They installed a 240 volt outlet in our garage for charging our EV. They quickly scheduled an appointment to give me a quote for the work, which was $900 to $1050. They arrived right on time and finished the work in a couple of hours. I got the bill a few days later, and it was $706. Plus, they are affiliated with Qualified Electricians PDX. If you sign up at their website (https://www.qualifiedelectricianspdx.org), they will send you a coupon in the mail for $200 worth of electrical work. With the coupon, I paid $506. Also, they are HONEST! since my panel is full, I told them that I would need a subpanel for the outlet. However, they told me that they could replace two breakers in the panel with a quad breaker, making a subpanel unnecessary. One of the most unprofessional companies I've ever dealt with. Took no less than 3 trips out to get the job done correctly due to their work. The comical part is that they complained and argued with me that part of the job was more difficult than they thought it would be, and argued that I asked them to do it because I didn't want to (which was exactly right). After FINALLY getting it right, they were extremely rude, argumentative and unprofessional to my wife and I. There are too many better options out there than to settle for these guys. I recently did some work on my kitchen and needed some unexpected electrical help. In my experience I have found it to be especially challenging to find an electrician that isn't booked out for weeks, and that doesn't charge an insane fee. I reached out to Shaw West, and they sent out a tech the very next day. They were on-time, and easy to communicate with. They charge by the hour, which is amazing, since I had previously gotten outrageous estimates for per-item charges. The guy did such a good job on the kitchen, that I ended up hiring him to work on different projects in the house for the next three days. He cleaned up the electrical work in the kitchen, installed a power source so I could install an island range hood, re-worked my electrical panel, installed a new outlet, decommissioned four power sources, and installed four can lights in my studio. Insanely over priced. They also DO NOT honor quotes or estimates. It always costs much much more than initially estimated. They charged me almost $3,000 to install a hot tub hook-up. I moved out to Portland from Indiana it cost $750 to do the SAME job in Indiana. They quoted me $1450 and it was more than double the quoted price. The electrician who performed the work took 4 trips to Home Depot and was unprepared to complete the job when he arrived. They billed me hourly for the time they wasted going to HD because they didn't show up with the proper materials. It took my electrician in Indianapolis 4 hours to complete the entire hook up. It took the guy out here almost 14 hours. Additionally on another job (booked at the same time a HUGE MISTAKE BY ME) for my contractor business, they quoted 12K to upgrade an electrical box and put in a few outlets on a residential flip. The final invoice was $18,500 and they put a lien on the property even though we paid in full. These guys are terrible. Literally go with anyone else. read more

This company sent a guy to come out to my house and brought my kitchen and bathroom outlets up to code. They also fixed my porch lights that had a malfunctioning switch, and the flicker my bathroom light had. Most importantly he dug a trench, installed two ground wires, and threaded it through the wall to the breaker box via the crawlspace.. All so I can get my pipes replaced. Fella worked for 8 sweaty, cramped, highly laborious hours without even a lunch break. They got this done within about a week of me requesting a quote and for a significant amount less than 2 competitors. I highly recommend their service! read more

I needed a quick fix since I had a light fixture/junction box full of wires and couplings that I accidentally unscrewed. This caused two other light fixtures to go out. We had guests coming the next day. I reached out to Shaw late at night on a Monday and they had someone at my house before noon the next day. As someone who has many years of home ownership behind him I have had occasion to call on the trades for work on a house. Like many other home owners I have had the experience of plumbers, electricians. contractors, etc. not coming when they said they would, or not coming at all. I called Shaw West on the recommendation of a friend when a question arose about an electrical outlet. They sent a licensed electrician who came when they said he would who thoroughly checked the existing outlet. It turned out to be a technical question. The owner researched the issue, prepared a detailed report explaining their findings, and the question was resolved. I just moved into a new house with a partially finished basement. Perfect place to start my man cave. There was one problem - there are no outlets down there. I consider myself to be pretty handy with plumbing and carpentry, but I don't mess with electricity. I got a solid rate so I pulled the trigger without a quote (another company wanted me to pay 89 bucks to come and quote that would be rolled into the job if I decided to go with them). Shaw West didn't charge for a quote but as I said, the rate was good so I went with that. Anyway, the electrician showed up about 15 minutes late but he was amazing. I asked him to give my dogs treats so they would know he was a friend. Handed him the treats, and he was like 'dude, I understand.' he finished the job really quickly. Installed two outlets in the basement, added a breaker to my panel and ran the conduit. These guys are pros. They got back to me super quick on yelp and have a solid rate. I am a proud Electrician that works for Shaw West Electric and I want to respond to Edward F. misleading and inappropriate comments. I will not stand idly by and allow Edward F. slander the company for which I work. For starters, we are a very small company that strives to achieve the very best results in the electrical trade and to accomplish the highest standards in electrical work for our valued customers. Edward F. implies that we do not communicate with one another or possibly to our customers. This is totally misleading. I was assigned to change the smoke detectors in an apartment in which he is a tenant. Therefore, the request for replacing smoke detectors my have come from him, but the owner of the apartment building is ultimately responsible for the condition of the building and paying the bills. Edward F. is just a hurdle to get through. I did call Edward an hour in advance before the appointment, to inform him, that I couldn't make it and wanted to reschedule. I also informed him the I was at another customers' home working on a Circuit Breaker panel in which I had disassembled. In other words, the power is off in the entire home. I informed him that I couldn't just leave the current customers' home to replace smoke detectors, despite replacing smoke detectors is rather a simple job. However, my priority was to finish the work at hand, to finish reassembly of the circuit breaker panel, and to get electrical power back on for my customer. Any logical person with a half of brain​ would understand. It's called managing customer expectations. So, if Edward F. don't understand priorities regarding electrical work, then I can't help him or anyone else who don't understand priorities. I found Shaw West on Yelp, after reaching out to several electricians. Donny at Shaw West was the only one who inquired further about my issue (rather than just trying to schedule an appt), as well as offering suggestions about things to check that may have saved me from having to need an electrician. I very much appreciated the further electrician intel, as well as communication about my particular problem. I was able to get an electrician appt at a time that worked for me within a few days, and the electrician, Tom, came with the part I needed. He even inquired to see if I needed any other services besides the initial request (since the fix was under an hour). Tom was great, very communicative, and fixed my problem in a jiffy. My only slight negative was that I was charged an extra travel fee (I'm in central Portland) and wasn't told about the fee ahead of time. However, their pricing is very reasonable compared to 'in town' electricians. It was still a 'wash' in my favor cost wise to use Shaw West. If I need any electrical work again, Shaw West will make the top of my list. read more

I find it hilarious that the other reviewer on here decided to leave a totally harmful score for this business while not even bothering to elaborate, so I decided to help turn it around, since their accusation could not be further from the truth. Not only are the employees of this company extremely professional, the president of the company, David Selby, answers the phone himself and personally came out to my home to draw up a quote for me. He felt terrible that we'd been screwed over by a bad electrician, and so when we actually had him do the work he bid out he actually took almost 50% off of the total bill for us!
