Wow, the baked goods here are on point!!! We got a rice krispy treat and mixed berry scone. Both were fresh and deliciois. The krispy had wonderful chunks of gooey marshmallows and sprinkles to add some crunchy texture. The scone was SUPER moist and delicious with bites of whole berries and tasty sweet icing on top. Pretty wonderful desserts, seems like they get them fresh from a local bakery daily but didn't catch the name. Definitely way above average for airport food and the prices were great too - total was $6 for both desserts!!! read more

This may not be my favorite coffeeshop in Long Beach, but they do make my favorite cup of coffee in Long Beach. Just because I'm not big on hanging out in this coffeeshop doesn't mean it deserves any fewer stars - because as soon as you walk in and you smell those freshly roasted coffee beans, it's true freakin' love. Eons ago, back in my days of working at Buffalo, the perfect escape was a fresh cup of coffee from Polly's and a superb, 50% off, day-old chocolate croissant. ...in fact, things haven't changed much - that's still one of my favorite escapes. read more

When you open the door and walked into Polly's the whiff of air that breezes past your face smells fracking fantastic! See, Polly's is roasting their own beans and that is a smell that I love. The store reminds me of an old general store you'd have seen at the turn of the century. It's all medium colored wood, old signs, measuring tools, and bags and bags of beans. I'm always a little confused about the ordering process. Do I go to the counter and they make me a drink and then I go to the register, tell them what I ordered and pay? Or do I go to the register, order and pay, and they make me what I want? Usually this ends in me never getting served in proper order of arrival because some people get in line and others order in different places. But, I'm okay with that - I'm here to stop and smell the coffee beans after all. You can also buy the beans and take them home with you if you like to make your own brew at home. read more

One day when we were down on 2nd street a colder and rainier day added a romantic touch to the Mr. taking me out on a coffee date. I like my coffee just like I like my men, hot, strong and sweet. I also like my coffee joints just like I like my men, local and independent. Polly's does it right. He could have taken me to any other coffee joint on the street but he knew I would much rather prefer Polly's. So if you are grabbing a cup of joe please try to avoid the big name coffee places and take a chance on supporting Polly's. Grab a cup and take a stroll, it is a perfect way to spend some time with the people you love. read more

I figured I had a couple of hours to wait for my flight so I went over to Polly's to have a "real" coffee. I ordered a 12 oz. caramel macchiato and it was delicious. I wasn't expecting such a good quality cup of coffee, but it was delicious and it was priced reasonably. I will definitely come back for another cup when I'm in town. read more

The last time I was here they had a huge line of folks waiting for their planes but the two workers moved through the line pretty quickly. My soy mocha was pretty good but my pastry was better than I was expecting. I had this flat cinnamon swirl bread thing. I'm sure it has a scientific name... something like cinnamonitticus swirlvitu thingy. Who knew Yelpers were so smart? Other times I've been here waiting for a flight the service has been slower than dirt so it's very hit or miss. I've also been underwhelmed by the baked goods on occasion. I'm hoping my last stop here is the way of the future and they're stepping up their game. Meh. read more

Polly's coffee is the best quality in the city. You just can't beat the fresh roast. Every single cup I've ever had was delicious without fail. I'm really glad this place still does ok considering the mass competition of chain coffee joints on this street. If you're at Starbuck's or Coffee Bean on 2nd, do yourself a favor and move down the street a bit and get some quality. I'm knocking off a 1/2 star only because there's not much in the way of cozy seating, just a couple chairs and a bunch of outdoor seats, but on these chilly Spring mornings, the last thing i want to do is shiver while I try to enjoy my cup o' joe. read more

Nice customer service, good cup of coffee. Nice little area to wait, have your coffee and breakfast before walking to the main terminal. People are nice and conversational. The coffee was good. The quick meal danishes and sandwiches were varied as well. Love that there was wifi. read more

Update: after 6 months of not coming in, my usual barista STILL knew my order! Polly's rocks! ______________________________________________________ I started frequenting this place when I finally realized it was the coffee roasting that I smelled every day on my way to work. What a difference fresh roasting your beans makes! The staff there is super nice and polite- they even know my bean order before I make it! The fact that they have a frequent buyers reward program doesn't hurt either. They also have a great selection of coffee makers and accessories, like the burr grinder I bought (which came with a free pound of beans!), and those awesome bodum borosilicate glasses that keep your coffee hot and your hands cool. They have good coffee. For a good price. It's also the only cafe that has free wi-fi on 2nd, which meant a lot to me when I used to walk down there to write my thesis. I half lived on their patio at that time with a cup of iced coffee. I've purchased their ground coffee. They are knowledgeable and helped me out a lot. The mugs they hung are the cutest ever, too. Great for gifts. They even give you a gift receipt. First it might look like they don't have a bathroom, but they do. It's all the way in the back. read more

The coffee was the harshest that I've experienced in a long time. There was a dog sitting at the table next to me. It yelped nearly the entire time. The food wasn't that great either. It has a great following of seniors. They probably can't taste the coffee, so they don't mind! read more

I have been overlooking this place for a long time, and I have missed out. Because there are so many other coffee joints, I have always been meeting my friends at Pete's or Its a Grind, occasionally one friend drags me to Starbucks because she likes their Scalded McLatte. I went to a local bicycle organizations meeting and finally tried Polly's coffee. Terrific! My muffin was good also. Another yelper complained that the bikers were too loud. I hope this was those old guys who ride motorcycles and try to act cool. If we were too noisy shouting and laughing, I apologize on behalf of the bicyclers. That outside patio is so close to noisy second street, we might have gotten loud. read more

The fact that this place has survived local competition from TWO Starbucks, Peets, Coffee Bean and the now defunct Daily Grind says a lot. I am trying to make for of an effort to come here rather than the other big bad corporate entities on 2nd St. Not only is the coffee not that bad, but they have a delicious pastry section in which the peanut butter cookie is one of our favorites. We went on a Friday night and they tasted they were fresh out of the oven. read more

Polly's should be killing it like no other coffee shop in Belmont Shore. Great coffee. Roasted in-house (no one else does it). Homegrown rep. Nice and helpful staff. Great ambassador owner, an icon in East Long Beach. It's own parking lot(!). It's own outdoor patio (!). And I guess they are doing well. And I'm happy. But they should reconfigure their space. Have the retail counter way farther to the back, facing 2nd St. And have lots of comfortable indoor seating, instead of the 6-10 butt-parking-spots they have now. You know, like a regular successful modern coffee shop. And I say go ahead and slap on an extra 25¢ onto each beverage and product sold, and keep that margin forever for your inconvenience as it affects your production (coffee roasting, packing, etc., as that appears to be what is going on in that real estate right now). Polly's should be the start and end of the conversation when it comes to coffee in Belmont Shore, like Legend's is for sports bars. Let Starbucks and Peet's be second-place alternatives like the other "sports bars" on 2nd are. read more

It's not bitter, overly sweet, or too plain. Everything we tried tasted consistent and intentional. The prices are a little on the higher side, but based on the quality, I think it's worth it. I dunno, maybe my teeth aren't sharp. Overall an outstanding dish. So my dilemma now is when to return to try the other menu items which didn't make my first cut. Parking is....well ya know...it's 2nd St. So the driver needs to be a good parallel parker. Cute shoes optional but be prepared to walk.

She also thought her drink was sweet. The banana foam tasted good, but it disappeared within 10 min. Pricing: Prices are more than average, but I'm not surprised considering they're located on a popular street.

Their coffee is elevated without breaking that $7 mark that so many coffee shops hold as the standard nowadays. Will definitely be coming back.

I've been a loyal customer for 2 years now and I just have to say this place has gone into the ground. I would blame the employees but, they don't own the business. I blame the owner. It's the owners job to take care of things when business isn't going well. During the summer the place is filled with flies. They're everywhere, including in the glass case where they hold the pastries. I've watched the owner just ignore his employees as they tell him that customers are offended by the pests. He just handed them a toy gun and went to talk outside for 3 hours. A month or so ago, a roach crawled up to my muffin and tried to eat it. I literally just threw it away and walked out. I've seen a dog shit in there and the employees had to clean it up. Where's the owner? No where to he found. There are also mice. They come from behind this couch that's up against the wall in the shop. I even looked and saw the hole they were coming in and out of. I bought a day old pastry from there not too long ago and saw that it had been nibbled into. The owner doesn't care for his customer base or his employees. It's a health hazard with a owner who could care less whether you get sick from his food or not. I'm surprised the health department hasn't come to shut this place down yet. Go to Starbucks. Go to aroma de roma right on the next block. Hell, go to 7/11. Don't give this owner who doesn't care about your well being business. read more

Sheldrake has the best Chai Tea Latte in Long Beach. Every sip of their Chai is has perfectly balanced warmth and spice. The store itself is cozy and stylish - the type of space that invites you to sit down and stay awhile. Also, Sheldrake offers ample seating on their outdoor patio. The service at Sheldrake is truly top-notch. The staff is aways kind and attentive, they never make me feel rushed during the ordering process. They're extremely knowledgeable about their expansive coffee and tea selections and even allow you to bring your own to-go cups. One hot tip about Sheldrake - there's a parking lot right next door that has ample, free parking. You don't have to worry about hunting for a spot or feeding a meter, which makes the experience much more enjoyable. I highly recommend Sheldrake, it's one of the best and most convenient coffee shops in Long Beach. read more

I am a local here at Belmont Shore. I was so looking forward to have Polly's coffee for the first time this past weekend to support small business Saturday. My partner ordered Peppermint Latte and I had the Pumpkin Spice latte. I understand that I should not expect the same type of coffee in none-chained coffee store. However, I was deeply disappointed at how weak the Java was. It was a show of poor coffee craftsmanship. I am sure based on their other reviews' their other coffee might be better, but honestly, this was a case of huge disappointment for me. I may go back there again to try their plain coffee, but I would stay away from those two choices. They were plain awful. Cute decor and vibes though, if that is what you are looking for. read more

I rarely leave bad reviews, but this place deserves it. The customer service was awful--the staff acted like they didn't want to be there, barely acknowledged me, and seemed annoyed when I asked a simple question about the menu. After waiting way too long for my drink, I took it outside to the patio, hoping to enjoy some fresh air. Big mistake. The tables were covered in crumbs, old cups were left sitting around, and the floor looked like it hadn't been swept in days. Even worse, there were flies everywhere. I don't understand how a business can be this careless about cleanliness and customer experience. Definitely not worth the visit. read more

I stumbled upon Sheldrake Coffee Roasters on 2nd Street a couple of months ago, and it quickly became my favorite spot in Long Beach. The building, an older structure, perfectly captures the essence of a true roasting company with an ambiance that complements their craft. The coffee is absolutely fabulous--rich, flavorful, and consistently good every time. The interior setting is just perfect for enjoying a quiet cup or having a lively chat. I give it 2 stars for the roasted coffee I buy but the "baristas" are horrible. They don't know how to dial in their grind so the shots are always watered down and the quality control on their microfoam is really bad. It depends on who is making the drink. I stick to the black coffee which isn't bad. It's way better when I brew it at home but I won't buy a latte or cappuccino. Also, the staff always seems short and rude! It seems they give more time to people they know really well and ignore everyone else even though I have bought over 30 lbs of coffee in last few months. read more

I just want to say the coffee here is great, the review is for the employees who packed my whole bean coffee. I've been buying my coffee here for the last 4 years. There is a male employee who wears a silver sleeve jacket that packed my columbia supremo today his nails were so filthy and long. He put his entire arm inside my coffee bag and used his hands to pour and pack the coffee beans right after using his smartphone. Nasty, I hope the owner reads this. Your employees should be wearing gloves and practicing better hygiene. read more

Never ever will I patronize this business , After buying coffee and a bagel , sitting for 30 minutes , I got up to leave but wanted to use the restroom. I was told it wasnt allowed , even after spending money there . I was called the "C" word by one the employees who I had asked to use the restroom . Decided to support local business during hard times only to find the rude staff from past experiences must have learned it from the owner who is the king of rude and should probably consider retiring. This place is infested with rats and roaches! You can call the health department to verify and they will tell you they already have pending investigations for this establishment. And yes, the owner knows. No, he doesn't mind serving you dark roasted rat feces. But hey, at least he threw a couple rat traps down, right? For your safety please avoid this failing business and try something new and not riddled with health hazards. read more

This coffee really is fantastic. A variety of flavors whole bean or ground and a small bakery. Free wifi and some outdoor seating. Right on one end of 2nd so a good place to start before walking down a few blocks to shop or find some real food. I work from home a lot so it's nice to find a place that I can sit back and be outside. Prices are reasonable, too. read more

We love Polly's! Local, friendly, great coffee! Sometimes I stop on my way to work at I can get a perfect coffee and bagel in under 5 minutes. Other times we sit and enjoy the patio and friendly locals enjoying their coffees early in the morning. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the pistachio flavor, coupled with my almond milk - it was very smooth. I got a cake pop as a little sweet bite. There was tons of seating and I even landed a seat with an outlet. After working for a little bit, I decided to get a Tonic to quench my thirst (since it was a hot day). This was a game changer! I ordered the Bees in the Trap and it was so light and refreshing it still had a shot of espresso! This is worth the drive from anywhere, trust me. Also, since it was a half hour before closing, the pastries were half off, so I got myself a butter croissant for tomorrow morning. Had a blast, got work done! Can't wait to come back!
