Poor excuse for a grocery chain. I went to the store on Ash Wednesday to purchase the Haddock on sale. The display in the fish section was empty of the haddock, looked for someone to ask about any more. That was a lost cause, no one around to help and a sign that said I'm on break be back in 10 minutes. What kind of a business is this? I went to customer service to voice my opinion and was told they only had 1 clerk for the fish/meat dept. My first visit to Shaw's Market, Burlington, Cambridge Road was on June 26th, I was in the area at Lahey Clinic. I first went into the Ladies Room. It was impecably clean!!!! I have never been in a public store's restroom that was "soooooo" clean. Kuddos to the manager and whoever is in charge of the Ladies Room. Then I walked through the store in search of my items. Very clean store, well organized, shelves were full of stock. I was able to make my selections timely. As I entered the check out line a kindly gentleman offered for me to go ahead of him. I declined as I only had a few items. Then as I entered another check out aisle a female customer insisted I go ahead of her. I said to her, " I wished I lived in the area I'd shop here all the time - the customers are so nice." What a pleasant experience shopping at your Shaw's Supermarket. Keep up the Great Job!! Awful deli. Went to Shaws tonight to grab some roast beef and cheese from the deli. (It was the kind that they prepare earlier). Swiss cheese was FULL of mold. Roast beef was full of gristle and seemed really old as well. Swiss cheese date said it was packaged 3 days ago. I really think they changed the dates. I want to give props to Carlie in the Shaw's Burlington bakery! She has made cakes for my kids birthdays and they are not only tasty by nature but she has put the biggest smile on my girls faces by creating custom designs at an affordable price. Furthermore, I ordered a custom cake for a recent birthday party - a beautiful doll dress style layered cake and when my husband brought the cake home, I realized that the cake was not tall enough for the doll & I almost had a meltdown just hours before the event BUT I took the cake and the doll back to the store and in about 20 minutes she added another layer of cake and decorated it so that it looked like there had never been a problem!!! Over the years, I've always had good experiences and been very happy with the cakes but this heroic event deserves a public ovation! Outside of the bakery, I am always assisted by the evening store manager when I drag in late, tired from work, and just need help finding something quickly. I also like that the aisles are wide and the store isn't so crowded that I feel like I have no personal space or that I have to push my way through. I appreciate that I can find products that are innovative, I'm usually sad to see them go but happy that I at least got got enjoy them for a while. Finally, I always appreciate the nice selection of floral arrangements and gifts. I can always count on driving by my local Shaws to find a nice little something so I don't have to show up empty handed. read more

I had an amazing experience with a wonderful young man in produce. His name was Marco. He went out of his way to insure that great customer service was offered to me. This store is on its final leg. When you enter this shaws location there is something about the atmosphere that is just so bland, maybe it's the apocalyptic nature of the store; it's so run down, always has a rancid odor lingering in the air and the amount of business going on is lacking. Management, specially store director, shouldn't be in a rank of high authority at all but instead are better off being pampered reality TV show stars because they are just a bunch of cartoon characters, terrible service. This review is for Shaw's in Burlington only. I have had no problem at all in the Norwood, Dedham or Cambridge Shaw's in the past years. I went to the Burlington Shaw's. There were few cashiers open and the deli department had only one person working behind the counter so I left without waiting in a long line. The management in this area of the state is not doing their job and not treating their workers well if every Dept. Including fresh veggies or canned foods had no one available for questions. That was the last time I went to that location in Burlington, over a year ago, and I wouldn't go there again. read more

Service here eats it and eats it hard. I've been here all different times of the day. I used to grab my lunch here at least once a week, usually salad bar . Selection there is adequate, fresh fixins and a good variety. Then the dread sets in as I turn the corner to see if they have one, two or no aisles open for service. (No seriously I've shown up there and I thought I walked into some post apocalyptic/ last man on Earth movie) If I've been lucky enough to track down a human I'm greeted with a sigh, no eye contact and the feeling that I'm putting this particular person in a tough spot because they actually have to work. Same person almost without fail every time. Sometimes there's a 10 item or less register open, but that's a pleasant rarity. More often than not I'm behind two full carts at the only open register waiting to buy my salad and water. 2 stars for the quality of food and cleanliness of the store , but negatives for the atrocious service read more

Large, clean store with well stocked shelves. I have noticed a few people complain about produce. I cannot comment because I don't buy my produce at the supermarket generally. We get that from farmer's markets almost exclusively. Shaw's is a place we go with coupons. Why? Well, they have higher average prices but drop a larg handful of items on sale weekly. This, paired with coupons, means you get super good deals. Better yet, they double all coupons up to $1 and will allow four of the same coupon to be doubled per transaction. Our year to date savings is $250+ (yes, it's February 17 and YTD is from Jan 1) and we have spent around $125 out of pocket. At some other locations we have had checkout workers seem annoyed by the coupons. At this location I can honestly say w haven't noticed that at all. In fact, just last night they went and checked on a price, realized it was an old tag, removed the tag, but still honored the price. They didn't HAVE to do that; the tag clearly had an end date which I didn't bother to check. Wonderful customer service in my book. read more

This place needs to be put out of its misery. The store is dirty and disorganized. Do they even check the expiration dates on the food they sell?... I don't think so. The people that work there are nice, but it seems that they are just as frustrated with the poor quality. 1 out of 3 self check-outs work if you're lucky which means you need to stand behind a full carriage or two just to buy a pint of cream. Unbelievably massive. They always have regular and sale items stocked. They have a cute florist area with a good selection of flowers for many occasions. It is always clean and every aisle spacious. I love the salad bar here. It has many options. I love the bakery. Very nice cakes and good selection of breads (french, ciabatta, rounds, loafs, sesame, poppy seed bagels, etc). Wonderful operating hours. Open from 7-11pm everyday except Sunday when it is 7-10pm. Can't beat that on a Sunday evening in the 'burbs! read more

Market Basket is about 10 minutes away. Prices are significantly higher than Market Basket so Shaws is all about the convenience. I use it when I need one or two items during the week and don't want to deal with the craziness of Market Basket. read more

I go here once and awhile to pick up some items I can't find at MB, Their prices are high and customer service is non-existent , I was in yesterday and apparently they were having problems with the electricity as half of the lights were out ..but not a problem on the two cash registers that were open there was a substantial line at both and of course you get to bag your own groceries or have to wait for the cashier to do it ...I don't understand how they can charge what they do and not hire enough people to take care of the check out ????? read more

I want to like this Shaw's. I really do, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't. They have everything going for them too. Clean, large, reasonably organized store in a prime Burlington location in the town center, close to many neighborhoods. Too bad they just can't seem to get it together. First of all, they can be ridiculously expensive, especially if you are used to shopping at the much cheaper grocery chain, "M.B." That being said, you can snap up some pretty decent sales if you shop the circular. I've noticed many people seem to only shop there for sale items. My main issue with them is FRESH food. My kids love a certain brand of chocolate milk. Week after week, it's expired, sitting in the dairy case, waiting for some poor shopper to unwittingly buy it. This is even after a store employee was informed about the problem. Sure, they were apologetic, but next week, still expired! How does that even happen?! What really put me over the edge is they had chicken breasts on sale for 99 cents a pound! What a sale! I grab quite a few packages to stock up. I come home to cook dinner and the chicken is slimy and reeks!! Now I'm stuck with four packages of rancid chicken, unless I bring the disgusting packages back and demand a refund. This is nothing new. My own mother and others have complained about buying rancid meat there. Lesson learned, never buy meat there again. The produce is also a crapshoot. You best be checking all strawberries, blueberries, etc for mold unless you want a surprise when you get home. So tired of that!! I'm sick of paying a premium for bad food. Sure it's convenient, but it's worth the drive to pay cheaper prices for edible groceries. I will say the only bright spot in this location is the Osco pharmacy located in Shaws. Most workers are fine and just try to get the job done, and some customer service reps are very nice and helpful, but the overall competence of the store and the unthoughtfulness of the management is incomprehensible! The prices for the items are absurd, and the quality isn't any better than anywhere else! Why go here when you can spend half the price for the same exact thing at market basket!? Insane! I am extremely disappointed, and feel sorry for select workers there as it is hard to find a job these days and they have to put up with the mindless and overarching management. Shaw's in Burlington! Well the store itself is fine, the pot holes getting into this area are ridiculous! Spoke with the store manager today and his response "yeah we knew about it a week ago" And? Maybe take care of the area. Very dangerous spot since it is also the entryway to the drive thru for Dunkin Donuts and the exit for the new bank in the area. Cars have to go around these and soon there is going to be a good fender bender! Quick fix...place a metal plate over the area, they could do it properly when the weather improves.
