Recently (june 2026) we tried Monte Bianco again. The place is even more rundown. The room smelled a little musty and under the carpet, the floor seemed soft like there might be rot. The mattress was comfortable, but sheets are polyester and tangled my hair. The room was uncomfortably hot on a warm night. Really these rooms are too small for a queen bed. There's only one uncomfortable chair, no table. There's a useless chest of drawers that's too wide for the space and who's going to unpack their suitcase for one or two nights? I took photos of the peelling paint job on the door's exterior, and the broken bedside lamp. The dome light on the ceiling - right over the bed - was painfully bright and since the bedside lamp didn't work the first night, we were stuck using that. In the bathroom, there were not enough hooks to hang up things like towels, a bathrobe, or a toiletry bag. The shower has plenty of water, but the pressure blasting out of the spigot is really harsh. They would benefit from adding some kind of shutoff or flow adjustment valve, both in terms of guest comfort and water usage in a drought-prone area. The "Garden" is a patch of weeds. I do not mean wildflowers. I mean weeds growing up through gravel, some sad chairs, an ashtray, and a cornhole setup. The parking lot is also weedy. Parking is, as other guests have mentioned, odd. I wouldn't want to park there in the snow because of the way the stairs are set up as a tripping hazard, with the rooms opening out directly into the weather with no overhang. As I've mentioned in a prior review elsewhere, this place might feel like a luxury for someone's who's been hiking the PCT, but it was not comfortable or particularly worth the money despite the budget pricing. I think the owners should REALLY talk to a consultant or designer about laying out the rooms for better efficiency and guest comfort.

Before you book here then get all sad later because it wasn't what you are usually accustomed to, read a few reviews and decide if this is your cup of tea. When I searched up a place to lay my head earlier this week I wanted to stay in the sweet new place downtown with the clean pretty people and the baked goods and coffee downstairs. But I was only going to be in the room to sleep and I was alone and even though I love me some pretty people watching I decided to sleep here instead and have coffee and baked goods over that other way in the morning. Because there are no baked goods at Mt. Bianco. There isn't much of any amenity, actually, other than the staples - an abundance of fluffy towels, a comfortable bed and comfortable pillows (why so often the latter is overlooked places I have zero idea - but pillows are clearly important here), a TV that generally works but it's small, an AC unit I didn't try, less than a 10 minute slow walk downtown for vittles and wildlife. Price point is half what Best Western wanted and a fraction what the new clean trendy place downtown was looking for (truth be told, I will stay there one day when I'm in the company of the one that grooves on the abundant amenities). This place works. It's simple. The lockbox key and texts to instruct/affirm are straightforward. It's old school and sometimes when the time is right old school is precisely what gets it done.

The place is updated, clean, and much nicer overall than the Best Western, which hasn't had the same care. The real highlight, though, is the staff. Jade and Tasha are absolutely wonderful. I managed to lock myself out late at night, and Tasha came to the rescue and had my door opened in just five minutes. Outstanding hospitality, a superior location, and a clean, comfortable stay. I was notified there would be construction from 9 to 5 which wasn't a problem for me as I was arriving after 5 and leaving before 9. What was a problem was that the parking lot was roped off so you had to park on the outer edges rather than in front of the room, I was in 18. This was a bit of an issue for me as one of the reasons I booked was that just coming off of a knee replacement I wanted a room that I could park directly in front of. If they had disclosed this, I would have gone somewhere else. Secondly, the pillow situation was pretty horrible, old feather pillows which flattened down to nothingness, no support at all. The heating unit was one of those old wall units with a really loud fan, so couldn't keep that on. Hot and cold water difficult to get in shower, so either scald or lukewarm. there was no space to put items above sink on tiny shelf. I would not stay there again.

However the clerk which I believe was the owner, was very helpful. After helping me to calm down we worked it through and figured out that my daughter-in-law had actually booked me under her name that's why we cannot find the reservation. I do have a walker and was not able to enter into the restroom with my walker which made it difficult, nor was there a lot of room between the bed and the microwave / fridge for my walker but that was at least doable. However both the owner and his wife were very helpful and very kind! The wife and I could not figure out how to get the TV on, and one quick call to the husband and it was up and running. Furthermore what impress me the most, was after checking out and getting my taxi to the Greyhound station, the wife came running up to me. She had left the hotel and followed me to the Greyhound station, explaining that I had left my medication in the fridge along with my phone cord. She went above and beyond and I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody.

In that search I located this lodge. I was kind of leery as I thought it might have been on a main road. Well, it's not! It's on a side street off the main roadway. We booked cabin #7. Cabin #7 faces the roadway where the parking lot is. Believe it or not, we could not hear people in the parking lot. Cabin #7 is two floors. On the first floor there is the only bathroom, a small kitchenette area, and a king bed. Upstairs there are two extremely comfortable queen beds! Literally the most comfortable bed I've slept in! The only draw back was the people sharing the adjacent wall. I believe their stairs are located where ours were in the cabin because we could hear them running up and down it all night. Once they went to bed it wasn't an issue. This Lodge is a self check in and out which was nice! Easy to do! The lodge is close to everything! McCloud Lake was fun for kayaking and McCloud Falls were right up the roadway. Highly recommend breakfast at White Mountain Cafe and dinner at Axe & Rose Brew house. We will be coming back and staying here again.

Chose not to report it to the owner as it was a minor issue. On the second day, we were in the room around 5:30 PM and noticed our door knob moving. We checked the window and noticed it was a shirtless man trying to open our door. We loudly said, "excuse me what are you doing?" and the man walked away. We texted the owner about this incident and asked if they could have this checked out. The owner responded by saying, "It was very likely another guest confused at which cabin was his. The area around the lodge is extremely safe." No indication that they took the time to review camera footage or checked out the area. We later confirmed ourselves that the man was a guest in the room next to us as he was outside next to his room. Later that same day, we were about to leave the room again and noticed that a key was placed on the #5 outside our door. We checked the key and confirmed that it works to unlock and lock our door. We were never informed that another key would be placed outside our door and we do not know how long it was sitting there. Anyone could have saw the key and used it to open our cabin. We immediately notified the owner and their response was that their staff was onsite to service other cabins and may have grabbed an extra key to our cabin. Owner didn't seem to care that an extra key was available to anyone who walked by our cabin. We expressed that we were concerned for our safety, but the owner didn't show that they cared about an extra key just lying around for anyone to grab.

The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, stove, microwave and coffee pot. there are dishes in the cabinets. These used to be fulltime live in apartments so they're not your typical motel room. Steve, the owner is very friendly and accommodating. The town of McCloud was build by the McCloud Mill family for the loggers and sawmill workers who would come to work from spring through fall each year milling trees. Once that industry died out the town has survived through other means such as tourism. McCloud in particular is known for putting on some fantastic festivals through their active Chamber of Commerce and other organizations. Their annual Mushroom Festival brings in over 60,000 people from all over California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada for the weekend. It offers a variety of Music, Food, Wine, a mushroom farmers market, a series of educational Mushroom classes by professional mycologists from all over the world. And a Crafters/Art market featuring unique, one of a kind and stunning works of art. At the base of Mt. Shasta, McCloud is 3.5 miles from the town of Mt. Shasta. McCloud Falls is 11 miles away, don't miss those. Medicine Lake is a sacred place nearby and also a good place to fish. Check out the McCloud Chamber of Commerce for updated events.

Our unit was one of 3 big ones that has two bedrooms, a living room, bathroom, and kitchenette. It has a small porch and trees out back. It's conveniently located to all the beautiful nature spots, the owner is incredibly nice. It is not a high end sterile place, the decor is dated, but in a really cute way. It feels like a home, not like a hotel. Also, price here is so freaking reasonable it seems unreal. It was midweek when we stayed, but the cost was $80! Every other place I called was much much more, and I promise you they would not have been as sweet, homey, or quaint.
