Stopped in and asked if they could do hard gel. They were able to get me in right away. Number one spot with an older gentleman. I requested a simple French. He drilled my nails down to where they started to burn. He nicked my nail beds and they are still hurt, and when he put alcohol on my nails, it's stung! When he started to paint the white on there was paint everywhere and they did not come out straight so I asked that he just take it off and I'll just do a simple Chrome on my nails. He placed the chrome on my nails, and there was a bunch of little bumps. So then he had to start all over on about four of my nails in which the painful process started all over. At the end of it- this is how my nails turned out (see pictures) . I am going to assume he was new or lacked experience. I walked out of their crying because my hands hurt so bad and they still hurt today. I've never had such a horrible experience at a salon. I paid, but in high insight I should've not. I came here because the place I usually go to was all booked up, I do appreciate them taking me but I felt the pedicure to be kinda strange, it was super fast, when they put the scrub on me they only but it on my toes lol they cut me quite a bit. my left big toe was left very red after and is sore I'm not sure if I'm starting to get an infection or if it's just from getting cut. came in to get a French tip acrylic set. The woman that I had do my nails (I'm not sure of her name, but she had short bangs with some orange blonde highlights) was rude right off the bat. She was not trying to make any sort of conversation, which is fine, however she was having a conversation with the previous people. She asked me what I wanted in a rude tone, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and showed her a picture of what I wanted. I said I want this exact shape and length, the only thing I want to change is the color (from red to white). Once she started, she added glue to my nails and started putting on the extension tips. However, she didn't measure correctly and ripped them off my nails. I was taken aback, but again I understand mistakes with measurements can happen. Then she was applying the acrylic, and when I tell you I wish I had meta glasses or had been recording I really wish I had. I have never seen application done like that before. I thought it was her first time applying acrylic on the nails. The application was sloppy, and the acrylic kept falling off in clumps with my nails ending up super thick and bumpy. She asked me if the shape was okay, and I said the shape is fine, but I would appreciate it if you are them thinner. She kept getting aggressive and saying that she could not make them thinner. To which I asked again, and she replied saying that she didn't want to do that because they would break and I would complain/call and come back the next day for a replacement. I told her that I would not be back, and because I am paying for these nails, if she could file them down. (Keep in mind, if she had applied the acrylic correctly, this would have never happened.) Then she proceeds to get upset and asks me if they look okay in a very rude manner. She even turned to her coworkers and started talking about it (I assume, because of her facial expressions). I asked her why she was mad, and she said she wasn't yet proceeded to keep talking very loud with her coworkers. Finally we get to the French tip part and she got annoyed when I showed her the picture for reference on how I wanted the French tip part and some of them came out a little squiggly, but at this point I'm defeated and over it. I would not recommend getting your nails done here, the service was horrible. Notable mention: I had little cuts , and she kept pressing really hard on them while doing my nails. She also ended up cutting me with the nail drill and said sorry in the most monotone voice ever. read more

I asked for almond-shaped nails and got nails that are each lop-sided with unevenly-applied acrylic. Not a single one of my nails is shaped like an actual almond nail, and they feel lumpy instead of smooth. The only thing I'm happy with is the color that I chose. I wish it were possible to give six stars!! I was fortunate to walk in to get a much needed manicure after being on the ski slopes for the past month. The place was busy but I only waited a few minutes. I got a fast and relaxing mani from a nice man named Khao. He was super friendly and did a great job on my nails. I'd been coming here for a year or so now and USUALLY pleased with my experience, given how my dip mani (my go to) would last 3-4 weeks. However, about 1-2 times a nail or two would completely break and the paint come off. In the case it was a week only, I'd call and ask if they could fix it. In a rather rude way, they would agree. Also, when I have tipped, they would be upset I didn't tip more and become rude again. Recently, I got another dip mani (at no cheap cost plus tip mind you), and after ONE week, two of the nails came completely off, broke, and another chipped. I went in and asked the owner who did my nails to fix them, and he in a tone noted he is busy and to come back Monday. I said fine, but I can only do 4pm. Come Monday with my busy work schedule, I called ahead to change to appt time to another day as I wouldn't be able to make it, but the line was busy. So I tried again around 4, and the same owner was angry with me that he "has been waiting around for ten minutes and I should've called." I explained I tried and I can do Wednesday. He then angrily said "by then though it won't be my problem because it's been longer than 10 days." Odd because I attempted to come in several days sooner... So when I went back in, he fixed my nails in a rush, again with a very unpleasant demeanor. Said he wouldn't charge me - even though I OFFERED TO PAY- feeling bad. Then he took me aside and said him and his wife no longer want me to come in... And that I was rude and complaining too many times? Maybe if they did their job or hired more techs they wouldn't be so overwhelmed, rushed, and do a poor job in the first place. I am sorry to give 1 star, but the level of customer service has completely overrided any good they have done. read more

As an RN, our hands are always in water. Hence, my resistance for any type of gel, dip, or any other type of groomed nail service. Well, I caved in. I've gotten three gel manicures from different salons. As you can see, I'm in search of a manicure that is long lasting~2 weeks. The first two salons, my manicure lasted 3 days at best. My verdict is still not in for Star Nail Salon. I've had one chip already and it's only been 5 days, but will do a follow up. I called to see if they had a certain kind of gel and when they stated they did not then I said well I could bring a picture of the one so we can match the color with what they do have and then I would like to make sure that I could Let them know if the tip that I need to put on it would be too large since the nail ends up being too big after the gel is applied, and the man told me that I should call someplace else that they don't "know how to take care of that kind of situation" and he hung up on me. When he first said that I said excuse me, I couldn't understand what you said. I wanted to be sure, and he said you should go someplace else. Thank you and he hung up. But I had my nails done there a couple months ago the same man was rude. Didn't have eye contact and said sit over there and pointed out a chair, I have noticed this place seems quite empty when I do my shopping in the area and unfortunately, if you want to be able to have Input with how your nails are done as far as how thick they glop the gel on, this is not the place to go or if you want a friendly greeting, just basic friendliness. read more

He kept saying he would pop them off and he was pretty adamant about it so I said okay and if it doesn't work let's soak them. Then he forced it off until it ripped my nail off. I've been to this nail salon several times and have always had a wonderful experience. Today, I went and had Hollie as my technician. She did a good job, however, was constantly making comments insulting my nails- how dry they were, how disgusting my cuticles are, how dry my elbows are. It seemed endless. I was nice at first but when it continued I started to get more irritated, telling her to stop several times. However she didn't and it made my manicure an extremely unpleasant experience. This is my go to place in Santa Barbara for maintaining my nails. Whether it be a pedicure, manicure, or gel nails I'm always pleased with the outcome. I've never had a bad experience here. I do recommend making an appointment ahead of time even though they do take walk-ins but if you're not pressed for time then expect to wait a bit depending on what service you are coming in for. On my first visit here I specifically came in wanting gel nails for my trip to Disneyland. After I seen the cute pics posted by Lupita D. I immediately called to make an appointment. Nathan did my nails and he did an awesome job on my gels. I absolutely love the design and great detail he did. Cost was $50 so it was a bit steep but I was very pleased with the outcome and it was for a special occasion so I didn't mind paying more. My go to person is Tram when It comes to getting a gel manicure. She is very polite, sweet, and does an excellent job everytime! I love how gentle she is with cutting my cuticles, because having my cuticles cut is always scary to me for fear of being hurt. Nobody wants to leave with a bloody cuticle or knicks. All the staff is very nice and welcoming and the salon is well kept. They also offer coffee, tea, and water. She only did the massage for three minutes which is absurd. The lady next to me massage was ~10 minutes long so if I am paying more I should get what I paid for. my mom and I have been coming here consistently for about 2.5years. We always leave a good tip (20%), and never complain. Recently, my mom and I went for a mani/pedi. My artist was one of the the main (male) manicurists, and my mom got a different (female) worker. My artist was objectively doing a better job, and my mom had an event to go to, where as it didn't matter to me how exceptional the job was done. So, after the pedicure portion, I requested to switch artists for our manicures-- causing no scheduling conflict for the artists, not requesting anyone new, not giving a reason (so that I didn't make the female artist look bad in front of the owner/main male). I wanted my mom to have the "nicer" manicure for her event. And, still we left a 20% tip. Two weeks later, we called to schedule new appointments and they told us we were no longer welcome because I did not like my service and the best artist was taking care of me. they didn't ask for any clarification, just told us we weren't allowed back. This is not what good customer service looks like to me at all. Started going to Polished for a cleaner, friendlier experience with complimentary coffee/tea/water/wine and better service and comparable prices. **no names named because, no hate to the worker who did "the worse" job.
