When I came into shaws to get some cream cheese for my sunday morning bagels i was met with absolutely disgusting black mold EVERYWHERE. Thankfully there was an employee Ryan who ensured me that they were in the process of cleaning them. He was very friendly and even helped me fine the product I needed. Overall not a terrible store, atmosphere was okay, the employee I talked to was very friendly and helpful so that made my experience better. read more

I have no clue how someone hired Kim to work at a grocery store, let alone in management of customer service. She doesn't know a darned thing about customer service. She is rude to customers and she doesn't know corporate policy on the basics of things. And there is some guy named Sy at the deli counter who has his mask on his lip. Either have it on or off, but if on put it all the way up. And he was on the phone when I got there and told ME to wait. WT*. There is is a cashier, older caucasian woman, who is good at first grade math but doesn't know the store specials and is just plain weird and slow I doubt I will come back, will just go more out of my way to shop at Trader Joe's in Acton and at mArket Basket and Whole Foods. Prices are horrible too but that's to be expected I guess. They need more competition in Groton. Luckily I drive. read more

It's not this location in particular but apparently the Shaw's chain in general. I used to love that Shaw's didn't require a loyalty card. Any schmuck off the street could get the sale price. Not sure how this place stays in business with Market Basket down the road and Whole Foods in Westford... when in a pinch and feeling lazy we'll stop by cause its 5 mins. closer than MB in Littleton, however tonight was last straw. Not only are their prices double on some items and their selection produce/meats horrible, tonight we go to the seafood counter and the entire case is empty...mind you its 6:45 and the place closes at 10pm. We ask the guy behind the counter where all the product is and he says he just finished putting stuff away and walks off. Just drive the extra 5 mins and go to MB. read more

We are long-time customers who shop locally. We were treated so rudely today by the personnel at the Western Union desk for no particular reason. The staff increasingly treats customers as nuisances, and the meat and produce selections have really gone downhill. We regularly pick through expired loaves of bread to find fresh. If Shaws is looking for bankruptcy, you've found the right branding and operating model. read more

It is incredibly disappointing at 6:15pm when you run out to get a couple of lobsters for dinner on a beautiful evening only to discover the seafood department is closed till 7:00pm. Like they are a separate store within a store. Great plan for turning off customers and giving an incentive to always just drive right by and go to Market Basket. Since Cerberus Capital and their investment partners bought Shaws and Star Market I've noticed a significant reduction in overall prices at our.local Groton, MA Shaws. They have awesome specials on selected items too. For instance recently.I bought a spiral ham for only.$12 on sale for $1.49/pound from $3.49/pound. All their staff are friendly & helpful. Their deli's $5 freshly made foot long subs are the.best deal around, Compared to a well known sub sandwich fast food chain, these subs are loaded and so much more delicious with freshly cut deli meats. I only wish they would carry Ayer transfer station trash bags along with the Groton & Littleton ones they carry. read more

I went to retrieve some balloons yesterday for my father's birthday party . Understandably the order got lost . When I arrived , the staff hadn't a recollection of the order I placed an hour and a half earlier ( I know they were busy ) . Luckily, the friendly and energetic employee Quinn came to the rescue . He quickly took care of my order with a smile and a very positive and friendly temperament . I Paid for the balloons at the register and he handed them to me as I walked out the door . just want to say how impressed I was with Shaws in Groton. I had ordered three party trays and a graduation cake and I have to say they did not disappoint. Every piece of fruit on that tray was delicious, and ripe to perfection! The vegetable tray was gorgeous and the stuffed peppers with humus and dressing was an added treat. I also ordered the large croissant sandwich tray. It was perfect and elegant. Finally the cake was fantastic! We had a wonderful party and everyone was asking "who did your platters?" When I told them Shaw's in Groton they couldn't believe it. I was so pleased with the service and quality and highly recommend them. read more

I usually hate Shaw's, but this is the biggest, nicest, cleanest, and best Shaw's I have ever seen. The selection is utterly unbeatable. I saw things here I've never seen before: Single-serve pieces of meat (chicken, beef) - perfect for the single guy, or guy with no friends! I've never seen such a large grocery store before. So I have to admit I really shop here for one reason and one reason alone. They carry all my favorite British candies which are a total weakness for me. Aero bars? Would you like original or mint cause they have both. Rowntrees Fruit gums? Oh god yes. Real Smartees? Yep those too. Now granted these all cost like $3 per candy which is highway robbery plain and simple, but I just don't care. As for the rest of the store its like every other Shaws. Huge selection of things that not all other stores carry at inflated prices. Tell me how they can justify things like milk and ice cream being $2 more than they are at Hannaford's. Plus if you don't bring your stupid Shaws card with you don't get any of the sales which just annoys me. I also have to say their organic selections are pitiful considering how big they are. read more

I don't typically shop at Shaw's, the main reason being that the prices tend to be pretty high. But every now and then I find myself at the Groton store, and I have to say their grocery selection is the best around. The store is large, with wide, well-lit aisles. They always have everything I am looking for, and tend to fill the gaps of the other supermarkets. If I'm looking for a specific product, Shaw's will usually have it when the others don't. I have been impressed so far with their produce. They also have a sizable organic section, plus a great variety of ethnic products. The clean, upscale feel of the store and huge variety of products is probably why the prices are higher than places like Hannaford or Market Basket, so I can't justify shopping here every week. But at least I have a nearby supermarket that I can count on for those harder to find items. read more

I am a fan of the pizza they make at the deli section. It is inexpensive compared to the local pizza places and very tasty! They will make what you want. The buffalo chicken, onion and red pepper is the best. They do turn the ovens off at 7:00 so if you are going to have pizza, get your order in early. Otherwise, I do find the store to have high prices on a lot of staples. Produce is good, but below par with Donelan's in Littleton. It is the closet store to me so I cruise the specials when I drop in for the ingredient that I am missing. read more

Shaws Groton is a good grocery store. I live in Littleton, which the only local choice is (really over priced) Donelans and Westford Market Basket - which I refuse to enter. The Groton Shaws has basically everything we need for a family of five. Often they run out of Gluten Free items they usually stock and the pharmacy people are sometimes grumpy. The rest of the store is well managed, clean, competent employees etc. The recent re-org of the store is a bit baffling and there is at least 0.1 miles of cereal isle! Produce is spotty at times but quite good in the fruit categories, apples, melons, berries. When i use my Shaws card, I often save more than $40 for a typical week, with coupons even more. There are also phenomenal deals on Life Water and SoBe products that I always take advantage of. Highly recommended. read more

Update to my 5 star Aug 2012 review... Disappointed! Over the past year and a half, I've been grossed out by Shaw's twice. Not just unhappy - grossed out. The 2lbs of ground beef in the black tray bought yesterday was a decoy. A thin layer of fresh meat encased a bloated inside of old brown meat. It was not on sale or a special - full price beef. I was hungry enough, broke enough, and brave enough to make a burger. I couldn't tell if it was cooked or not. I take it well done. I cut it in half and it looked cooked. Nope. Just raw brown innards from who knows how long ago. It's going back to the store tomorrow along with a photo of what they sold me. I live about 4 seconds from this Shaw's and am in there frequently. We rented a carpet cleaner here and when we got it to our house the inside was filthy, and it was clogged with dog hair. My husband had to take some of it apart to clean it out. He actually saved some of the gunk to show them when he brought it back. They couldn't have cared less. Poor customer service. Don't rent carpet cleaners from them. Yuck. read more

While people generally say Shaw's is more expensive I am not sure shopping at Market Basket (MB) is worth the savings. Unlike MB, Shaw's is clean. The selection is good. The store is never the wild frenzy that MB is all the time. It is a more comfortable shopping environment. The people that work there are wonderful. They are very kind and always seem to know what they are doing. I enjoy shopping where I don't feel like I am competing for food. Shaw's is the place. read more

I enjoy shopping here when I am buying food for just my family (Market Basket is for buying for large crowds). This supermarket occupies a large amount of space and is bright and clean. I know that I won't be competing for aisle space, and can actually browse and linger and take my time looking at labels in peace. The parking lot is also large and kept clean as well. It's one of the most well maintained supermarkets I've shopped at. read more

We love Bill in the Deli department. He goes above and beyond every time I order platters and multiple large subs at the last minute. I say I need his help (and though he is not a certified psychiatrist) I feel better, happier and able to breathe peacefully;ready to take on the rest of my tasks, knowing all will be fantastic when I go to pick up my food. Living nearby, I am a frequent small shopper at Shaws in Groton. To be honest, when I do a large shop I go to Market Basket. With the current Market Basket debacle, I decided to do my shopping for the week at Shaws. Prices have gotten better since the company was bought out (in Jan 2014, I think), but on 7/27 I was very disappointed. There were a few great buys on sale items but the meat prices were obscene. $6.99 for pre-formed burgers,(85% fat)?? $4.99 for 85% ground beef? That is beyond outrageous. I have never seen ground beef prices so high at this store. The pork chops looked awful, full of fat and unappealing. Again, I do shop here and this is not typical for the meat dept. While the produce shelves were getting bare, I was not suprised at that in light of all the Market Basket shoppers going there. An employee told me there would be a full shipment on Monday. The staff is great - friendly and helpful. Shame on upper management for gouging on meat prices. This is not how to make believers out of the new customers. I will keep using Shaws as a convenince store, when I am in need of something and don't want to ride to a store with better prices read more

When this store opened the prices were not competitive and the meat selection was inadequate. Both areas are improved. This is still not my store if I plan on a major shopping trip, but it is fine for picking up a few odds and ends. Shop carefully and you will do well. Parking is easy. The place is spacious and clean. People are friendly. One problem is the WiFi, which doesn't work. read more

This place is a complete mess to say the least. I stopped by there when I was in Groton just because it was closer than the far superior market basket at the time. When I pulled in the parking lot was practically empty during peaking grocery shopping hours. I was very confused why there was no one in there, but after my horrible experience I know why. I have no idea how they stay in business. I should have just listened to all of my friends when they told me to never go there ever because its the worst. From there unfriendly passive aggressive employees and managers to their low quality selection and overpriced goods. Honestly just go to market basket because Shaws is just an awful place. Their mangers especially are some of the angriest and aggressive people I have ever met. They are disorganized and they are just awful. The customer service is absolutely abysmal. Their ridiculously over priced foods are expired and old. It was the end of the line when I asked one of their managers where I could find something and they told me it was the end of there shift and to "go bother someone else" I was appalled to say the least. Honestly I wish I listened to my friends when they told me that this place was atrocious. My advice is to shop at market basket or literally anywhere else because this horrendous place is epitome of a nightmarish shopping experience. read more
