Americano
Paul L.

I love the nostalgic vibe of this coffee house, especially since they roast their own beans in-house. The only reason for the slightly imperfect rating is the inconsistency with the Americanos I've ordered on different visits. The first time, it was probably the best Americano I've ever had, topped with an incredible, frosty brown crema. The second time, with a different barista, it tasted more like a standard Americano from a fast-food coffee chain. The shop itself feels like a museum, featuring heavy manual scales and a giant roasting machine like a size of a 1950s computer lab. The service was friendly, seating was easy to find, and they offer convenient side parking for guests.

And the coffee that I picked up.

The coffee was flavorful and strong. The Barista was so helpful, they serve coffee but also sell it, he helped me pick out the perfect flavor. It's a cute little coffee shop,

Was next door getting some foods and the smell and the patio drawn in. Very great vibe and the smell is just heavy. They do take their coffee seriously here, you can ask and request how you would like or you can get some recommendations from them. I just got regular brewed since I need to be awake so it was great and did it job. They do have a patio and it looks fun and enjoyable. There is a parking lot and it's free too. Will come back to try more serious coffee.

Great place to grab a coffee. There's outdoor seating and indoor seating. Excellent customer service and great coffee.

Delicious coffee with a selection of pastries, my only complaint they run out of bananas often it seems as the last few visits I was unable to get a banana mocha but settled on an ice blended mocha. Tried the black velvet too. Haven't tried the pastries. Parking lot can get rather full since it shares a lot with other businesses. A long time standing business with decently speedy service and a nice lounge section for enjoying a drink here with lots of newspapers to catch up on the local news. Lots of coffee related decor

There's a reason sheldrake has dedicated and loyal customers. They have authentic, fresh and delicious coffee that they grind on site. It's like walking into a coffee history museum. They have signs of their roasting bean days so you know what the most fresh product will be. Although I'm a decaf girly, I can confidently say their decaf drip was delicious, crisp and abundant. A great price too, starting at $2-3. If you're any type of coffee fan, this is the spot to visit on 2nd.

Drip coffee made fresh daily with a large variety of roasted beans to choose from including at least 5 decaf options. I ordered a cafè au lait with whipped cream with Vienna decaf roast. Smooth, creamy and great tasting. Of all the other coffee places on 2nd street this is highly underrated and deserves more recognition. If you want a no frills, truly crafted coffee shop, try Sheldrake.

It's nice to have a $4 cup of coffee again... Well, technically we had espressos, but you know what I mean. It's been a while since we've been here, but we gave them another try. Tastes just like it used to 4 years ago, so that was great.

The lovely man working here, I do believe he might be the owner, pushed together three smaller tables together so my group of five would have somewhere to work. If it weren't for him, we would've left immediately to find somewhere else. I ordered a Mexican hot chocolate and a blueberry muffin that I asked to be warmed! The cafe has a very warm, cozy, old-fashion feel where you never want to leave. I can see why so many people come here just to sit and chat.

I ordered an iced the On My Way latte with a passion fruit pastry. Ugh - I was on my way to heaven! The flavors were pronounced and neither were too sweet and I ended up with flakes everywhere (as one does with a deliciously well-made pastry). The coffee and pistachio flavors melded well and had me properly caffeinated. Desire the busyness, customers entered and left quickly with their to-go orders. The merch was cute and the vibe definitely invited me to stay longer than anticipated.

Let's start with service: the woman at the front was very dry, quiet, and uninterested. We tried asking her if we could add cold foam or sweet cream to our drinks to make them sweeter, and she said it was only available on seasonal drinks. As an avid matcha latte consumer, this made zero sense to me. While I don't blame her bc she likely had nothing to do with that decision, she wasn't kind in relaying that information or trying to help me find something on the menu I may like. Her demeanor remained the same when my friend ordered his drink, and we both felt a very negative energy coming from this woman, simply put it didn't seem like she wanted to be there taking our order. This was around 1pm last Saturday (the 21st of March), so they had a decent amount of customers, but it wasn't some crazy morning rush. Forward to the drink : we grabbed our drinks which came out promptly. I tasted my matcha and just as I suspected due to the lack of sweetness, it just tasted like grassy chalk. I assumed that my friends latte would be better, as matcha can tend to have an earthy taste to it to begin with. Then I tried his... chalky and sour. Due to the lack of customization and the barista's attitude, we just took a couple sips and tossed our drinks. It was a super negative experience for a place I really really wanted to like. I think allowing people to use sweetener and cold foam on more than just seasonal lattes would be a great first start, and perhaps training the staff on appropriate customer interaction would also help. Loved the branding on this spot, but it seems like the people who work there don't want to be there and it really put a damper on the experience, and for a place so cute, the drinks and vibes should be top notch.

When the employee finally came out with my order, I said "hello" and got no response. I then said "thank you" while grabbing the drinks and was met with an extremely rude, dirty look. When I calmly told him he was being rude, he responded sarcastically and then escalated the situation by yelling at us and saying "f*ck you" before walking away. I was honestly in complete disbelief. That is unacceptable behavior from anyone, especially someone working in customer service. If you're in the area, you're better off going to Stereoscope Coffee down the street. The staff there are friendly, welcoming, and they don't curse at their customers. Philz seriously needs to address how this location treats people, because no one should be spoken to like that just for picking up coffee.
