Saw that a La Mesa location opened, and I've been wanting to try the food truck since Guy Fieri gave it his stamp of approval. So went in and ordered the wrap with Guy's face next to it. Got my order and drove home to eat and started eating and realized this is the WRONG wrap!! And while the Greek Wrap wasn't terrible, it wasn't what I wanted. That pretty much ruined the experience and I probably won't be back. Disappointing. read more

This was my first time dining at Shawarma Guys, and it definitely did not disappoint. One of the biggest highlights for me is that they offer gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options--which is a huge plus for someone like me who has celiac disease. I had been in Tijuana earlier in the day and hadn't eaten since 8:00 AM, so by the time we made it to La Mesa, I needed something safe and satisfying before the long drive home. I'm still new to managing celiac, so I try to be as careful as possible. When we arrived, we were greeted promptly by staff. They were polite, welcoming, and offered great recommendations. I explained my allergies, and they were quick to suggest substitutions, including a gluten- and dairy-free salad that featured garbanzo beans--it was flavorful and a nice surprise! I ordered both the Chicken Shawarma Bowl and the Wagyu Beef Shawarma Bowl. The flavors were amazing--everything was well-seasoned, fresh, and cooked to perfection. While the bowls are on the smaller side and a bit pricey, they are filling and definitely satisfying for one person. Just something to keep in mind if you're hoping to share. We also got a side of fries (per my mom's request), and they were delicious--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. On top of that, we tried their Philly Wagyu Fries (I believe that's what they're called). I ordered them dairy-free by removing the cheese and gravy. They came topped with bell peppers, onions, their flavorful garlic sauce paste (which they confirmed is both gluten- and dairy-free), and juicy Wagyu beef. These fries were impressive--not soggy at all, and the portion was large enough to share between two people (or one if you're really hungry!). They don't have a soda fountain, but they do carry a good selection of bottled drinks and refreshers. The restaurant itself was spotless, including the restroom, which I always appreciate. Service was top-notch--the staff even checked in with us after our meal and kindly cleared our plates. It's clear they take great pride in both their food and service. One small downside is that parking can be limited, but there's usually street parking nearby if the lot is full. All in all, this was a fantastic experience. The food was flavorful, the service was exceptional, and the staff went above and beyond. There's a small parking lot and thankfully it wasn't busy when I went there, although there was a lot of online/phone order pick ups which is a great sign for a business! I ordered a chicken and beef plate, which came with rice, tabouli, hummus, and pita. There was a generous portion and it was a great way to sample the two main proteins they serve. The hummus was smooth and creamy and the tabouli was some of the best I've had - I don't normally eat it as the parsley is usually too rough and overpowering, but this was finely diced and the herb was a complimentary flavor, not a distracting focus. The interior space is a bit on the small side, but there weren't a lot of people inside when I ate there so it wasn't too bad. I ordered a beef and chicken shawarma plate with fries. Next time, I'm gonna axe the fries. They were VERY salty. Otherwise, the plate was very good. The garlic paste on the side helped add some more flavor to the rice and meat. The menu was easy to follow and organized by plates, bowls, wraps, cheesesteaks, pitas, sandwiches, salads, sides, desserts and combos. We ordered the Waygu Beef shawarma wrap, the chicken shawarma salad with hummus, pita bread. Between these two dishes, I really enjoyed the chicken shawarma salad with hummus but I'm not discounting the Waygu Beef shawarma, it was good and very filling for an adult. I've been to Osaka and Tokyo, Japan so my standards for Waygu and Kobe beef are very high. I also ordered the lemon chicken wings, these were very crispy, crunch, hot, fresh and flavorful. I will order the chicken wings again. We wrapped our lunch up with an order of baklava. My standards for baklava are high because I've been to a voluminous amount of work potlucks and parties from all walks of life and backgrounds. The baklava was a miss for me, I like my baklava infused with rose flavored sweetener. Will I get the baklava here again, yes.
