Astoundingly bad pizza. Please see my photos. Bottom was charred a jet black color over most of the pie making it taste bitter. Toppings (sausage and mushroom) were few and far between, especially the mushrooms which were almost nonexistent. Toppings, sauce, and cheese came only half-way to the edge, just dough after that. Top was way over-browned to the point where the cheese was disagreeably chewy. And I'm not sure if this was meant to be a thin-crust or a deep-dish pizza because it was both: thin in the middle half and three times thicker in parts of the outer half. Obviously whoever prepared this has no clue to how to do it properly. The ONLY good thing I can say about this mess is the dough itself was fresh and had a good texture. It wasn't just one. We were a group of 5 and ordered 3 pizzas. Everybody agreed they were bad. They should be ashamed to serve these. Didn't anybody notice leaving the kitchen they were unservable? So I would never consider here for take-out. But we were here for trivia night so maybe I'd try again to have something to eat while playing? But next time if they come out like that I'd be refusing delivery and demanding a new one - that's for sure. As far as the trivia, I might not return for that either. The room was very loud from the crowd, and the announcer's microphone never did work properly so it was very hard to hear. And, knowing how many good wines and beers they sell in the general store on the first floor, it is painful to have a choice of just 5 very generic wines upstairs. Why can't they offer all the wines from downstairs, with a reasonable mark-up for restaurant purchase of course? read more

Ordered 2 pizzas to eat there at 5:45 tonight. At around 6:45 we asked about our order. First response was "it's going in be ready in 7 minutes. My husband saw many orders of pizza getting picked up. My husband asked what happened to our order. Answer was " it got pushed back". What does that even mean? So we get our money back and they still want to give us the pizza. Absolutely love the vibe here. I often stop in while on a bike ride but this winter have turned to stopping in for lunch after weekend hikes in the area. I used to work here. The kitchen conditions are incredibly unsanitary. While I didn't work in the kitchen itself, I saw raw meats stored with cooked meat, food served after being dropped, and parasites from fish left out on food-prep counters. As a barista I was pressured to serve rotten milk and often found mold growing on the inside of the iced tea containers. When the dairy fridge malfunctioned and stopped cooling, the owner would force us use and sell the product anyways since it wasn't technically past its expiration date. I would never eat anything prepared in house here, but the unrefrigerated pre-packaged items from other companies should be fine (chips, crackers, protein bars etc.) Overall, the back of house is filthy and the owner ignores health and safety issues to lower his costs. read more

This is a really cute cafe and gift shop. I've stopped by a couple times and gotten some delicious sourdough bread as well as rosemary garlic bread, and some other pastry items. They have a nice selection of wine and craft beer, coffee, cute locally crafted gifts, etc. we haven't really tried their sandwiches and cafe food but it looks good. I discovered that the second floor has more seating and it seems like a good place to catch up with friends. read more

It's called Harvard General Store but that's almost a little misleading, at least from the general stores I've been to. This is a pretty special place with many tasty items and cool things to buy, almost like what you might find at a farmers market such as ornaments, clothing items, decorations, candles, and scented things like that. There's a full cafe, and grill I believe, in the whole center of the store. A full selection of teas, coffees, and latte flavors including one of my big favs: maple cinnamon! It tasted particularly delicious, not that strong of a coffee flavor and more mild and creamy which is for sure how I like my lattes. Nice big size and great value for what you get. The other great thing was they have these high quality fresh food items you can buy and just cook in the oven, many pizzas but also some of the best scones I've had in a long time, chocolate chip flavored! They're not always in though, so grab a bag of them if they're there. I gifted them to a few family members and they were pretty blown away, and I got to try one of the scones too and agree! There are also hard ciders, wines, and other various market items. There's a whole second floor as well, looking like kind of an old fashioned restaurant but with very good local art on the walls. Nice calm area to walk around. I'll have to try one of the sandwiches some time. Harvard General Store has a nice homey vibe to it, along with indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately, I do not have anything positive to say about my experience here. The store was visibly dirty with a very potent odor. I can only imagine the lack of cleanliness that goes on in the kitchen. I could not catch a breath without flys buzzing in my face (and in my food, which I could not stomach finishing). Inattentive staff with obnoxious attitudes, terribly long wait times, extremely overpriced grocery items, poor management, the list goes on. This place needs a miracle. I got an iced mocha latte which was really delicious. If I lived close by, I'd be coming all the time. I also bought some prepared frozen scones that you freeze until you're ready to pop them in the oven and they are some of the best scones I've had. The service was great and the general store has a lot of great items like hats, wines, hard cider, milk, frozen pizza, candles, etc. I really like the setup and feel of the store. It has a homey feel and has 2 floors, one of which you can sit and enjoy some local paintings and take a moment to yourself. 100% going back! read more

Ordered two BLT's so hungry forgot to take pictures LOL! It was so yummy, it came with some chips and got some Boylan Rootbeer. Perfect combo for a brunch sandwich sat across the street in some benches under some shady trees. They have picnic tables and plenty of spaces for your car. They have a nice shop and bathroom facilities too. Lots of bicyclists use this spot as a stop option to refresh before heading out. If in the area give it a try. read more

This is an adorable store. We stopped here for breakfast on the way out to Bare Hill Pond and the food was great. Service was very good. It was a bit busy as a number of cyclists had stopped in to get something to eat. Had a really good cup of tea. Great little shop full of cute, New Englandy things. We were traveling through the area and always look for places like this to stop for food and provisions rather than chains, but the vibe was really weird here, like we were unwelcome because we were not locals. We were stared at and given odd looks, not the most friendly place. My husband is a native of the area and we didn't "look" out of place but maybe they know all their usual customers. We grabbed several prepared food items and some local beers and headed to the cash register which had no line. We waited a bit and one woman came over who ignored us and took the next people who sauntered up to the counter like there was a secret password for service. A second woman came over and rang up our many items without so much of a word, like she had just woken up from a nap. Then she didn't offer us a bag and just stared at us after we paid (she was not special needs). The food was good, but pretty much identical to the to-go items at Whole Foods (turkey cranberry salad, chicken curry, kale salad) and not worth a special stop. We might have lingered to buy more things and explored more of what they had to offer (some souvenir type items) but because we didn't feel welcome, we just wanted to get out of there. Not recommended unless you're a townie, I guess. This place seems to have a lot of potential, but instead was a disappointment. read more

The General has a short order kitchen with a limited menu of breakfast offerings and sandwiches. The kitchen is open for breakfast and lunch and closes at 3:00pm. You order at the counter and pick up your food when it is ready. The atmosphere is friendly, cozy and comfortable. Folks sit around and socialize while eating/drinking. In addition they have a small selection of prepackaged soups and salads and desserts which are available until closing. We live nearby, so we are regulars at The General. read more

Oh the cutest little store in this tiny town, the Town of Harvard. It's a small store with a little bit of everything in it. It has the coffee shop in it which make great coffee and lattes. They also have a wide selection of wine which is more than most items in the store. I loved this place just visiting my friend who lives in the town. This town has that 1800s feel to it. I've been in here a few times and it's a great little store for all you fancy beers and sodas and hot dog and cheese needs. But I had never wandered upstairs until this past week. Upstairs is a divine little wine shop that only sells wines from smaller vineyards. The guys in charge understand their stock and how it might serve the drinker, and they have regular wine tastings (the next one has free live music) where you can learn too. Drink and buy. This cute little place has so much potential, but there's just too much going on and not enough focus on each part of the store. There is the coffee part, the retail, the and the food/restaurant part. The coffee section is just okay. The coffee is expensive, sizes are small, and their are limited syrup flavor options. I noticed they don't offer many sugar free options either. A few of the baristas do not understand how to make a latte or a cappuccino properly. Most of the staff is very friendly and accommodating, a few are lacking on customer service. The drip coffee is just okay, they only have one kind of roast though. The retail is all over the place. As a general store, there lacking in suppling affordable items like peanut butter, bread, eggs so on. They have these items, but they are super pricey and not the generic brands. The shelf's are quite dirty, as if no one has cleaned them in years. There is random things like plates, lotion and so on from small vendors. The food is okay. Pricey, but is a decent treat one in a while. I did receive a sandwich where the bread was completely charred, which wasn't great. Also, running out of things on the menu is something that seems to happen quite frequently here. read more

On my place that you can get Iggy's bread and the FT in the area, inside cafe atmosphere is good. Outside picnic tables and mismatched parasols is kinda basic. Pizza is boring and flaccid, toasted cheese sandwich (at$8 the only reasonably price good on their menu) is rubbery and lukewarm. Salads are made somewhere and shipped in probably, beware check the date. Had lunch with a friend and ordered a Ruben sandwich. There was not very much corn beef in it but what there was was sliced thin and good. The sandwich included the sauerkraut and cheese but instead I of thousand island or Russian dressing they used a home made dressing with mustard. The mustard overpowered the sandwich. Wish I knew ahead of time as I am not a mustard fan. My friend got the grilled cheese with tomato and it was uneventful. read more

We had picked up a cheese pizza ~ a month ago & it was outstanding. So we went back again & sorry to say it was disappointing. Picked up at the prescribed time & when home found the pizza was cold & possibly reheated. I'd prefer to air my complaint to the store & tried. No response. The Harvard General Store is wonderful, I cannot say enough good things! My husband and I rented Upstairs @ the General for our rehearsal dinner, it was the perfect spot and had the casualness and charm we were looking for. Our guests raved about how much fun they had, the space provided a cozy place for us and about 90 guests to gather and mingle to celebrate the night before our marriage at the Barn at Gibbet Hill. Scott, the owner, was incredibly helpful, he helped us organize the space to fit the vision we had in mind, and he provided excellent wines and beers which were thoroughly enjoyed! I ordered a cubano sandwich which was listed as pork ham pickles Swiss cheese and mustard on a long roll. What I got was dry pulled pork on grilled rye bread I'm not sure if it was an error in communication but when the girl handed it to me she said here's your cubano I would not have even cared had it been a decent sandwich Unfortunately it was not It was overly salty and not worth the $13 I paid for It This is the 2nd time I've been there and while I find some of their menu to be very creative it never seems like they can pull it off very well Also, I know it's Harvard and it's an affluent community , But I think $13 for a sandwich is a little much Forgive the punctuation this is speech to text read more

Terrific little cafe and gift shop in a quaint building within this old New England town square. Best shirt for sale in here shows the town's clever sense of humor: "What happens in Harvard, stays in Harvard...But, nothing really ever happens here." Kudos.
