I am very satisfied. This local shop reproduced a key for my 15 year old SUV which needed a chip, but likely different than chips and car keys in recent models. Excellent! I have an 84 volvo 240DL that I was looking to give to a family member who just needs something to get to work. But when I went to clean it up I realized I lost the trunk keys! The ignition and the trunk have different keys, and thanks to the terrific design of the Volvo trunk there is NO WAY in there. Parts are getting pricey, and harder to find so I really didn't want to have to replace the lock. Sharp's to the rescue! Steve was friendly and got the job done quickly. He managed to make a new key & get me a copy for around $35, in about 10 minutes. I only wish I would've known about these folks sooner. read more

No very professional! I made an appointment with them to come change locks. I then took my kids to a movie and they called while I was in the movie wanting to come that morning instead. I didn't get the message until the afternoon so I assumed they would just keep our scheduled afternoon time. Nope. I sat home all afternoon for NOTHING. They didn't even call. Needed to get my key replaced for my scooter. Called all over town, kept getting told that they couldn't do it because they didn't have the blueprint (scooter keys are cut using a coded kind of "key blueprint", so as long as you have the code, and the locksmith has the matching guide, they can cut it from scratch) for my code. The dealership eventually pointed me to Sharp's, saying that they get their own keys cut there. I called Sharp's, and gave them my key code. They said they could definitely do it. I was caught up in errands and work, so a friend biked down to pick it up for me. $20 seemed like a great deal - and, of course, it was too good to be true. Took the bus to where my scooter was, tried it - key went in, but wouldn't turn. So I called Sharp's again. They said to come back, and they would make another - they had just changed out the wheel, so maybe the first one had been off somehow. So I borrowed a friend's car and drove down. Got another key cut. Made sure to emphasize the brand and model, and double checked that they had the key code right. I should have known to be wary when the guy started walking up and down the wall of keys going "Hmm... yamaha... yamaha... now why don't I see any yamaha?? Oh, here we go. A037... Honda.. should be fine." Yeah. It's not a Honda. But he insisted everything would be fine, blamed the wrong key on the guy who had been working earlier, and cut me a new key. I asked him what I should do if the new key didn't work either. He told me at that point, there would be nothing they could do except drive out the next day, remove my ignition, take it back to the shop, create a whole new key/lock set, then drive back and reinstall the whole thing. It would be almost $200. I took the new key back to my scooter... and it worked! OH WAIT, no it didn't. It didn't work at all. I ended up calling a mobile locksmith, a guy running his own business out of his van, and this guy not only came out to me that very day - two hours after I called, in fact - but when he found that he didn't have the right key blank on him, all he needed to do was pick the lock on my gascap and take it with him for the night. And it wasn't so that he could make a whole new key from the cap - he just wanted to make sure that he did the job right and that the key would work before he had me come all the way back out (my scooter was parked at my job, which is across town from where I live). So, the next afternoon, he came back, with two working keys, put my gas cap back in for me, and took $20 off his price to cover the keys that I paid for from Sharp's. Yes, he discounted my price because I had the misfortune of paying somebody else first. Basically, a dude in his 20s running a key company out of a van showed infinitely better customer service and technical skill than Sharp's, and did it for way less money than they quoted me. I was needing a copy of a key for a lockbox and took it to 6 other key places (several of the Conthrons locations) which were not able to help me, they would look at the key in a puzzled manner and tell me they have never seen anything like it before. I finally stumbled across this place as a last resort thinking they would tell me the same thing. They looked at the key and knew exactly what key was a match. Moved into a house around the corner from Sharp's and made an appointment for the following Wednesday to get the locks in the house changed. I stayed home from work and the people from Sharp's said they were really booked up but would definitely be there sometime Wednesday. Waited all day Wednesday, nobody came. Called around 4pm and they assured that someone would be there by he end of the day. Nothing. Called again and said that if nobody made it out then they would ABSOLUTELY get there first thing in the morning. Again, I live 0.25 miles from this place. Nobody showed up on Thursday. Called again and made ANOTHER appointment - owner was apologetic and said he would make sure he is there tomorrow at noon. To his credit, it was pouring outside and he did show up, but I spent 2 days waiting, assured I had someone coming out to help me, and nothing happened. Not even a courtesy call that they weren't going to be able to get to me. I was pleased with the locks and they work very quickly -- but I think they could have taken some $ off the bill or apologized for the unprofessional standards they hold to make appointments. They are too convenient to use another locksmith but if you make an appointment, you might have to call 3-4x before someone actually shows up. read more

They can make a key for almost anything! home or car ( even chip keys) they are affordable and they even have shaded parking, they are located next to the home of the soup peddler, so you can get some soup or a smoothie while you wait :) With excellent customer service. I own a couple duplexes so I have been to sharps frequently for re keying. The shop is not pretty but no one has ever been openly rude. And the locks have always worked. And so have any keys that were made. Which is more than I can say for the home improvement stores in town. And if you are south, this is one of the few places that does rekeying. Home depot and lowes will only rekey their own locks ( ones that you are about to buy). read more

I called Sharp's after our car was broken in to, and the burglars made off with an extra house key my husband had left in there. Obviously, I needed them to come out quickly! He arrived about an hour after I called, and quickly changed out all the locks, and even fixed one with an unrelated problem that had NEVER worked. He also fixed our wonky door that had also never really lined up, making it impossible for the door to stay closed if it wasn't locked. Very impressed with their service in that appointment, but that wasn't the end of my encounters with Sharp's that day! Later that afternoon I took my 2.5 year old and 10 month old out back to play in the sprinkler since it was 102 out. The instant I shut the door I knew I had messed up - with all the lock adjustments of the morning I had overlooked that the doorknobs were locked... we were locked out. Me and two cranky hot babies. I couldn't even have my husband come let us in, because the keys were new and he only had the old one. So I called Sharp's. He was there within 15 minutes, and had the doors unlocked, and didn't charge us for the visit. I hope we never need to re-key the house again, but if we have any lock and/or key needs, we will definitely use Sharp's again. read more

Used this place twice. The first experience was good, that's why I used them the second time. The first time I had them come to my rental property to rekey locks and add keyless deadbolts. Comparing to other locksmiths, their price is reasonable. They also saved me a few bucks by suggesting not to add an additional keyless deadbolt to the door from the house to the garage, but to replace the existing keyed deadbolt with a keyless. Workmanship overall was very reasonable. By now, I am good at changing keyed deadbolts to keyless myself. But Home Depot and Lowe's don't carry keyed to keyless conversion kits. Called Sharp's to see if they have the kits in stock. They asked me what color. I said gold. They asked me if it is rubbed bronze. I said not sure if rubbed bronze is the same as gold - but it should be gold, that color popular in houses built in the 80's and 90's. I went over there and they had the kit ready for me. Great, I paid and left. Didn't look close enough. But it was rubbed bronze, obviously not the same as gold. Not that I am a big fan of gold, but that is the color used for the other hardware. So now I have one lock that doesn't match color to the rest of the house. LOL Another point of reference. When I called, they asked if I needed just AAA, or both AAA & BBB (ok, I didn't understand what they asked so here I am substituting some AAA / BBB). I said I had an existing keyed deadbolt, and need to change the keyed part to a plate. They said ok, you need both. I still don't know what constitutes AAA & BBB. Anyway, they gave me (and I paid for) more than I needed - probably costed $15 more, not a big deal. I do agree the woman answering the phone doesn't sound super friendly. I don't think she is mean, just don't give people a friendly impression. I think a few brothers own Sharp's. I think I worked with the same guy both times. Anyway, it is a reasonable place. I own an automotive repair business a few blocks from Sharp's. For a few decades we have used them to make vehicle keys, now including the newer electronic anti-theft keys, used them for the locks on the building and gates, used them to make a service call when needed for the programming of anti-theft electronics on a late model vehicle after we have performed repairs to the system. Sharps deserves 6 stars. I was desperate for help with my ignition. I wasn't able to turn my key at all to start my car. I called around to multiple places, some wouldnt offer help, some quoted me rediculous amounts, some told me I would have to wait until Mid-January for service. But not Sharps. I left my car over the weekend to be fixed Monday morning. By 8 am, they were already working on it and called to let me know it was fixed by 11am. The best part was the price. Not only did they not charge me an arm and a leg, it was so cheap i felt like i stole from them. This is truely a local Austin company who cares about their customers and not their wallets. I have an old fashioned lock that needed repair. I made a trip across Austin to Sharp Brothers shop. I showed them pictures of the work required and was assured it was no problem to repair lock. I mentioned that the door knobs were broken. I was told the locksmith carried replacements and tools in their truck. They even showed me samples of the door knobs I could pick from. A trip was scheduled to fix lock at my house. What a disappointment to pay for the trip and partial work and find that because the locksmith was using a new truck, he did not have have all his tools or parts needed to complete the job! No apologies or credit for trip charge. I had to drive across town again to their shop pick up the part missing and had to pay my handyman to install! Terrible service and work ethic.
