most of the slot machines now. During the four hours we were there, the staff were all sitting around gossiping loudly and not paying attention to the most of the guests in the casino. I was finally offered a drink after more than an hour, which I had to pay for. Really for a red bull but you will hand out beers for free? But yet the gentlemen sitting a few seats down seemed to get preferential treatment as he was brought 4 bottles of beer in less than 30 minutes. Seems he was friends with the staff. Bottom line don't go there if you are looking for good food at a fair price or good service from anyone that works there now. read more

The woman and I were starving and looking for a place to eat last night. We were in the area from California. I usually order 2 meals when I'm super hungry and barely have leftovers. Haha, no I am not fat, I can just eat a lot when I'm really hungry. I ordered one Burger and onion rings. The woman ordered a salad with chicken (I don't know which it was because it wasn't mine). The Burger was literally the worst I have had in my life... the meat was way undercooked and flavorless, pickle tasted like what trash smells like and was very mushy, and the onion rings were bland bordering on disgusting. I could not and did not finish my food as I felt like I was going to throw up at the table. She complained to me about how dry the salad was and took a piece to the side and hoped she didn't get salmonella poisoning. What a terrible experience....
