My husband and I are newer to the Latah Valley and with easy, quick food options being more limited we decided to try Shelbys Burgers. Delicious! Service was great, didn't wait long at all, I got a cheeseburger which was not only HUGE but had the coveted crispy edges that smash burgers are known for. The bun was super soft (think Shake Shack) My husband had a burger with fried onions which they nailed - he's picky about his fried onions (!) the fries were HOT crispy and truly delicious. I went crazy and got a fruity pebbles shake to top it off which I HIGHLY recommend (it's like fruity pebbles cereal milk and ice cream had a baby - yum!) Oh and Idid I mention you can add Booze??? We were able to sit outside and enjoy, what a cute, fun place to grab a quick bite! You won't regret it! If you like smash burgers, then, this is the place for you! Friendly service. Really enjoyed visiting with them. Ordered the Oklahoma. Not just greasy, extremely greasy, if you like that. Tasty, but, over-the-top on the greasiness. And, I now know smash burgers aren't my thing. For the price, seems like a few fries or tots should come with it. For the burger & basket of tots (which was a generous amount), was over $21 without drinks. We had water. Only two bad things: 1) I walk with a cane & it slipped on the greasy floor by the cash register where you order. Maybe throw another rug down there? 2) There was no hand soap in the bathroom. One of the staff said they hadn't gotten their supply order in & they were out. a) What are you using to wash your hands in the kitchen? Dish soap maybe? Hopefully, something other than the hand sanitizer that was being offered to customers. b) THERE'S LITERALLY A YOKE'S ACROSS THE PARKING LOT!!!! Descent burgers but way OVERPRICED for what you get. We got 2 double cheeseburgers and both were greasy and the patties were so thin that it looked like 1 thin patty on the burger! There was a lot of hype about this place before it opened, so I approached with wary optimism. Overall very ordinary. As others have commented the burgers are very thin patties and nothing distinctive about the sides or bun. Hotdogs also were disappointing-I've had better from a street vendor. But, the fries were very good when I came in. Crispy and satisfyingly crunchy. I got a sense that the severs were generally disinterested which dropped the vibe several points. Been dying to come here! Stopped in on a Saturday around lunch time and it was basically empty. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The outside patio is very cute and the interior is all tall bar tables. We ordered the Shelby 350 burger, fries, the Oklahoma burger, and an orange creamsicle shake. I absolutely LOVE this place. I finally tried it for the first time and I am so sad I didn't try it sooner. The vibe inside is so cute and decorated so well. I had read mixed reviews for this place so I decided to try it for myself. The burger was decently sized and a true smash burger. The fries were a large portion and very middle of the road in taste. A couple things I wasn't a fan of (and why this wouldn't be a 4/5 star review): if you charge for sides of sauce, you should fill up the entire container. Both were half full with sauce so about enough for less than half the fries. The "spicy" ranch is ranch mixed with horseradish instead of hot sauce (I feel like that should be specified). Things did seem pricey (even though everywhere is these days) but $10 for a 16oz shake is pretty crazy. Lastly, you can't order a combo meal, which leaves you ordering a burger and a large order of fries, if you want to try both. Overall, glad I tried it but most likely won't go again. read more

In a word--terrible. I mean, usually I can find something nice to say about a place but not here. The prices are out of this world high, which isn't always bad if you get a good value but there's no value here, just a dried up piece of burger meat, cooked well past an inch of its life! Sure, smash burgers are supposed to have nice crispy edges but they have to leave some flavor in them! I've had good smash burgers that were juicy & flavorful. Again, not here. Did I mention the prices?!? $19 for a supposed triple burger that probably contained less meat than a quarter pounder! The fries? Meh. They were pretty hefty sticks but lukewarm and soggy. Add $5 for a canned soda and it's the trifecta of disappointment. Some people may be able to swing $55 for a burger meal for two but not us. My family and I will not be back and I can't recommend ): Pros: Ambiance (welcoming and cutelt decorated), lots of seating (while we were there), kind staff Cons: Loud (just the music - the place was pretty empty of patrons), expensive, etc... We came for breakfast 6/19/2023. I wasn't present when my family ordered, but they were unhappy from the get-go. They only have over-hard eggs and are unable to serve scrambled eggs (which seems odd.. if you have a grill to cook over-hard eggs, I'd suspect you'd be able to scramble. Wondering if the eggs are pre-cooked?). They also will not provide customers with complementary water, which was off-putting to me.. You have to buy a bottle of water (I fortunately had one in my car that I brought in). I had the "Early Riser" breakfast sandwich. It was fine - no real complaints about the sandwich itself. However, it was $12 and was not served with sides. You're able to get very similar items (and free water) at any fast food establishment (even Starbucks) for closer to $4-5... The pancakes were nothing special and very much not worth $12. Go to Denny's for the same pancakes at 1/3 of the price... The truffle tots were hot and crispy with a nice hint of truffle flavor, but they were very salty. I would consider ordering again if I'm ever summoned back to this establishment. But I'll be sure not to forget to bring my own water Two stars for the ambiance, staff, and serving edible food. Ultimately, you can get much better breakfast (especially if you're pthese prices) pretty much anywhere else. read more

While 4 friends and I were the only people in the restaurant, they refused to give us a glass of water and said they didn't have time to scramble an egg. The cashier said they're too busy to cook eggs, except over-hard or over-easy, and if you want water, too bad, they don't do water. Meat patties are very thin and crisp which is a popular style but the cost of the burger is not worth the money. I ordered an Oklahoma. It's a double patty topped with grilled onions, lettuce and pickles. The topping were sparse for a $14.00 burger. Fries are not included and were an additional $5.00 for what amounted to a medium fry at most fast food joints. I only wanted water which I was charged for. The burger itself was delicious and so were the fries. The cost to me is the factor that is disappointing. I did not leave full for the amount of money I spent. Five guys is half the cost, more filling and tastier in my opinion and for comparison. read more

First smash burger place I've been to in Spokane and it nearly hits the spot. The burger itself was very typical of smash burgers. I got the Oklahoma because it came with the "secret sauce". Next time I go I'll take my wife and we'll get the ketchup and mustard I think. It's not really a replication of In and Out in that the fries aren't the fresh cut style and the "secret sauce" seems mostly Mayo in taste and thickness. Good smash burger but not gonna replace that CA goodness. If people in WA are craving In and Out, try Pick-Quick in Seattle, WA. We may like Pick-Quick even over In and Out these days.
