I never write reviews, but Shawarma king in Castroville absolutely blew me away. The falafel is out of this world -- crispy, fresh, and packed with flavor. The place is spotless (seriously, one of the cleanest spots I've ever seen), and the staff is beyond kind. Luke-man was incredible -- he treated us like family and even gave my daughter a lollipop when he heard her birthday had just passed. I've lived here my whole life, and I'm telling you: don't let the fact that it's connected to a gas station fool you. This place is a GEM. Yes, this place really is the bomb! I always stop here when I'm leaving the Monterey Peninsula to get a big lucious beef/lamb shawarma wrap to eat in the car. This restaurant is in a gas station, so no seating. Don't let the humble surroundings fool you...the food is really great. After reading all of the great reviews, we decided to give this place a try. So glad we did! We both ordered the chicken wrap and both of us agreed that the food was flavorful and had some great "crunch" from the veggies. The baklava was decadent! We ate outside at the picnic table and were even able to enjoy an after dinner smoke at our table! Everyone was friendly who worked there and treated us like we were in a fancy restaurant! Don't be afraid that this place is inside a Chevron. The customer service and food is five star! I went in to pick up dinner tonight for the first time. Tried the chicken shawarma plate and the beef and lamb. Everything we got was delicious! The pita was still warm when we got home. Nice thick pita and portions are generous. 3 of us couldn't finish our plates. I also ordered the Greek French fries. They were also a hit! The garlic sauce and feta on top of the crunchy fries was some of the best Greek fries I've ever had. Speaking of generous, the owner gave us 4 baklava to take with our meals and let me try the samosa for free. Kindness and great customer service really go a long way in this day and age. I can't wait to try the falafel next time. I'm happy to support business that care about their customers. The plates come with rice, salad, pita and hummus or babaganoush, They make everything themselves, except for the baklava which comes from San Jose. I'm so glad this place is nearby. Disclaimer: The restaurant or rather kitchen is in a gas station. So with that being said there is no tables for dining in. In my opinion this no big deal, however, I believe this place should be a sit down restaurant for how amazing it is. I ordered a spicy chicken shawarma wrap with fries. Everything was made to order, so some patience is required but it is worth it. I also got some baklava which was heavenly. The service was phenomenal. Alongside myself, I was with my family and we all chopped it up in the gas station. Conversation was nice and they even threw in some free pastries. All in all the experience was great. Forgot to take pictures of our wraps. They were decent wraps. Looks like their really trying and seems to be a poplar place in the evening. I was recommended this place by my dad and it was great! It's easy to overlook since it's in a gas station, but they have a sparkling clean kitchen. We had the lamb/beef shawarma, falafel, and baklava. The shawarma was delicious and came with a warm wrapped pita bread. The olives in the salad and hummus were a nice touch. The falafel was hot and seemed freshly fried. The baklava was a sweet dessert. The staff were very nice. All in all a great experience and we will definitely make more stops here!
