Uncommunicative, dishonest, disrespectful of my time. Reese canceled on me last minute, citing some excuse about a family emergency. Which I was very understanding of, and more than willing to work with Reese on rescheduling my appointment, as she promised me a free haircut for the inconvenience. Clearly this was just a ruse to get me to leave her alone, as she literally never responded to any of my follow-up texts, and refused to communicate with me any further. Just had the best experience at Shear Roots with Reese! I had such dull black hair that needed to be refreshed BADLY! Reese was incredibly attentive to my needs as I explained to her what I wanted done with my color and cut. She is the absolute BEST at what she does! First off I have A LOT of hair so I was afraid she didn't have enough color. However, she is super prepared with a fully stocked color bar. I was really impressed, since a lot of salons always run out with my luck of coming in with so much hair. All in all we chatted and I had such a great time talking with her while my color was processing. After she colored and cut my hair she even went out of her way to style my hair so beautifully! I first met Reese after my hair gal made my hair orange, when the picture I showed her was strawberry blonde. Reese was able to get me in the next day for a color correction. She was very empathic to my mood, explaining the color wasn't terrible, that it just made my face look "washed out." We talked about what I wanted, didn't want, and then she got to work. 3 hours later, I was dark blonde Balayage babe. I've been back every 6 weeks since! I truly wish I had read some of the previous reviews before booking with Reece. She had to reschedule my first appointment also due to "family conflicts". I get it, no big deal. I was able to get in with her and thought I had clearly stated what I was looking for in terms of cut and color. She did pretty well with the cut. I'm what you'd call a dirty blonde, and have been lighter and darker, and told her what I was looking for including showing her pictures. She said I should go darker, to match my roots. After all was said and done, I was surprised at how dark it turned out; she said to trust her so I did. I paid her ($360 which included cut, color and tip, which I thought was a bit steep), but try not to complain about price too much if I'm getting what I want. I went home deciding to look at it outside of the salon and decided I wasn't happy with the color at all. To me it literally looked black, flat and all one color. There ARE some small highlights in the back but the front is black.. I tried texting her to let her know I would like more highlights. I was suprised by her initial reaction, which was to almost argue with me. We went back and forth for a bit, I tried to remain calm and asked her to please work with me as I had already spent a lot of money and didn't want to go somewhere and spend MORE money to fix it! She then snapped at me by saying she couldn't respond right away, she was driving her kids, she has a life and is not glued to the computer, etc., etc., even though she had been responding. I texted her later that day and told her I was disappointed by her response, and asked her if she treated all her customers who were not satisfied with the service the same way. She said she would work with me to fix my color and had availability coming up the next week. I texted her again and said please just let me know when. That was on Monday. It's now Friday and no response. I guess I'll have to shell out more money and go somewhere else to have my color fixed. If you are a new client, be warned. read more

Just maybe do better next time. This was in a two month time span and no one ever took the the time to reply or answer after leaving several voice mails and sending texts. Maybe if you post on social media platforms to stop by the salon or call to schedule, perhaps answer potential customers back. Only reviewing because I did see other comments/reviews about the same issues. Brushed those off thinking maybe a miscommunication error, but same thing happening here. If I could give this salon more than 5 stars I would. Reese and her husband have created an amazing family business. First of all, Reese came in for me on a Sunday very last minute after my usual stylist had to cancel due to a terrible tragedy. She did an amazing job with my hair. She used a technique j have ever seen before and I really feel my hair turned out great. I also felt very welcome in her salon. Her husband, a retired Marine, sat down and talked with us. They are from Hawaii and the whole salon has that truly laid back Hawaiian feel to it. I have also seen Reese do great things for our community on our local community Facebook pages before. I had wanted to try her services because of this, but when she stepped up and took over after my last minute cancellation I just felt like it was meant to be. Don't pass this place up. So I have seen Reese for 3 years and exclusively at her own salon for about a year and a half every 8 weeks. I considered her a friend. She recently opened a new, bigger and better location and had several contests on her FB page to promote the new location. I had mentioned on her comments that I was hoping to win so my daughter could have her hair dyed for the first time. This was brought up at my next appointment and Reese offered to do it for free, very generously, as long as she could do before and after photos or a video. I eagerly agreed! Save possibly hundreds of dollars and my teenager gets a great cut and color?! Heck yeah! After my appointment I tried contacting her through text, phone calls, and FB messages (through the salon page and her personal page) to schedule an appointment. No response. She would post that she had a last minute cancellation, tried to scoop one of those up even though I would have to take my daughter out of school for it. No response. Finally, I sent a text asking if maybe I misunderstood her offer and apologizing if I did. Letting her know that if she can longer do it because she did just open a new location, to please just let me know. I understand that she would be giving up her time that she could be making money with a paying client, and product, and that is very important because she needs to make money to pay her bills. I 100% understand if she would have to take back the offer. Life goes on for me, no biggie. She has had to reschedule me last minute a couple times due to family stuff or a client came in with way more color correction than she anticipated, stuff like that, and I have had no issue with it. This was over 2 months ago that this all started and I still have not received any type of response, positive or negative, about her offer. This is not how you do business with clients, let alone a loyal client who was guaranteed income for you. And to top it off my last cut, she never washed my hair, even when she mentioned that she would do it after my cut. She cut my hair with the product I had in it from styling my own hair at home. Let me start this off with, I went to Reese after dyeing my hair at home (I know, I know). We moved to Phoenix last March and I was desperately searching for somewhere to get my hair done but no salon jumped out at me. So I continued to dye at home. Then I stumbled across Reese and scrolled through pictures of her work. Finally, someone that looked like they took pride in their work. Hair tones that complimented skin tones. Lustrous and rich looking hair. I'm in! So I set up an appointment and got to meet her yesterday. Her and Taj took their time to fix what I had messed up at home. They treated my hair like Thanksgiving dinner in the oven (the kind where you have special dinner guests coming and need it to be perfect) being mindful to keep checking on me until it was to their liking. Not like other salons that might sit you in a corner and forget about you. They were kind and knew what they were talking about. What I love about these girls is even though they've been doing it for years they are still interested in LEARNING. New techniques, new styles, new products - they're on the ball with everything. Which helps for a clueless girl like myself when it comes to hair. You have to check out their new salon. It's perfect! You can drink coffee or sip wine and not feel like you're in a salon but hanging out with great girls that could teach you a thing or two. They play great music and offer snacks and beverages. I am in love with my new hair color and style. I followed Reese from Flict thinking that being trained by the owner of an upscale boutique salon, she would know what she was doing. Both times, however, she missed the mark. The first time I went to her, she didn't take off enough length. I'm thinking 'ok, understandable; she's being conservative with a new client. I get it'. When I left, she sensed that I wasn't 100 percent satisfied with the cut and told me to text her if I wanted to come back and have more length removed. So I messaged her the very next day. And, she never responded back. I tried to be understanding; figured maybe she was out sick since she coughed pretty much nonstop during my hair appointment. In fact, I ended up sick with bronchitis for a week afterwards myself, so I just lived with the cut. I let it go and decided to give her another chance as my new stylist. The second time around, the cut was better but she messed up my color. She was in a rush and didn't let it process long enough. Her excuse was the fluorescent lighting in her studio. She took me outside in the natural light and tried to convince me it wasn't that bad, but no lie, my hair was ORANGE! Thinking maybe it was just me, I went home and after a few honest opinions were sought, I messaged her and requested a color correction. She did not respond. Over the following week or so, I sent her multiple texts and even messaged her through Facebook until she finally responded and said she was having some personal problems at home, and would get back to me. But once again, she never did. My experience with Reese was disappointing, as both times I tipped her VERY well (that's just me; I've worked in the service industry before myself, so it's a habit!). All I expected was her to make things right. I may also add that while her salon suite is tastefully decorated, it is NOT a relaxing environment. Both times I was there, other stylists were walking in and out, interrupting us, and talking "business" very loudly. Reese even apologized for their rudeness. Also, don't expect a relaxing head shampoo here; it's not happening. Definitely won't be returning a third time!! read more

Usually when I go to hairstylist they always tell me they want to do a half the color strength so that I would have to come back to get it finished if it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Reese and Hilary were very nice and friendly; however, my hair was a disaster afterwards. I requested a dark, warm brown color....it turned out black!!!! (and I'm a blonde) I asked for bangs....my bangs were cut on top, in the middle of my head! Then barely reached my eyebrows! WORST bang cute ever!!! My layering was all messed up as well, super uneven.. And They charged more than double the price than anywhere been to. Over $240!! Plus, the worst thing was when I got home my kids thought I was wearing a wig!! They kept pulling on my hair expecting it to fall off..I went back for a color change....I was there for 4 hours...resulting in my hair becoming orange...never again!! I went back to my regular stylist and she seriously thought my 4 year old cut my hair. I told the stylist what I wanted, I had confidence in her.. bottom line, don't go there if you're a blonde. read more

I decided to give Reese at sheer roots a try after seeing some amazing photos on her Instagram account of her hair styling and coloring abilities. However I am very disappointed to say that I did not have a good experience at her salon. Before getting started on my hair we discussed what I wanted done and I consulted with her and her professional opinions based on my hair. We decided it was best to blend out my dark brown roots through out the current highlights that I had featuring and do a balayage technique to bring about depth in my hair. It took three hours and three different toners to try to reach the coloring that we had discussed and every time it was nowhere near what we had talked about. I should've stayed until it was fixed however I wasn't going to take time away from other clients that had appointments and my babysitter hadn't planned on me taking four hours at the salon for my hair. so I had to leave, I then followed up with Reese informing her that I had not been satisfied with the hair color that I left with and was under the impression that she guarantees her work and would like to have an opportunity at fixing my hair. In the end I never got a follow up with her confirming my appointment after I mentioned not having to pay for any further services. Poor customer service skills and I feel dumb for tipping 20% on the total cost of services although I was not satisfied with the end results, but than again that's just the kind of person I am. read more

Not only is Reese one of the nicest people you will ever meet, she is an amazing hairstylist. I went to her originally a couple times when I was unhappy with my hair stylist at the time. She would always fix the cuts that person wasn't doing correctly. I hesitated to switch over because I didn't want to be disloyal, until I got a terrible haircut from my old hairstylist that has just now started to grow out and look good again. She is an amazing colorist. She has slowly gotten me back to an amazing blonde that I love and suits my skin type. She also is always the most concerned with getting and keeping your hair healthy and will be honest if she feels something will jeopardize the health of your hair. She is very considerate and will do anything to make sure her clients are happy. You can tell she is extremely talented as I constantly witness multiple other stylists come to her for advice. The only thing I would say that might be seen as a negative is that she seems to have a lot going on at once. Since she books her own appointments, and will always squeeze someone in for a touch up or if they aren't happy, she seems extremely busy most of the time and is multitasking.
