John rebuilt my transmission on my car and did a good job, it lasted 120,000 miles. I thought he did a good job in a timely manner, so I took it back a month later for more repairs and John told me I needed a water pump, and I needed to replace ALL front-end parts, So I took it to Belle tire, and they said everything looked fine including water pump. 120,000 miles later I have same front end and water pump. Trans just went out again so I am taking it to a honest garage. Steer clear of Shelby auto, John is a crook, and a Jethro in back acting like they are honest, and to Mariann, you must of had a minor issue and you were charged more than job was worth,johns a crook and a liar. he gives honest mechanics a bad name read more

They kept my car for over a month, rarely answered calls and repeatedly failed to provide updates. I was told multiple times it would be ready and then never received a call. This place is a complete joke. I brought my car in for a simple oil change, and somehow it turned into a two-week nightmare. First, they "couldn't find the filter," then they said I needed new brakes--which I had just replaced a month ago. When I questioned it, the guy got defensive and acted like I was the problem. To make things worse, when I finally got my car back, it was making a weird noise it NEVER made before. I brought it back in, and they had the nerve to tell me it was "coincidence." Coincidence?! You had my car for two weeks and now it sounds like a dying lawnmower? The staff is rude, disorganized, and clearly either incompetent or shady--or both. Unprofessional. Over two months to fix a truck which still isn't fixed yet. Keep getting a run around regarding what needs to be fixed. I'm a person who values honesty and this shop has not been honest. When calling, I got talked over, which is extremely rude, and told the vehicle would be fixed that day or be done the next day. Multiple times. The truck hasn't moved one bit. If the shop isn't able to fix the vehicle, ok understood. Communicate that. Release it to a different shop. Never, ever, again. The clutch cable snapped on my mustang - so I had it towed to this shop. They didn't bother to look at the car for 2-3 days. Then they had to wait to order in the cable, which they ordered over night shipped at my expense, ofcourse - but by then it was Friday, so it wouldn't be there till Monday. Everytime I called for an update - they'd only answer the phone about half the time. And EVERYTIME I got them on the phone, the owner John would tell me "it'll be done today" - and it would never get done. It was having issues starting, so rather than calling me and updating me on parts it needed, etc - he would just add the parts and charge me for them. Finally after a week and a half - I called them Four times that day and told them I HAD to have the car that day. By 5:30, I still hadnt heard from them - and they close at 6. I went up there myself to find three mechanics surrounding my car and one banging on the carburetor with a wrench. Apparently, the carb that had no issues when the car went in there - is suddenly having major issues. Better yet? No one there has a clue about carburetors nor can they recommend me to anyone. This is DETROIT "motor city" - and every single muscle car in the area is probably running the same Holley carb. I made a deal with owner, john - call me tomorrow at noon, I'll give you an update - if he can fix it, he'll charge me a half hour labor - if not, he won't charge me. I call at noon -no answer. Call at 1230 - he answers - haven't been able to look at it. Told me to Call him in an hour. I call him in an hour and a half. No answer. Drive up there - cars sitting - no ones working on it. At this point I told him I didn't want him to work on my car anymore and I had it towed out of there. Thank god this was my toy car and not my daily driver. It took over a week and a half for them to do 3 hours worth of labor (starter and clutch cable) and the car left with a issue it didn't have going in. Better yet, the tow truck driver told me that they hear of issues at this shop all the time. Wouldn't recommend this shop to my worst enemy. read more

This was the WORST car repair expierience I have ever encountered. I took my daughters car in for an engine noise and an AC issue and everyday for a MONTH I was told it was "almost" done. Everyday, I was told I would get a call in a few hours and had to call back each time for some new story of the day. Finally, I had to force the car back as another new story was popping up, I got the car home and went through it very carefully only to realize NOTHING was ever done to the car and the noise was exactly the way I dropped it off. I had driven in from Chicago in my car was making a weird noise. I called my mechanic in Chicago and her recognized to sound as my steering wheel fluid was low. I googled where I could get this fixed and Shelby Auto Care came up. When I arrived there I spoke with a gentleman , he told his service person to top off the steering wheel fluid for me. That being He then gave me the bottle just in case it became low on my way back to Chicago. They did not charge me anything. I will always be in their debt and have told all of my family in the Detroit area to use them. read more

This auto repair company is just best. They were fast, honest, and absolutely courteous. The pricing was very fair and I know they provided the best service I could ask for. I knew I had a power steering problem and another company I went to tried to tell me that it was the belt that needed to be replaced. They never even check the power steering fluid to see that it was empty. Shelby auto care gave me a temporary fix until my part came in, drove me home well the repairs being made, and even pick me up to pick up my car. I highly recommend this company. read more

The service here is amazing!!!! I felt that I received beyond a fair price for the repairs. The receptionist and the mechanics were very friendly. The mechanics explained everything clearly. The repair took much less time than I had anticipated. For the full story: I needed a break repair during the beginning of winter. (This is an awful time to need a repair, as students are home from break and their parents have their cars repaired and repair shops are also flooded with people wanting their car to be ready for winter.) When I called, and the person that answered said they were able to get me an appointment that same day. Staff was very kind and calm. During the small timeframe of the repair, the mechanics came in to the waiting room 5 times to give brief status reports - what they were finding to be wrong with the vehicle and and what investigation or work remained, and thereafter the progress of the repairs! At the end, they came in and explained after-care (how to monitor to see whether or not more extensive repair may be needed in the future). I also received a detailed print-out if the repair details. read more

I sued and won (the judge recognized a faulty repair) although I still lost money, time, and experienced much stress due to Shelby Auto Care's incompetence. Just bought a used car for my almost 16 year old son. The car needed a some work to get it into shape for my new driver. Worst experience I've ever had with my car. I would not trust nor return to this shop. John and his staff had my car for 3 1/2 weeks for a radiator problem. In that 3 1/2 weeks, I NEVER got a phone call (well, on the last day after almost four weeks of me calling them I did). They lied to me on at least 4 occasions (that I know of). We were told the car was done on 3 occasions, and it was not. They told us my radiator (which has a lifetime warranty) was denied exchange because it was "bowed." I asked for the radiator and exchanged it with no problem. John (the owner) later admitted he had never actually taken it in himself so he couldn't actually speak to what happened. BUT he WAS the one that told me it wouldn't be warrantied. They told me it would be done "today" on four different occasions. Needless to say, it never was. Almost 4 weeks later, many lies later, and zero phone calls later (AND $200 over original quote), I have my car back. NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! My advice, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! read more

drpped my truck off Friday..was told be done by noon Saturday...called over and over,,no answer...said he is open until 2pm Saturday..drove there at 1230..shop locked up????it is now sunday..I have not received a call as to why he is not open,,,or if my truck has been worked on!!! i work Monday!!!!...no way to get to work..i stand to loss hundreds of dollars because this place failed me!!!!,,,,other customers are also unable to get cars on Saturday...I wonder if I can sue for lost wages because of his negligence!!!! read more
