I had a disappointing experience at this salon and would not recommend it for color of any kind. I was charged $110 for a partial hi light. The blonde hi lights I was expecting to get came out orange in color. They did not match my existing color at all. I also had bad roots right after. The first thing my mother said to me a couple days later was "what happened to your hair?". It actually looked much better before I had it done. I should have gone back to have them re-do it the following week but unfortunately I could not fit it in my busy schedule. So now I will need to go to another salon to have it fixed. read more

I've been going to Shear Artistry for years (just realized I left basically the same review in 2012 on their page from before they moved from the other side of what is now Sprouts, and got into their beautiful, convenient location). Five years later still always pleasant and professional, never had a bad experience. Molly in particular is consistently amazing, always does a great job even if I wait too long to come in. Aka she doesn't reinvent the wheel and charge you up the waz and take half a day to give you what you want. Her uncanny artistic eye and talent somehow is still reasonable, even here in the SB area (not to mention she's just a good person, which matters to me). Molly is not the only one who is awesome there, I consistently see stylists whose work demonstrates how good they are at what they do. You're in good hands when you're there, period. Great haircuts at reasonable price, lovely experience! My daughter and I just moved here and needed haircuts. We usually just go to Great Clips but decided it was time for a splurge. This was perfect - still reasonably priced but a true salon experience. Shannon was great with my teen daughter and Kendra was great - gave me a wonderful head/scalp massage and took her time with my cut. I'm new to the area and went to Shear Artistry for a haircut after it was recommended to me. Kendra did a great job on my cowlicky hair, and even recommended a local yoga studio as well! After I told her I'd been having neck pain, she informed me that the salon is running a massage special. which surprised me because when I looked online for massage places in Goleta, Shear Artistry didn't come up. After my haircut, I talked to the esthetician, Amy. She gave me a 30 minute massage which was twice as good (and cost half as much) as a massage I got the day before at a spa in Santa Barbara. She got right into the spots of my neck and shoulders that were sore and I felt a lot better afterwards. They need to advertise this service! Thank you for everything, Kendra and Amy! I've been going to this salon for nearly ten years. The salon is clean and comfortable and well-maintained and the staff are great. They have lots of high-end hair products, which I love, and they've even special ordered products for me. The prices are very reasonable for the high level of service. They have everything, cuts, color, waxing, manicures... I love my stylist, obviously, but over the years I've used several of the stylists, and they're all great. One time there was an emergency and my stylist had to leave in a rush before my cut was done. One of the other stylists helped us out and finished my hair. Not only did my hair look great, I really appreciated how they supported each other and worked as a team (ever been to a salon where they don't get along? this is so not like that). It's really comfortable, they take care of you and pamper you. Highly recommend. read more

In my opinion, it's mostly young, seemingly inexperienced, unfriendly girls (that also seem very blase and unenthusiastic about working there). I've found much better quality cuts and service for the same price or else downtown. It might look "fancy" but it's NOT a professional salon by any means. I guess people put up with it out of convenience of being in Goleta. I'd rather spend some more time to go downtown or upper State where I feel like my business is appreciated. read more

My search is finally over after making an appointment at Shear Artistry with Charlotte! Besides being kind she is extremely knowledgable about color and what will and will not work . Before I first came to her i wanted blonde from my last salon , but ended up with streaks of red (which i said i do not want), before that at another salon i wanted blonde and ended up with grey tones. Honestly , I have been trying just about every place and paying a small fortune. I never thought I would get it how i wanted it until Charlotte ! After she finished coloring and highlighting my hair I literally cried with happiness. She was able to listen and understand and create exactly what i wanted ! Shear Artistry did the hair and makeup for my wedding and we were so impressed! Susie, the owner of the salon, did a beautiful job with my hair, and some of the other stylists did nice updos and curls for my bridesmaids and my mom. We also had our makeup done by Shannon and another stylist, who were both great. They did a really good range of subtle to dramatic, depending on what each person wanted. The feel of the salon was very laid back, and we brought in brunch and champagne so we could hang out before the craziness of wedding day set in. The price was extremely reasonable, and Susie even did a trial run of the hair and makeup a few weeks before the wedding day at a discounted rate. Horrible experience today. Shouldn't have told stylist was visiting in town. She knew I was gonna be a one-time customer and boy did she not invest in me. My $45 haircut was over in merely 30 minutes, including wash and blow dry. Next time a stylist ask me if I live in town, I will definitely wise-up and flat out lie and say yes. They treat tourists like shit here and my whole experience was god awful. After washing my hair, she did not bother to wrap my hair and I walked to the station with my hair dripping wet. Half way through my haircut, she had to grab a towel to dry my hair some more. Lol. Then some friend of hers showed her pics on her iPhone and she was distracted. Very unprofessional!!! While cutting my hair, she whipped my hair in my eyes several times and when I tried to tell her, she pretended she didn't speak English. Then it was time to dry my hair... She combed my hair down while blow drying and hit my shoulders with the hair brush HARD! It was the most awful hair salon experience I've ever had. I went there because I saw in their Yelp description that they specialize in Asian hair. WTF! Nothing could be further from the truth. They cater to old white people. And are probably only courteous to them. The only good thing I got out of this fucked up salon experience was that I got to try Paul Mitchell's smoothing hair serum. They use good products at this salon. I'll admit. But the staff. They can go fuck themselves. read more
